Erwin: Who do you think is the enemy?
Eren: Me....
Erwin: What?
Eren: What?
Nice one 😂
😂😂
😂
Eren basically told his dad to go have him. When Eren Kruger was talking to grisha, he told grisha to have a family and to save mikasa and armin and that was because of the memories Eren Jaegar gave him. So Eren basically went back in time and said ayo dad, make sure I exist and save my homies.
Erwin: "Eren, you are humanity's greatest hope."
Eren: "Okay, that's kind of a weird way to spell *G L O B A L G E N O C I D E*

Ymir's past was all full of references
1) The king was siting like the fake king
2) Everyone blamed her like they did to Ymir (jaw titan)
3) when she was pregnant she looked just like Historia
4) The stories of titans killing marley people and building bridges for Eldia were both true
Isayama's attention to detail is borderline terrifying.
Your 4th point is crazy.
To think readers and watchers, along with the characters in the show, didn't consider that Ymir's people and Eldia were 2 different things. It really feels poignant when Eren refers to his people as "Subjects of Ymir", not as "Eldians".
The details make this show perfect - 13 fingers pointed Ymir - 13 years of curse, 9 petals on flower that Ymir saw when she fell off the slope - 9 titans shifters
Also you can now back to the ending of season 2 (ED3 - Yuugure no Tori) and keep in mind that this ending was years before scenes, which you saw in this episode, was written in manga.
This worm that gave Ymir power existed irl and it's called Hallucigenia (obviously it didn't change people into titans irl) :)
So, AoT is just the story of a one of kind worm that tries to survive as a parasite through humans and multiply in order to run from extinction?
Not the same worm, the IRL worm is very tiny. Isayama probably just googled something like, "cambrian explosion" and picked a random worm that looked cool to draw into the story lol

The ending was a big let down, so I wouldn’t be surprised. Isayama also authorized changes to the Uprising arc to fix some things he didn’t like, so I can see him also wanting to tweak the ending.
@@Ren_Davis0531 question is will there be a new manga chapter!
The deal that ymir made with the devil was actually the deal with the king....and the devil offering her the apple was the king giving her his "seed"
Eren's basically going to make Paradis Island's history a reality where all of the humans have perished outside the walls (in this case the island) and they are the only ones who have survived.

The eyes show the presence of the soul. Ymir when accepted Eren's offer she showed her eyes and a part of her soul that was enslaved was finally set free.
Looking at the armor of the Marlayans in the Ymir flashback it seems like they were much more advanced than the Eldians. They were probably an expandinding Empire themselves until the Eldian Tribe got the Titan powers.
since it's a TRIBE they were most likely less advanced, so Ymir's powers really helped
See it this way... Marley as the Roman Empire, Eldia as a Germanic Tribe... when Eldia subjugated Marley they asmileted their technology and culture.
I thought they were based off of real life civilizations, Eldia being Vikings/Danes, Marleyans being Spartans or Romans, etc. But alternate history took over when Ymir became a titan
The Eldians were the barbaric and less advanced German tribes and the Marleyans were the equivalent of the Roman empire. That is why Eldians have Germanic names such as Armin, Yaeger, lived in Germanic architecture whilst Marlayans had more Romantic names such a Nicolo, Theo, Marcel
I think it fits well that we continuously keep seeing the other group be the aggressor when we thought we found the source of the victim. Before Marlayans were a powerful empire Eldians could've been oppressors before even that. In the end the story is about the blindness and ignorance of the generations before and seeking revenge for something that already was a form of revenge.
The ending of Season 2 showed the Rumbling, the 3 daughters eating Ymir and more... YEARS before even the manga showed what it all meant. This story is soo well fleshed out, I love it!. Also, they full on showed Eren's Founding Titan in the Rumbling opening. Seeing it animated is just a treat to see.
I called that the openings foreshadow things before they were in the manga before season 2 even released. Season 1's second opening foreshadowed hange losing an eye, Armin being covered in blood (him killing thousands of people) and much more
Ymir's Backstory could be summed up with "Oh you think That's hella messed up?! ...just wait another 5 Seconds!" and it would continuously apply to the entire segment!
I think its easy to armchair Ymir's situation. "I wouldn't do it" well yea but her scenario runs a lot deeper than that.
I think it's fine. Ymir isn't real so there is no chance of insulting her. He's just being honest. Obviously in the story Ymir has been traumatized in the worst ways possible over a period of millenia. Who even knows how her mind operates at this point? Wouldn't a normal person be insane after a few months of total isolation? Let alone two millenia.
@@maybeitsyou1317 I know and I’m not blaming him as I think it’s normal human behavior to try and relate yourself in that situation. I’m just saying that it’s just not as simple as the King treated her poorly so she should take her new found power and destroy the Eldian empire.
this is about the slave mindset, she can't fight that with physical strength, so it doesn't matter if she becomes a titan, she think is still a slave
I really love the significance of Eren telling Ymir she could be free. So crushing to think that the Founding Titan needed to be commanded by royal blood because after 2000 years, Ymir still only responded to what she viewed as her ‘masters’… and yet, the Attack Titan also represented a fragment of her power. The part that yearned to be free. Eren has always been the embodiment of that part of her.
Season 2 ending was actually so amazing.
It foreshadowed everything!
Even showing Maria, Rose, and Sina eating Ymir!
10:04 It's a common belief in old tales that consuming the flesh of a monster grants you some kind of ability. Like eating mermaid flesh to gain immortality. It makes sense that these ancient barbarians would think to eat the body of a girl that could transform into a monster.
Eren "Vibe Check" Yaeger: "You fucked around, now you gonna find out."
Seriously though, I legit thought that book on yall's table was a box of cereal with the Beast Titan as the mascot.
I would eat that, we should call it Furry O's or Betrayal Bran Flakes.
...I forgot some companies decided marshmallows in cereals are a good idea...
but it would be fine having Beast Titan cereals xD

