All LA natives know that if it weren't for the 2028 olympic deadline, this would take 15 years to do with 4x the budget. The olympics is putting urgency on public infrastructure which is nice to see
For the 1984 games, L.A. did something very smart and that was asking businesses to start earlier at 6am so as to get more cars off the freeways as possible. At the time, it was one of the smartest things they did, and the second thing they did was to basically tell everyone who lives in L.A. if you don't have to drive, DON'T during the games. That helped big time and the freeways were very little for the full two weeks of the games. That's what they need to do again. Now we have a number of people that can work from home that couldn't do it back in 1984 because the technology wasn't available back then.

This will take them to the 7th St. Metro Center Station where you then can transfer to the B and D heavy rail subway lines. I hope LA 2028 committee will have ambassadors assisting travelers at the K and E lines to help guide them thru this transfer process.

Actually it wasn't that bad back then. Heck even as recently as 2010 it wasn't terrible. LA had a few areas of this population like every other city, mainly around Venice Beach, Santa Monica, and a much smaller Skid Row. But LA metro is huge--if you were a tourist before 2010, you could see a lot of parts of LA metro--Pasadena, Burbank, West Hollywood, Manhattan Beach, Anaheim, Beverly Hills, etc.--and never see a homeless person. It's somewhat still true today. Unlike San Francisco that's had that issue widespread since the 80s at least. It really started becoming a more noticeable issue in LA after 2008, and especially after Cov id in 2020.
Quite true, there were always pockets of homelessness before Covid, but it’s gotten a lot worse since. They basically set up everywhere, and the RV situation is much worse. The biggest problem the US has is that it doesnt really have mixed use zones and medium density housing, which would create more urban centers and make public transport actually viable. Now u either have a sometimes deserted high rise cbd surrounded by low density single family homes.
The single family zones are the bane of modern city life. The easiest path to solving most of the problems associated with the “garden beautiful” movement from the late 19th century is to overhaul our present zoning codes. Transit should be expanded to include minibuses that serve local mixed use areas of medium density housing and act as feeder routes for rail and tram networks. Private cars will decline when better public transit is in place. Small businesses should be permitted in all zones especially within presently zoned for single families. This is a unique opportunity to really make constructive changes to our unlivable car-choked cities.

That Airport map is a joke. It’s missing Long Beach and Ontario Airports. AND REALLY - Fullerton Municipal Airport is for small single engine airplanes.
Excellent explanation! I live on the westside, regularly use metro and busses (Santa Monica has a great bus network), and have been looking forward to the Games and the transit improvements in process. I remember the double decking of LAX before the 1982 games. Hard to believe that so much has been done in 40 years. I've lived in Tokyo, NYC, DC and Chicago, each with a distinct public transportation history. Linkage to the airport was late in coming to both Chicago and DC, and to LAX. Is that just the way it goes? I think the biggest challenge in L.A. was a failure of imagination. I am sorry that the old Pacific red line right of way wasn't preserved. Hindsight is 20/20! Hope you'll give us annual progress reports.
One small addition detail in all of this. There's also a BRAND NEW arena in Inglewood, the Intuit Dome, which I believe is across the street, or at least extremely close by SoFi Stadium. This is a daring project to take on with such limited time, but only the City of Angels would take on such a task.
All these infrastructure projects were planned and approved well before the Olympics were awarded. Remember, LA was originally bidding for the 2024 games not the 2028 games. All these projects would've gotten done even if LA had not been awarded the games. These projects were never Olympic specific.
And even if they do get it done, it will just be a temporary "fix", and then after they clean up some of the homelessness on the streets, it will be back to normal or worse after the events
Los Angeles does need a LOT of work. As we know, like in most places that host big events, it will just be temporary "fix". Metro system (Bus & Trains) are not always clean and definitely not safe with all the homeless and "law abiding" citizens that hop on. The traffic is horrible already around all the stadiums and arenas LA will most likely use for the Olympics. Now imagine with an influx of people. Cleaning the streets will be tough as well because everywhere you go the streets for the most part are busy and theres people living in the streets all over the place.
