    Very comprehensive. Best I’ve seen. I’ve been watching a lot of these to do my first full bellows set replacement. The only thing I think could use mention is making sure the oil line oring (tiny little thing) is in proper place as the drive is mated. If it slips out, could be a full redo or worse, no oil to your out drive and it gets ruined from too much friction and heat. Could be a multi thousand dollar issue. Worst case. Thanks for shooting this video!!!

    Putting my outdrive back on and couldn't get that last couple inches. Saw where you put the prop back on and turned it, big help. Thanks for taking the time to do this!

    Great video!! Nice to find someone online that actually knows what they’re doing and can deliver the info perfectly instead of making it up as they go along. I split my lower to do a pump after removing both pieces at the same time. I’m a bit worried I didn’t mate the two back together properly. Having issues and not shifting properly. I pulled it all again and split the lower. Going to reinstall in two pieces and see how it goes. Maybe I’m doing something wrong when I attach the lower to the upper

      You should have it in gear when you pull it, when you go to mate the two back together you will probably have to turn the prop to get the two to splines to match up, good luck, and thank you

    Great video, pulled my drive yesterday to change trim sensors and check the alignment. The yellow bushings for the trim rams were shot and feel apart. Just waiting on those and i will put it all back together. Thanks for the tips!!!

    Thanks man. I ruined a gasket because I did not know to turn the shaft past locking position, pushing at the same time. I thought I was good if I bungee corded the prop, with tension, counter clockwise, causing the shift lever to stay straight. I did not know to turn prop further to align splines. I pulled and pulled, finally, drive came out

    I did this with the lower half off so I didn't have the prop to turn the drive. It didn't line up so I blipped the starter for a have a second and it slid right on the first try.

    I can’t get my shaft to spin when I turn the propeller shaft. Does the propeller need to be on the shaft for it to spin the U-joint? If it’s locked in forward gear do I Turn the propeller to the left if I am looking at it?

    • @DesertRatFabrication
      @DesertRatFabrication  Рік тому

      Yes prop needs to be on, can’t turn just shaft by hand, I believe I turned mine to the left, but look at the video to make sure , also pretty sure you can do either direction as long as you took it off in gear, that’s the important part, in gear before disassemble

    Hello,
    I seen that you put the alignment tool in, but how would you get a stuck shaft out??
    It came off of my U-Joint and is stuck in, the shaft seems to be stuck and i cant pull it out.
    Any recommendations ? Gear releasing or anything?

      I wish i could help, but i have never hear of the shaft coming off the U-joint

    • @stephen6759
      @stephen6759 2 роки тому

      Use like a dog cable in a hangman noose to wrap the rest of the shaft above the Ujoint.. A slide hammer on the other end maybe connected to the cable with a bolt and washer. Spray Liquid Wrench on the shaft as far in as you can see. Soak it and let it sit for 24 hours with the Liquid Wrench on it. Then slide hammer away. Good luck.

    • @DesertRatFabrication

      Twanos Beyahos Thanks for watching, I used Bellows Adhesive, it is resistant to oil, grease, gasoline, and water, also put a little lube on the drive to transom seal after glueing in the outside

    Maybe someone can help - I followed this procedure when installing my outdrive but noticed my gasket flared out beside where the large o-ring is. Seems the o-ring somehow pushes the gasket

    • @219gavin
      @219gavin 3 роки тому +1

      The water passage o-ring needs to be glued in with bellows adhesive or weatherstrip adhesive. The face of the water passage on the drive should be clean, and coated with grease so the o-ring doesn't shift during installation. If the o-ring is displaced, you will see water coming out of the transom shift cable on top of the engine when the engine is running.

    • @DesertRatFabrication

      You will have to manually put it in gear, dont forget to turn the prop when you go to slide it in, this lets the splines line up

But when I turn it clockwise to try to line up the splines, the prop just spins while the shaft doesn't. The shaft will only barely move if I try to force the locked prop counter clockwise. My gear tab is facing forward so I know I am in drive. Any advice?

      @@DesertRatFabrication Nice Video. You can also you 3M Black Super Weatherstrip and Gasket Adhesive which can be found online or auto parts store. It was recommended to me by a certified Mercruiser shop in my area. The shop has over four decades of experience. I used it for my shift cable boot, but is that same thing if not better than Merc bellow adhesive. Side note: The key with the shift cable boot was to sand the inside of the boot since it is impregnated with a poison to deter muskrats and I've had zero issued with it pulling away.
