He, and later Chris Evans, enjoyed being their characters.( Remember when Evans help that actress at the Academy Awards? Social Media screamed that Captain America is now real). That is why we cried when Tony Stark passed and while Steve Rogers danced with Peggy Carter as Endgame faded to black. RDJ and Chris Evans let us into their world. Thank you for the epic ride. And forever, regardless of location or time: AVENGERS ASSEMBLY!
It kind of makes sense when you think about it: Tony's only emotional bond (Pepper) is cloistered in a high security compound and he has the resources to keep a small army of bodyguards around her. He also isn't fighting domestic organized crime, which means he doesn't have to worry about the snakes in the grass when he goes to the store. He doesn't hide his superhero identity because he doesn't *need* to.
he has the resources to keep a full army around him. He would only need a few because he can invest bodyguards that can take out the most advanced armies on the planet aka about 300 Iron Man suits could do that.

Despite his prototypes always breaking because Tony doesn't exercise restraint in a y form of the word when it comes to pushing the suits limits, what he mass produces is technically sound with many of the problems and flaws designed right out. That’s a good point. Spider-Man needs to hide his identity because he is a street level superhero. Iron Man’s enemies are usually enemies of the country, so if they get pissed, they won’t target him. They’ll target someone like the President.

In the first "Armor Wars" story where Tony wanted to retire and Iron Man "died" in battle, he realized he had to come back to stop a new villain. So when he showed up in a new armor the guy said "Yeesh, Stark hired another idiot to be his bodyguard?"
The best part of the entire bodyguard alibi is that Iron Man claims that he always is able to carry Stark to a safe location prior to appearing, which is why no one seems to question why they’re never seen together on the same scene, and why villains always wonder why Iron Man is always conveniently there when they want to target Stark or his company
Tony Stark in 2008: "If I were Iron Man, I'd have this girlfriend who knew my true identity, she'd be a wreck. She'd always be worrying that I was gonna die yet sort of proud of the man I've become. She'd be wildly conflicted, which would only make her more crazy about me." Pepper Potts 2023: "Tony, look at me. We're going to be ok. You can rest now."
This scene actually helped me with something minor. I was flipping through a magazine and there was a vocabulary multiple choice quiz, and one of the words was “alloy.” I remembered how Tony said “gold-titanium alloy” and correctly guessed the option of “a compound of two or more metals”
This is the reason why I got into the mcu as a kid, having people knowing your identity was a surprisingly very refreshing twist. I remember being so sick of the whole Hiding identity cliche of superhero movies.
it really depends on the hero. for an icon of fear like batman, his identity would mean the end of his war on crime. spider-man has an entire 3 hr movie on why his identity should be kept a secret. and as for superman, his identity being revealed would mean the end of his human life as a reporter, a life which he loves
Christine: I never said you were a Superhero. Tony: You didn't?.. well good 'cause that would be outlandish and uh, fantastic. I LOVE RDJ'S DELIVERY OF THIS LINE. speaks so much about tony's perspective about being iron man.

Reunites with estranged mothers (who, by the way, wear nearly identical dragon lady outfits), who have been living in isolation alongside uber-dragons for the last 20 years. Oh and Eret and Black Manta are highly capable, but unimportant, side-antagonists who have little connection to the movies' plots, aside from being disposable tools for the main villains. The order of the plot points are different, as are the family backgrounds, and of course Stoic's fate is vastly different than Aquaman's dad, but they are essentially the same story.

@@Nuclearburrit0 No. No you didn't. Many risky decisions were made to get the MCU to this point. You can't just pretend the comics were some sort of prediction for these movies. This series set a standard for superhero and action movies by trying to familiarize audiences with more obscure parts of Marvel like Doctor Strange. Imagine if Iron Man 2 immediately jumped the gun and introduced Thanos and the infinity stones. There would have been no room to ease this into the universe. The avengers didn't even exist at this point. Spider-Man 3 is a perfect example of trying to shoehorn comic book characters without any proper planning.
I love that line. And I also love how Coulson says "Just call us SHIELD." as he walks out. Honestly, I love both Marvel and DC, but in a competition between SHIELD, and it's DC counterparts, ARGUS and the DEO, I go SHIELD every time.
Iron Man 1 was so good, I remember going to watch it with my friends, I was in 7th grade at the time, we had no idea what to expect, the movie was absolutely amazing, Robert Downey Jr. was born to play Tony Stark, the post credits scene with Nick Fury talking about the Avengers initiative blew me away! now to look back at this movie, and what it started feels surreal man! The beginning of the MCU 👏👏👏👏
What makes this so damn amazing that RDJ ab-libed the I am Iron Man line as he just feels so good in that Tony Stark character that it turned out he knew what his character would do better than anyone else. Just wonderful.
I dunno, I walked out of the cinema after watching this going "holy shit, they are setting up so much in this movie". Anyone that stuck around to watch the post-credits scene who had any idea about the comics walked out thinking "Marvel clearly wants to make a huge franchise here", the mention of the Avengers initiative and SHIELD confirmed that Marvel wasn't making a one shot movie before anything else was announced. I couldn't have imagined how big it would become, but it was clear what they wanted to do from just this movie.
@@NATIK001 That is true but at the time they were going very slow. Those seeds were planted with the intention of doing this but if the movie didn't go over well it just would have been a humble one off film with references for the fans
Just finished rewatching this again. Iron Man 2008 will always be my favorite movie ever and the best for me because this movie comes with all the memories of my childhood. I was just a kid back then, life was simple, and I watched this with my childhood crush which just makes watching the movie more awesome. The impact this had on me was extraordinary. Tony Stark in 2008: "If I were Iron Man, I'd have this girlfriend who knew my true identity, she'd be a wreck. She'd always be worrying that I was gonna die yet sort of proud of the man I've become. She'd be wildly conflicted, which would only make her more crazy about me."

I remember this in theaters. A mainstream superhero without a sEcReT iDeNtItY was unheard of. This line was literally revolutionary.
The Fantastic Four just did it in two movies.
it really depends on the hero. for an icon of fear like batman, his identity would mean the end of his war on crime. spider-man has an entire 3 hr movie on why his identity should be kept a secret. and as for superman, his identity being revealed would mean the end of his human life as a reporter, a life which he loves
and it was literally rdj's idea, he improvised the line

@@Stormyy6310 Child of two worlds. Lost mother as infant. Madman, who shares a unique connection with MC (dragon trainer vs royal half-brother) uses coercion and intimidation to build an army to overthrow the world. Competent love interest, both viewed as royalty (even if Astrid isn't, technically) hold the MC's hands through the whole movie, guiding their actions.

John O people who read the comics