All of the work they are doing right now are things that should have been done years ago. In other words, I am glad there is a reason to finally fix all these infrastructure problems! (Especially LAX!!! That airport is a nightmare!!!)
A lot of the facilities have already been built. What they have to do is get the transportation (airport, between venues) infrastructure built sooner rather than later.
Best wishes to Los Angeles! Love the city. Hope people get their act together to move the platform to the next level. US’s infra is quite behind, which has hindered progress in people’s lives and further modernization
Time to finally build that public transport infrastructure. I lost so many friends to L.A. traffic. Literally. They all moved from L.A. and out of state because of the traffic. We actually lose highly educated and skilled human resource because of traffic. Insane.
The more long term the infrastructure becomes, the better. The airport improvements sounds great for this. The 27,000 more buses and dedicated lanes... Sounds like a nightmare. This can technically be an opportunity to build out rail that can be a "viable" long term alternative to cars if it can be designed to go - significantly - faster (including the time it gets to and from station by walking). What I see happening instead is a lowest cost temporary solution, where everything is moved back into the current travel hellscape afterwards. Ironically, this just throws away money. The better the investment for long term infrastructure use and improvement, the more money the city will recoup as well as profit. Someone should run the numbers on how much money is lost in LA from the horrible commute. And "carefully" run the numbers... Which means include things like "lost opportunities" which aren't currently on the ground today.
9:41 Paris is by no means smaller than LA. You're only talking about the city proper which would be like only talking about downtown LA. The Paris region Ile de France is comparable to LA size wise and has more than 12 million inhabitants
The airport infrastructure improvements will simply make overall traffic in the area worse in residential neighborhoods. Those 3000 cars that will not go to the airport will simply drop off and the transit centers. 96th street is bad enough as it is.
I’m glad the next olympics is going to happen here, LA used to be one of the best cities in the world and now it’s trash, I hope this fixes up the city and makes it great again
If they really wanna make a difference they should add some express lanes on the I-105 that freeway is so congested the green line does nothing to help traffic better off getting rid of it and replacing it with said express lanes
That old middle area where cars park they should build a mall so when delays do happen people can cross over to shop and lounge around trying a bunch of cool restaurants and eateries that LA has to offer from many popular ethnic foods
I like that statement "many athletes didn't like the Paris accommodations." Then they showed millionaire basketball players. Ha! Of course they moved to luxurious sweets in fancy hotels. I suspect most athletes were OK with where they stayed.
That was the french design and choice and to be honest well a interesting idea was largely very temporary.. Its likely that Los Angeles will use a different method perhaps 3D printed ones or similar using material that is eco friendly and best of all as a alternate type of bed to sell to consumers.
Most establishments around LA metro have public bathrooms making public toilets somewhat redundant. It's not like NYC where almost no restaurant or shop has a public restroom.
The one thing I'm dreading is Public Transport. I've heard its almost non existent and to be Ubering around for events is going to be so expensive as a Tourist.
LA Metro trains need cleaning up as currently it is a mobile skid row with so many homeless with mental health problems living on the trains and stations. While I have every compassion for the unhoused, the metro system should be policed so that travelers can feel safe riding it. We need to find appropriate accommodations and care for the homeless community for sure, but LA Metro is a transportation system and was never meant to be a homeless shelter.
Car free is a noble objective but the cost to do this is gigantic. Also getting the buses and drivers will be a challenge. I hope that this will all work out, but without Peter Ueberroth the leadership that made 1984 so successful is missing. The biggest challenge is that IOOC insists on controlling finances so LA28 will not have the vast flow of money from private money. That money made it possible for us to throw vast sums to solve problems. The Tom Bradley terminal was supposed to be ready for 1984, but city corruption resulted in the Bradley not being complete which resulted in problems at LAX that LAOOC could not solve because the government locked us out. I hope everything works for LA28, as I would like to make it the 3rd Olympics I work on. Even though we are called angels, we are not, there is a lot of hate in city government and a failure to deal with infrastructure that makes every year LA less liveable.
