    "For what reason the pelican wants the game?"
    One thing that many reactors miss while watching this film is that the board game is not only magical, it's kind of alive. And, while it's bound to give you a chance to solve the current problem, it's also bent into making increasingly hard to finish the game (it seems the game only has to provide you with a general chance to find a solution to the general problem, but has no limitation on making the situation as deadly as possible).
    Sure, Sarah could have tried to get Allan out... god knows what surprises the game had in store for her (alone), if she had kept rolling. Out of that slim chance to the player, the game's goals seems to be clear: to make as difficult as possible finishing it (and vanishing all its magic consequences).
    Also that's how the game will not stay hidden underwater: the game not only has magic protection, it kind of has a mind on its own.

    • @ChrissaTodd
      @ChrissaTodd 3 місяці тому +7

      also it can turn itself into a video game

    • @MidnightHowling
      @MidnightHowling 3 місяці тому +1

      I mean, could Sarah have rolled again? I'm thinking about the fact that Peter, Judy and Allan couldn't since it was her turn, so it needs 4 players, no?

    • @Coco-oy5sm
      @Coco-oy5sm 3 місяці тому +5

      Semi mostly unrelated, there's also a theory that the game is not actually dangerous. You either can't die, or if you do, you just start over. The game isn't really about getting your piece to the center first, it's about the adrenaline and excitement of a "near-death" experience. Kinda like a haunted house. I doubt it was the intention, but I think I prefer that interpretation regardless. If the game was malicious, why would it undo all the damage and return you to when/where you started after you win? Why not just be like "welp good for you, you lost 30 years of your life and your house is trashed. Congrats"

    • @DocuzanQuitomos
      @DocuzanQuitomos 3 місяці тому +4

      @@MidnightHowling Back when Allan was taken by the game, it seems she could; because there were only to pieces on the board. It's never clarified in the film if the game expects always 4 players or it allows some more to be added still in the first stages of the game.
      That's why when Peter and Judy find the game, their pieces get added to the board (they were in the box, but they were not active yet).

    • @DocuzanQuitomos
      @DocuzanQuitomos 3 місяці тому +2

      @@Coco-oy5sm It is possible; and it still would play within the rules of "making it as difficult as possible to win". Objectively: the box never says you won't die as a consequence of the game.
      That leaves the option of risking it all or not up to you... of you really want to face the risl or not (like Sarah did, she left the house and the game never, ever paused the game; for what the box says and a regular user knows, you can't disappear the things the game does unless you win... no matter how.mich time it takes). Whatever magic was used to create it... they went to quite some lengths to up the excitement.
      And that could count as some for of sentience to get to that point: to make it as exciting as possible... even not letting you know you may not die (it will hurt... a lot, though XD).

    8:08 Fun fact, the mosquito in the amber in Jurassic Park was literally the ONE type of mosquito they couldn't have gotten blood from. That was an elephant mosquito, they only eat *other mosquitoes.* There are thousands of kinds of mosquitos and about a hundred bite humans. The rest are weirdly specialized. Some fun facts on the movie:
    • Robin Williams was beloved by Keene, New Hampshire townsfolk during filming. He was even presented with the keys to the city by Keene's mayor in 1994. After his death in 2014, Keene residents crafted a makeshift memorial of flowers and candles below the Parrish Shoes sign, and even organized a public screening of the film. The Parrish Shoes sign is still on display in Keene, New Hampshire.
    • According to author Chris Van Allsburg, the word "jumanji" is Zulu for "many effects," which alludes to "the exciting consequences of the game" as mentioned in the film.
    • Robin Williams admitted that he did not need to act startled for the scene where Van Pelt is shooting at him, as the blank gunfire was extremely loud on set.
    • Though the movie's plot differs greatly from that of the book on which it is based, the ending of the film is very similar. In the book, the two children who find the game at the end are named Walter and Danny, the main characters from Zathura: A Space Adventure (2005). However, the Zathura movie is a stand-alone film, divorced from the Jumanji cinematic universe.

      I like Zathura. It's more of a spiritual sequel than an actual sequel but it's way better than jumanjis actual sequels. Nothing beats the original tho.

    It took me a while until I understood a few things about the game:
    About who hears the drums. It's not just kids that can hear them and I only noticed it after watching the movie several times:
    "Jumanji: a game for those who seek to find a way to leave their world behind."
    That's what all the kids wanted for different reasons. Allen wanted to go away, Sarah wanted to be there for him, Judy and Peter because they lost their parents. They might not have realized it, but they wanted to leave their world behind. That's exactly what the game gave them and also taught them that maybe their world isn't so bad.
    Why did the pelican take the game? Because the game hinders and helps the players. It creates obstacles to overcome, but also helps them by keeping outside interference that would stop them playing away. That's for example why the monkeys drove the police car, so that Carl follow and they could keep on playing.
