I have been wanting to meet John for the last 5 years now but this year I couldn't go to Jbay because I was working. However, this edit has fulfilled my need to see a new John video. The cinematography is superior and I love the music choice. The exclusive content for the Florence Marine X Society just makes this edit feel special before everyone else gets to see it.

So well said. I was thinking about John's surfing after Tahiti. And seeing Gabriel's whole energy there was like watching a driven robot. His interview was basically 'i want to win, I want to win...". Whereas John talked about loving the challenge and the surf". And they got in the water and Gabriel was in a frenzy, like hyper crazed. And it did get him scores. John kept waiting to really surf, and the waves just weren't there. But the crux of what hit me is that John is such a true surfer and artist to his core that he keeps wide open to the moment, to the flow, and is so in tune with it all, it's what let's him flow with the waves like no one else and be the artist he is. But I think his quality of openness can leave him vulnerable to being disrupted by crazy energy like Gabriel had that day, especially when there are no good waves. I think that aspect of John is what makes him a surfer like we've never seen. But also might be why he sometimes gets beaten, and it leaves you scratching your head. But if I had to choose between surfing like Gabriel or surfing like John, I'd choose John 💯. Gabriel is always trying to prove himself, whereas John does what he does from love of it or curiosity or wanting to push his own boundaries wider and wider. Yes he loves to win, but that is only a small piece of him. I am much older than him, but he still is inspirational to me.But to see him get ripped off the way he did at jbay just hurt. And it had to be disheartening to him, no matter how well he took it, but because his true love is surfing, he was just able to move on then to enjoying surf and family.

Yeah and the whole situation with the WSL. What other professional sport is such a joke. What's the point of even watching wsl events, when we can just watch these videos of pure an elegant surfing! Glad you guys have figured out how to make money doing what you love without needing surfer magazine or the WSL.

John's videos always just blow me away. They are like an entire movie in a few minutes -- with atmosphere and people interacting, with all of the artistic attention to light and sound and mood. I always get bored after a couple minutes watching other people's videos, but want John's to go on and on.
The editing to link the 3 Florence boys turns into the next persons wave was incredible!
