What do I think? 2s is more fun outside, would like to see 2-2.5mm bottom plate.

Hey Nick, great review as usual! I'm curious, have you had a chance to try any of the RDQ 350mah 2s batteries? Or the GNB 350's? Wish HobbyKing had some of the Nanotech's in stock, their warehouse is 15 minutes away from me, love it when I can find something to buy from them. Thanks again!
@@housinit I have tried them, I didn't think they were any or much difference than the 300mah 2s batteries both brands carry. Maybe even not as good as the 300mah depending on flight style.
You’re the best, Nick. I sincerely appreciate the work you put into these thoughtful and thorough reviews. Thank you. I was sort of interested in this little quad but the durability concerns me. I feel like I’d break it fairly quickly based on your incident crash footage. I might wait for rev 2.
I hope we see the 2inch version with 2.5mm carbon, at least bottom plate
@@NickBurnsFPV me too :)
Love that name 😆 🤣
I love your channel man in a freestyle FPV pilot. I watch a lot of FPV channels. But whenever I'm looking for an informative review i always watch your videos. I very much appreciate your videos make them when you can. I appreciate the way your videos are well thought out. Informative on all the aspects a person would need to know. Thanks again.
I appreciate the time you put into these reviews and this was EXACTLY what I was looking for (Smart 16 vs Rocket Race). I can't speak for everyone but I'd say just keep doing what you're doing, family is always first. Balancing this hobby with fatherhood is hard enough, I can't imagine producing weekly YT content on top of it.
I removed the "pig-tail" battery lead on my TinyGo/CineEye/Thinking quad and put on an Xt30, wow, significant difference in performance all around. Great vid, Nick, thank you for your work.
We watch because we respect and appreciate your opinion. This is because you actually test the quad with 'real world' abuse, heck maybe more than the customer would do. Love it, keep up the great work!
3 of the 4 stack screw heads got ripped off on the first crash for me 😂.
ack, problem realized
I can tell by the first flight alone that you enjoyed it as long as it lasted. It was a pleasure to watch.
Yea, its fun to fly, but in the end did break :(
@@NickBurnsFPV Kinda saw that one coming when you showed it on the bench. I noticed that paper thin frame, and the front arm already warped upwards. Same issue with my late 2.5" Armattan Tadpole. You gave it a heck of a first and last flight though, as did I with the Tadpole. Grand Opening, Grand Closing. 🤣
Fantastic flying and review, Nick!!! 😃
It seems like a pretty fun quad! But yeah, those screw holes must be revised by GepRC. 😬
Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
I have the phantom and I agree 100% with you that it needs to have a little more material right at the screw hole. I have broken 2 frames both of them being right at the motor holes on the front arms. I'm on my 3rd frame and decided to take some of the clear heat shrink (plastic kind and not the rubbery kind) and I covered from the motor end to about half way on the front 2 arms. I then added the foam pads to the bottom sticking it to the plastic heat shrink to make it stick a lot better. I don't know if this is any better but its working for me so far my frame has taking some hits and I was for sure it was broken but all is well still. Great videos btw and Happy New Years!!
Best micro race drone reviewer EVER!
I use the dji fpv to race around my property .
Everyone in my Neighborhood just Loovvveee me LOL
My sarcasm detector went off real loud there at the end 😁
hi nick...
a good topic for a future video could be "my top 5 of 2' quads"
i like baby nazgul and the diatone roma 2', they all look similar but i dont know wich one could have better performance over all
How did 2S 2-2.5 inch become the forgotten segment? 1102-1103 with 3-400 mah is such a nice platform.
I completely agree. Several years ago, when micro brushless quads started gaining traction we had 2s micros, but then it just all stopped and went 3s+ or 1s. There is much to explore now that our components have decreased in size and performance.
6:15 - Around the tree is wicked! ❤
yea, its fun
@@NickBurnsFPV I need to learn this!
Nice!!! I took a US65PRO (14000KV) put it on a V4 mob frame, 41mm gemfam biblades and man it is is fun whoop to fly!!!!! I prefer prop guards as I love sending these micros through stupidly small gaps haha.
All.the best nick.
