I got my first suit at age 15 (it was a full plantigrade suit and still fits me,) and honestly I think it doesn't matter if kids have fursuits or not, because there's ways to make heads and tailor bodies to accomidate for growing; That goes to say, as long as they're responsible enough to be able to care properly for it, it should be fine. You're going to have to replace the suit within a few years anyway regardless of age. Also, I've never heard of a maker that makes parts of the suit before asking for payment??? I'm a maker and I would never do that, I think that's just asking for trouble.
I think it's more of a matter of full suits like making a plantigrade or digitigrade for someone really young. It's not just the growth aspect that's the issue, it's a financial one. Not all parents are going to be willing to financially commit that much to a fullsuit for their child knowing that it will need to either be replaced or adjusted in potentially a short amount of time. If some parents can afford that, cool. It's one thing to get a child/teen a head/paws/and a tail but absolutely another thing to be having them fullsuit.
Please note this is coming from a makers standpoint. As a maker telling them to " ask for them to start before payment then talk payment." Is a great way to have makers be lead on, scammed of time/materials on our end highly potential, and many other difficulties. You should of said see if they will do a payment plan so you only have to put down a down payment so they can order materials for a CUSTOM suit. No maker has every color under the sun to begin with in fur. They can ask for proof of purchase of materials like I do with my clients. Soon as a down payment is made I go over potential furs, let them select out of a few pics of different options for each color, then order right away with screenshot of materials ordered. If I already have that color from brand in stock I let them know. Another option for suits with minors is premade partials. The way you have worded some things can cause normie parents with furry children to be more of a hassle for makers and make more of them do a no minors commissions even with parental consent. This is coming from experience from when I first started making I now have a dragon tail that is too specific from a interaction just like this. The parent changed thier mind because of something they did and now I'm stuck with a tail that I can't sell because it's to charecter specific. Exact situation. A newer maker won't know how to handle that sort of situation and will get pushed around by the parrents, which I've also seen happen. An experienced maker will say either no thank you or throw a super high price so they don't actually have to say no without sounding rude. Other tips you could have given is make sure you read the makers terms of service as these are custom made. Since they are custom made a huge portion of the money is for the makers time along with the materials. These take a long time to make. As a suit can take a maker anywhere from 40-80 hours on the head alone. These things are not made overnight. A friend had a parent demand a tracking number the next day for a full suit. Parents that aren't furries or deal with custom made items do not understand how things like this usually work. Please know this is advice as I do like your videos. And have been watching them for a long time. The rest of the video was put together very nicely and worded great.
Oble I 100% agree lol as a maker when I heard getting started without payment I was like ;0; I don’t know of any maker that does that because that is a sure way to get scammed and also if you really wanted to be sure that the maker won’t scam you just do research or ask for material cost proof or other proof :p
Hey I have a question why are there no ferrets? ;-; like. I understand the rat feet thing but I looked at pictures of them and like... the albinos have the least fur on there feet making it look like rat feet and the other ferrets with colors look like they have dog feet. I’m just saying. Like also can’t you ask them kindly that ‘if you want a ferret please know I cannot do the rat feet look and I would kindly appreciate if you decided to make them into a dog ferret hybrid so I can get everything on your order right and make dog feet instead. Thank you. And if you won’t do this I am sorry but please go and find a fursuit maker that is skilled enough to make a rat footed fursuit. Thank you for your time.’
Another opinion here, I agree with some of the comments and you, fursuits arnt like a video game or a new Xbox, they are a lot of money, and if the young fur really wants a fursuit, the max they should get should be about a partial, for a few reasons. 1. As far as I know getting partial is cheaper than getting a full one. 2. Gives them and idea of what a full fursuit will be like. 3. If they keep growing it’s best to just get a partial until, they can buy their own. That’s all from here, why yes some young furs might be urgent to tell their mom and dad that they want a fursuit, it isn’t always best to do so, give the young fur some time to think it over, and especially give the parents some time to think it over. Welp that’s it from me love the videos, keep up the good work!
