This is so encouraging to see. And your voice is so calming as you prepare each meal. During difficult times such as our current situation in the world, God always shows us blessings and assurance in ways we normally wouldn’t think we would find it. Thank you so much for sharing! Peace and blessings unto you! 😊🙏🏽💪🏽✌🏽
Thanks so much, Pamela, for watching and taking the time to comment! We appreciate it! Many thanks for such kind words! We're all in this together and the sharing of ideas will help us all get thru these challenging times!
Thank you so much for watching and trying the menu out! We use it quite often especially when we are working hard on our budget!!! Hope you have a wonderful weekend!!! Many thanks!
Very nice variety of meals! I just want to add a tip I was taught by a Mexican woman, which is to never add salt to dry beans when you are cooking them. It will keep the beans hard. Add salt after they are cooked.
Thanks so much for watching! Appreciate it!! I've heard that as well! Luckily, I've made these beans the same way for 20+ years & never have had a problem! Thank goodness!
I'm glad I came across your channel!! Not only are you sweet and kind, your subscribers are too. 👍😊 I've watched several of these cooking channels for the dollar store and I'm shocked at the callousness and cruelty of the comments of those holier than thou types who criticize using Dollar store food. ☹️ I'd like to see them go through tough times and struggle and live off $250 a month for food that's both nutritional and filling. And btw that was up from the previous allotment which was $192 a month. I'm surprised people are so darn mean. But happy to find that the whole world isn't like that. Thank you for the awesome ideas!!
Hello hello!! Thank you so so much for watching!! We are still in the process of moving, but I try to jump online when I can! Sorry for the delay in responding back to ya! We can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel and FINALLY hope to be back in the saddle in August!!! Many thanks for sharing and for spending time with us!! We truly are all in this together and hope that kindess prevails!!!!!
This video should be a required viewing by every high school student....practical living instead of the fast food high cost mentality I see all the time...thanks for the video...
Thank you so much for watching! Really appreciate it! My kids are certainly versed in the art of making do with what you have and making what you have STRETCH! Home Econ NEEDS to be brought back into school! Kids need to know how the budget, how to balance a check book, how to cook etc etc....I'm with you -- kids needs the knowledge to survive!!!!
A lot of students don't have access to proper kitchen facilities (stove/oven; refrigerator/freezer) or the cookware/bakeware or utensils or appliances you really need in order to cook and bake properly or store batch-cooked meals. That mini-muffin tin is going to run you $10-$15 unless you have the good fortune of finding one for less at a thrift shop, but you wouldn't be able to use it if you live in an apartment with a tiny oven or just a toaster oven. I have an 'apartment-sized' oven and a 15-inch baking pan like that one would just barely fit. When I moved into this apartment I had to get rid of all my commercial full-sheet baking pans because they were too big for the oven.
@@Olive_O_Sudden Yes, you would be challenged, and I wasn't thinking so much about baking as just preparing meals in the kitchen instead of the overpriced, full of chemicals, unhealthy meals at McDonalds, etc... I just checked Amazon and an electric single burner hot plate is $16.99 so with taxes probably less than $20... something you can use for years whereas about 3 trips to McDonalds would probably be $20... The last time I was in a McDonalds was about 4 years ago and the purpose was to talk to someone there... I bought a breakfast meal and couldn't believe how much I paid for something I could prepare at home for about $1... everyone can choose as they please and everyone's priorities are different... thanks for the reply...
@@stitchergary Most university dorm rooms restrict the use of appliances other than coffee makers and sometimes permit rice cookers. Hot plates and toaster ovens are fire hazards. It isn't just that people have varying priorities--they have varying circumstances and resources that circumscribe what they realistically can and can't do, and we should consider that when giving them advice about anything. Most students who are food-insecure are also incredibly busy with both school and work, so cooking tends to come last on their list. This is also the case for many people who work long hours and multiple jobs. It's cheap and easy to get enough calories from widely-available fast food and highly processed foods, whereas eating fresh, healthy food is expensive and frequently inaccessible and requires the time, energy, and the kitchen facilities and equipment to prepare. Even these Dollar Tree budget meal challenges are full of sodium and low in micro nutrients. I agree that cooking and meal-planning should be taught in schools, and it is in many well-funded schools. The U.S. could do a lot more to prepare children and young adults for success if they stopped funding public education through property taxes, which guarantees less funding for schools in lower-income neighbourhoods.
