Due to the lack of disposable income right now I've been rescuing mini's from my awful painting style in the early 90's, there's a marked improvement which I'm attributing to watching your channel.

6 pints of blood and a couple ounces of semen (donated at proper facilities, ya cant just go asking people on the street) would land you enough dough to get into 3d printing then you can have all the new minis to your hearts content.

Of all the mini painters I watch on UA-cam, you are probably my favourite. I really like your perspective of improving your skills, getting good looking models, but not sweating the small stuff nobody pays attention to anyway. 13 days since I painted a mini. Got a bit burnt out painting, so have been building terrain. I find it a good way to recharge when I get bored of painting minis.

This style you picked up, sharing from the last one you painted the Ninja rabbit, is really neat. Going for shades and then lightning up and adding color as you go. Keeps the model cohesive and not as much lost time picking base colors. Well done!

I took a two year break from painting due to my anxiety and fear of failure around painting mini's but I just recently started painting again last week. Watching videos like this can be helpful but I need to accept that I'm still new to the hobby and I'm obviously going to make a ton of mistakes as I learn.

all those mistakes are actually new techniques for your tool box. sounds facetious but it's true. Another tip is to paint your favourite mini's, don't wait until you're "good" enough. Just do it because you like the sculpt. Good luck with your anxiety, I know it can be paralysing.

I used to paint minis with the exact same attitude. What helped me was playing around with low stake figures. I could learn how to paint and not ruin them. The only goal was fun. When I went back to the more expensive amazingly sculpts the anxiety of messing up was gone. Learning is part of the fun but we ruin it by unrealistic expectations. Midwinter minis video where he just decide to paint up his precious space hulk figures started the process for me. Who cares if you paint them the wrong shade of red. Ha ha. It’s just for enjoyment

    • @samuelbroad11
      @samuelbroad11 Рік тому +1

@@carlstanford7607 exactly this too. Bunch 4-6 minis, maybe with some variety in the sculpts, but racing through the same or similar colour schemes can get your mojo fired up. Never underestimate an oil wash and wipe afterwards too, especially on figures you care less for.

Last painting session was one week ago. 2 small minis, both not yet finished. With your technic they should have been done so I will have to try it out.
Yours look amazing for 45 minutes!

About 4 months - had my painting space redecorated and since then I've just been building minis elsewhere...I now have about 400 minis and lots of terrain all built up and ready to prime. Going to be a fun summer...

Paint every weekend and whenever I can during the week, which is pretty rare. I’ve got about 2k worth of stormcast eternals and 4-5 warbands and kill teams in the table currently. aaannndddd another stash of Slaves to Darkness models hiding too

I started with Warhammer in 2018 and i am still working on my first army that isnt even playable yet. Over the last years i had a small momentum every now and then where i painted some minis but this never lasted for long. The same goes for my friend who is pretty much in the same state. This year we wanted to change that. So we set 1 day a week to paint on our minis together and get something done and i can say: this helped a lot. But both of us are real perfectionists which was always slowing us down immensely. Watching every video of you is such an inspirational thing to do and has helped me overcoming that barrier of unhealthy perfection in my head. Over the last months you became my favourite Warhammer UA-camr just because of this healthy mindset you spread here. I am really thankful for your content and hope you can continue to produce videos for a long time!

About 2 weeks since painted last mini. It was batch paint of 3d prints to use as chaos cultists for grimdark future firefight. Basecoat done with airbrush (top red, bottom purple), some details. Oil wash and that's it. Looks good enought with low effort (6 minis in 3 hours). They can be improved but I already like them.

So much of your advice is stuff I'd already kind of been doing because I have that kind of outlook. Feels good to be validated.

The last minis I painted (3 Canoptek Scarab Swarms) were a little over 4 weeks ago, but I did build 3 more scarab swarm bases 2 days ago. Progress!
Mainly I kinds stopped painting because I wasn't sure how 10th Ed was going to impact my army building plans, but now that the indexes have dropped it's back to paining on the regular(ish).