My Lord Nick¡ Son you just ripped your backyard a new A HOLE on that first flight!/! My man got the skills to pay the bills. Nick Burns is a Micro Flyin' Pimp!!!
I built a 2s ripper on the Baby Naz 73mm frame. Its currently my favorite drone to fly 🤙🏻
If you want to run 2-inch props, mount the motors on the bottom and run it as a pusher. Yep, this does work. Yes, you do need to make some landing gear, but that is easier than one might think. I have used standoff columns in the past which do work and better than one might think. That said, I am working on some that are simple, light, easy to make, and easy use.
I am afraid in my experience the flight characteristics are not equal. Pushers work fine in slower flight less agile flight. They also put the props/motor/ESC at risk, maybe a landing platform would help but then we are adding weight and again the flight performance is impacted.
I was concerned about that 1.5mm bottom plate. This bird carries enough speed and weight to easily snap such a thin plate.
BTW, killer opening rip. I caught the half trippy spin and vanny roll. Very nice 👌
Omg the wind was insane here on tulsa yesterday. 40mph gusts and a really strong constant wind that was ao annoying. Great video Nick. Always a pleasure
Do you know a good replacement 1102 motors for the TKS? I haven't found any that has a base with 3 screws instead of 4. I found even the 1.5 mm shaft break too easily.
tmotor has some 1103 that might be more durable. More weight more durable but does change the flight performance some. Also betafpv has/had an 1103 11000kv, I am not certain all the 1103 motors will not kill a 5amp esc. We would need to check motor amp pull specs.
@@NickBurnsFPV Im planing to convert the rocket race to those betafpv 1103 11000KV motors along with the new 1~2S betafpv elrs AIO FC with 12A ESCs. But from my experience the 300mah turnigy nano tech lipos wont hold up to the current draw, causing bad voltage Sag. The 2S Tattu 550mah lipos weigh 30g instead of 18, but really boost the performance so much, you will be faster and fly longer. Cant feel the weight.
@@chrisbee5481 just to chime in on those Betafpv 1103 11000kv. They are the lightest 1103 motors I have found and work great with 2 inch on 2s. I've got a set on an 85pro that are still running after over a year.
Never broke 1.5 mm shaft..
But broke many 1.5 mm shafts which had a C-Clip on top
(Happymodel 1102 for example.. Can't recommend)
@@chrisbee5481 I suspect either we have the other nano tech batteries (there are three or more in this 2s 300mah category from hobbyking) or the weight and kv of the build have higher power requirements than my rocket race builds.
your flying is getting way good 👍
Great battery tip & review commentary at the end. NB’s thorough reviews are worth watching all of the way through!
Fantastic review Nick! Great recommendations to the point
2’mm bottom plate would be perfect
I've had a couple different Geprc frames break right at the screw holes, seems to be a consistent issue for them.
I've been using those batteries for years for my micro RC airplanes, they are great.
Woah hoho nick! I saw that little mini trippy spin around that tree! I fully wasn't ready for that! nice review, I was waiting for this one to come out from you!
I do it from time to time and find the faster I am flying or the faster the quad is capable, that turn becomes more challenging and often ends up a low ground burning crash :)
Very good review Nick. Looks like a fun flyer until the arm gets broke 😁. Sill would be fun, but I think for me, I will stick to my rocket freestyle build. I'm having a great deal of fun with it and getting ready to put together a 2s rocket race.
I’ve been waiting for your take on this one, good stuff.
I think I’ll pass on this. My “NB Rocket Race” build is still my favorite outdoor micro.
Just has that special sauce!
yea, if you have a 2s rocket race I don't see a compelling reason to purchase this one.
I always appreciate your honesty and thoroughness. Keep up the great work, and take as much time as you need!
I agree with your assessment of the C rating not meaning anything on maybe a 1S lipo, but it definitely makes a difference when you move up to a 2 cell or higher. When I started flying 5" quads, I bought several 1300mah 45C 4S lipo's, and later moved to a 1300mah 120C lipo, and man the difference in raw power is night and day. It basically compares to a N/A engine, vs one with a Turbo. As for the HV Lipo's, I see them as nothing more than a gimmick. The .15v extra it claims to give you is negligible.
