Hi Ben. If you unplug the antenna you can tell if the interference is coming from the antenna or power supply . If it's the neighbour's tell them the issue you have and try to get them to turn items off. If it's a pesky power adapter then offer to buy them a new one.. its better to be friends with the neighbour's . Hope you resolve your issue regards pete

I'm having the same symptoms as you are,, and it is frustraring. I took a old transistor hand held walkie talkie around the house. Those old radios will find your EMI. If you have an old transistor radio go walk over to your neighbors lights,, or just probe around outside... you'll hear it! I'm going to start with ferrites on my RG-58U outside coax first.. then work my way inside. Man im glad I found your video before I went broke buying ferrites. You will find it... as I will too! 73's brother. X-Caliber (160) Michigan. 🤘

The ferrites need to be closer to the rig. The PSU should be Linear rather than Switching.

have you looked for the source of the QRM ? often it's the telephone landline or the powersupply of a tablet computer or alike.

Switching power supplies causes static noise specially on AM from what I've heard with other HAMs, those type of power supplies is okey on 2 meters or 70 cm FM, and it's also used for LED lights. The other comment down below maybe right on using tinfoil hat or add more grounding to your station.

Well luckily my PSU seems to be a good one; they can indeed cause issues but mine is alright, I know this because if I run the radio from a battery there is no change. There is also no change if I switch my mains off at the breaker and put the CB on a battery. (That’s how I know the noise isn’t coming from my home) 😉😄

@@RSPYT I have done the same testing in my home. And still have the very same static (EMI) you have. I'm convinced it's my Antron 99 that's picking it up from the neighbors! I'm going to ferrite the hell out of my RG-58U coax outside my house... I hope it works. 73's X-CALIBER (160) Michigan. 👍

  • @DonauweIIe

usualy its the telephone landine that brings the QRM into the house, in that case its helpful to put snap-on ferrites on the telephone landline where the landline enters the house before the lines distribute the QRM everywhere in the house. it should be at least like between 5 and 10 snap on ferrites on 1 cable. powersupply for internet routers, tablet computers, cellphones and smartphones make QRM too, their lines need snap-on ferrites too. the cable for cable internet or DSL, put on snap on ferrites and look whether the QRM is gone, if not, then that cable was not the source of the QRM, take the ferrites and try on the next cable. a handheld cb radio can be a help to pile up the QRM source, if the QRM gets very strong, remove the antenna and try further. in this day and age there is usualy multiple QRM sources as there are alot more electronic devices, that needs a more attention to recognize a change in the QRM in the cb-radio when there are a snap-on ferrites attached on a cable, to then go and look for more QRM sources.

Great video! How frustrating man. I get loads of random QRM round my way in Surrey. I haven't got a homebase setup as I haven't got the room, or the correct building, but driving round mobile, it is amazing how many hotspots of utter crap you can drive through. Sometimes it takes a couple of blocks worth of houses and roads before it starts to fade away... 😒 I hope you get to the absolute source of the issue 💯 %
Maybe ask your neighbours if they could kindly turn the lights off at the breaker as an experiment? But, if you do find it is their lights, I'm not sure what you would do about it! 😆🙈 Good luck man 🍻

Your neighbors are growing weed. Those lights they use will do that, they have very bad bleed off. Do what I did, I asked them to use better lights or shield the ones they use. If they wont even help. Call the electric company and tell them as soon as your neighbors electric was turned on you can hear jack out of your radio. They will know what to do.😎

Your Lincoln and the President HR2510 are the same. There are three issues with these older radios: Electrolytic capacitors dry up (the usual symptom is slow boot of the screen), the brown "Sony Bond" glue eats away at the components leads and pc board traces and the screen LCD screen starts to darken. You did state the noise started with new neighbors, but, you may want to have the radio checked out. Cheers.

    Could'a, Should'a, Would 'a !
The first thing you should have done, is to turn off the electrical power to each circuit, one at a time in your own home !
Obviously to see if the noise is being generated in your own home !
As many modern appliances generate electrical noises !
    Especially items from China !
Television sets, Touch Lamps, Wall warts, Switching Power supplies, Keurig coffee makers, etc. !
Are all known to make horrible amounts of noise !
Some, like switching power supplies may even move around frequency to frequency !
If you're lucky enough to find the noise in your own home, you simply begin by unplugging things until you find the item, or items generating the noise !
This all may sound simplistic, but the shot gun approach you're using in this video, I doubt will yield much in the way of success !
Hope someone finds this helpful ?
Looking for noise outside your home, is a whole other matter !
    👍😉

Put your radio straight to a car battery then switch the power off to your house in the main fuse box. Turn it all off and wait a couple of minuets because some capacitors hold charge even when switched off so wait a couple mins then check your radio. If you still have interference then it's coming down your antenna in which case get a good earth onto your antenna if you haven't already. Try that buddy.

  • @martentoonder5415
    @martentoonder5415 7 місяців тому

Hi Ben, just watched your video. I do not know if you are still on air and if you have solved your interference problem.
As a tip, I would start to search where this interference is coming from. You have two possibilities; from your power supply or from your antenna.
To find out which one is the source of your problem, it is a simple step. Switch on your radio and remove the antenna connector. Should the signal meter go practically to 0, you have an interference coming from the antenna. If the signal remain strong, may drop down slightly, it is a power supply problem.
Now-a-days the interference from LED lighting is getting worse with the cheap chinese products on the market. They emit strong wide banded signals that disturbs two way communication systems. These signals are picked up over the antenna and to go to a neighbour and asking him to switch off his light, is not a light way to go. To filter these signals is an expensive measure and no garantee that it works in giving you your full reception back. Such filters can cause the reception sensitivity to drop so that only strong signals are available.
Looking forward to gettting a reply,

Hi Ben. How about trying to disconnect all and use only one radio just to see if that gets any better. If it gets better than the problem might be in your shed. I'd do it like that first. Then start organizing your cables, they all touching, all on top of eachother. I know, that shouldn't be a problem but you never know. A noice filter could do, but if it really is the neighbs then that wouldn't do any good either. The other option is an RPG louncher. You can always put the blame on Russia, at this point anybody would believe you for sure 😂🤣Anyways Ben i hope you get it sorted, it's annoying i know. Keep em comming. 73- sector 5
