As a twin turbo 2nd gen owner, that happens to farm when I'm not scalloping on the ocean.... you just gave me the best idea. However, I'm not sure the mud grapplers will do as good as those tracks.
Cool 😎 a dodge tucker!!! Great idea 💡!!! Now you've got me thinking shortening and narrowing it to fit my 02 Toyota Tacoma!!!!! Thank you so very very much sweetheart excellent idea 💡!!!!
As the owner of a bunch of 2nd gens, this is probably the most awesome use of an old 1st gen Cummins that I’ve seen. I need a set of those tracks in my life! Much love from North Carolina 🤙🤙🇺🇸🇺🇸
@hughM9 we had an old army jeep cj3a that pulled a big gang of reel mowers on the turf farm I grew up on it was super light and quick so we Also used it to setup and check on irrigation
You can look into tow truck hydraulic pumps. They run off the crank belt and have an electric clutch, like an A/C compressor, that way the pump is only working when you want it to.
Tracks on the Cummins dodge are cool, but other than for a test load on the track setup, i'd think you wouldn't use it for tillage. Save it for feeding livestock in the snow, or other special use.
I've hooked a 21ft ih470 disc 20"blades half way to spools with mine to get it out of the way my brother was coming across feild with planter L 2nd 4.10 rears 320kmile on old12v
I hardly doubt it this drivetrain is going to stand up in the same I don't know much about it but it would seem obvious that you're pulling way more than it was built for
Rubitracks web page says 40% speed reduction with tracks, that's good torque improvement. $21000+-. I'm sure there's business apps that justify a $21G pickup track conversion, not sure heavy tillage is one of those. Very cool demo though!
I live in the south, and have two gardens,in low wet, black soil bottom land. I think, trucks frame, and drive line are just not heavy enough for this, but I could see this set up, being really useful for larger market farms, think mabe 10 to 15 acres, using implements, half this size. Tillers, field cultivators, spreaders etc. Implements mabe the size for a farm all or a little bigger.
Nothing works better for tractoring than a tractor. She sounds like she's pulling hard lots of torque on everything, and it's hard to keep her together.
All jokes aside I think it's a great idea......improved drive line and a little more torque maybe a 8.3? I don't know.....but the eaton conversion to a 15 speed or a 9mll would be badass
Proper hydraulic pump and a PTO shaft it might make a decent tructor I could see a pull behind swather a rake sprayer a disc maybe even a plow depending upon gearing
That Cummins engine is designed to run at 20 to 2100 RPM at full pool if you're not running at that high RPM it will overheat because you're lugging the engine
I replaced the front shaft on my 3 rd gen by using a 2nd gen's which was just an inch longer than my 3 rd gen's . All i did was cut it 1 " off and it fits and works perfect
That’s what I’m wanting to do to a truck for hunting and getting through snow. What kind of wheels did you use for the bogie’s? I’ve been trying to find any build plans, but I can’t find any anywhere. Whoever thought up the idea for those, is genius.
The steering boxes used to crack the frames around the mounting bolts on stock trucks frequently, re-inforcement should be mandatory. I'd also question fluid temps in entire driveline.
Por que comprar um trator caríssimo e manutenção carissima, se tem uma picape que faz o mesmo trabalho e com baixa manutenção. Parabéns pela ideia genial.😎
Fun,but it won’t last long. Truck frames are made to flex. All that stress and flex will break that frame. There is a reason tractors are made out of cast.
If you can get a PTO connection and 3pt hitch you're on par with a tractor in terms of implements. If the tracks also had a mechanical gear reduction or you rebuilt the transmission and geared it down that would expand the possibilities also. Very cool guys. With inflation these days I'm betting this becomes more common. Now that you tried this how viable is using a truck as a tractor?
The tranny fluid will boil unless you lock the torque converter up you can power up the lock up solenoid and lock it up in first and second a manual would be better for that job
@@westislespecialprojects that's right they didn't start that until 94 I use to put 94 trannies in 93s so they'd have lockup and then just wired it up with a toggle switch
Just curious about the implement What's it called because shanks look too short for soil saver and cultivators don't usually have discs? Also what conventional HP tractor does it take to draw it?
I take it you have never built anything that moves or drives in your life eh? This is a cool build and you know it, your just projecting your jealousy.
That hitch deserves all the credit.
The whole back of the frame had all cross memeber a replaced. We tied the hitch in to all of them
Leave it to a farmer to build this. What a cool rig. Nice build guy
1st gen dodge Cummins are the OG king of working diesel trucks .good to see these tracks are usable all year round.impressive performance .
I ain't seen anything like this before.. an I watch alot of farming UA-camrs. That's badass for real. I figured it would roll some smoke out..
Roll smoke is all it'll do
I remember back in 70s Chevrolet had a commercial where they had a 4x4 truck pulling a plow in the field
Wasted fuel
As a twin turbo 2nd gen owner, that happens to farm when I'm not scalloping on the ocean.... you just gave me the best idea. However, I'm not sure the mud grapplers will do as good as those tracks.
I love your ingenuity with your pick-up. tractor.

