What a coincidence, we named our very large tom cat "Merlin" because his super speed and coordination were magic. He's 15 years old now...they don't live nearly as long as we need them to. The video is wonderful to watch and listen to. Thanks.
Merlin is indeed a heavily marked Turkish Van and excellent swimming/water-loving ambassador for the breed. I've had 3, lived in Turkey for 4 years and priviledge to visit lovely Van, its lake and Kedi Ev. Very cool, smart and feisty cats. Thanks for sharing . xx
Thank you, I was looking at the tail and wondered if it was a maine coon cat, But I do remember the Turkish van is also an excellent swimmer who enjoys water. In reality, every cat will most likely swim if it falls into a pool, but the vast majority of them absolutely detest being wet and hate water. There is a way to get your normal household cat to swim, but it Hass to be done from the time it’s a kitten. Play with it and get it to enjoy water but never force it. But you also have to be very careful. With the pond, the cat can usually get out, but if you have a regular swimming pool, that cat is just going to drown if no one is there. It might decide to take a dip if it is used to doing that, but if there is no ladder that is easy for it to climb or steps to get out, obviously it will drown. That’s why I would still be very hesitant to try to get cats to enjoy water. Maybe if you live near a pond or have a pool that it can get out of its own, but otherwise, I would just let it hate water

I have a Merlin that likes to swim too but he is my husband. No one can believe his name is Merlin as it’s so unique for a non wizard name. Your cat Merlin is adorable and such a great swimmer. The fact that he kept his tail out of the water was priceless. Such skill.

@George Bong notice how the cat doesn't resist being in the water. this specific breed of cat (the turkish van) actuallys enjoys swimming, and if this cat didn't want to be in the water, he would of flailed and tried to get out as quickly as possible.

Does Merlin really like swimming? Maybe not. Does he have a chance to decide? Definitely not! Does he looks paralized in any way? No, he´s very relaxed. And that´s a good sign.
Either he's able to touch bottom or that cat is really buoyant! Vans have thick fur as I understand so maybe it's trapping air and helping keep him afloat like an otter.
Loved the "Mickey Mouse" marking on his side, love the name Merlin, GOOD JOB kitty ! Looking for frogs and fish, oh boy mom and dad froggy taste like chicken and fish taste like salmon !

Merlin looks like Greek Aegean cats . They are not afraid of the water, and they love to fish in shallow waters. His colors look like those cats colors. Is he a true Norwegian?
