EV is a downgrade not an upgrade in so many levels. I know because I owned one and I’m having love hate issues with it. Which I haven’t experienced before with my TDIs. Thinking of going back to ICEs or Hybrids.
Saw a new 2024 non-2-tone version today in the Teal colour and it looked quite well. It was also de-badged on the back. Unsure if the driver themselves used a heat-gun to remove the left and right rear chrome-plastic badges ("CH-R" and the "Toyota" word" in silver on the left rear, and the "blue motion" badge over on the right) but it defiantly further improved the rear end with all of those badges missing (simply left the central emblem). Would 100% recommend de-badging after seeing their result today.
Two tone only looks good in silver/black and white/black... But yes, I agree that this looks really better than that... Blue, green, yellow etc would look great on this single tone...

Took delivery of my C-HR GR last week, love it. I live in rural France and so far not tested it on the autoroute, my last one cruised well so expecting this one to do the same. As someone of shorter height the self adjusting drivers seat is a great addition, once you get used to it sliding back when you switch the engine off😅.
I live in Nz and have upgraded from a 2023 model to this latest model. I was already a CHR convert but I absolutely love this new model. My only beef is the lack of a rear washer/wiper. When it rains the water just runs off no problem but once the back window is dusty you need to clean it manually. It’s hard to think why they could put all the wonderful bells and whistles into this new model and leave off a rear wiper
Compared to my current CHR there’s two main things I do not like about the New CHR - 1. Pop out door handles 2. No back wiper But, other than that it’s not a bad looking motor and the addition of the Panoramic Roof is big plus if you can afford that model 😬 GREAT VID 👍
I had a 2023 CHR ordered with Toyota in Australia and waited for over a year. The sales team then called me and said that the following years model was changing to this shape .. I opted out. ( Later I bought a 2022 model with low km’s). The kicker was I was going to pay $49,000 for the 2023 model. However I had to add another $16000 to get the 2024! - No thanks. I love the softer lines on the previous models.
I know looks are subjective, but I think the last model was a better looking car. I know 2 people that have them and they seem very happy with efficiency.
I’ve seen 2 of these on the road recently and I have to say it is lovely. The styling is great. Obviously it’s not the most practical car, the rear seats are a bit cramped. But you definitely would manage a couple of kids back there no problem. I love the interior. Very nice. But yeah prices are really creeping up.
Great review. On my 23 CHR from android auto, you can get back to home screen by going to apps, select Toyota app, and you're back to home screen. The voice search button, quick press, you're in Toyota system, press and hold, you'll get Google Assistant if on android auto. Safety system saved me once already from on coming driver who turned across my lane... car emergency braked before I could.
Handy to know, confusing that that’s the way though as the look of the app just makes you think you’re home to a Toyota app and not back to the Home Screen
Wow. A review in English that uses Euro as a currency and liters per 100 km consumption. So refreshing, I don’t have to convert anything, I understand it. 😭
Great review, I was very interested as I’m picking mine up early next week, I was quite surprised at the prices Irish folk will be paying, I live in the Canary islands, I’m getting a 2.0 Limited Edition, so good spec, and it’s 35.500€ on the road!
In Ireland, even every day motoring, is considered as the height of luxury and is taxed accordingly notwithstanding that the country is mainly rural and has very poor public transport options. We have vehicle registration tax in Ireland which is an additional tax on already taxed vehicles masquerading as a registration fee. So you pay tax on tax paid. Best wishes with your new car.
@@NobbyOnCars exactly here in Greece the new model is placed 10 k more than the previous generation and I think Toyota doesn’t position its products right anymore! Toyota is a reliable partner but still misses a lot of things like fun to drive and sense of safety and premium feel
I was considering this as a next car…..but €40,000 is one big chunk of money. That’s sneaking into the territory of more prestigious cars. A few other posts have hinted at, get a more conventional car with a bit less economy but a much lower initial price tag. Must be some formula for working out where the break point is.