I' m 13 and I've tried to do a head by myself without telling anyone with a walmart mask- when I told my mom I said we could do one together because she loves sewing and craft stuff ETC, I've done a really cool red head, paws and tail and it was REALLY CHEAP to make! I already know how to kinda do it in my own, so growth isn:t a problem!
same but i am 15 its best to listen to what hes saying bc if you get one at that age youll grow out of it before you know it but instead should get something like a partial and wait till you've fully grown then get a fullsuit so you don't grow out of it!
@@jjrainbow5343 you can still make a head, its gonna be to hard especially if your fursona is a cat/dog, there's millions on tutorials for dohs and cats. if your parents dont want you having a full head covering, like mine, you can always buy or make ears.
That's good for you, but I've known friends and family who just grow like a beanstalk within a year or two, and if they bought a fursuit before those major growth spurts, they would NOT fit at all. Some people (like myself) can literally wear the same clothes after graduation that they got back in 9th grade, but thats not everyone. So the general rule of thumb is to wait until the person getting the suit is grown up and unlikely to have anymore growth spurts
That’s a good idea! Paws are usually bigger than your hand any way, but if you’re making it yourself, make sure you give the head a little space and make it bigger than your head circumference. That way it’s more comfortable and if your head gets a bit bigger you could grow into the fursuit head
Mops spoof me to . I did want a hoverboard... But I've realized I've been in the furry community for had a year or more. I really want a partial Fursuits for Christmas and that would be it.
Personally I just made my IRL self into like a partial fursona so that I can just make ears and tail, bleach part of my hair, and basically become one of my fursonas.
I'm waiting until this quarantine ends and then I'm going to comission my fursuit. Anybody know a maker that makes good hoved suits, ideally for a Boar?
The reason why i will be making my kid's full suit. They can then see their characters develop and grow as they grow out of them. Also it will allow me to learn and get better at making the suits.
There are a lot of young teens interested in the fandom and suits. The best thing to suggest would be make a partial suit together with the kids. And, even if someone is as tall as they'll get, they could still experience changes in other dimensions. Example: A 13y/o girl is 5'7", and that's likely her full height. However because of her age, a full suit would end up too small in the hips and bust regions because they haven't completed puberty. And a young boy might end up with a much broader chest as well. Full suits are just not a good idea for kids. Especially in care department. Parents, just do your research, gather materials and help your kid make a head. Depending on how well they care for it and if they get good use out of it, then later on consider helping them save for a custom. These are honestly big bucks. It's more important to save for their college or their first car. Consider making them save their allowance, or helping them budget of they're old enough to have a job. Suits are honestly something more for adults. Crap, I nearly forgot.. parents need to remember that wearing a fursuit comes with risk. Besides overheating, when going to a convention (as I've seen many parents do with their kids) in a suit, the more fur there is, the less people will hold back. Many congoers like to get close and hug suiters. Especially in a fullsuit, it may be hard to tell what age someone is. Young people can easily become overwhelmed, uncomfortable, or even violated by others. Many incidents occur where someone tries to give a suiter belly rubs and ends up going too high or too low. It's also possible that other suiters in a group could begin adult conversation with the child, simply because it's hard to tell that they are underage. This is something parents need to take into account. *Disclaimer: obviously I don't mean a convention is not a safe place, but accidents happen when anonymity is involved.
This is kinda why i just want a dino mask fursuit bc 1: It has more jaw abilities 2: They are just a little over $100 3: they are also much easier to make (in my opinion)
I started making suits when I was 11, and my first suit was AMAZING. I nailed all the markings and the fur and the shaving and I have no idea how considering I did the suit myself. I still have him even though he doesn’t fit me anymore, he brings back good memories of when I’d play with kindergarteners at my school while in my suit.
hey i been on this fandom for a long time and i haven't get suit and i feel like getting a 16 old with a fursuit doesn't sound bad also if he grows out of it i think he can just get a stretch and a re-fur...
I am a child and have started making a fursuit! my parents cheer it up a lot, and I have discussed what I want, can do or will do and so far I've just decided to with a partial but I absolutely love all the time and love that is spent making it, just seeing the character mold into something that you love. It's also great time spent, I get lots of experience and new techniques. learning from a young age is pretty amazing :)
