Mark Sandman,Treat Her Right, MORPHINE, collapsed on stage in Italy in 1999.a terrible loss
Yep, he went way too soon
God what an incredible band Morphine was
I knew Ty and several people who died at the station that night. Ty had made it out, then went back in realizing his Girlfriend was still in the venue. He went in to save her. A friend and off and on Roadie/guitar tech Jeff Rader had also made it out, then went back inside to save to Ty, Ty's girlfriend and a couple other people. Sadly all three were trapped and died in the fire. It proved to me what a good guy Jeff was and what a good guy Ty was. It was a fucked up thing that should have never happened, and I lost several friends forever. R.I.P and much Love and respect to Ty, Jeff and everyone lost that night. There is comfort in knowing that both Jeff and Ty were awarded in the next world surely for their heroic actions. just so, so Sad.
F'ed up, I read he went back in for his axe, but what you say makes more sense
Two of the drummers in Spinal Tap - Peter “James” Bond (1967-1977) Spontaneously combusted on stage during a jazz festival on the Isle of Lucy. Mick Shrimpton (1977-1982) Exploded onstage.
Joe “Mama” Besser also passed away. Not on stage, but backstage - he got mobbed by a bunch of overzealous Three Stooges fans and was crushed to death.
Replaced by Jo "Mama" Besser, who is currently in the "where are they now?" file.
Nick Menza and Dimebag are still alive in my cars stereo.
John, was Nick the son of Saxophonist, Don Menza? I have heard Don in concert; that's why I asked--- Theresa.
@@RaincloudmusicTFS6 yes
@@RaincloudmusicTFS6 yes he was
@@RaincloudmusicTFS6 I heard Mustaine say in an interview that Nick was the son of Don Menza 👍
On cassette?
One that might not be well known to you - Les Harvey. Les was the younger brother of Alex Harvey, and a fine guitarist in his own right. He was electrocuted on stage with the band Stone The Crows on the 3rd of May 1972.
Mike Scaccia was a beast of a guitarist. 👍✌🤘😷🤘
He was a beast on the guitar, and a cool dude to his fans.
R.I.P. Mike, you are missed.
Scaccia was a true bad ass. Such a genuine, accessible, humble dude when you were able to be around him. Huge fucking loss. At least he died doing what he loved.
Rigor Mortis, a really underrated band!!!
Was at the Rail for that final show. Watched him go down.
I remember Ty Longley's death so well because, some time earlier, an episode of the cartoon "Static Shock" aired that mirrored the tragedy. The episode featured a band performing on stage when the pyrotechnics caused the ceiling to catch fire and burn down the club with everyone trapped inside. I thought the episode was eerie in itself... but when that event ACTUALLY happened later, I was really freaked out. In the cartoon, superheroes saved all the club patrons. In the real life incident...
Colonel Bruce Hampton died on stage during his 70th birthday tribute concert with many musical peers backing him. They thought it was an act at first.
" Dot, Dot, Dot"
I was there
I didn't know some of these. May they all rest in peace. Sad losses.
I of course knew about Dimebag Darrell and Ty Longley - who didn't?? - and I knew that Nick Menza died, but I did not know that it was on stage. Damn. R.I.P. to all of these men.
Gary Thain, bass player for Uriah Heep, was electrocuted onstage at Moody Coliseum (Dallas) in 1974. My brother was right in front of him when it happened; concerts were general admission, SRO in those days
OMFG 😳 I had no idea about that!! 😳
Thain didn't die from the electrical shock, but the after effects combined with his drug use led to him being fired from Heep; he died over a year later from respiratory failure due to a heroin OD.
@@ElectricBozo : I wonder why the video doesn't mention drug use a cause of death on some.
Mark Sandman from the band Morphine also died while playing on stage.
Gary Thain of Uriah Heep didn't die onstage, but was electrocuted during a show and seriously injured. His resultant incapacitation, plus his drug habit, led to his firing from the band. He died of a heroin overdose shortly thereafter.
Mark Sandman of Morphine, died on stage in France.
And he played very unusual, altered - or homemade instruments - some pairing bass strings with one or two guitar strings. Sandman & Morphine had a sound like no other band.
Was Hoping somebody would mention this.
I actually got to see Morphine and on the Horde tour... In fact my band was the 1st band that played that day and was about 5 bands ahead of them... If I was a dork I would say I opened for him... When in truth I opened for nada surf... Who were actually relatively cool and personable dudes....
Great video & tribute, John!
Sib Hashian, drummer for Boston.
Thanks Debbie for watching. We have him on part 2.
I didn't know that he died on stage!!
Les Harvey.
That was the first person I thought if when I saw the title.
Philippé Wynne
Pantera also had 2 great albums besides the ones you mentioned -1990’s Cowboys From Hell and 1992’s Vulgar Display Of Power
Cowboys From Hell was one of my favorites....
Should do one titled “Five musicians who died in tragic accidents” in which Alex Nelson from Lizzy Borden is featured? Love your work dude.
i had a judge dread song " bring back the skins" on a comp called Oi! thats what i call music, good stuff. I think Wattie Buchan , from the Exploited collasped five times on stage.
