  • In this Video we have decided to dip our toes in at Van life to see what it is |Like just going out and finding a park up without organising anything. we managed to get 2 park ups , the first at a seaside town called Troon in Ayrshire right on the beach and the views where spectacular, we then attended the Filipino Barrio fiesta , which was amazing and then finished the Night with another Park up in the Beautiful Viking town of Largs.
We learn a lot about our Van and what changes we need to make to make our van life that little bit easier for when we try to really start more time doing Van life . but i think we can say we had a great time.

Agreed . We are new to this stealth wild camping . We found the parking on park 4 night. Was not expecting to have that many vans there. And it was all kind of last minute. But agreed i dont think this is stealth camping. But it defo felt like it to us we are used do going to festivals or campsites. But bare with us we will be doing this again soon . And will doing this properly this time. On the positive have found some changes i need to make to the van to make it more vanlife , stealth / wild camp friendly.

What is stealth camping please, also thought wild camping was for tents only in Scotland ??

    • @TheTravelingHutchisons

@@junehall2177 hey so stealth camping is when you park up somewhere in your van , in a car park or side of the road , lay by etc and sleep in your van without anyone knowing. What we did isa sort of stealth camp as we parked up in a car park and slept there . But unfortunatly looks like the spot we picked was well known as there where many other vans / motorhomes there also. So we are going to do it again maybe in a supermarket car park or o a street somewhere. Wild camping is similar to the tent but instead you do it in a van . So find a park up somewhere in the wild somewhere such as a forest or by a lake or beach and park up without any amenities such as electric hookup / toilets etc so pretty much off grid.. thats my understanding anyway. 🙂

@@junehall2177 if you are parking somewhere that has no restrictions or signs stating no overnight parking then should be fine. www.lippertcomponents.eu/blog/stealth-camping-beginners-guide/
This is a great article i just read about it. That can maybe help answer any questions you might have . Park 4 night is a great app also you can download for free aswell that can tell you all the free park up areas in your area or where you are planning to go tgat other people have used previously with reviews on the the park ups also. I used this app for both my park ups in the video.

@@TheTravelingHutchisons Thank you. I am a bit confused though as I've just found this from NC500 Ltd
      Overnight Parking
‘Wild Camping’ under the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003 is only allowed when camping by foot, bike or other non-motorised transport. It DOES NOT apply to motorised vehicles such as campervans or motorhomes.
The Road Traffic Act 1988 states that you can drive a vehicle up to 15 yards off a public road for the purpose of parking, but this does not confer any right to park the vehicle. If parking in laybys or car parks you must do so in line with the Road Traffic Act 1998 - vehicles may use a designated formal lay-by to rest, including overnight in a motorhome as long as the activity is contained within the vehicle - i.e. no awnings, tables, chairs, cooking etc outside the vehicle. Please Note: This also includes vehicles with rooftop tents - These are only legally permitted in formal campsites..

@@junehall2177 hey so the NC500 has many park up points on the park 4 night app. I did the Nc500 a couple of years ago. And as you have said above you can stay overnight as long as you contain it to you vehicle . I.e you are parking but not puting up awnings and creating a campsite etc. On the NC500 there are clear signs that will tell you if you can park overnight or not.( The national park dont usually allow you to park overnight without paying) but if no signs then it is usually ok. If you are not allowed and no signage then you may get someone knocking on the van asking you to move on and as long as you do you should have no issues. I would reccomend using the park 4 night app as this will tell you where you can sleep overnight and if there are any restrictions . I uses park 4 night when doing the Nc500 and found plenty of places to either park for free or park and pay for the night. . Hope thia helped.