They need to do something about all the trash that is everywhere (including the freeways). What happened to ticketing drivers for tossing garbage from their cars. We need a PSA campaign like we used to have to respect our city/state and not litter.
Wouldn't it be nice if we just always invested in our infrastructure so it didn't take the Olympics coming to town to finally fix decade long problems?
there are more then enough stadiums and arenas for anything and everything. the main issue is the traffic really. oh yeah, keep those criminals away from targeting tourists too. that has been a problem in the city lately.
Weird how the video completely deletes two important Los Angeles airports, and added two barely used airports, and this Does not include a host of smaller airfields, including the decently large Santa Monica airport that has a lot of business jets flying in and out
LA has the worst transportation system. Freeways are congested. There aren’t metro enough railways for the distance it needs to cover. Buses stop every 2 blocks making every commute up to 5 times longer than it needs to be. That’s why many Angelenos own a car! A lot work more than 15 miles from their homes! We need an improved transportation system for a city that’s large in land mass and large in population. Another thing we can do during the games is work from home if we can. Close non-essential businesses (they can work from home). Everyone just does their groceries the week before. Idk. Think Covid I guess.
LA does not need to spend 40 billion dollars. LA has the infrastructure. LA Coliseum, Pasadena Rose Bowl, USC Olympic Village, UCLA sports and hundreds of other hotels, athletic training facilities, etc. The politicians want to keep most of that money for themselves or spend it flying around the world for "advice" on how to do a great Olympics. Peter Uberroth in 1984 created a successful and profitable LA Olympics. Just follow his blue print and let the tax payers keep their hard earned money. It isn't as if its LA's first.
2:00 I'm not sure if Van Nuys and Fullerton really qualify as "other airports". They're certainly not nearly on par with Burbank or John Wayne. And what about Long Beach (LGB)?
Is it possible to monitor an AI generated narration and modify the text to fix mistakes before uploading the video? @02:59 there is an obvious error when describing a minor "minute" [my-newt] change but pronouncing it as the more common measurement of time [min-uht].
At 1:59 the map should NOT include Fullerton Municipal Airport instead the intended airport should have been Ontario International (ONT) in Ontario, CA. There has been improvements to that airport in the last 20 or so years and there are more improvements in the works and oh yeah it’s an international airport
Los Angeles has for the last couple of years been making attempts to make the city more car free. This is from its current rail system running through the city and current modernization efforts being done in the downtown area. Its a slow process, and usually when you see videos from people who hate the state or city they tend to only show specific areas of the city such as skid row parts of the freeways or similar which is usually used to present down town Los Angeles as a whole or west Hollywood and they will outright avoid whole sections of the city which would look nothing like skid row. There is less cars now in the city than there has been in decades. The surrounding areas around the down town area are also slowly seeing some relief of the cars most notably north of Los Angeles heading towards Dodgers Stadium and Glendale although the gridlock in the freeways is unavoidable and parts of the surrounding sections such as south LA and West LA still suffer from gridlock. So the city still needs lots of work.
When the mayor said car free she was referring to getting to the various sporting events. It didn't mean there would be any cars in the city. It might not be as difficult as people think. Why? @@lisaroberts8556 you can never be rid of cars and personally I believe people should own a vehicle to travel or get to places. However I do believe in good city planning and making things easier for people to walk around, or travel without being stuck in a gridlock hell. Los Angeles could end up being a good example of a car centric city to finally have a workable compromise thst can benefit both people that uses cars and people that just wanna get around the city via alternate means. Let's be honest the city actually did have a decent transportation system originally before it got wiped out. I'm referring to the Red Car.