@@Olive_O_Sudden Hi Olive -- I believe her point was about be resourceful and not running to the drive-thru everyday. Thankfully, there are millions and millions of recipes out in the world that can be adapted to just about anyone's cooking situation -- whether it be tiny living, dorm living, senior living etc etc. You just have to do the best you can with what you have :-) And that's exactly the point of these challenges :-)
Thank you for sharing this budget friendly recipe. Budgeting better with my groceries has been on my mind with the rising prices. This kind of video is very helpful for me and I am sure many other people right now. I try to budget best I can but I know I can always learn. I make cooking videos too so you know I’m making lots of food so every penny I can save on groceries counts. I hope that we can continue to learn from each other. Never stop learning and growing!
I'm so glad that you put what you bought for your grocery list! I also liked how you have to use half & then the other half for the next week on some items. I'll definitely be a watcher for your videos!
Many thanks for watching!! Appreciate it! I hope to have new videos up soon. Unfortunately, the personal life has some challenges right now, but we're working to get back online soon! :-)
Holy 🐄! This is by far the best Dollar Tree budget meal video I have seen! We need to get you some more subscribers, because you are clearly a pro. Just found this video by accident. Hope everyone likes and subscribes to support your channel! Comments also help! When I don't have anything great to comment, sometimes I just comment with appropriate emojis to help said channel.
Thanks so so much for the kind words! We appreciate you spending time with us and taking the time to comment!!! We just keep plugging away at the channel. Had some challenges arise, but I think we're just about finished getting everything back under control so we can start making new challenge videos!! I have so many ideas & can't wait to get back to Dollar Tree for some shopping!!
My version of potato soup from $tree is 1 box of chicken broth, 2 pouches pepper gravy, I can potatoes, 1pack of frozen mixed veggies. Takes 20 mins. I make 1 box or pouch of corn bread. Great for a cold day when you don't want to hang in kitchen after work.
Well that sounds TAAAAAAAASTY, Janice! I so love this community -- always sharing such great recipes and ideas!! Thank you so much for sharing!!!! We are truly all in this together & together will can thrive!!! Hope you have a wonderful December!!!!
I have been watching these budget meal videos for a while and hands down yours are the best. Ingredients are cleaned before use and you understand that seasoning other than salt and pepper is a must. I really enjoyed this video and meal ideas. Definitely 2 thumbs up.
Finally I actually someone making real meals buy using stuff from the dollar store . I like to see other people like me using items making different meals from the dollar store that you can live on budget but still make good meals.
Thank you so much for watching & commenting! Appreciate it! As the price of food continues to rise, we rely on DT food more and more! I have so many menus I want to video -- as soon as we're finished with selling & moving, we'll have more videos coming!!
Oh I absolutely know what you mean! I love getting meal inspiration from videos, books, etc -- anything that can help us get out of a cooking rut!!! Thanks so much for spending time with us! Appreciate it!
I’m impressed with your Spanish rice!! We use canned tomato sauce to ‘cheat’ but my mom makes it with fresh tomatoes. I also like browsing my rice with fresh onion and a clove of garlic!
Thanks so much for watching!! Appreciate it! Sounds yummy!! If DT had those available, trust me, I'd be there with ya on fresh!!!! These challenges certainly show the limitations a lot folks have for meals....goodness me! I can't wait to do the Walmart Challenges.....we'll have a lot more flexibility for some fresh ingredients!!!!
Thank you so much for the kind words! Appreciate you spending time with us!! I've taken a break from UA-cam to deal with taxes, but I'm just about finished with a new menu, so a new video is coming very very soon!
Hi Donna! Thank you so much for spending time with us & for commenting! Appreciate the feedback! :-) It's a menu we certainly use often around here!! Hope you have the best day possible!
We have it all the time -- it's a great way to use up bits and pieces left over from the week! It's really easy to change up the flavor profile with the spices you like to use! Hope you give it a try! Many thanks for watching!!!!
Thanks so much! 😊 Appreciate you spending time with us!! The good thing is that DT is adding new items all the time. Today, we found golden quinoa, unsweetened almond milk, and sweet chili sauce! I'm excited to get these into a video!
@@angelairenesbudgetlife7574 Can the mini muffins be frozen after baking and then reheated in the microwave or on the countertop? There is only one of me here and can't eat all of those at one sitting, lol.
@@jillsmith633 Hi Jill! Make sure you wrap them up really good so they don't dry out, but absolutely they can be frozen. But once you start eating them, it's difficult to stop!

