Really nice work on this tutorial. Much appreciated. One thing that may save you some time: when dropping a bin from one project folder into another, you don't need to close the currently open project to get the newly added bin(s) to appear. All you have to do is press Save and the bin(s) will appear.
There's probably more stuff that someone will call me out on for forgetting to mention. There's always little tricks and techniques I'm still learning.
According to my knowledge, this is the most in-depth Avid Media Composer Course out there. I just finished the first lesson. I liked your way of teaching ! Please, Keep creating more videos on Avid. Thanks._by Atik.
Haven’t worked with Avid since 2020 so that tutorial was very helpful to get to know the new interface. I also have the zoom in and zoom out command on the same keys, no matter what system I work on. 😊
I think reason why "E & R" are the same as "I & O" by default is probably because some editors prefer to use their mouse over J,K, & L for editing, making it easily accessible from their left hand. Mouse jog and shuttle though... yeah change that out lol
Thank you so much. Can you please talk about the settings file and how to make the default settings for every new project (if you choose new location) and what site settings are and how to change them etc. There is so much details in this topic, thanks.
Hello, I wanted to ask a question. For example: I have a bin with 12 videos of a conversation between two people. I want to select just a few so would there be a way to join the video into just one source timeline and then tag and use overwrite to send only the parts I want to the record
The keyboard always makes me faster. My fingers stay on JKL whenever I edit, and the keyboard shortcuts allow me to be quicker to make edits. If you ever see really fast editors (news editors) they edit like they're typing. Any keyboard would be fine, but I prefer one with a dedicated number pad on the right side. Allows you to type frame offsets.
@@mediachadfx7626 Thanks. Yeah⌚️I always how news editors work so fast. What about keyboards that have dedicated colors such as Logickeyboard. Is it worth it?
@@sharonleibel I don't think it's worth it. My best advice is to find a photo of the Avid keyboard and print out a huge 11x17 of it and tape it to the wall in front of your edit station
Kit, it's entirely up to you if you want to learn. You need to be passionate about it. But I can assure you, there are plenty of fantastic editors who identify as women. Some of the best editors in film history have been women. Thelma Schoonmaker, Anne Coates, Verna Fields, Mary Jo Markley. I've worked with lots of women editors and I can honestly say they are always better than I am. The truth is, I teach at a college and in my program we have a lot more men in the classes. Unfortunately, men are often encouraged to go into tech based fields, where women are not. I'd like to encourage you to get into it, if you have an interest. At 20, you may not see a lot of women in your video classes or experiences, but there are so many amazing women editors out there. (Sorry if I say "you guys" in my tutorials too much. I'm working on it, but it's the Jersey in me)
@@mediachadfx7626 Thank you so much for the reply! I’m in college right now and i enjoy editing, I want to become an assistant editor im thinking. There are more men but your words are really encouraging.. thank you for the tutorials 🙏
After film and television in the 80s and 90s I began my nonlinear adventures in 93 and haven't looked back... I stopped editing all together in 2010. Well...I'm back! Being a bit rusty i am relearning on the latest goodies. I couldn't have gotten close without your tutorials. one thing that would help me immensely would be to get a copy of your personal settings. Does being a brand new subscriber allow me to inquire about that? gw groupwentertainment ?
Finally a video that's not "what's new with avid media composer "

This totally works! I could've sworn I knew that. That's much easier. Good looking out.
Fantastic walkthrough that covers little bits that other videos ignore or gloss over!

I'll keep working. I feel like there's no way to be in depth enough. But I'm trying.

Chad, Do you find the keyboards help you, or get in the way? And if yes, Which one would you recommend for Mac?

Hey man get to the point, If this is about Avid. Forget the other stuff.
Are there no women in this field i am a 20 year old girl and wonder if i should learn this
