- Finally taking apart the Switch Pro Controller. I've been hearing there is a secret message inside, maybe we should find out for ourselves. The Pro Controller is a great device and I recommend it completely for anyone using the Switch.

@@ragnaroksangel Did you buy it used or online? Or someone else used it other than you? Maybe that's why. Maybe you took your switch and controller somewhere that people either own dogs or had them over/people over who owned dogs. These are the only explanations.

The Pro controller is amazing, waaaay better than the wiiu pro controller. Very pleased, glad I bought one.
An important note: the screws on the Switch Pro controller aren't Philips heads, they're JIS. While they look similar enough, the dimensions are just off enough to where a Philips head screwdriver can potentially strip the screw. I just learned this the hard way.
That explains it. Any idea on the product to buy?

I highly recommend this controller, having already played many hours of Zelda with it. It's the most comfortable controller I've ever used, similar to the 360 one that toped my list before.
It is a 3DS battery it even has the 3DS battery reference on it. CTR-003. Every other Switch peripherals and parts have a reference starting with "HAC-"

This controller has two large Taptic Engines and an infrared CMOS... No wonder it is so expensive. I am pretty sure Microsoft knew about the existence of this technology which was already being used by Apple. But they probably didn't incorporate it on their controllers because of it's current production cost... Way higher than simple rumble engines..

Decided to give opening my controller a go since I'm fed up with the left analog not working properly and and watching this truly was a major help on opening it. The main struggle was legit finding the right tools so I can unscrew those things and that took a while. There was some stuff around it and gave it a clean and works as if it is brand new, no drifting downwards when I want to move up so I can finally play games again because my joycons are broken for the mean time. Really appreciate this, saved me money because I just wanted to play my Switch and coughing up a good amount of money that I can use for something else was a huge save. Thanks dude.
As someone who recently had the thumbstick of their pro controller snap off, this is actually helpful in knowing swapping them out will be rather easy. Thank you. I know I’ll definitely be keeping this handy for when the time comes to actually get the repairs done.
I've got the Pro Controller and I used it a little bit but I've mostly been playing Zelda in handheld mode as I test out the battery in everyday usage. To me, this system really feels like a high end handheld console and it's been wonderful in that respect.

I've done 20 hours on Zelda and I don't notice the pro controller, as in it's perfectly comfortable and it allows me to just play..

I like how the battery is completely seperate from the rest of the insides of the controller. Seems like they could have just used a plastic cover that clips into place for the battery if they wanted to, like with the XBone of Steam controller
Do you think it would be possible to change the casing on the controller semi easily and without damaging it? My controller got really scuffed from being present in a car accident but still works great.
Do you have any 360 controller thumbsticks to compare to? Would like to know if I could add metal ones. They certainly look identical

For the next switch in 3-4 years i would like to see 50/60 hrs battery life, analogue triggers with an extra pair of digital shoulder buttons, and maybe an *option* somehow to have either the full 360 circle analogue stick or the octagon format like on game cube. If they did that i swear i would never buy another controller in my life. The switch "elite" lol
I have been playing Zelda with the pro controller and I love it! The JoyCons are also perfectly fine. Sideways JoyCons work fine too (tested on snipperclips).
What internet adapter you guys use with the switch mines doesn't work preferably with a USB 3.0?

how were you able to get the front part off to get inside the controller? I'm afraid it'll snap apart if i try to pull it off. i've gotten the grip parts loose but am unable to pull off the back.

Just curious to those who have a Switch: How do games look in Handheld mode? I know the resolution is reduced, but does it still look great? I only ask this because mine's coming in a couple of days and I just want a confirmation.

AshXXMayftw from my gameplay experience, it still looked amazing. The only issue I had was during BotW during cut scenes, frame rate dropped pretty drastically.

After a night with some friends and heavy drinking, my only pro controller got a cider shower and, albeit all the buttons work correctly, the Y button is very very sticky.
It never concerned me, but after the sales, i am now playing Dragon Ball FihterZ and it doesn't work without the weak attack.
But every screw driver i tried was either to big to get grip on the screws, or too small to get grip.
I’m trying really hard to get the cover off(the bit with the buttons that lays over the sticks) . Any tips?
I know this product is old but did you make a video on the battery replacement on the 5th gen Ipod nano? I use mine everyday and the battery sucks on it.
Watched this video when it first came out and just now watched it again after searching for an issue with my pro controller not turning on. Turns out all I had to do was take out the battery and put it back in. Of course I also gave it a good cleaning while apart. 3 years of use made it a little grimy. 🙃

That dual PCB design is fairly unusual. That's really neat, and would explain the relative heft of the device. Interestingly enough, the Wii U Pro controller also uses the exact same CTR-003 battery.

So the screws holding the handles on are so tight they broke my screwdriver.... any advice?
Im trying to get the front plate off but it just wont, i got the grips and the adhesive separated but it still wont pop off. Tips anyone?
im having a real hard time getting the scews out - like the scew heads dont have enough deepness for the driver to go into and everytime i try turning it the driver just pops out and refits itself into the next slot without turning the screw =/

I want thank you I found your video because I needed to clean my controller mainly the stick because of the sticks starting to drift your video was very helpful ( they had dust and small fibers all around both stick using canned air and some needle nosed tweezers cleared the problem right up)

So all current console use the same stick. You said xbox thumbstick look like, dualshock4 stick look like and pro controller has they. So does that all first party contoller thumbstick are interchangeble.

I use my pro controller a lot, but when I want to play with my arms dangling by my side then I switch it up with the joycons separated. The joycons feel way better when it's not attached to anything.
It wasn't so much the camera resolution that prevented us from reading it. Rather, it was the seizure you were having trying to hold the controller to the camera. I hope you've gotten those under control :P

Do you think the motion gyro in the pro controller could feasible have been worked into the joy con? I hear this controller is way better than the joy cons for gyro and it kinda pisses me off that the bundled controller is so obviously inferior for gameplay.

Making sure there were no surprises waiting for me when I take mine apart. My kid played using mine and needless to say kids have sticky hands issues and my buttons now have a sticking issue they need cleaning.

Late on this, just got a pro controller yesterday, I only needed to figure out how to adjust one of the handles.
You didn't show the buttons, i was hoping to see how they are made see if it's possible to rotate the set of button 1/4 turn to the right so that the button match an xbox controller.
I honestly prefer the Wii U's controller in terms of comfort and ergonomics, but this controller is pretty good. Feels similar to X1's controller.