Many thanks, Lauren! Appreciate you being here & thank you for the kind words!! These challenges can certainly be done with whatever grocery store you have access to & probably for a little less cash too!!! Most of these recipes can be done a little less expensively with our local Walmart, but since the challenge is geared towards the folks who only have access to DT.I stuck to the DT food only. But let me tell you, I think I want to recreate some of these recipes with Walmart food and see what the price difference will be!!!
I am always interested in seeing how inexpensive I can feed my family. All of these are great ideas. When I use canned veggies in a soup,I don't drain the cans, I use the liquid from the canned veggies as part of my liquid in my soup just to give it a richer flavor. enjoyed your video!
I do, too, and continuously add it to a large freezer container (aka margarine tub). Not sauerkraut though. Pea liquid is too strong but save it for pea soup. Save beet juice for chocolate cakes, cookies or pancakes. .
Even as a kid, I could never understand "draining" the vegetables-just to add water. If you (they) sit for months in their own liquid why would you pour it off just to heat them???
I would so be doing that too! Crossing my fingers that DT starts to bring in some fresh food!! the 99cent Store does, so I am hoping DT will one day too!! Thanks so so much for watching! Appreciate it!
--- Great video! I'm 72-yr YOUNG solo lady van-dwelling nomad & budgeting meals & saving money is necessary these days. I LOVE Love love Dollar Tree [and Groc Outlet] cuz they offer stuff in smaller quantites, which store better in my pantry tote. One of the few things I buy big is Roos Chocolate cereal...best sweet snack west of Mississippi! Anyway, I plan for 2-3 servings that can be saved for following days. I'm going into my 3rd year on the road come Sept & I'm wanting to budget meals better. Really love your presentation & planning. My boyfriend and I have spent so much time at the dollar tree, food lion and Aldi great food for great prices! I was little embarrassed, but it's there for everyone!
Hi Arista! ABSOLUTELY!!! Head held high and get those good deals!!! No shame in getting the most for your money!!!! Many thanks for watching today!! Appreciate it!
I wanted to add for 40.cents you can buy a can of Great Value tomatoes with green chilies, equivalent to Ro*Tel brand, or a larger can of GV tomatoes and green peppers for around 60-70 cents. The dollar tree is awesome for so much that you can't find elsewhere for the price but there are some items that are less expensive at Walmart, I have both stores next to each other where I live which makes it easier.
Thanks for sharing! And you can best believe that when I do just a budget challenge, I will be including items from both stores since we do have a Walmart and a Dollar Tree in our rural town. For this challenge, I did stick to the DT perimeters, but if you have access to Walmart or Aldi, several of these recipes can be made even more affordably!! How cool is that? We can do this -- save money, share recipes & ideas, and stick to a budget!!! We're all in this together!!!
I remember reading somewhere that a lady who regularly sorted her beans because she always bought both just saved the wonky looking beans and when she had enough she would make bean bag toys for her children. That way she was not wasting food
I loved this, great recipes and ideals, just wanted to say when making Mexican rice I use the salsa in it but I know you're budgeting these meals. This is amazing and a wonderful resource for people who have to make it on a budget.
New subscriber here! I love watching DT meal Ideas. But OMG,,, Let me just say you are the first to be so creative & think outside the box. I personally have never done a DT meal but after watching your video, I'm definitely gonna try some of these recipes. Thanks for sharing. Loved this video!😊❤