The issue is not so much at the price in Ireland u cant find a new decent car under 40k Euro! But 40k family car buyers would think twice! Considering the rear seat! Its just claustrophobic. Was really hoping Toyota would address that! But sadly not
With that kind of pricing it was a good idea to take off the market in Canada as they would not sell any. Seriously over priced even with the current crazy prices.
Nice balanced review. This is a great looking car, particularly the interior, which until now, has been a bit underwhelming from Toyota. However, their reliability is second to non. I’ve had a little Yaris for about 7 years but am now thinking of getting one of these.
I bought one of the last previous generation chr. Im glad that i did, because here in my country(Slovenia) there is no logic in prices for new model. For same trim level, you need to pay more but you receive less stuff. Total nonsense :/
So many complications that increase the price enormously (over 35,000 euros) - 3 engines, battery, ultra-complicated gearbox, etc., all to get a consumption of 5l/100 km in the real world, in the conditions that a 1.5 DCI engine super-simple on an antique Dacia Logan of 7,000 euros consumes 4.5 l/100km under the same conditions. This is only because Toyota is marked by a visceral hatred (of the boss) for electric cars. I kept an old Logan for a maximum of 2-3 long trips a year, for the rest (in the city and surroundings) I use an electric Dacia Spring of 8,000 euros, which consumes a maximum of 11-12 kWh/100km, i.e. less than 1.5 l gasoline/100km, so a maximum of a third of the consumption of this enormously priced Japanese Frankenstein.
Not quite accurate. I drive 95% in the city and regularily get over 80mpg (3.5l/100km) in heavy traffic. The drivetrain is complex but it's bulletproof. So much so that Toyota offers 10 years warranty in the UK.
@@mdo So, you paid about 35.000 euros more than me on my 1.5 DCI just for 1l/100km less ? And on the highway you get higher consumption. Do you call that efficiency ? I call that nonsense. If you really want efficiency in the city, I can show you my Spring comuter showing 11kWh/100km (less than 1.5l/100km) average consumption after more than 2 years.
Test drove one last week . 6ft 1 33 inch leg , son behind me same height and space genuinely OK. On your the pics the seat was further back than I would have it at my height but I don't know your height. All cars have increased in price , the pcp rental is similar to the last car as it has a higher residual. Probably buying for my wife as we got 62 mpg on the test drive nearly double the VW, Bmw and Kia automatics we also drove.
I've not tested it yet but saw it on another vidéo : - If you have the Toyota app in your iPhone, it will appear in CarPlay. - Then one press on the toyota Icon and it will switch from carplay to the embedded multimedia system. Toyota Hybrids do that for you already. As for the plug-in versions (or PHEV’s as they’re also known as), go into the battery charging menu in the vehicle and set what charging levels you want. Alternatively, you can also select this from the My Toyota App - I believe. Hybrids have a brilliant BMS which keeps the hybrid battery charge to 80% maximum and about 40% (or is it 20%?) minimum - prolonging the battery life considerably. Proof? My 2008 Prius Hybrid is still running on its original battery. Bought the car 2nd hand 11 years ago with 55k on the odometer and have done 101k mostly commuting miles in it. It still runs perfectly.
Fun fact; unlike the previous generation of C-HR that had a 1.3kWh hybrid traction NiMH battery, the new one has a 4.08kWh Lithium-Ion hybrid traction battery - that’s almost as much as the 1st Prius Plugin that had a 4.4kWh battery. Fascinating, huh?!! 😊
Sadly it is not possible to turn off the daytime running lights, even in PARK, so with the small 12v battery, charging via the motor the lights are on all the time.
Our new model which is this variant and colour will be arriving next week to replace our existing 2017 C-HR which has given us 7 great years. Can't wait!

