North and South Korea are essential for China's security needs. More so than Taiwan. This is because, unlike Taiwan, the Korean peninsula is very close to China's center of gravity: Beijing. This makes Korean peninsula essential to protect China's security needs. In particular, in this video we will analyse 2 main factors: Korea's role as the main invasion route towards China and Beijing; and secondly, its hidden role as the first link of the first island chain.

Great UA-cam video, but I found the background music was way too loud and distracting. I would strongly suggest you get rid of it altogether. I firmly believe that background music is distracting, annoying, and unnecessary (especially for educational or opinionated videos with lots of talking). I also believe that people want to hear you speak/get information/hear your opinions and not hear generic background music that doesn't really add anything useful and that people have to mentally filter out. Plus it will be one less thing you will have to do when making videos. Thank you.

Liked and subscribed! Especially appreciate the detailed, properly coloured topographic maps--essential for geopolitics in my view. They were detailed enough to also see important waterways and infer watersheds. Good stuff!
In short, Taiwan has economical significance to China while Korean Peninsula has security significance.
Taiwan also has a security important. They form part of island chain which keeps them confined to shores. If China wants to become a blue water navy, they have to break this chain and get hold on Taiwan. Other options being Japanese islands and Philippines are way to risky for them to think about.
I'd say Taiwan has more political relevance, since China consider it as its own province, and Korea as you mentioned, is more relevant for China's security.

If the US/NATO had tried to take and control NK China would have committed more forces, this was a true red line. The first Korean country 'Joseon' was settled in 2000 BC, and it started spreading out from current Chinese Manchuria land to current North Korean land. Most Korean-based tribes started its civilization from Manchuria to Korean peninsula, and most chinese-based tribes started from Southern Chinese area. There were few big invasions from Chinese to take over Manchuria from 'Goguryeo Dynasty' when Chinese had 'Sui dynasty', 'Dang Dynasty', but all attempts failed and Korean kept Manchuria land until 676 AD (They lost all Northern land after Unified Shilla because Shilla allied with Dang Dynasty to take over two other Korean kingdoms ,Goguryeo and Bakjae, and they promised to give northern land if it succeeds). Manchuria was not only for Korea, but there were many non-chinese Manchurian tribes who got forced to become Chinese now. Ironically, Chinese last 'Qing Dynasty' is not actually Chinese but Manchurian tribe. (China got taken over by Manchurian, but they are embarrassed to admit it, so they just say Manchurian is also Chinese lol). Chinese had been taken over and ruled by many non-chinese tribes for a long time. Even Won dynasty was also ruled by Genghis Khan and his sons for few hundreds years when Korea kept its own dynasty and government that time. Those typical chinese traditional stuffs like Chi pao is not Chinese but Manchurian tribe culture.
So the main point is, China already forced to merge Southern Mongolia, Tibet, Hong Kong, and Uighur which all are insisting that they are NOT chinese and they have their own identity.. If China is keep bullshitting with the original stuff, Manchuria is originally and historically Korean land, so we have a right to merge that land as Korean territory with Chinese logic. Stop being dirty in the world politics and just be calm. Please have a lesson through 'British trade war', 'Japanese Manchuria War' and all ancient wars with Korea and Vietnam that we eventually beat you guys up. Chinese have no War DNA, you guys are not warriors, especially 'han' tribe is incompetent. Guys, China will eventually bring a huge trouble in the world politics, and they are the cancer of this world. We need to either destruct or restrain this cancer-like country.

Most foreign invaders that conquered or tried to conquer mainland China first invaded the Korean peninsula in advance to secure the invasion route: the Khitans, the Jin dynasty, the Mongols, the Toyotomi regime of Japan, the Qing dynasty, and the Empire of Japan. The Chinese often call the Korean peninsula a “dagger” pointed at mainland China from a geopolitical perspective. That is why China intervened in the Korean War and saved North Korea while it was barely recovering from the severe damages of the Chinese Civil War.

Not only against U.S. influence over the peninsula but also against Japanese or Manchu influence, Chinese dynasties always tried to intervene in Korea as a preventive measure.

Caspian report has massively dropped in credibility recently. He keeps talking about Russian justification of the invasion as a geopolitically rational explanation, as if any country or even whole of nato would wage an offensive war against a huge country with nuclear weapons

For China, preserving North Korea is for self-defense, while controlling Taiwan is for gaining the ability to launch offense.
I would argue both is for defense. Taiwan also acts as a launching point for naval attacks.

Not to mention being an island in such proximity to the mainland, their viral shipping lanes would be completely blocked in such an event. Taiwan's most important strategic value is it limits China's free access to deep water. Which limits China's ability. To project power. It's not great as a launch pad to invade China. Actually China's geography makes an invasion pretty difficult from any direction, with the only exception being through Korea.

Taiwan does have challenging geographical features on its eastern coast with steep underwater terrain, where the sea depth quickly increases to 1,000 meters within 10 kilometers of the shoreline and even deeper at tens of kilometers offshore, making it suitable for submarines. In contrast, the Korean Peninsula provides relatively easier access to the Chinese mainland and Mongolia due to its flat terrain and proximity.

Great video with apparently a lot of research details. But I kind of doubt the conclusion. For China, Taiwan is still more important than Korea Peninsula. Its geopolitical weight has been exaggerated. and actually way more vulnerable than it looks like. If another war comes, I don't think China will pick Korea first to land her military.
Compared to the Taiwanese military, the S.Korean military's strength is threatening to China. The South Korean military has supersonic cruise missiles using Russian technology and high-weight warhead ballistic missiles, putting the entire eastern coast of China within range.
The difference would be because Taiwan is literally the Republic of China - remnants of the last government of the Mainland, the only part of the Chinese realm that it hasn't taken back. South Korea, on the other hand, is not Chinese. If a war was to happen, that would be North Korea's business to take back its own territory and deal with its own people, much like the Vietnam War. China may intervene to stop a Korean unification favourable to the US, but China isn't ever going to take over Korean land.

You listed the Korean War as a war against China, but the war was started when North Korean troops trained by China & supplied by the USSR attacked South Korea.
Maybe he means that when the UN forces crossed the 38 parallel from the Chinese perspective it was an attack on them. That's why they risked a lot to get involved in the Korean War by going into battle with a nuclear armed state who only 5 years before leveled 2 Japanese cities while China just came out of a civil war and was a very poor country
North Korea won a 1v1 against the South despite the US equipment there. North Vietnam reunified its country and for that it's loved as a strong ally instead of being embargoed.