It's really all about getting in the kitchen and making something you'll enjoy while saying "NO" to fast food! :-) Hope you have a wonderful week! Many thanks again! :-)
We have done chicken Parm with the cheap chicken patties. I've done it but it doesn't taste as awesome as when my husband does it. And the leftover chicken Parm patties made yummy sandwiches 🤤. Another budget favorite was egg noodles with ground beef, salsa and beans. It would make a huge pot that we'd eat on for a few days.
Hi Candace! Many thanks for watching & sharing! We used to make a dish similar to that when we were first married and had zero budget!! Inexpensive and filling!! Hadn't thought of it in years!! Thanks so much for sharing!!! We can all use new ideas!!!!!

Hi Clay. Unfortunately, food prices are crazy expensive all over the world. We have that too here in the US, but we are beyond fortunate enough to still have stores like the Dollar Tree around - at least for now! They are even going to introduce higher priced items. Thanks so much for checking out the video!
Impressive! Before even stepping foot in our Dollar Tree I surf the internet for applicable manufacturer's coupons either printable or from Sunday inserts. DT accepts up to 4 coupons per item per transaction, unless that policy has changed along with the new $1.25 pricing.
I really loved these meal ideas! They are actually unique! I was expecting just rice and beans 🤣 I loved the chicken parm idea. Super creative! Subscribed :)

Thank you so much for watching & subbing! Appreciate you spending time with us!! Hope things are going well in Australia!!! We've always wanted to visit!!!
Ask your meat counter attendant if you can purchase a hambone for your beans, some of the time they will give you bones. Also some stores sell ham hocks and putting one of those in with the beans is what my dad did when we were little. We grew up really poor and we ate beans a lot because they were inexpensive and filling. We also ate lots of potatoes that we grew ourselves as well as cabbage. When you don’t have money to heat your house or eat da to day you learn to appreciate any food you get, two things that were horrible besides growing up scared were being cold all winter and always being hungry. I’m so very grateful I didn’t repeat this for my own children and they have never had to know true hunger or fear.
Just a little hint for your pie and maybe you won't get the dry crumbs. Melt a little margarine and mix the breadcrumbs with that before you pat it into the bottom of your pan. I love your recipes. They are different than others I've seen. I am fortunate not to have to food shop in Dollar Tree, but when I shop there for other stuff I carefully look at the food aisles and plan in my head what I would make. You never know what could happen to change your circumstances.
I love the nutritous meals youve made. I'm in Australia but I really love these ideas and gives me good ideas for our dollar store equivlant- Not Quite Right
Thanks so much for watching! Unfortunately, I've had to take a step back from UA-cam due to tax season, but I'm almost done video-ing our next installment! So please come back and see us again! What are you favorite types of meal to prepare?
Hi Chris! I am so glad to hear that! We're all trying to make the most of what we have these days! Hope you have a wonderful rest of the week! Many thanks for spending time with us!!
I just came across this, I love it! New subscriber 😁 Also, the evap milk is 60:40, so you could conceivably get double out of it, useful if your Dollar Tree doesn't have a refrigerated section.
It is also less expensive in Walmart, there are a few items you can buy for less there, the canned cream, Great Value brand, is about 79 cents a can 62 cents if you buy a 4 pack, same with canned tomatoes and vegetables, they fall under a dollar, I am lucky enough to have a Walmart and Dollar Tree next to each other.
@@mjc42701 If you have an Aldi or a Walmart, you can certainly save money on this menu. I stayed true to the challenge of using only Dollar Tree food, but if you have the ability to shop around, your budget will thank you! :-)
Hi. I just saw your channel, and it's so nice, plus your soothing voice,; just adorable. I am single and live alone, so I should be able to do the same that you do here easily. It's a family fav here! And since it's so easy to switch up ingredients, it's also a great way to use up all the bits & pieces leftover from previous meals!!
You can skimp with butter flavored non stick if you must use the minimum... An that light spritz will still have flavor. For me when I was moving out an wanted alot of spice choices that first 3 wks but only had enough for basic food a couple of plates bowls.. already had a pot an strainer an cooking utensils mixing bowl.. but I really thought I'm going to be stuck on salt pepper an garlic powder.. well back then I found a trail camping mixed spice container was four dollars for 8 spices. Now there was only so much of each but shoot it lasted me months anyway... I still got salt an pepper too... An more garlic.. but I ended up with a variety right away. They had several versions out...
Sounds like you found a fantastic deal!! And OMGosh, spices can certainly make a good dish GREAT!! :-) Thanks so so much for sharing & watching! We appreciate it! :-)
I don't like bologna or Velveeta, but love cheese, my husband loved Velveeta. Growing up we had to eat balogna, we are what we had. I would have to put a lot of ketchup and mayo on it to hide the flavor, or fry it. Pretty clever stretching that food. I am not that picky either. Pancake bites look good and going to try them. I buy Gossner milk buy the dozen, both 2% and whole for emergency storage. I stock up on food. Especially now.I drink it all the time. I don't have to worry about wasting milk because I don't drink a lot of milk anymore. I order it online. It is very good milk. Surprised DT even had it and they could come up with milk to store on a shelf. I have a couple buckets of powdered milk, couldn't drink it unless really desperate. Good for cooking. It is only for emergency stores. Pancake bites tomorrow, with out the meat. Wish I had these recipes when I was young and very broke. Will Make emergency food last longer, which will be needed soon I believe. Scrumptious
Thanks so much for watching. Glad you found something you'd like to try :-) And I was very surprised too about the Gossner Milk! Ours has it all the time & it's a great place to pick up whole milk for recipes since we normally drink 2%. You just never know what you'll find when you head to DT! Hope you are having a safe and happy week!!
New subie here. Your intro is the best one on UA-cam that I have seen. I love it! Love the graphics and the colors reminds me of my child hood for some reason. The pot you made the split pea soup in can you please flip it over and tell me the name of it the size and who makes it. When we moved I tossed mine in the rush and confusion that moving out of state can do and I miss it terribly. We bought it in the 90's at a goodwill. I've tried to replace it through the years but nothing will do. Again, great into and content. Thanks for the video🍲