Remember Exchange costs, Yeah... They are gonna be your arch enemy when getting anything ESPECIALLY FURSUITS. And if you forgot about shipping costs, your gonna be reminded by that hefty fee.
that manokit on the thumbnail--- it was so CUTE- so beautiful too-- also, I built my own fursuit when I was little- I kept building off and taking things off as I grew up xdd I kept the material cheap and simple until I stopped growing, haha. Children should do this, they will see a great improvement as they continue to build and replace as the years go on. I was astonished when I saw how my first suit looked in the beginning and how it looks now.
I’m a kid and I’m making a suit. I bought some paws from furryvalley and to be honest. I like fursuit making, though I only made 1 which is my fursona, Zean.
Adding on: A good alternative is buying a Jurassic World dino mask. They are normally 20 or so USD at target, 40 - 50 (sometimes more) USD on amazon. It is just a mask you can wear, and you can customize it if you want (like with acrylic paint).
A possible solution is to make it a family heirloom. Pass it down like some do with other childhood costumes and clothing. There are some makers that I would totally consider heirloom quality.
I wanna add for parents to make sure that the fursuit maker is willing to work with minors what what age is the minimum for them. Me personally I only work with minors 15 years old (i have it as 13 rn but I'm lifting the age up) and older, and I limit what they can buy. If someone under 17 wants a fursuit from me they can only order a mini partial (head, hands, and tail) since thats what will last longer for them.
I wouldn't get them one at all. Wait until their grown and can buy it themselves. It would be more meaningful to them then just having it given to them.
Instead of just ignoring your child’s interests, I’d say invest the time and make one with your kid. Because then A. They’ll be proud of wearing something they made, B. Their parent supports them and C. They won’t feel alone
When I told my parents I wanted a fursuit, they respectably said no, despite the fact that I like to think I met all of the criteria. However, they did put money into buying me supplies to make my own. Personally, I feel like this is a good approach as well. I had fun doing it, it was a good learning experience, and I have so much respect for the work of other makers and am committed to taking care of it because of the fact that I really poured a ton of effort into making her.
My fursuit is only going to be a partial and not a full suit so I can commission the bodysuit when I'm done growing (and I actually think I've stopped)
I know that I’d probably grow out of a fullsuit, and knowing how expensive they are I’ve decided to just create my own partial. I have a dino mask that im designing and I plan on making paws and a tail for it later!
As a 12-13 year old fursuit maker I have a family member my size ( a bit bigger ) and she helps me with sizes as I can grow into my suits for future references ( please don’t argue about my age ) 😊
I asked my sister for a premade partial on Etsy, about $300 for christmas last year. She laughed in my face. Not asking my family for anything furry-related for awhile..
I’d say always start with a partial, like a tail and handpaws, maybe even feet or a head, never start with a fullsuit because that can cause so many problems.
I'm kinda young around my teens, but I've been into this fandom for atleast 3 years. I just recently told my parents about wanting to make some deer legs, their reactions were a bit.. not so good. But ever since I told them, I Have lost my focus in nearly everything for wanting to make these legs. I mean, I can barely sleep or focus on school. Should I give it a break or keep trying to make these legs?
2:20 $500 😂. I’m spending over $1200 JUST for my Sergal head. It would be $1800 for paws and tail included. Full suit is over $4k and that’s lowballing it.
One recommendation for younger furrys is a dino mask you can adjust the size of the mask and put fur on it yes some people do not say that it is not a fur suit but it is recommended for the child to be fully grown
Im 12, but my main plan is to get a adult sized head, and i can temporary fit it until i grow and ill change it as i grow bigger, and if it still fits me then ill keep it, if it doesn't ill give it to one of my younger cousins who i trust is mature with it etc. but tbh thats just my plan/idea.
I’m 14, and my mom doesn’t even know I’m in the fandom. However if I did ask if I could buy one with MY OWN MONEY, she’d say no. I also wanna go to a con but I already know I wouldn’t be allowed that either :( I’m saving up and next summer I’ll be working a job.