Best economy achievable on these cars and all newer Toyota hybrids if you use Eco Model, auto air con and radar cruise control. Getting 4.5 ltr p/100km mostly from 23 chr. Warmer weather near 4ltr p/100km. Road noise for me noticeable at 120km in chr and rav4. I came from 1.6tdi Golf. Only thing I miss is sound insulation on VW. Chr drives beautifully. Boot in terms of litres is less than golf but chr boot in 23 model is wide and more practical for me than Golf. Golf has more depth, but that is sometimes wasted space. I get two more shopping bags left to right than golf.
Nobody shows under the carpet in the boot or under the bonnet in these reviews. Why? I could give a crp about the screens. Does it have any kind of a spare? What does the drive system look like?
Oh right, like 2 mins into this? ua-cam.com/video/CDtY_X3n1Sc/v-deo.htmlsi=Vj4Uavdw_jdA4q5j And I guarantee you that more people are interested in the inside of a new car than looking at a funnel for washer fluid but set up your own channel featuring under the bonnet reviews of mass production cars and come back to me when Carwow want to buy it from you!
If they’re at the age where their legs are just straight out in front due to the child seat, could be tight. To be honest, it’s more the boot I’d be checking that it’s suitable for buggies etc for you
Recently sold the 2021 koba hybrid decided that the new model is much better featured than the one i sold but in the end bought a new demo top spec Subaru Crosstrek way better value all round with that go anywhere feeling and with all the latest saftey features Toyota make great vehicles but are tending to get rather expensive plus long delivery times here in Australia Would i be tempted again ? with a CH-R definately no i was seduced by the funky styling in 21 but over time the car lost its appeal
I think the interior is a step up compared to previous model. However, the exterior especially from the back it’s a bit of a mixed bag… Also I think it’s too expensice for the size, decent spec on configurator is closer to 45k on the road price…
Toyota has really slipped in quality and reliability. I’ve known so many people when their leases end that have gone to Mazda, Subaru, sometimes Honda can’t blame them.
This is definitely my favourite colour and favourite styling. I really don't like the two tone paint that covers half of the car. I like it only when the roof is black but nothing else. This new CH-R is really stunning. I did like the exterior of the previous model, but the interior was too dated. Also the car I test drove was grossly underpowered. I think it was a 1.2 ltr. For this model, definitely a 2 ltr. I also really like the interior of this new model and I'm glad Toyota didn't go for a long curved screen. I prefer this more traditional cluster and separate screen. The price is a stretch though. I might wait a year or two and get a second-hand one. I will test drive it though. I'm in NZ and they arrive here in a few months.
Confised about the CarPlay comment, I’ve a focus and the only way back to the sync system is by clicking the ford app icon. Is that not common knowledge?
I love the adaptive cruise on my first gen CHR and use it everywhere. Yes, when you turn it on the warning message does say it should be used only on the motorway but it works fine everywhere else.
@@mdo it's a great feature but Toyota have cruise control on the stalk is awful. They should just put all the cruise control buttons on the steering wheel, not just the two they currently have there
I believe the new generation CHR is a big step up from the previous. I believe there’s more sound proofing. The top trim level of CHR doesn’t come cheap. Perhaps better value is the RAV4.
As someone who is choosing between a yaris cross and chr: The small window and cramped feeling in the back for passengers is steering me away from choosing CHR. VERY VERY VERY BAD DESIGN!!! A shame to you CHR designer! And the price is that high that you might as well go for the Rav4 or even a Corolla Cross instead. I see no points to go for the Meh middle ground CHR since they put this price. I totally can understand why people would go for a Yaris Cross due to its attractive price. CHR has really no nische.
Old version already have Toyota Safety Sense. For me, this car doesn't make sense. Small boot, huge price. This is a crossover, aka FAKE SUV. If you top up 4k you will get a RAV4. This car doesn't make any sense.
@NobbyOnCars rav4 about 4.5k more In Ieland for base model. No heated seats, no lumbar support. Rav4 base model lacking some basic seat comfort in models shipped to Ireland
They are very fuel efficient and pretty impressive performance as well. Ergonomics are good and seats very comfortable. As you say, the legroom in rear is non existent. The price is high as a new model, so maybe buy 6 months or year old used example later.