My experience with batteries and c rating up to 4s is its all marketing. I have hac 120 c rated batteries not perform as well as 45c rated. It works for identification. Often the difference is just the quality of the battery, not the printed c rating.
We were talking about this tiny 2s idea months ago! "They done went and did it!! Haha
oh man. oh man. we recently moved to another house. backs up to a greenbelt and disc golf course. waiting to get some free porch time, this one looks perfect for the area.
does sound like an inviting place to enjoy.
Wow! Nice flying!
Thank you, I enjoy flying fpv and started fpv about 5 years ago.
Now we talking! This is amazing
I've been waiting for your review of this one. Thanks Nick!
Awesome nick !!!
Yes 2" would be great!! Darn, too bad the arm didn't hold up though.
Thanks for the video! I wanted to ask. When you say tune down PIDs when flying 450 mah, what does this mean? Turn down all the parameters under PIDs? Or just some specific? I'm quite new to all this, thanks in advance!
Its a reduction in the PID values. Normally I suggest starting with just turning down the master multiplier a notch and test again, then turn down again if the results aren't as needed. repeat as needed.
@@NickBurnsFPV Thanks Nick! I'll give it a shot
Reminds me of the geprc phantom that little guy is amazing
yes, they do stick with a similar design in their quads.
Hi Nick YEP! I have been looking at this little guy for a couple of days, and I have been thinking hard about getting it. I'm finally happy that it's a 2s quad, it looks like it is flying good for the size. I would replace the ph2 with a XT30 and just fly 2s only. That's to bad about the frame, it would be better a millimeter bigger. Thanks again for the video and information about the GEPRC smart16
Looks ok, but I think I will stick with my NanoPick for tiny open prop designs. Thanks for the review Nick.
I really enjoy all of your videos and always look forward to the next! Keep up the great work.
Awesome review and flying Nick. 🙏👍🙏👍🙏👍
Personally I dont like 1mm shaft motors. If someone brings out 1002 motors with 1.5mm shaft for 2S and gemfan makes some 2 inch bi blade props, that will be a great ~25g dry weight freestyle racer. Along with higher rated AIO FC ESCs >5A
MAN I HAVE THIS DRONE AND DUDE I BRONE THREE OF THE 1mm shaft. They sucks I bought 4 extra motors to just fix them, cause no company sells extra shells😄
@@allam.16 upgrade to 1002 motors
@@chrisbee5481 kk
@@chrisbee5481 do the 1s motors work for 2s or would they burn out
@@allam.16 there are 14000kv or 15000kv 1002 motors for 2S. Rcinpower or flywoo. Flywoo are on special
5:52 I suspect the odd choice is as you said related to the poor performance of the PH2 connector! Such a simple problem to fix with an XT15 and Hobby King missing out on an opportunity to sell batteries with connectors that work at 70C on 1S.
This frame looks a lot like the older iFlight iX2 frame. I built a little 2 inch 2-3S quad around that frame and it rocks. The iX2 frame's base plate is like 3mm thick though... so no broken arms for me yet lol
Nice vid!
Still rocking my Geprc phantom with 2.5“ avan props. Still one of the best
Yes that one is very good, they seemed to that one right. I don't hear much about it breaking.
Would love to see you reviewing bigger quads.
legendary micro ripper
What was that small drone you showed at the begging on the video? You said you built it?
A little offtopic :D ...200mah nanotech were so nice for a super light 65mm whoop, but they don't sell them anymore. CNHL ministar hv 350mah 7.6v are fine too.
I don't know if I have tried the 200mah hobbyking batteries.
Great review. IMO, that baby H or X frame is cute, but I think its a waste of carbon and weight (location of weight versus overall) to have a top plate.
Great work nick thankyou
It’s got better range than my POS Babyhawk 2! 😅
Ohh no! What's the problem with your babyhawk 2? I'm loving my analog version. Really clean video feed. No range issues for me.
@@SunriseWaterMedia range is about 70 meters then it failsafes, a good few other folk have this problem, going to start by repositioning the xfire receiver & if that doesn’t work I’ll change it for an immortal T 👍- I’m loving flying her on rate profile 2 but really didn’t like profile 1
@@bugsy742 Wow! I use FrSky and have had no problems with video or fail safes. I hope you figure yours out!