Paris didn't build a new metro for the Olympics, it was a long overdue projject that will only be completed by 2030, just like the Seine cleaning. On the contrary, since their tourism infratructure was already top notch, they only had to make minor adjustments like iincreasing the number of public transportation at peak hours or allocating highway lanes.

That Airport map is a joke. It’s missing Long Beach and Ontario Airports. AND REALLY - Fullerton Municipal Airport is for small single engine airplanes.
Also, John Wayne
Yes I would add John Wayne which is closer than some eastern airports. Also SD is going to play a major role.
You did not mention the Long Beach and Ontario airports.
It should be a little more convenient for the LA 2028 Olympic Games comparing to 1984 Olympic Games 😊
One small addition detail in all of this. There's also a BRAND NEW arena in Inglewood, the Intuit Dome, which I believe is across the street, or at least extremely close by SoFi Stadium.
This is a daring project to take on with such limited time, but only the City of Angels would take on such a task.
Yeah this is definitely going over budget and over time 😂
But it will be useful for the city and a much needed improvement. So the city gets the final laugh on this.
All these infrastructure projects were planned and approved well before the Olympics were awarded. Remember, LA was originally bidding for the 2024 games not the 2028 games.
All these projects would've gotten done even if LA had not been awarded the games. These projects were never Olympic specific.
With the Problems of LA's Measure M, this comment is a giant understatement.
@@trevorthefoamer220What problems?
Insane.
Correction @ 8:43 Los Angeles *county* has 88 cities. The City of Los Angeles has over 500 neighborhoods.
10:38 I hope SNL does a sketch from 'The Californians' about the Olympics.
Well they did a Mormon skit when Utah hosted in 2002 since it LA Scientology jokes will definitely go in
Trust me it will be funny as hell. Best of all Los Angeles citizens will still have a good laugh with it as well.
I'd wager that the first Olympics in ancient Greece were greener Olympics.
dawg this gonna be crazy i live like down town
This must have been written by AI. To say that Paris’ weather is somehow better than Los Angeles means somebody didn’t read or edit the copy.
Yeah, that cracked me up.
Use an actual human not ai
Why does it matter
Did anybody else pause it at 1:08? Yeah that’s OJ holding the torch my only question is, is that A.C. Cowlings in a white Bronco behind him? 😂😂😂
Little mistake!
The train going from East LA to Santa Monica is not the A line, it is the E line(Yellow/ new gold line)
We need express lanes on subways that are most important and lines from Santa Monica to long beach would help.
LA will largely profit from the games, but to quote the narrator, the Sofi stadium is not the largest in the NFL.
I’m glad the next olympics is going to happen here, LA used to be one of the best cities in the world and now it’s trash, I hope this fixes up the city and makes it great again
Can we make it to 2028?
People in LA need to wake up.
LA gone down the drain 😢
If they really wanna make a difference they should add some express lanes on the I-105 that freeway is so congested the green line does nothing to help traffic better off getting rid of it and replacing it with said express lanes
That old middle area where cars park they should build a mall so when delays do happen people can cross over to shop and lounge around trying a bunch of cool restaurants and eateries that LA has to offer from many popular ethnic foods
We're all waiting for LAX to get fixed. Really hope to see the it improved.
I like that statement "many athletes didn't like the Paris accommodations." Then they showed millionaire basketball players. Ha! Of course they moved to luxurious sweets in fancy hotels. I suspect most athletes were OK with where they stayed.
10:38 What train from LAX to Santa Monica are they talking about? Maybe some time in future, not yet.
Cardboard bed is not a mistake, it is the new standard of olympic village.
That was the french design and choice and to be honest well a interesting idea was largely very temporary.. Its likely that Los Angeles will use a different method perhaps 3D printed ones or similar using material that is eco friendly and best of all as a alternate type of bed to sell to consumers.