4 years of ownership of first gen C-HR and back seat room has never been a problem. The tallest guest to passenger seat and rest will sit back there just fine. At the same price range you can always go with Corolla Cross if rear space is someones need. There's no sense for Toyota to make two similar models for the same people. We are empty nesters and only seldom have anything else than a labrador in the back seat and luggage in the trunk. Just perfect for our use case.
@@timogronroos4642 The model being reviewed here is all new. I looked at and drove one and was impressed overall. It can’t be denied that regular use carrying rear seat passengers would be quite uncomfortable unless they were small children. As you say, it’s alright if you only use them occasionally.
Don't like it and to expensive, I don't want a digital dash but I spare wheel would be nice. Added to that in mainland Britain any car over £40.000 attracts a huge amount of additional road tax.
No1 the price is ridiculous. Forty two Grand for the top off range. This for basically a run about no thanks. I had the old model for two years the icon model didn't even have a Sat Nav.
Nice video! Very expensive. ugly face it’s like a Chinese cartoon…. Small rear windows. The doors don’t open a lot same problem like Yaris Yaris cross Corollas. If you don’t buy the extra panoramic roof, it has a black roof, which is very ugly. You feel like you are in a smaller car Claustrophobic. I don’t know what happened in the Toyota design center. If Toyotas don’t have the hybrid system I am sure Toyota will not sell all these cars. And the last bad thing is that the car is made in Turkey…….
New Toyota model designs, to me, look like they are being based on drawings made by 10 year old boys imagining futuristic cars. The BZ4XER672 or whatever stupid name they gave it is the same.

If they’re at the age where their legs are just straight out in front due to the child seat, could be tight. To be honest, it’s more the boot I’d be checking that it’s suitable for buggies etc for you
@@NobbyOnCars thanks for getting back to me . I have a Corolla now . Is it roughly the same size or bigger ?? Thanks again
I still think the Corolla has a better interior.
Check the passenger seat if thinking of corolla/,corolla cross, entry spec seat can lack support . Improves in higher spec models
It's very expensive and unlike our CHR Excel, the new one does not have in UK heated steering wheel!
This model headlights have unlock high beam animation? Greatings fron Lithuania😊
Lexus LBX costs less? How do they compare?
This is bigger and higher up
Toyota has really slipped in quality and reliability. I’ve known so many people when their leases end that have gone to Mazda, Subaru, sometimes Honda can’t blame them.
What's the clunk noise? I didn't understand that part.
It’s the door handles recessing once you move
It’s a great car just a little tight in the back
That will be fine for us. It's only me and the Wife most of the time. Back seats rarely get used. @@NobbyOnCars
Confised about the CarPlay comment, I’ve a focus and the only way back to the sync system is by clicking the ford app icon. Is that not common knowledge?
Not for me anyway. Also if your Focus is a current one, there’s a button to the right of the left knob and that will do the same.
@@NobbyOnCars that’s to the sound settings but I guess it does the same job fair point
@@colm112 a lot easier than swiping through screens anyway !
@@NobbyOnCars good point actually I might start using that instead 😂 god help us in the future with less and less buttons
Drove a C-HR years ago and told me i could only use cruise control on the motorway. Is it still the same with this iteration.
No and it wasn’t the case on the last model either 🤣
The only thing the old C-HR didn't do was stop at traffic lights or stop signs, it's great at following the flow of traffic though.
@@anthonytayo thats adaptive cruise control.
I love the adaptive cruise on my first gen CHR and use it everywhere. Yes, when you turn it on the warning message does say it should be used only on the motorway but it works fine everywhere else.
@@mdo it's a great feature but Toyota have cruise control on the stalk is awful. They should just put all the cruise control buttons on the steering wheel, not just the two they currently have there
Is this new model available in the U.S.?
