To be humble is to give thanks !
Its great to see someone (JJF) recognising their good fortune in what life has handed them. To be positioned from the moment you were born to be able to develop such an amazing skill where you can harness a small portion of the oceans power for a few seconds is truly a destined path. Lets hope time doesn't allow complacency or injury to change the development of those skills. Just how good can you become at this activity with a backyard like that -------- or has JJF and friends already reached the top? I guess the next level is what Kai Lenny and associates are doing with multiple types of craft on truly mind blowing waves. Food for thought !

@Aquatic Mullet Its not about contest surfing at all. Kelly pushed the limits and still does sometimes which is amazing but John is doing it consistently and taking it to another level.

I don't know about all the tricks and judging anymore but in my mind John is the best surfer in the world 🌎, bar none. His style is so ocean acclimated, its like watching an artist paint a beautiful drawing on water.

OMFG! That is so intense it's almost too much to take in in one sitting. Even though shorter and more narrowly focused, I think this rivals or betters View from a Blue Moon for surfing brilliance and for cinematography. Your surfing and your videos (thanks erik)are just on another level from anyone else. That drop at about 1;53 made me want to cry it was so beautiful. made me think back to you winning the eddie. am so glad you posted this-my soul needed it after the mind numbing last two events of the WSL. i couldn't even watch them. it breaks my heart to see surfing in the jersey being turned into a joke-with the world champion possibly being decided by a pump and bump in a puddle. So it is good to see that real surfing is alive and well. props to jack on the 11teen :)

That’s the kind of surfing from JJF that I love watching. You look strong, fit, and light on your feet, which is very important. The session that starts at around 12 minutes on the video is great. Your airs seem effortless, which can only happen when your fit and light. And extremely important, you are less likely to suffer an injury when you are at a lighter weight. A comparison that comes to my mind is when a young basketball player is fresh in the NBA and they have insane hops and they can sail through the air and dunk from virtually anywhere with seemingly no effort. As the years go on that athlete gains a little weight here and there, suffers and recovers from a few injuries, and slowly adopts a more conservative style of basketball. Does he become a lesser basketball player? Maybe not, because his shot percentage has drastically improved and he is much stronger than he used to be. So he is scoring points in the games, but he is not in the dunk contest any longer like he used to be in his first few years in the NBA. Now this is when the difference between basketball and surfing needs to be highlighted. In the end, what it takes to win a basketball game is completely objective, get the ball through the hoop, while to win a heat in surfing, you must earn scores from judges who are evaluating your surfing in an almost completely subjective manner. Why did I bring up the dunk contest? Because, like surfing, the scoring system is mostly subjective. John, your surfing will always be a pleasure to watch for people like me, but you need to focus on making it a pleasure to watch for the WSL judges.
