Thank You All for an incredible 2021! Looking forward to a new fleet of cars to film this year. Thanks for liking and sharing the videos to increase the reach.
Only car reviewer worth the time to watch haha
All the best for 2022! Your videos driving around my house save me time from going to all the dealers to test drive these cars!
I get the same thrill driving these AMG GTs. Great review! I enjoyed the intro and the drive. Interestingly, these GT 53s aren't selling as much in sales. What's your take on the GT 43? I just subscribed to your channel.
Unpopular opinion I suppose, but I absolutely love how big these tyres look. Never been a fan of this trend to skinny tyres on massive rims.
There's something so comforting about the practical look of a 'lil extra rubber.
@@matthamilton5711 Indeed! I am starting to love that as well more and more
The thing that makes my 2002 v6 camry look good is the fat goodyear tires on it 🤣 skinny tires are ugly honestly
big rubber small iron ftw
@@Taffaff yum
I think it's a great car I just get so frustrated when BMW and Mercedes don't use their sport badges correctly and now half their lineup is M or AMG
Yes! The M badge used to be something coveted, now BMW plasters it on anything with wheels. The M240, M340, M440, etc. are fine cars, but it used to be when you drove a BMW M car, it was a truly special experience. I guess they realized they could sell them to people that really wanted an M-model but didn't want to spend the ///Money
@@gabrielromig5470 performance and chassis are good but i agree they use the badge to sell more
@@gabrielromig5470 i think the 40s are fine with the M badge but the mx35i was always weird to me when that was a thing
its cause not everyone is rich and they want their “tunable cars” to stand out from the rest obviously
@@gabrielromig5470 Yes, of course there are some different the M...40 versions, like you've mentioned. But what's so bad about it?
BMW itself calls the M...40 engine as "M Performance" and everybody knows this and has to accept it. BMW has never tried to communicate these cars as "fully M" cars. Therefore "M Performance" as kind of "M base cars" is totally OK.
BMW has M Performance and "true" M, Audi has S and RS, AMG has the 43/53 and 35/45 engines as "base AMG", but also the bigger "full AMG" 63 versions. Also Porsche has 911 GT3 and even faster RS versions, so as their whole model line up from smaller to big with a "base" car, S, GTS, Turbo and Turbo S versions, plus all of their PHEV in between... That's just their business case and you have to accept it!
Carmakers have to differentiate their car line-ups with different engines and different prices.
It's almost funny, how some "not so rich" and seemingly kind of "pissed" wannabe BMW M drivers like you are complaining "the M badge is plastered on anything with wheels". Such statements are mostly coming from kind of guys, who aren't cool enough to accept M base versions, because they struggled many years financially to even afford a used and beaten up M car... 😂.
I know people like you... 🤣!
Cool down, buddy, because you certainly aren't the purest of the pure BMW M drivers at all. 😉
Very interesting car. It seems like a 4-door sports car that you can daily drive, that masive boot/trunk is a bonus. Thank you for showing it to us, Tedward.
A door 4 car that you can daily drive and has a trunk... what’s interesting about that? That’s most vehicles on the road.
Great car and review! What i still think is funny when watching us car reviews: you are hammering down full throttle to around 80mph and then have to stop. It just feels wrong not being able to just go. Anyways, keep it coming!
trust me I'd like to keep going.
Tell me about it! My Mercedes is far older & lesser, but it definitely is angry with me stopping at 80 & does beg for at least 100.
I've driven the 53 a couple of times, it's a great car and I love every minute with it! I would love to take the -63S for a spin sometime, to see how it compares.
63s isnt a car.
it's a rocket. lol
It isnt a good car with maintinence factored in. Fun to drive a nightmare to own
@@ahahuehafook4207 oh yea?
you an owner? Cus i have owned one for a couple of years and it’s fine as i use it as a daily driver.
@@ahahuehafook4207 I know the owner and he loves it. He's had it for almost 2 years now and has never been in the shop for anything outside of an oil change
The 63s doesn’t compare lol. That’s a whole 350 more HP than the 53.
This power train is super underrated! Wish this would be shoved in the C - Class.
People would’ve been happy if they had used this powertrain in the new c63 instead of the 4 popper. It would’ve been a proper m3 competitor. What a waste
@@insayn7995 couldn’t agree more
@@insayn7995 Absolutely. The fact that you can get a BMW inline 6 for about half the price of the new 4cyl C63 is obscene.
It’s crazy to say 19in wheels are small but they look tiny on the 53. Nonetheless, looks way fun to drive though
on an e class or a 5 series 19" are still big but on the gt 4 door it looks smal because the diameter of tire is way more bigger
@@enai-lo ahh that makes sense! Yeah the 19” look like 16 on the 53 haha
The sound makes me happy!
The king of POV strikes again still trying to figure out how he does it
The unmistakable howl of a Bombardier Challenger 300 right at the end of the video haha
that mercedes is one of my dream car. the interior screen is my favorite. so clean
3:26 was a god tier transition
amazing channel! the way you present us the cars and supercars and talk about them is awesome, we can feel the passion you have. i'm brazilian and now a big fan of yours, keep the good job!
Thank you!