Looks like it works real good in that ground!

Awesome ! Nice to see a pickup pull a plow that is actually down in the soil doing something
The old original Land Rovers in England used to plough with an actual 3 furrow plough.

Look into a belt driven hydraulic pump with an electromagnetic clutch like an ac compressor, that's what a lot of your bale beds use
This is GENIUS. He has a $250,000 John Deere 8R or 9R for a Penny on the $.💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
Cummins was the best thing dodge ever borrowed.
Tracks on the Cummins dodge are cool, but other than for a test load on the track setup, i'd think you wouldn't use it for tillage. Save it for feeding livestock in the snow, or other special use.
Pulls it so smooth.

It was just for fun
@@westislespecialprojects I understand, but I still think it could be viable for market gardens, or even small farms, just with smaller implements.
In search of a relationship as strong as that hitch

Neat innovative design of a quad track
Run the coolant in the big water tank in the back to keep it cool
@@mmm365 that much passive heat sink sure would though
for a ram truck, this is awesome.
That's an awesome truck
Man that is awesome!!!! I wouldn't comment on any negative comments very good idea 👍
Proper farmer ingenuity
BRILLIANT!
A belt drive vane pump off the front will give you live hydraulics.
Nothing works better for tractoring than a tractor. She sounds like she's pulling hard lots of torque on everything, and it's hard to keep her together.
Of course tractors are better, but projects like this are what farmers do for hobbies. You should know that.
Farmers have been making trucks into tractors stating with the model T.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT
WHAT A POWER PLANT UNDER THE HOOD A
THATS JUST PLAN BAD ASS YOUS GUYS
For real the top bad arsss I have seen on UA-cam need 1 ton or heavier axle drive Tran and front end I can’t wait to see what comes next
now THAT is a tractor.
You NEVER leave hydraulic equipment under pressure. Learned that in ‘65. Cool prime mover tho.

I manufacture these tracks, the bogies are forklift tires
@@westislespecialprojects I thought those looked like forklift tires, but I wasn’t sure.
Ambition strikes UA-cam channel, builds some tracks for a jeep from scratch. Shows the build process pretty good.
My neighbors already think I'm crazy. Thanks for the one uppance!
Are the tracks hard on ball joints and tie rods and what not and does the treads where out easily on dirt roads and pavement

Wicked truck! At least you can repair it yourself, and run it on homemade biodiesel.
Muito legal, pensei que era uma GM d20
The car cardan is not designed for long-term load, therefore it is used minimally in tractors
Every 4wd John Deere has two of them in the front axle…
Can you run a pump off the transmission? Sometimes there's a pto that you can run off of. Maybe you can add one if it doesn't?
I love that truck. Want.
Fun,but it won’t last long. Truck frames are made to flex. All that stress and flex will break that frame. There is a reason tractors are made out of cast.
My suggestion Needs more front weight to be able to pull more than evenly
Very cool 👍
Might overheat doing that much work
Not a farmer, don’t own a tractor or a diesel truck. If he can plow with that rig a thirty year old dodge one ton is way less expensive than a tractor
We only did it to test the durability of the tracks. It’s not practical and will never replace a tractor in the field
bad ass i need one
Different, but there's a reason they make tractors.
It's very awesome so what do you done for transmission wise change on it
I like the video
The tranny fluid will boil unless you lock the torque converter up you can power up the lock up solenoid and lock it up in first and second a manual would be better for that job

She pulls pretty good eh
It looks like the front should be dropped down so the disc can cut the residue up.
They’re down, discs are wore out
@@westislespecialprojects lol, still a badass video. Don't know many trucks that could pull that off.
Cool 😎
Ditch the automatic trans and Temps will drop alot
Did you have to put sliding drag links on diffs/ axles keep from rotating track assy?
We didn’t put anything on these as they were just the prototype but production version uses limiting chains
Just curious about the implement
