it's 2023 and all is ok, tunnel is functioning well, there is still work happening on the waterfront but it looks great and it is peaceful. these comments reminded me of how divided everyone was over this project. Nobody even talks about it anymore, the city moves on
Without downtown exits it will still increase surface street congestion. Why not use those millions of dollars to extend the light rail and give us the caliber of public transportation expected of a world class city.
I'll miss the "ba-thunka-thunk, ba-thunka-thunk, ba-thunka-thunk, ba-thunka-thunk BEEEEP, BEEEEP, ERRRRRRRGHHH (this is supposed to be tires squealing from hitting the brakes...Yes, cars now have anti-lock brakes. Just go with it, OK?) , ba-thunka-thunk, ba-thunka-thunk, ba-thunka-thunk, ba-thunka-thunk, ba-thunka-thunk, ba-thunka-thunk. While walking along the waterfront. This will be replaced with the sounds of "Hey, you got any change? Hows 'bout a smoke?" There will be no ignoring them with the deafening sound gone.
I recently moved to Seattle in 2018 from Los Angeles. I walked downtown along the waterfront last week and could not believe how noisy and ugly the soon to be demolished freeway is. I don't understand why anybody would not want a tunnel, despite the cost. Where else can a new elevated freeway go except through the city? You can't get anything nice without money. Of course, in generalization, many of these people who did not want the tunnel live in old, un-maintained houses and drive 20 year old vehicles. That is their lifestyle and they don't want to spend on anything. Unfortunately, that mentality (although perfectly acceptable) makes is awfully hard for governments to build nice things. In other countries, like Japan and China, people trust and respect the government to build new things for the cause. They realize that just because they don't want their money spent on such projects, doesn't mean they are not for the betterment of society. Our self-centered 'not my money not in my backyard' conservative mentality is killing our local governments' efforts to provide a quality and lasting community to enjoy for years to come, and is causing our infrastructure to become outdated.
LOL. You been here a few months and are speaking on the financial status of folks who dont want the tunnel but been here their whole life. That is a trip! You said... generalization.
The reason we live in run down houses and drive 20 year old cars is because property taxes and the cost of living has gone up. My California neighbor bragged how they paid cash for their house and had money left over with the move to Washington. Meanwhile my property taxes are ridiculously high for this dump. So don't throw your LA attitude around because as far as I'm concerned you are part of the problem.
There was a call for the "Elliot Bay Bridge" instead of a tunnel. It would have been built quicker, had more lanes and cost a 6th of what the tunnel cost.
Wait... there is NO connection to Mercer? How the hell do you get from 99 to I-5? Maybe the DOT engineers should be the first against the wall when the revolution comes.
place your bets seattlites! How many times do you think this will come to vote, and how many times (if it begins) will construction be halted because of errors or strikes (like Tacoma's Ramp construction)?
I really like this preview. Maybe 50% of this is going to actually happen. There hasn't been that few cars in Seattle during the day since the first half of the 20th century. I agree, choke down to two lanes is a proven fail. Think about it...fix it...
COOL TUNNEL BUT NOT A GOOD TO DESTROY THE VIADUCT....BUILD A HIGH LINE IN SEATTLE JUST LIKE THE ONE IN NYC.... STOP THE DEMOLITION OF THE VIADUCT... YOU CAN MAKE A PARK ON THE TOP AND IN THE MIDDLE CAN BE SOMETHING UNIQUE AND THE PARK CAN STILL BE MADE... ONE OF SEATTLE'S WORST MISTAKE IF YOU DEMOLISH IT.
There is a historic Pepsi billboard in that location. Its a landmark. or at least it was, at the time this video was made. its gone now because, progress? I was actually amused by the Nissan 280Z and how the animation made it wiggle every now and then to try to keep the graphics aligned because it looked like the back end losing traction. It didn't inspire brand confidence tbh.
It looks like a comment by a migrant from Russia. They like to come to Russian construction forums and write there, that all of Russian infrastructure projects are only for corruption :)
It's amazing how much work goes into before a project is completed. The simulations they perform seem to me to be a wonderful tool.
It is a great way to show how such a project would look finished, as it shows its infrastructure as well as its functionality.
you forgot the simulation toll booth.
Excellent Job on this animation
Well, this all looks like fun. I look forward to when it's finished in 2138.

I do like that we're going to have street signs that float in mid-air.
northshire99 and your
I know it’s so cool!
Do I have to pay tolls since I just watched this?
I'm sure there will be some tents erected on the right in that grassy knoll as you're headed northbound once the tunnel is opened..
They are already there.

So this is what the intro to Almost Live will look like in 2030.
GTA 6 CONFIRMED. SO HYPE!

@@hedunlap really. Never saw that. To where? Magnolia?
I would like to know what civil engineering and 3d add on software was used to create this. Any ideas?? Thanks in advance.
Autodesk Infraworks
This game looks cool! I wanna play it! :D
i'm from Vancouver BC, and i wish downtown Van had something like this.
Wait... there is NO connection to Mercer? How the hell do you get from 99 to I-5? Maybe the DOT engineers should be the first against the wall when the revolution comes.
There will be an exit near the end of SR-99 and then travel some city roads to get to I-5
love it

what software did you use to made this 3d model?

The Viaduct has more lanes in each direction. How is this tunnel an improvement?
in which software i can develop this animation