My first fursuit lasted 13years until my ex wife set it on fire. When I do look into getting my next suit I am going to : 1) Beastcub creations 2) DHC 3) MFL 4) MFY 5) SplinterFox, Or one of the other makers that I have been looking at. Yeah some of our suits were by today's standards are cringe but they were nice and they were ours. Yes the cons are really great but if you look there are a lot that stay in their groups, when I was in we mingled and went out to make new friends and to meet others things were good. We also stood by each other through thick and thin. There are a few things that I have seen that gave caused a few tears to flow, kids were always welcomed into the fold now they are all but turned away because of their age. We need to include the kids once more they will enjoy the experience even though they dont have a suit, it does not matter. When a new suiter comes into the fandom welcome them with open arms give the new furs lots of hugs they need it. If we all do our part we can bring new life back into the fandom and make it even better than ever, make the fandom into something to be proud of. Walk the walk paw in paw side by side, no matter who you or what you are.
Coming from a Minor, I make my own fursuits(not full body ones cause I don’t have enough skill for that) but I would first advise you to ask your child to try to make a fur suit. I’ve been in the fandom for 2 years and my fur suit heads are pretty nice I guess, but If I were to ever get a fur suit I’d want a partial just cause I don’t want lot’s of money to be put into that. That’s just my opinion but yeah
while im over here wanting a fursuit for years but is too scared to even talk about what furrys are and what my parents googled and found out ab furys is wrong
Personally for me, currently making a fursuit, I’m making a adult fursuit that I know will fit me on the stages since it’s inky partial currently, using adult sized hands and feet since for now I’m not my “full grown person”, so the head and everything have bindings or fittings that can easily be adjusted
I'm 15 and saved up for a fullsuit. It cost me $450 AUD (Before anyone says anything, the low price doesn't actually mean anything. The suit was made by Winterwood and is mq, mq-hq at most and is actually very well made for their second suit and first fullsuit. I was their first customer and got it for less as they were using it to advertise their work. I have been a Furry as long as I remember. My first anthro oc was created in kindergarten and has stayed with me until now, but she is not the oc I commissioned the suit of. I let the maker choose which oc of mine they wanted to create as they were selling me a suit for so little.
Another cool idea is buying a raptor mask, you can find these at stores or amazon! They’re pretty cheap and you can paint them! Also the jaws with these mask can move
Something that I'm seeing is a lot of young furs starting to make their own suits. One suit I know was made by a minor, and her father's seen her potential well enough that she's getting commissions--though how they're negotiating taxes and payment, I'm not sure. I'm positive the father takes care of the legalities, and I haven't seen anything to suggest he's taking advantage of her gift. I hope she does well. I'm glad that more people are starting to create, because that could mean more competition and options. I must say that I'm coming across a strange predicament, what with me being older. Quite often when I'm heading to events, the fursuiters I come across tend to be under the age of 18. Very rarely are their parents with them, which can be troubling in and of itself. I'm not doing anything untoward, but the social landscape is a bit awkward to navigate through when you can potentially have a bad situation. I'm not even sure letting them know my age helps matters, but if there isn't anyone looking after them, I tend to keep an eye on them myself. At a convention I attended before the worldwide quarantine, I came across a young fur who was 12. The only time I saw either of her parents was when her father came to pick her up. She was lonely otherwise and I was trying to keep her company. =_= I think what happened was they got to the check-in and after he checked her in, he just left her there. Parents, please don't leave your children unattended at a convention.
Im a young teenager, and instead of buying I make my own. I also don’t make full suits. Alright so this is my opinion. Parents, if your child is under like 12 or 11, do not get them a suit. An amazing idea would be to get an animal mask such as a Dino mask, which you can easily decorate or paint. If your child is 11-15 or so, you can get them maybe a partial or full suit if you’ve got money to burn. Keyword, *money to burn*. I say that because your kid is absolutely gonna grow out of it. In my opinion get them maybe a partial or maybe encourage them making their own! What I learned from making my own suits is that you learn kinda what to expect when owning a fursuit. Also, this will save you SO MUCH money and time. 10/10 recommend. Anyway, if ur kid is 15+, go ahead and get ‘em a partial or full suit if they have earned it! But make sure that they have worked for it and earn it
I’m 14 and don’t have nearly enough for a fullsuit with the digitigrade legs, so I’m saving to buy one when I’m older and know that no more growth will occur. I don’t know which maker I’d commission, but I’ll cross that bridge when I get there.
Im a kid and im desperate to be a furry i have a black fox tail and i wore to school im in 5th grad mind u and someone started making fun of but i dont care but yeah i wanna be a protogen

