- Gt Made a few Prototype trials frames for their team riders, sadly they never put them into production. Somehow The Cute Thief got his hands on one plus some parts and I had the pleasure of putting it together!
BIG thanks to Aaron Lutze for actually supplying the frame, please go check out his awesome channel here: / @superridertv
Also a big thanks to Trialtech for supplying a few of their cool products too!

Honestly, watching your videos is so much more entertaining than pretty much every other bike channel on YT, the humour, the Cute Thief, the thwacking, and just seeing a pro build some truly unique bikes, it all comes together lovely.
Lots of interesting technical commentary and almost free of background music: brilliant.
When/if you come here this summer, we can ride on our GT proto trials frames together ;)
You lucky dog! I tried winning a bid on one when Kenny Belaey was donated his for Hans' Wheels-4-Life charity eons ago. That is a brilliant looking bike.
Love this bike so much as well as the videos keep it up Ali. Definitely one of the best you tubers EVER!!
Legend! Thank you ❤
@@Ali_Clarkson This is also what sets you apart from other you tubers is how close you are to the community and your fans, nearly every comment I’ve put you have replied.
@@jurassicollie7458 I try my best 😁
The Cute Thief has become a research and materials scientist... and the performer of miracles...
About inner tubes. Try schwalbe aerothan. Ive been using them for about 7 months so far. They are 80g instead of standard tube 200-250g. You can not make snake punch with them. And funny moment. It can be used with tyre sealant for protection from small punches. But be careful with schrader rim holes and presta valves. Rim can make a punch at the bottom of a valve
I think it would work well with this year tyre to save weight but I punctured one in the front on my first ride when I last used them
@Ali_Clarkson how do tubolito tubes fare? There's also the cheaper but identical ridenow tubes, haven't had any problems using them on my dirt jumper?
YES!!! The head stem thwacker is still around!!!
Welcome back woody!!!
i love the innuendos thrown in here and there 😂
Just last weekend we had an Observed Trials Magazine slash 180 Magazine reunion up at Everstoke in the Lost Sierra region af California. I'm pretty sure Mr Lutze was in the Mag at least once. I had the honor of a 180 cover doing an X-up adubaca on the Portland waterfront. It was great seeing Joey again and almost all of the crew.
That is a beautiful bike. That polished finish is the envy of my childhood. I could only afford the painted dyno vfr but the cool kids had polished GT frames. Also like the shirt. My wife just got me the same one for father's day. Stem looks a bit too tall.
props to ct for bring by those nice parts, really a smart cat.😼 liked the idea with the rim tape, overall a really nice build. 😋👍
That is one stunning frame 😘👌
I've always been a fan of polished GT bikes.
Such a beautiful bike! Looking forward to see you riding it!😉
Awesome build! Gives me happy memories of my GT team trials bike i had way back in 90's made famous by the legendary Hans no-way ray, just way smaller obviously!
if ya want snappier braking dude, pour some coke (coca cola) over ya rims and pads, let them dry and yeah the noise will be insane, but ya brakes will be insane :D
That’s a god option for smooth rims (though I prefer tar) but a grind simply can’t be beaten especially in the wet!
@@Ali_Clarkson Silicon brake pads for smooth rims are awesome until they get dusty. You can use some water to clean the rims and the pads. They work great in dry weather, they have modulation in contrast to tar. But in a wet environment the only option to smooth rims is tar. I think it's a shame that there are no sintered or metallic brake pads available for Magura rim brakes.
@@xyriustar and wet are not a good combination pal
Violin rosin also works amazing
Thank god. I was actually thinking Ali the Madman would run it tubeless.
Add a little air to the tube before placing it so it snugs nicely in place and prevents getting stuck between the tire and the rim.
I always do 😁
Spot on mate. The polished alloy finish is top notch 👌
I didn’t know these existed.
Now I want one 😁
Valve going sideways is easily fixable! You just 'pet' the tire in the desirable direction before inflating (given the tire already sits on the rim properly of course).