@Quetzalcoatl_Feathered_Serpent Actually, the cardboard beds were first used at the Tokyo Olympics.
@@mrxman581 Really? Oh man can't believed I missed that data.. -_-.....
@@Quetzalcoatl_Feathered_Serpent Many athletes try to make some buzz for their personal social media and cardboard bed is one of their subject.
The dorms already have beds.
Remind me again how many public toilets the city of LA has?
Most establishments around LA metro have public bathrooms making public toilets somewhat redundant.
It's not like NYC where almost no restaurant or shop has a public restroom.
The homeless call that the public street 😂
@@HoodRatsPod You're thinking San Francisco.
Start by getting rid of homelessness. Too many people living on the streets. Also clean up the streets. The city is filthy.
And some streets are not well maintained either.
Paris does NOT have more mild weather than Los Angeles.
2 yrs away from World Cup, 4 yrs from Olympic, did not see any major constructions yet😂.
They need to do something about all the trash that is everywhere (including the freeways). What happened to ticketing drivers for tossing garbage from their cars. We need a PSA campaign like we used to have to respect our city/state and not litter.
Idk. My gut feeling tells me that those who rule LA today aren't capable of finishing any of those ambitious projects.
Tesla’s Cybercab will be ready by then
The A380 was discontinued in 2021 because of low sales. I don't think LAX is going to see a lot of them.
now we see all the plan unveiling
Wouldn't it be nice if we just always invested in our infrastructure so it didn't take the Olympics coming to town to finally fix decade long problems?
The thumbnail picture😂 it would took them 10 billion years to make it happen
Well thank God I live in Texas
Paris is ‘Relatively more walkable?” … lol… it’s 100% more walkable than LA
there are more then enough stadiums and arenas for anything and everything. the main issue is the traffic really. oh yeah, keep those criminals away from targeting tourists too. that has been a problem in the city lately.
You left out Ontario's Airport in listing the major airports in the Los Angeles metropolitan area
Weird how the video completely deletes two important Los Angeles airports, and added two barely used airports, and this
Does not include a host of smaller airfields, including the decently large Santa Monica airport that has a lot of business jets flying in and out
Van Nuys and the Fullerton airports are nothing compared to Long Beach and they’re missing the Ontario airport completely as well
so its basically a video about the airport... :/
Just saying A line is Long Beach to Azusa not Santa Monica that’s E line
💯💯💯💯
$40 billion won’t do much once you account for inflation. I say $65 billion will almost cover everything.
Still no Metro line into the Valley were half the population of LA live ?
At 1:59 the map should NOT include Fullerton Municipal Airport instead the intended airport should have been Ontario International (ONT) in Ontario, CA. There has been improvements to that airport in the last 20 or so years and there are more improvements in the works and oh yeah it’s an international airport
I don’t see any way they make it car free
Cities in USA have been placing bollards at the ends of streets to block cars and that's it. Lol not that hard
Why? Because many of the sports venues and iconic areas of the city ARE accessible via the LA Metro.

I don’t want to get rid of the Cars
We gotta get those homeless people housed by 2028
11:00 That's not the map for 2028 metro lol
Los Angeles 2028 Summer Olympics!

LA 10x bigger than Paris? Thats BS.
Just hire someone to read the script. The AI voice is horrible.
lol the APM takes you to a rent a car facility..... that's the problem, people should be able to move around without driving.
Will Trump eliminate the federal funding? Seriously, LA better hope they already have the $900m in the bank.

18 out of 28 completed? And are they going to get rid of all the filth and homeless people who are on the subways?
What about homeless people on the streets? Involving tonns of mine in Olympics instead of homeless people issue
I think the zero car policy of the 2028 Olympics isn’t that realistic
New Olympics , New Challenge and Of Course more new Political Tension , I won’t surprised that the political tension won’t be so tame at the 2028 Olympics
Yea, LA is too obsessed with cars, it’s such a shame