Your channel is amazing i love watching your reviews and all your pov driving videos in general keep up the amazing work cant wait to see how your horizons expand
Thank you!!!
Great start to my day! 🔥🔥
Same here brother!
Woah! Is this a modern performance car with SIDEWALL? Who woulda thunk!
Chunnnnnky tires are so good! More of this
Waking up to a new Tedward video, what a way to start a day. If you had to pick, column mounted paddle shifters or wheel mounted paddle shifters?
You should try and drive an older 4.7 Maserati Quattroporte, best sounding car ever made!
those shifts sound great. so much heft to them
Would love to see the comparison vs Panamera 4S 😉
Happy New Year! Either this or the GT 63 is my dream car, just look at the stance on that beauty!
I think the boost is instant there because there is a magnetic clutch at the supercharger. Just a guess because mercedes has made a magnetic clutch in the past too. So when you go on the throttle it clutches in and the supercharger provides boost.
Happy new year and this is an amazing car, thanks Ted for this gift!
Supercharged, Turbocharged, AND Hybrid?? Pfff, that's gonna be one expensive repair bill when that all goes to shit.
Sorry haven't been able to watch many vids cuz it's an important acedemic year for me, but great work sir!!! Keep goin🤩👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Get that work done!!! Good luck Dev
Responds every single time! Such a great person😁 Thank you!❤️
Dev, might I suggest watching the videos as an occasional respite from your diligent studies. You may find yourself refreshed and able to resume your academic work with a renewed zeal.
@@kevinodonnell7616 I've been trying to do that but sometimes I get taken away in the deeps of yt😂 Thanks for the advice though!
Damn that sounds good…. M103/M104 vibes right there.. love Benz 6 cylinders.
Wow, nice video....nice car!! One of the selected few "If I had the money" modern cars for me!
If I had the cash for this ballpark of car, this is one I would def go and check out. Seems to have minimal compromise.
GT is 911 competitor, GT 4-door is Panamera competitor
2:55 needs rear bumperettes like the CLA or a 1980s Porsche 911.
Here for the merc. I may get one. Like the straight 6 cylinder
Love the looks and color of this one, sound is a bit disappointing.
Can you imagine the future repairs? This is most likely the all time leader in things that can eventually go wrong with no parts being available.
I mean you could say that for almost all premium European cars of this century.
@@POVShotgun Specifically this powertrain, and no, not all of them
@@alh06 ehh almost all. S600s are dirt cheap for a reason
Yes! That's first that comes to mind when I hear the setup in this car
I think we can thank emissions regulations for that. I'm just glad to see Merc do something with more than 4 cyl nowadays.
I saw one of these on the road a month ago. It was white and had fat and wide tires. At first I thought it was an crossover from the rear because it has a rear like a GLE.
I love that Mercedes is slowly ditching the V6 for an inline 6!
I'm glad that both Mercedes and Audi make their models still attractive looking. I was never a big fan of Mercedes back in the days cause of their fisheye headlight design and weird bulky bumps in their design range.
With BMW its now reversed, I loved the BMW models till about 2018-ish when they started to implement that ugly grill. Here in Europe it gets somewhat hidden with the license plates, but it still looks weird to me.
Audi had the same grille issue in their 2017-2018 range but they managed to keep it still somewhat neat looking.
Mercedes is starting to finally tickle the part of me that makes me like their models. Their EV and Hybrid range looks great and I'm certainly liking how they continue with their good quality interior design.
To come to facts, I've not driven the new Mercedes's yet, but I'd love to spend a few days with one to see if they could pull me over from their competitors.
Ted, once again, a lovely video. Glad to see your excitement with the cars within your reviews, its translated in the way you compose them, which comes back to us.
I would make a suggestion, but I don't want you to copy Doug. That'd be if you'd be able to make a secondary video or part where you go a little more in depth on the functions of the vehicles, perhaps a review if those vehicles would be daily-worthy.
But see as you fit, its just something I'd like to see personally because of the the way you make your content. 👍🏻
I get the same thrill driving these AMG GTs. Great review! I enjoyed the intro and the drive. Interestingly, these GT 53s aren't selling as much in sales. What's your take on the GT 43? I just subscribed to your channel.
Great content as always look to the p400 defender and you will see this engine combo is becoming common...
I feel like the EQ boost system, even though it's marketed towards the performance aspect of the vehicle, is more of a fuel efficiency thing not necessarily for the individual owner of the car but for MB to achieve fleet targets because of all the emissions and fuel economy crap going on with big Governments.
I live in a north eastern metropolis with a population of over 2 million people and I’ve NEVER seen one of these in the wild.
Amazing review Ted! love the color on it aswell. Would this not be a panamera competitor?
Looks nice and slick. Just as it runs as well 😎
Amazing car !
Now we wanna see the gt63s
I don’t understand why it has to be so over engineered. Why not just a turbo or supercharged inline 6 with the 4 matic? Especially if it’s not even that exhilarating as he says.
That’s a car to dream of
9:49 a saab 93 😍😍
Awesome car!
A Turbo'd...Supercharged...Hybrid! Very Interesting...