Small correction. After being fired, Nick Menza never played with Megadeth again. He was asked to play on The System has failed but it didn't go well.
I still have flashbacks to The Station. OMG, I remember sitting and refreshing the news story as it unfolded.
This haunts many of us living in the Northeast, especially Connecticut and Massachusetts residents who had traveled to Rhode Island for the show along with local Rhode Islanders.
🙏🙏 2003 18 years ago. It's hard to believe that much time as passed already.
Fire codes were changed and upgraded after that incident. I found interviews and documentaries of that night on UA-cam. They pay respect to those that passed and interview the injured.
😪
I hope you’ll mention Lee Morgan even though he wasn’t a rocker.
I really miss my favorite living legend singers on band god bless you rest in peace ❤😢
Mark Sandman of Morphine and Treat Her Right. A great musician and songwriter. Les Harvey of the Stone the Crows. Col Bruce Hampton.
It still feels weird to go to the Alrosa knowing Dimebag died inside. I've seen lots of shows there before and after that fateful night.
Ty Went In To save More Fan Lives
Mark Sandman of Morphine !
Okay, everyone has their favorites; but HOW could you miss Johnny Guitar Watson? Boy that's a Real Mother For Ya'! He died on stage during a show in Japan 1996. His career goes back to rock's beginnings in 1950s. His success in the 70s is most easily recognized.
Bruce Hampton
As someone whose main period of following rock/r&b music predates heavy metal, the one I always think of is Jackie Wilson.
I know that one of the Yardbirds, Keith Relf, died from accidental electrocution. For years, I thought it was a household accident, but I later heard it happened onstage.
It happened in his home.
Les Harvey of Stone the Crows died onstage via accidental electrocution; though it was before performing so I don't know if that would count.
For years there was urban legend that had Relf dying in his bathtub while playing his electric guitar... But apparently there was a grounding issue in his home studio and he was at home recording what would have been and wound up being the... I believe Armageddon album.... It was some strange thing where he had a pair of headphones on and was playing his guitar and simply leaned against a metal support post...
Another was Phillipe "Soul" Wynne of the Spinners. Collapsed on stage and died next day.
is there a part two
Country Dick Montana lead singer of The Beat Farmers died of a heart attack on stage in Vancouver in 1995
What about Les Harvey from Stone the Crows?
mAYBE you could throw in Mike Smith as a lot of people now don't know about the Dave Clark 5
would like to ask if you could make a story about Bobby kimball and telling about how is doing now
Love from Mik Roy from Denmark
Menza also played on 'the system has failed' before being replaced by Shaun drover.
Nick was my favorite Megadeth drummer - not to impugn the others, but he was really fantastic.
If you don’t own Rust In Peace then you don’t like heavy metal music.
Janie Lane of Warrant. Jeff Healey.
Not Jeff Healey. He died of cancer.
They forgot Darrell Sweet drummer for Nazareth who died in New Albany indiana on stage I think from a heart attack
I didn't die but I woke up nude on the hood of my car once
Judging from your comment, you must be 13 yrs old....or, more likely, 13 is your IQ.
I wonder why the video doesn't mention drug use a cause of death on some.
Best last known live performance, Tom Petty comes to mind.
No Les Harvey? The first notorious death onstage. Also Tiny Tim.
The guy that shot Dime Bag was Drug Deranged & Thought They (DD) Stole the Song From His(shooters) Mind & He wanted revenge
Johnny Guitar Watson and Counrty Dick Montana.
One point of solace, no one knows they're dead.
I guarantee 100% the first in this video didn’t make it to heaven. In fact none of them did.
Mark Heard
Mark collapsed onstage but lingered for some time before he was taken off life support. Am I remembering it right? Tragic. I love Bruce Cockburn’s tribute to Mark, “Closer to the Light ”
Tiny Tim.
All musicians from heavy metal bands
The advice I would have given John Lennon is that it was stupid to settle there.
Tiny Tim died on stage.
I have an old guitar world magazine and dime had a monthly collumn in it....funny thing , he was known as diamond darryl back then. Its definitely dime tho
No relevant point to make really.. its just sad how he died.. rip
Wasted lives died on stage!
biggest rock and roll hall of fame snubs
David Byron (Uriah heep)
Meatloaf collasped onstage...and Marlyn Manson...
❤️
wee grasshopper keep the Brown Eye open...
Cowboys from hell wasn't big?
Gary Moore had great solo career Phil lynott was Thin Lizzy
Booth are from Belfast Ireland no fan fair about their deaths that be a story and any other Irish rockers
Mark Sandman. RIP
Terry Cath Chicago
Jon Brookes RIP
Has any musician died on stage?
Dimebag shot and killed onstage
Why would they Rest In Peace?? Are you serious? They are immersed in the devil and you think they are resting in peace???? You have to be kidding. They were yanked down to hell the second their soul left their bodies.
2:19
"Trash Metal band"
No
Never heard of any of these people
Dimebag, Scaccia, & Menza were well known in the Heavy Metal world.
Most people, at least most musicians, would know who Dimebag is
Go back to bed.
None of these guys were any good
Shut up punk...
April Wine fan eh?
Bahahaaaaaa
I depends what you mean. They were great musicians.