Me too 😅👍
Good tune on it (:
I am holding out to buy the Flywoo 1s baby nano :) After seeing your review of that quad I think it would be perfect for my transition from Whoops to an open prop quad. Still small but I am taking baby steps, no pun intended LOL, as I grow in my flight skill.
Sure nothing wrong with that
do you think this frame still relevant or there is better choice for freestyle 1.6 inch or 45mm frame?
You start racing yet?? Love watching u fly. Merry Christmas bud
No, no organized race event experience yet. I am not sure when that might happen, so busy and no race events within 2 hours of me. I am on a bit of an fpv island.
Thank you Nick! Your reviews are the best!
Thank you. I appreciate the kind words
Like the canopy on your RR 2. Nice and colorfull. Where did you get it.
It can be purchased from jacks3dprinting.com also comes with the rocket race frame as well as other frames I suspect
Hey Nick ... i appreciate your explanation at the end of you Video ... it sounds familiar maybe you told us that already, but i forgot ^^ anyway ... thanks a lot
but one point... about the Carbon orientation ... most of the time ... like 99% the CFK is a 0° / 90° / 0° weave... and in that case the orientation do matter...
if you have a 0°/90° CFK plate and you cut an arm at a 45° ... its very very weak... i designed and cut frames for my self a very long time... and one time i didn't pay attention how the CFK plate was oriented ... well long story short ... broke an arm in the first 2 crashes xd
so ... im done ^^ .. have a good one ;)
I don't have the knowledge to get deep in cf, during the conversations I have had with those that work with cf on the daily indicates there are huge variances and how those variances impact product performance, good and bad.
Nice review ! I learned alot, Thank You
I went ahead and picked up the frame since it is cheap. Maybe with some lighter components and some lighter motors it will fly a bit better... Got one of those jhemcu 16x16 aio that just might be calling out for this. We shall see. I feel the baby nazgul frame seems more durable, then again that's 1s so lighter by default
Maybe get an extra bottom plate and glue them together? That should solve the arm issue
Great video, Nick. I have a question about the 1s battery connectors. Are those always called PH 2.0 connectors or do some people call them JST connectors?
I don't think their official part name is ph2.0, that is what we have been calling them, and they are listed on webshops with that name. They are very likely something like jst-x2.0
I don't really like these "tiny 5" Drones.. They fly 50% like a Whoop & 50% like a 5 inch.. Real floaty...
I prefer 1S/2S 3 Inch Toothpicks 🔥 1S 3" can do wallrides.. Don't think the GepRC can do it great.. 😅
Nice shirt (and quad!)
I notice the hobby is heading towards micros 🤔 Nick I think they are trying to copy us👀😄
lol. Well they certainly have hit 5inch hard for a number of years :)
i got the drone but im having trouble connecting it with the Emax E8 transmiter
What receiver did you get on the drone? If I remember correctly the e8 might only do d8 mode
Hows this compare to the emax tinyhawk 2 freestyle? I know it is smaller but similar in the air?
Its hard for me to make an accurate comparison as I haven't flown the th 2 freestyle recently. My best estimation is they are fairly close, I would expect the agility would be more responsive on the smart 16, but the punchouts bigger on the TH.
I notice you also use the jumper tlite with erls whe I go into tools and change the power level it can just keep going up is that normal or is 1000mw the max
That is normal. But it will revert back to 250mw when we "apply" it.
This reminds me of the US65 with cameras breaking and, battery holders breaking.
Interesting. I recently gave away my US65 intact. You must be going super hard :)
Man really want one of these but 3 mins is too less for total flight time
Awesome review as usual!!!
On a separate note…how does one come by some Nick Burns stickers?
Thank you. I do include stickers in giveaway boxes, and then as requested. I don't tend to talk about the stickers much as with limited time I am slow in filling those requests :). If you would like one please send me an email with your info.
@@NickBurnsFPV what’s your email address?
How does this compare with flywoo baby nano? Which is better for which kind of pilot?
This is 2s so it will have more thrust and response. Better for more aggressive, faster flight. The baby nano is 1s, so the opposite is true.
Which size battery recommended by you? 2s or 3s? And which mah?