Can you also take a look at the Audi S7 as well? They are both pretty close and are in competition with one another.
Yes, it may lack some 'lunacy', but is plenty quick for me, as well as buttery, easy, useable, practical almost. And yet it sounds EPIC.
Almost got one of these, decided on an M550i instead
good looking and good performance. just need bigger wheels these one are a bit small for this big tank
I remember when these first came out. I was haopy to see Mercedes bring back their inline 6. However my big gripe with this generation of Mercedes. Is they are all digital gauges, I miss Mercedes analog gauges. They where so beautiful, the new lcd screens look cheap and very un Mercedes.
1:25 Confirmed: My 04 Subaru legacy automatic wagon is a sports car because frameless windows!
Interesting car!
This is more of a liftback than a hatchback (or are these terms used interchangably in the US?)
Where is the full throttle part at the highway? Very annoying buying a car and not being allowed to drive it out completely😬😂
Lol @ divorced parent! It’s done that way because Mercedes built it and added AMG styling cues to it.
The car was not built by AMG from ground up. A lot of people get this mixed up. Only the 45, 63, GTR, SL are true AMG. Open the hood and you will see the official signature.
Never the less the amalgamation of drive train components on this beast is just mind blowing.
The optional exhaust is AMG Performane Exahust(AMG PE) . The standard is Sport Exhaust..... correct me ?
Sounds enhanced by speakers, guess the microphone picks it up more than in person
So I can say that it’s turbo charged, supercharged and electrically charged 😂😂 (credits to throttle house for that line)
Mercedes Mechanic: I ain't touching anything on that engine without $5k upfront!
We should start calling them engineers at this point instead of mechanics
@@Alumnikiid well most services are required to have one engineer on hand to inspect and sign paperworks on any job. This being said I know a few automotive engineers that are also mechanics and they hate working ok hybrids, such complex cars...
I have a a GT53 Mine for some reason sounds has a lot of cracks for a V6
When they have a C63 with a 4 cylinder, you almost have to let this be excepted as an AMG lol! The 4 cylinder is hand made😏. Anyway, I would like this car because it is quite when I want it to be and it can get up and go when I want it. This is the perfect daily driver! I actually believe the GT63 or 63S might be annoying to daily drive even in comfort. I could be wrong though.
Supercharged, turbocharged and hybrid just sounds like a lot of expensive things to go wrong to me.
So many things to go wrong!
A comparable car to the Polestar 1? I do think I prefer the Polestar 1 simply based on look and my preference for Plug In Hybrid over Mild Hybrid.
The 63 version of this car is supposedly incredible!
Is that engine noise coming from engine itself or speakers? Kinda feels fake tbh
oh man, that additional engine sound from the speakers sounds so bad.
$100k and your seats are the same material as the Jetta next to you at the light. Nothing wrong with a Jetta, but there is something wrong with Mercedes charging six-figures for a car with fake leather seats. Also nothing wrong with fake leather seats, except when you put it in a car and ask $100k for it, lol.
Maybe I'm just an ignorant Brit but why was the speed limit 45mph on that dual carriageway? 60-70mph looks much more sensible
Some sections are slower because of traffic lights or side road traffic
please test drive the bmw x7 40i
Have you driven one of the recent T8 Volvo's? I'm quite curious what your opinion is on the (twincharged-hybrid) powertrain.
Does this have artificial sound through the speakers? Sounds a bit muted like a lot of other new cars.
@tedward , we need to know how good cooled seats are if a car has them
No cooled seats and no heated steering wheel in this one. I even used the voice command "Mercedes please turn on heated steering wheel" and she replied "Sorry this vehicle is not equipped with a heated steering wheel"
This is actually based on the E-Class and not the AMG GT coupe.
Reminder to only lease this vehicle lol
What is your opinion on this powertrain being fitted in the C63? I think it would have been a great powertrain
63 should always be a V8 end of story. Going to a 4 cylinder is blasphemy. It’s not about speed it’s the V8 sound man.
damn i timed 4.4 to 60 and you didnt use LC. pretty quick
No matter how much this car depreciates, I would never want to own one out of warranty.
I cant believe this is more expensive than the e63
How do you think it'll compare to the Audi S7?
nice
Does the hybrid system actually put any power to the wheels or does it just power the supercharger and starter?
7:35 9th to 5th
can this be considered twincharged even if the supercharger is only electric not crank-driven
Wow Mercedes Benz is just speedrunning unreliability at this point
I don’t get why this and the CLS exist at the same time.
Electric supercharger sounds redundant since it has electric instant torque
This is a sport sedan, not a supercar/sports car like the regular AMG GT
They should have put this engine in the SL and make an mag version of that with the convertible rooftop.
Love how quickly it revs.
Idk if it’s just me but the interiors on this give me the vibes of a modern Kia, there’s a lot of plasticky looking bits in there. It just feels kinda off to me
This car looks awesome but that electric supercharger smells like trouble
Did Tedward say he’s 5’9? I thought in the past he said he’s 5’10🤔
Ok you caught me. I’m 4 feet tall.
The question is, this or a Panamera 4S
LOL looks like a divorced parent 😂
If they added methanol injection they'd have a road going FW190....