Oble I 100% agree lol as a maker when I heard getting started without payment I was like ;0;
I don’t know of any maker that does that because that is a sure way to get scammed and also if you really wanted to be sure that the maker won’t scam you just do research or ask for material cost proof or other proof :p
Or something like that.

I’d say buy a partial and maybe a full body once they’re done growing. And you never know, their fursona or oc might change.

I’m going for a mini partial. I’m 13, just a tail, a head, and some paws
That’s a good idea! Paws are usually bigger than your hand any way, but if you’re making it yourself, make sure you give the head a little space and make it bigger than your head circumference. That way it’s more comfortable and if your head gets a bit bigger you could grow into the fursuit head

This is kinda why i just want a dino mask fursuit bc
1: It has more jaw abilities
2: They are just a little over $100
3: they are also much easier to make (in my opinion)
I started making suits when I was 11, and my first suit was AMAZING. I nailed all the markings and the fur and the shaving and I have no idea how considering I did the suit myself. I still have him even though he doesn’t fit me anymore, he brings back good memories of when I’d play with kindergarteners at my school while in my suit.

I am a child and have started making a fursuit! my parents cheer it up a lot, and I have discussed what I want, can do or will do and so far I've just decided to with a partial but I absolutely love all the time and love that is spent making it, just seeing the character mold into something that you love. It's also great time spent, I get lots of experience and new techniques. learning from a young age is pretty amazing :)

that manokit on the thumbnail--- it was so CUTE- so beautiful too--
also, I built my own fursuit when I was little- I kept building off and taking things off as I grew up xdd I kept the material cheap and simple until I stopped growing, haha. Children should do this, they will see a great improvement as they continue to build and replace as the years go on. I was astonished when I saw how my first suit looked in the beginning and how it looks now.
Me a 13 year old hearing the start and wondering how i got here from watching once upon a time from netfix:
Tip if your child is under 16 first buy a Dino mask
"If it's near the holidays which it's not"
Me: ITS MY BIRTHDAY IN TWO DAYS
I wanna add for parents to make sure that the fursuit maker is willing to work with minors what what age is the minimum for them. Me personally I only work with minors 15 years old (i have it as 13 rn but I'm lifting the age up) and older, and I limit what they can buy. If someone under 17 wants a fursuit from me they can only order a mini partial (head, hands, and tail) since thats what will last longer for them.
I wouldn't get them one at all. Wait until their grown and can buy it themselves. It would be more meaningful to them then just having it given to them.
You could wait until you're 50 years old
@@SprayJuice if it takes that long to save up I suppose
i dont think just giving it to them is the best idea, id say making one with them is better, maybe theyd become a fursuit maker.
@@zanegarglezsehmen that's actually not a bad idea, much more sentimental value as well as it will reach them some useful skills.
I would say that would be perfectly fine to get your child a fursuit (if they are mature enough of course)
As a 12-13 year old fursuit maker I have a family member my size ( a bit bigger ) and she helps me with sizes as I can grow into my suits for future references ( please don’t argue about my age ) 😊

One recommendation for younger furrys is a dino mask you can adjust the size of the mask and put fur on it yes some people do not say that it is not a fur suit but it is recommended for the child to be fully grown
And the full suit is what am getting
Im 12, but my main plan is to get a adult sized head, and i can temporary fit it until i grow and ill change it as i grow bigger, and if it still fits me then ill keep it, if it doesn't ill give it to one of my younger cousins who i trust is mature with it etc. but tbh thats just my plan/idea.
The cheapest fursuits are dino masks
Get em a dino mask then ! DONT LET EM MAKE A FULL SUIT THEY WILL GROW OUT OF IT
Considering I only grew 9 inches in 2 years.. I’ll be fine.
I mean...I've order d a fursuit head. I won't outgrow that. Smarty
Personally, I’m currently making a fursuit head I got foam today. My opinion is to make it a bit oversized then later on it will still fit

I got my first suit at 13, I ordered a larger size and that was a great idea since my fursuit took 1 year to make, when I got it It fit perfectly .
Me and my mom were building a fur suit instead, I think it’s better than buying because you get skills. Buying usually looks better though.
Personally for me, currently making a fursuit, I’m making a adult fursuit that I know will fit me on the stages since it’s inky partial currently, using adult sized hands and feet since for now I’m not my “full grown person”, so the head and everything have bindings or fittings that can easily be adjusted
I feel like you can get at least a mini partial when you are about 14 :))
I'm 15 and saved up for a fullsuit. It cost me $450 AUD (Before anyone says anything, the low price doesn't actually mean anything. The suit was made by Winterwood and is mq, mq-hq at most and is actually very well made for their second suit and first fullsuit. I have been a Furry as long as I remember. My first anthro oc was created in kindergarten and has stayed with me until now, but she is not the oc I commissioned the suit of. I let the maker choose which oc of mine they wanted to create as they were selling me a suit for so little.

Tbf I’m a furry gamer- so I would want both a ps5 and a fur suit
You could just not.
You posted this on my birthday so, Haza!
Parents, please don't leave your children unattended at a convention.
me, a child who made a partial and a fullsuit with my dad and grandma: this video is a bit late :v

That’s why you only create the mask 😌
I am 13 and I'm only spending about $100 fursuit it's being made by a family friend so they did not charge as much
It's also a full suit
I’m 14 and don’t have nearly enough for a fullsuit with the digitigrade legs, so I’m saving to buy one when I’m older and know that no more growth will occur. I don’t know which maker I’d commission, but I’ll cross that bridge when I get there.