This isn't a 2s 3s quad, max is 2s. The largest I think we would want to use is 450mah
Hi Nick, coming back on this one... I am considering running 1102 13500kv or maybe even those rcinpower 1002 14000kv on this frame, but do you think the added weight would be bad? I was planning on using the jhemcu 16x16 aio which should save a good chunk of weight in that regard. I think those 0803 weigh almost as much as the 1002. I do wish they had 0803 with 1.5mm shafts.. Cheers!
We do have 0802 with 1.5mm shaft from happy model. Their newer grey motors. If you go 1102 I suspect we will want to stay on the lighter side of those motors. I worry the arms won’t hold up if we add to many grams out there
@@NickBurnsFPV yeah I think the 1002 would be the best bet as the lightest 1102 I have which are happymodel are almost 2 grams heavier than the 1002 for the set. Whereas 1002 are almost the same weight as the stock 0803.
@@valden Agreed, sounds like you have a good plan.
would it be possible to throw 2x 450 mAh on it ? i would be so curious on flighttime and performane
possible sure. I couldn't say what the flight time would be. It certainly would change how it flies. Keep in mind, more battery doesn't always equal and equal amount for more flight time. We have to carry the additional weight, and the additional weight and change how good the pid tune is and how the quad will fly.
@@NickBurnsFPV oh thats true didnt think about that im still a newbie bought the firefly because your video !
Hey Nick, that last few minutes would do good as a short stand alone video. Kinda like the one you did for HV vs. standard charging.
As always, love your content.
that is a good idea. I don't know if I could shrink that down to less than 1 minute.
Hi nick ! Do you think I can fly it with 720Mah gnb batteries ? Got 12 of them and don't know how to use it :/
That is a bit heavy for 40mm props. It will be a slow cruise, and feel a bit heavy with those batteries.
@@NickBurnsFPV Thanks for the answer, I Will maybe reconsider to uprgade on BT2.0 with dogcom batteries :)

🥱😥 Analog, and with that horrid Caddx Ant camera! Is there anything more 2016 vintage in image quality than the Ant outdoors? OMG! IT'S TERRIBLE! 👎🤢
your looking for digital on a 40mm propped quad?
@@NickBurnsFPV Not necessarily. Just not buying anymore analog quads. Plus, this Ant camera is awful outdoors! We had the EOS2 which I hated because it turned near black in image if pointed towards the sun. But, daytime image was OK. Now makers are using this Ant camera that is so bad all the time in daylight ... have we digressed back to 2016 image quality because this is horrible?!
Once you've gone to digital, the image quality we must endure to get this size is not tolerable anymore. The Runcam Nano 3 has such great image quality outdoors and inside, is ultra light, why is it not used? Not made anymore? I see quads still coming out using the long ago discontinued EOS2. They can't find anything better than this Ant?! Cuz, forgetting about digital for the moment, I'd never buy any quad with image quality this terrible outdoors. We've certainly gone backwards several steps! I'd rather pay more, have a few more grams weight, and have a Toothless 2 nano or baby Ratel, or another quality cam than get stuck with this junk cam! :(
I think I'd just rather have the Flywoo Firefly 1.6'' Baby Quad HD which is now available with the Caddx Nebula Pro Nano! Now there's some image quality! 120fps low latency heaven! OMG! Heavier, sure, but damn well worth it and the price too! lol Am I spoiled, YES! I just wish ALL of the still analog FPV'ers could fly with digital for a full week. Analog would instantly DIE! Especially with such awful cams being used like this! FPV'ers would load up their credit cards, take out home equity loans, have garage sales to raise money, go door to door offering lawn cutting, gutter cleaning, car washing, begging on a street corner, sell a kidney, donate too much plasma, collect bottles and cans in the park for the recycle dime, get an extra job at Uber, etc ... Just to enjoy the pure bliss of the image quality of digital FPV! LOL Me, I'm sooooo over suffering through flying this garbage. =(;^)-
Caddx Ant 🐜 IMO is really great.. Ant Lite performs a bit worse in low light..
Whilst the RunCam Nano3 is only good indoors..
Outdoor with sun, it's unusable.. An usable..
It also had a brown spot + purple hue in the left side of the image.