And thanks for the most enlightening episode in history dude!
ps: you can rub a soap bar on the stubborn place to sit the tire. Also, many gas stations offer free air compressors (instead of soap. there might be some trickery with valve compatibility)
Oh man! I remember seeing Kenny Bealey riding these bikes, maybe 2010? Beautiful machine. Incredible job. All that Trialtech goodness😮 🤤
I still enjoy my Red Sky, Ali!! Stealth mode is a default cause disc brakes are silent. Noisy brakes are not becoming of a bike of a Red Sky's stature!!!
Automotive coolant was a thang!
I took an angle grinder to my disc brake rotor..

I works!!! The bite is insane!!
Bloody brilliant… awesome bike complimented with a sick build video..as you know I love a gt also…
10:45 you should say they weight you saved is rotational mass at the extremity of the circumference which actually helps fast acceleration for lurches more than you might think (at the risk of sounding geeky)
Love that bike. The right tyres, a 20 degrees stem (140/150) and get the bar down and the bike will get you mad
I never knew why exactly rear t tires were so finicky to inflate, I mean I do it , but your eplaination of WHY is excellent. Also great reminders WHY t rear tire characteristicsare what they are. Thank you !
Yay!!! Another bike build video!!! That GT Trials looks sweet! 😍😍😍 The cute thief really has a nice taste for bikes!!! 😸😸😸 Btw, that headset installer!!!👍 Smashing it with wood... Brings back memories...😅 Hahaha...
Had many of the GT BMX bikes in the 80's
I lusted after a pro performer back in the late 90s 😋
That is an exceptionally good looking bike!!
I have this exact freewheel on the fixed cassette hub of my polo bike. No noticable drag, and all the noise you could ask for.
That bike is a beauty!
GT are one of my favourite brands. Working in a bike shop in the very early 90’s they were my dream manufacturer.
That bike looks so cool.
Going to take it to any comps?
Hi Ali sorry I am 3 days late been busy all weekend fixing my LT450 and helping my friend with his 700 raptor Better late than never 😂😂 amazing build Great video as always and the adult joke icing on the cake
what a beatiful bike!
I've been subscribed to him for a while, and I believe he pronounces his surname "loot zee".
Another Like for the Cute Theif 👍
Ali. --->. 👑 KING of KINGS 👑
Awesome build. Can't wait to see some riding videos. Any plans to enter into any comps with it? Hope you heal up quickly!
The biggest difference I remember when switching to a front freewheel setup was how much lighter the feel was for rear wheel hops. Since you're no longer moving the chain when ratcheting back it takes less effort and feels more snappy. It was a bit unnerving watching the chain whirring at mach speed while riding between spots tho
we want to see it with a 130mm stem! :) Nice Bike and thanks for the Video!
You should modernize it as much as you can and ride it more often, that's a pretty sick bike Ali!
That is a pretty bike. Man.. I miss my ZHI Z1... Damn bike thieves!
Tidy build that Ali! Thought you were gonna say you had borrowed it off hans rey, nice of super rider to send it your way! 🤘
Wasn’t this designed with Kenny Bealey in mind? I think I recall him doing a short stint with GT.
Rad build, I was super excited when this prototype came out as I thought a major brand was getting back into having a trials bike as part of their line up. Shame it never went into mass production.
Hello Ali, amazing frame, it's a shame the chain rubs so much, Kenny complained about it a lot when he was riding it. However, please don't ride that stem, Dominique never bothered recalling them but they were always failing at the ring area, and cracked where the bolts are tightened even when using the right torque. Koxx even provided free spare rings to people who had broken them. It's a shame as the original prototype which was teased at Koxx Days in La Tour de Scay wasn't exactly made that way. Also mind the titanium axles of the Echo pedals, loads of lightweight riders have broken them. I have a question though: isnt the paint stripper bad for the caliper's seals ? Great video, keep it up!
I've broken the bodies of the Echo pedals too. They're definitely not suitable for riders over 80 kg to use for any length of time, but then I've also snapped the axle on a Hope pedal - my own fault after I 'retired' it to my trials bike for a couple of years, after at least 15 000 km of hard XC/Marathon use. I was doing a standing wheelie up a ramp at the time and when it let go, the completely blunt stump of the pedal axle ripped the skin at the side of my knee open 😞. Very little pain but it took a few hours to stop bleeding.
@@peglor it's not the body that easily breaks but the Ti axle.