You should always use real butter instead of margarine. Margarine is one molecule away from being plastic! If you don't believe me, take a stick of margarine and a stick of butter and lay them side by side on the ground and see which one the bugs won't even touch! If the bugs won't even eat it, neither should we....
Hi Travis! thanks for the message. Unfortunately, DT does not carry actual butter. I try to use oil when I can and suggest using butter if you have it. The challenge is to use ingredients that are all found at DT, and I try to be as true to the challenge as possible. I completely agree with you.

A lil tip for the rice. You don't need to brown the rice. Is better if you don't fried the rice as you can tell a good part of the rice is still raw. You can tell those very white grains that means is hard. I tell you because I know rice I cook different types of almost everyday

Thank you so much for spending time with us today! I subbed back to ya
Split Peas cook really well in the crockpot. If you pop them in the morning with everything. By dinner, it’s perfect!
YUM!! Absolutely love split peas!!!!
Thank you so much, Tamisha! Appreciate the kind words

Amazing food from Dollar Tree foods
Many thanks! I've had to take some time off due to dealing with taxes, but we have a new menu coming up soon!! Hope you have a good week!!
Delicious looking meals. Thank you for the soothing presentation. Your voice is calming and reassuring. New sub as of today. 🙂

Great stuff. I loved the pancake idea and you did a lot with the few things available at the Dollar Tree stores.
Thanks so much! 😊 Appreciate you spending time with us!! The good thing is that DT is adding new items all the time. Today, we found golden quinoa, unsweetened almond milk, and sweet chili sauce! I'm excited to get these into a video!

Just found your channel and I'm loving it!! I don't usually buy groceries at the dollar tree, but you've given me great ideas for inexpensive meals!
@@angelairenesbudgetlife7574 a price comparison video would be really fun!! I'm a budgeting nerd and love videos like that ;)

I am always interested in seeing how inexpensive I can feed my family. All of these are great ideas. When I use canned veggies in a soup,I don't drain the cans, I use the liquid from the canned veggies as part of my liquid in my soup just to give it a richer flavor. enjoyed your video!
Hi Laurie! Many thanks for watching! Appreciate it! Great tip - thanks for sharing
During the winter, I cut up a potato into bite sized pieces and add it for an extra hearty meal.
I would so be doing that too! Crossing my fingers that DT starts to bring in some fresh food!! the 99cent Store does, so I am hoping DT will one day too!! Thanks so so much for watching! Appreciate it!

Why do u think u r better ?

Hugs to you, Missy Mayes! and great idea on the hambone!

Thanks so much for watching! Appreciate it!
Succotash rice with corn and either kidney beans or lima beans would be my substitute for the broccoli.
That sounds mighty tasty, Mark!!!! Many thanks for watching and commenting!! Appreciate it!!
OMG, How I got here was watching a guy randomly cutting somebodies overgrown lawn. This was a thumnail and I said why not. Thoroughly enjoyed this, amazing meals. LOL, YT algorithms.

@@angelairenesbudgetlife7574 I mean I watch food shows and fishing, yaking, rivers and professional food eaters. So I am glad I signed up for your channel You would not believe what YT recommend's on my channel, I am so random.

@@md-ln4fp Not "so random" --- OPEN MINDED!!!! Better to have an open mind and be into lots of things than on a narrow path....life is meant to be explored!!!!! :-) So many cool, interesting, quirky etc etc things out there in life -- great to explore them all!!!
I am glad I found this video thank you so much

Hi Charlene! We love it too! Between containers, crafts, party supplies, cards, and food, we spend quite a little bit there!!
Thanks for your videos thanks 💘god bless you and your family 👪🙏😊☺❤
Thank you so much for watching!!! Doing these challenges with Dollar Tree really restrict what we can make, but we'll be doing some with Walmart too!!! Less money and more choices! I am very excited to give it a go!!

Amazing!!!
Many thanks, Brooke! These challenges are really eye-opening, but I know we can keep making tasty food from DT!
In a pinch....better than starving
HI Michele! Exactly!! These types of menus are certainly to get you through emergency situations but no always the healthiest choices since the selection at DT is extremely limited. I'm also going to be taking the Walmart challenge, so we'll end up with WAY more options there!! :-) Thanks so much for watching! We appreciate it
