Great vid Dan! Thank you for taking the time to put that together. I just watched 5 different videos on weeping santa rosa and yours is the only one with any real information, and the only one useful to me in AZ. Your channel has been a major inspiration to the rest of us in the southwest. 👍
What I like most is these fruits bearing trees are cultivated in the natural method . This is certainly encouraging as the goodness of mother earth is directly benefitted great to see .
@@zuzannawisniewska8339 I hope I get fruit next year. I'll be out there with a paint brush. Of my currently 3 year old trees I only got 1 peach from a sickly tree that took it's sweet time establishing. Quite the lesson in patience.
Dan, thank you for another great video. Maybe you could encourage gardeners to donate extra fruits and veggies to their local food bank. There's a growing need for nutritious food.
thank you. I do ALLL my Prunus grafting on SANTA ROSA as understock, meaning, I graft, almond and apricot and prune and plum and peach and cherry and alll flowering prunus on santa rosa understock...all natural strong grafts, especially believe it or not almond does incredibly well and santa rosa does well in alll soils and! containers... good luck. oh!, and, santa rosa grows super easy right thru the year from cuttings especially tip 20cm cuttings!!!
Thank you for your video. I'm in Scottsdale, AZ and planted a 3 gallon Santa Rosa in full sun, 10 years ago. Although each year between 5 - 10 plums have set and matured, this is the first year for a full crop. I have no other plum trees in the yard, fertilize the tree when I remember, and have all of my plants on a drip system - so, the roots find water from various areas of nearby garden growth. Thank you for the advise when to harvest, or further ripen on counters, etc...,.
I have a Meldey Plum Tree that is fruiting heavily this year. They started ripening last week. I haven't been able to keep up with them. I gave my neighbors permission to come over and pick some also. A lot of them have fallen on the ground due to over ripening. The tree was planted in(2017)
Fantastic. I can’t stand market plums. They taste like nothing. I leave my Santa Rosas on the tree as long as possible, since the tree is holding them well. I pick a basket a week of the ripest ones. They are delicious. We had some unripe ones knocked off by wind, so I am trying to salt them. They smell delicious.
Hi Sir, loved your plum tree. Last month, I tasted some Cherry Plum and they were super sweet. Now I want to grow one but looking for a super sweet taste plum. Are Santa Rosa plum has super sweet taste? Thank you.
Beautiful plums. Sadly, Santa Rosa isn't quite disease resistant to last very long in my part of SE Georgia. I grow a lot of strains with a lot of chickasaw genetics in them.
It took four years for mine to finally carry a small load of delicious plums. I know that from now on it's going to be a Plummy Fourth of July every year.

I loved these plums straight from the tree in their native land of Sonoma county. Also black mission figs & apples & devils apples. The store plums are definitely high priced garbage.
Hi fellow gardeners, do you ever get fruitfly that ruin some of your fruit, & do you have any tips to prevent this from happening. We have Santa Rosa plums here where we are but we lost a bunch last year to fruitfly, this year we are prepared with some new ideas to fend them off & get more unstung fruit. We would appreciate any tips that any of you may have. thanks from Australia
I live in ohio. There are bunch of tiny fruit now. Should i take some of them off so they can grow bigger. I planted these abour 8 years ago. Usually only have few plums that get ripe.
How come your fruit is always ready before mine? I live in San Diego, I know your in CA, so is it that much warmer? My trees are younger, and I have tons of mulch, more than you I think- what is the cause. My Mariposa is about a week away from ripeness
Great harvest I've tried growing the Santa Rosa plum here with no luck. Every time I plnt one it dies. Idk what's going wrong I have several fruit trees I've planted. But the Santa Rosa dies every time I plant one.
hi great video, i have a victoria plum (uk based) and the tree is about at least 8 years old and i have only had minimal fruit and i watched when/where to prune videos and the last couple of years i have pruned into like a vase shape (still in progress) it seems to just grow loads almost like it has gone to seed any help with this is very much appreciated.
@@plantabundancedo Santa Rosa plants survive in the heat wave of May and June having temperature of 45 degrees? Mine dropped it’s leaves in the heat wave of May and June? Would they survive?!
Find a sunny location in the yard if possible. 6-8 hours throughout the spring and summer is best. I had to remove some larger ornamental trees in order to bring more sun in.
@@plantabundance - Thank you Dan for your prompt reply. I'm also in SF bay area where space is very limited. May have to do the same - removing some non-fruit bearing trees.
I am in Zone 7. We have 11 trees most stone fruit. Last year all the stone fruit trees started to die. All the fruit became mummified and branchs died back. Had to severely prune them, one we had to pull. No fruit this year at all. Any thoughts on this problem and why after 7 years it happened. Thanks
I have a cousin with her husband and son living in north carolina. I don’t if they are near your place, alice pangasinansi kami. Maybe they can buy some of your produce if they are near your place, you grow lots of vegies and greens. God bless you both! Keep safe, but so sadto see that people there dify the Goberment safety measure to stay at home and always wear your facemask and keep the 1-3 feet apart.

I planted 15 trees this year and the Santa Rosa Plum is one of the standouts! Growing healthy and fast. Can't wait for some fruit.

Yes, it grows fast, and it is very tasty.

Thank you for your tip about having water for the birds so they don’t eat the fruit.

The food banks don't even like fresh food from what I understand.