@@canardweb I've broken the steel axle on an Echo platform pedal, but both me a a friend of mine have broken the bodies on the Echo cage pedals. I wouldn't go near Ti axles on anything because they're weaker than the steel ones I'm already breaking. It's always metal fatigue incidentally, not straight overloading.
Look at it shine! 🪩
Keep them puns coming Finbar Saunders 👌
Also .. cage pedals grip better in the wet.. they are literally blades cutting into your shoes.. easier to clean when they get clogged with mud during comps..
I like the look of the frame, very utilitarian. You can bill Radon, I bought slush frame after seeing your build. It really inspired me.
Also I like the trials bike history lesson =)
Legend
pretty clean.....
is this bike maybe supposed to have a chain tensioner and an oval chainring to fix the chain clearance issue? great build!
I miss having the white try-all tyres
There are a few like that in Hans' garage, except those are kind of beat up and ugly now.
Выглядит классно! Жаль что не пошел в серию
interesting that you mention rim breaks are still the better option(for 26"; I dunno how broadly you meant but suspecting it still applies), I converted 2 of my bikes(mountain) to ebike and was considering switching to disc and despite not having tried them; I was having a hard time convincing myself switching was worth it just thinking on how fast I can stop each bike on rim breaks and the amount of material on the pads
I've got an almost new rear try-all tyre in the shed if you want it?
Thanks for the offer! I actually have one here too but I never liked the rear versions, they have absolutely zero spring to them at all!
Awsome bike. Nois pure trials video incoming? Btw modern mtb tyres and trials specific rims tend to not seat. I could not get my conty trailkings seat at all. 1/4 tyre would sit 10mm deep from the rim bead. Trialtyres only since then.
Strip club :))) Awesome build! I have a couple of recommendations/questions based on this particular build. What's the point of tapered forks? I mean in reality are there any problems with standard/old forks? Also about fork/frame material. I recently had the oppurtinity to buy a Tange Ultra Light fork it's about 20 grams heavier then the aluminum Trialtech you used int his video. I don't really understand why cromo forks and frames are out of te game they weight almost exactly like aluminum, but they are more rigid and durable. I know that you're not a fan (to put it mildly:D) of Magura rim brakes, but I think they have many advantages against disc brakes. My question is what do you think is the best pads for smooth rims? Without using tar? I'm around 60-65 kgs and I think the stopping power of Magura breaks are in conection with the rider's weight. So for some poeple they're ideal for some people they lack the stoping power. And the last one, once it would be very interseting and educating to see a video when you explain which rear hubs (for rim and disc brakes) are suitable for trials and why.
When I first saw these being ridden by Kenny and Hans I thought they were just rebadged/ stickered up frames from one of the renowned manufacturers 🤔
why not using TPU inner tube ? You could get nearly the same weight than tubeless while still having a tube.
I think that could be a decent option with a thick heavy tyre like this, I have used them in the past though and they rarely survive my first ride
Love it! If you ever want rid of the frame then I'd like to cash in the favour you owe me when I sent you that Echo frame a few months back and get first dibs ;)
Would love to see trial tech doing miles more parts again, was always the strongest stuff and seemed to always "just work" no matter what, quite so with try-all as well. Very little choice or stock for parts in the trials world these days, both very unfortunate and not too good for the sport 🤔
Danny McCatskill? 😼
i have a raw ally crewkerz frame, how can i buff that up to make it really nice?
9.5 is heavy? Damn! I thought trials bikes were as heavy, bloated and unwieldy as my dad!
Modern comp bikes are about a kilo lighter than this at least
Rad , but prefer my monty OT Pi replica
talks about loud brakes me who rides chrome rims with soft pads
Make vedio for mtb bike retro trailes
Are you serious about people running water inside their brakes?
Absolutely!
Couldn't tell if you where making another joke when saying 'always wear protection when working with strippers' knowing you properly yes with your silly yet funny humour.
I can't believe UA-cam would allow videos of the inside of a Strip Club - shocking!
Get better brake pads .
Not sure if there are any better ones
To much talking.
Not enough walking
I think I like cage pedals more honestly
Ali, the link to @SuperRiderTV in the description does not work.
Works for me 🤷🏻
@@Ali_Clarkson I also got a 404 error when I tried it.
trial- shit!
