Morals of the characters:
Snow White: Work hard, trust other people, face the day with optimism, and everything will work out fine.
Cinderella: Help others and accept help from others, find what works for you and learn to make the best of things even when you're presented with limits.
Sleeping Beauty/Briar Rose/Aurora: No matter how grim things look, find something good around you even if it's a song, face the world with your head high and you'll find your happiness in the end.
Ariel: Sometimes something good requires sacrifice, but it's your choice whether to make that sacrifice or not.
Belle: Look within both yourself and others, and you just may find something wonderful.
Jasmine: No matter how bad things are, remember there's a whole world of possibilities out there.
Pocahontas: Go where life takes you, and trust that everything will end up for the best.
Mulan: You decide what your story is and when it begins, and when you make that decision, you'll find your true place in this world.
Tiana: Work for your happy ending, no matter how long it takes or how many mistakes you make, and if anyone or anything tries to take it away from you, don't let them.
Rapunzel: All it takes is a little self-confidence and a little faith in other people, and you're already on your way.
Merida: Whether you need help from someone else or you need to clean up your own mess, it's your choice, and you're the only one who can make that decision.
Anna: No matter how many times you fall down, you can always get up.
Elsa: Have confidence in yourself and your abilities, let go of your self doubt, and you'll be amazed by what you can do.
Moana: Set your dreams free, and find out on your own how far they'll take you.
Wendy Darling (if we ever see her): Never forget the joy of your childhood but try to find the joy of growing up (because she never tried to grow up too quickly or tried to stop growing up, she was able to enjoy it and was also able to keep her memories of Peter Pan - at least, that's how I read it)
Dorothy Gale (I know she doesn't count as a Disney girl but I really liked 'The Will Of Oz.'): 'Remember the importance of home as well as the importance of other places
Alice: Never underestimate how many doors curiosity and belief can open
Raya's options - can't decide which one would be best : a) Caution is valuable but so is trust; b) Scars can only hurt you as much as you let them; or c) Consider the values and responsibility of being one person, of being a part of a community, or of being part of an entire world, because each must be considered and none is more important that the other
Someone else thought up these two though:
Esmeralda: Be kind, but never stop fighting for justice and those unable to fight for themselves
Megara: Don't let your past control your future and open yourself up to what life may bring you.
I love that you react to the Pattycake Production videos. They are sooooo good!! And often hilarious.
If you love Merida, then you'll love the other videos of Princess Academy, because they really show what makes her the most relatable of the princesses.
I love your discussions about these videos. Just keep in mind that Disney was the one who added the Happily Ever After. The original fairy tales were much darker. (Geoff Castellucci does a reading of The Little Mermaid - the one where she died in the end. Probably too long for your channel, but he has other - very dark - recitations on his channel.)
It amazing to me that Tony studies the originals and Park versions, then sews most of the costuming for these videos. (He’s working on one now for later in the year that will easily be their most expensive costume to date. Silk gauze and Swarovski crystals don’t come cheap!)
But on top of everything else, I think their real genius is picking just the right, most talented actors for each role. Some actors are so good they can ad lib and stay in character even when not on camera. If you had continued to the end you would have see an example of that that wasn’t scripted. They tell us that when Captain Hook is on set he never breaks character the entire day.
And some are so talented they do multiple roles. You may not believe me, but look in the credits. Anna Ricks who is Aurora here was also Elvira in Bump In The Night. And look for her as a villain in later Villains Lair episodes. (I won’t say which one, since they keep adding villains. Just keep checking.). And she was one of the live action villains in last fall’s Villains video. Unless you look at the credits, you probably won’t see any resemblance between her characters.
I'd still say that becoming a successful enough author to get a live interview about one of your new books would've counted as a happy ending, and yet he still seems to be complaining. I mean you don't like those stories, fine, but at least the woman he meets at the end had a sense of humour about it and didn't take herself so seriously
It's a visual play from Wreck It Ralph 2 (princess scene; i.e Ted is dressed similarly to Princess Penelope).
We've actually never seen Wreck It Ralph 2. But it is on the list of movies to watch.