Due to moving halfway across the country and having a baby (11 weeks tomorrow!) its been a little over 5 months since I’ve painted anything, it’s a drag but it’s worth it.
I’m slowly getting my new space set up between bottle feeding and butt wiping.
Thanks for the quality videos peppered into what little spare time I have!

Last paint was a few weeks back, but that's because I've been slowly building and basing the next project. Finished the basing yesterday, going to prime later today. I find slap chopping relaxing, myself, but it's all about the batch size. I am a lot happier working on 6 or less things at a time.

Two months ago I finished paiting Phase One of my TwilightWarriors Eldar Army that I started painting in 1998! They're mostly Rogue Trader era minis and it felt great to get paint on them after all these years. It was about 30 models -- enough to play Xenos Rampant with them. It felt SO GOOD to get them finished. I'm eager to get back and finish the remaining 30 models who are primed and xenithal highlighted.

Nice vid Jon. It is refreshing to see a top level painter just kick back and let loose. I fret may too much over having to paint every mini the best I can and kick myself that I can't "let go" and just be happy to paint to get stuff done. Masses of zombies or whole other board games remain unpainted instead of just getting some colour on them. Last mini I painted was Wednesday and Thursday last week so 4-5 days ago. I will probably start on something else tonight

Last mini I painted was 12 hours ago. Your advice make a lot of sense, I arrived at very similar conclusions. To get things done, I paint 5-10 models in one go, then I try to do the next squad somewhat differently and that way I learn while getting things done. 3D printing has been great in reducing the angst of ruining an expensive mini; if I really fuck up beyond repair I can always print that model again.

Couple of days ago, finished a somewhat large project in an Ork Dakkajet.
For me, it's not really about how fast it goes, but if I'm excited. If I'm not excited about something, I have little interest in painting. Prior to my most recent models, I thought I was losing interest in painting and had very little motivation to do it; I had just painted a unit for an AoS tournament and so had that off my plate and didn't feel like doing anything. Then, a friend gifted me some new Bolt Action models and boy, that set me off; immediately I painted up two of them as a test scheme and from there, painted up another 20 or so, because I was just so damn excited about them.
I mostly finished them (still need basing and highlights) when I got excited about 40k again and picked-up my Dakkajet to paint. I've gradually become better at not sweating the details: letting little mistakes go, not going back to fixing them. Not going through and painting every little pack, grenade or dangly bit, because no one is going to notice (I probably won't either after I've moved on to the next project). Sure, it looks better when I do those things, but they also just stress me out and make me not want to paint and ultimately, imperfect paint on a model is better than no paint on a model.

Last mini I painted was right before I took a break to watch this video and I needed the message. Thank you! I'm working on Tanares Adventures right now and there are sooo many models and I can't spend forever on each one so these tips are great. I was also painting them with your signature colors - which I LOVE.

I've been trying to clear some of the stuff that's been halfway-done on my painting desk recently, so the last minis I finished were some oldhammer Incubi on Monday morning before work. This time of year's the only time I get enough sunlight in the mornings that I can paint under natural light in my dark apartment!

When was the last time I painted a mini? Yesterday. When was the last time I finished one? Just over a month ago. The effects of life and trying to batch paint whole armies, or at least whole units, in the name of efficiency. I think the sweet spot is to deal with any project in chunks that you can finish in a week or two. Getting things finished is a great feeling and helps to motivate you for the next thing. Trying to do too much and never finishing anything is where it all breaks down, for me at least. Awesome content as ever. Keep it coming!

Great video! I paint with a similar thought process. I get no enjoyment from painting and highlighting every bag, buckle or tiny detail. Instead I do as much as I feel like doing, a good series of washes, dry brushes and final highlights on all the main areas that draw the eye. I’ve painted nearly 300 models this year to a good standard doing that.