No, Toyota is no longer selling the C-HR in the US.
Too expensive for an entry model . I would think the Mazda 3 2.0 l 186PS would be a better buy and more powerful .
Hi Nobby ,Is the A/C Loud like the Hybrid Yaris?
Wasn’t for me anyway !
I believe the new generation CHR is a big step up from the previous. I believe there’s more sound proofing. The top trim level of CHR doesn’t come cheap. Perhaps better value is the RAV4.
How do you think it stacks up against the Yaris Cross? Seems a similar size car for a more affordable price
Perfectly fine - maybe even a bit more leg room in the Corolla
As someone who is choosing between a yaris cross and chr:
The small window and cramped feeling in the back for passengers is steering me away from choosing CHR.
Interesting point on the RAV4
@NobbyOnCars rav4 about 4.5k more In Ieland for base model. No heated seats, no lumbar support. Rav4 base model lacking some basic seat comfort in models shipped to Ireland
Model Y starts at 41K
@@mamba101 doesn’t
@@NobbyOnCars€41,832 is the cash price for RWD Model Y
You say in Toyota there is a lot of rattle, does it include this model as well?
Never said that
@@NobbyOnCars at 06:29
@@Brainiaccccc I think he said " there is not a rattle out of anything ".
Why are cars so expensive in Ireland? Screwed on tax and st public transport. It’s a joke
Thanks Nobby great review . How anyone could live with that car is beyond me . Infuriating doesn’t do it justice.
Don't like it and to expensive, I don't want a digital dash but I spare wheel would be nice. Added to that in mainland Britain any car over £40.000 attracts a huge amount of additional road tax.
I actually like it but as you say very expensive and I would not pay the huge tax cost to own one so I walked away from the dealership.
Motorway driving in heavy rain and no rear wiper, you can't see what's behind....a dangerous omission by toyota not having a rear wiper....
5 cents saved by Toyota there because some politicians were arguing over 1g/km co2.
Side profile looks like previous gen. Honda Civic after a bit of sharpening.
Oh yeah. Wasn’t much of a fan of that Civic design wise.
@@NobbyOnCars neither was I but the CH-R is alright. Great review btw.
🍷🤔SMH…The reduce size of the all-new CH-R is a major issue for me.
Like the new shape but too small for rear passengers so not for me
For 40k don’t you guys have the RAV4?
Almost
Like it but I think the designer was left on his own too long. 😂
How much better is this than say the Juke Hybrid?
Better interior, better engine, better looking... And actually not much dearer
Mark, yet again another from the gut honest review. H'mmm? A 'reasonable car, ruined! Over done in every sense. Cheers.
40k for a new CHR? Wow.
Dual tone paint version I saw was over 44k
@@majorminor3367 Incredible.
Why are testers and the public so obsessed with Apple Car Play or Android Auto? These feature alone a good car doth not make.
I just can’t put my finger on this
No1 the price is ridiculous. Forty two Grand for the top off range. This for basically a run about no thanks. I had the old model for two years the icon model didn't even have a Sat Nav.
It’s 50 odd for the top of the range, 40 is the starting !
Shame it won’t sell the deposits needed in the uk are seriously high
If you like that bi tone colour get the cheaper car n get back end wrapped for few €00
Good idea actually
Toyota has dropped the ball, no longer the most reliable car maker. Only CVT policy gonna hurt them big time. Now Mazda is the new Toyota.
Too small and too expensive
could be shorter … golf sized😊
Looks like it's been designed with some left over Lego bricks
Ön yargı
New Toyota model designs, to me, look like they are being based on drawings made by 10 year old boys imagining futuristic cars. The BZ4XER672 or whatever stupid name they gave it is the same.
What is vegan leather? Like vegan sausage, burgers or mince. Amazing they want everything that looks like meat 🥩.
Can't understand a word!
Yet 64,000 others have no issue 🤦🏼

Over styled …very angular…..much like the Honda civic….personally not a fan of the looks..