Some neat trivia about this episode. The creature that attached itself to Ymir’s spine resembles/is designed after an ancient organism called Hallucigenia, which lived around 500 million years ago, during the Cambrian period (and discovered in the Burgess Shale, Canada). The location itself is kinda symbolic because the Burgess Shale is sorta considered an "Origin of Life" in terms of its archaeological significance, thanks to the vast records of biodiversity preserved in it, which lead to the majority of life forms that exist today on the planet. So one can say Ymir "made contact" with the "Source of Life” in a symbolic sense, like Eren Krueger hypothesized back in Season 3 of the anime.
This episode also had a lot of Norse mythology imagery and inspiration. In addition to the mythological Ymir being the first Jötunn and ancestor of all Jötnar (i.e. giants/titans), the Hallucigenia-like creature likely also symbolizes Níðhöggr, the dragon/serpent/wyrm who knaws at the roots of the world tree Yggdrasil (which is represented by the giant tree Ymir falls into and later on “The Paths” that connect all Eldians). Also Ymir’s Titan powers later splitting into the 9 Titan shifter powers is also a likely reference to the 9 Realms in Norse mythology that the world tree Yggdrasil maintains. Also the ancient Eldians seem to resemble Norse/Vikings in terms of their design (with the ancient Marleyans resembling Romans).
Also the Wall Titans won’t just be killing all humans outside of the island of Paradis, they will also end up destroying the majority of all other life (flora and fuana larger than microorganisms) as well, which is a huge ecological/environmental disaster to the Biosphere in general (which admittedly is partially something that Isayama himself likely didn’t fully appreciate/consider when writing the story as well).
Thank you.
If you look at the 9 titans they fit into groups of 3 with things in common. Jaw, Beast, Cart. Founder, attack, warhammer. armored, collosal, female. This could be the split off from Maria, Rose and Sina.
Why those 3 groupings specifically?
@@suryanarayana9525I think it has to do with what the titans derive from. The three muscle covered titans all look the same, the three beast like titans all have animal characteristics, and the three other have a very human depiction. It could be because these groups were each a single titan within Sina, Maria, and Rose until they were spilt into three.
@@duncansmith5520I have always thought the same, but I recently saw someone switch female titan and warhammer. I think it makes as much sense since the female titan can be in the "human characteristics" category as you said, while the warhammer can fall in the same type as the armored and colossal as they represent physical aspects ( size, hardening).
But I also think your theory is plausible symbolically speaking ( eren reuniting the founding, attack and WH / female colossal and armor attacking paradis together)
I can’t stop rewatching Eren’s message at the end

*Eren after Willy's speech*
Eren: "Willy Tybur is right. I'm a bad guy. I might even destroy the world."
Let it be known that Eren is nothing if not a man of his word.
Cannibalism in many cultures was used (and still practiced today) as a method of gaining power. Tribe leaders would eat their powerful enemies in order to "gain their knowledge and strength". So it probably wasn't weird for the king to order his kids to eat ymir in order for them to gain her power.
i agree with you..
Not to weird, but he got extremely fucking lucky that eating her spine was the key to passing on the power

25:25 Chris is right
She helped only who could set her free
she Helped Zeke because Eren needed him to control the Coordinate
She helped Eren because he was the only one that wanted to help her and had the means to do it
In the manga, when Eren was taken by Bertholdt, Reiner, and Ymir, and he asked her who the real enemy is, she said "If I had to say, it'd be..." and Bertholdt cuts her off by screaming her name. But that makes the full line "If I had to say, it'd be Ymir."
I read the manga and this episode still had me jumping out of my seat‼️This is by far one of my top 3 favorite ANIME episodes to date!!

When Suraj rewatches the season 2 outro with the dub crew he's gonna have a field day. There's so much foreshadowing in that ending :))
Eren is the point at which depression gives way to anger and hatred. When determination and confidence are replaced by guilt and depression, Zeke is the result.
True. But you can't blame zeke (and I don't think you are). I mean Eren was just a asshole to him this entire time. Zeke believed Eren had been brainwashed just like his father tried to do to him, and he wanted to try so hard to save Eren from that. Then when he found out what a monster Eren was, and that Eren uno reversed him and thanked him for bringing him into the memories, Zeke felt guilty. That he was the reason Eren activated the rumbling. Then he feels depressed because Eren activates the rumbling and his brother betrayed him. Zeke really does need to reject humanity and return to monke.

A couple of points:
The "someone" that Ymir was waiting for, was ANYONE who would tell her "you get to choose", which she had never heard in her life since she was enslaved as a child until Eren said it to her; she had been so conditioned to slavery that she wouldn't even express free will until someone else told her to, she needed PERMISSION to express herself
The spear not only went through her heart, it severed her spine (which was what made it lethal to her), and the last words from the man she protected was "what are you doing? get up" without even a SHRED of sympathy or appreciation, then forcing his children to cannibalize their mother's entire corpse (because Ymir was the first, no one knew about spinal fluid, so the children had to eat THE WHOLE THING), King Fritz was the OG cunt
also this confirms that you don't NEED to be a mindless titan to gain the power from consuming a shifter's spinal fluid, it's just that it's considerably easier to eat any part of a human as a titan than it is to try and eat someone as a human, I don't even want to imagine how disgusting it must be to CONSUME SOMEONE'S SPINE
8:35 my favorite theory is that the thing in the tree is based on Nidhogg from Norse mythology, a dragon/serpent that fed on the roots of the world tree Yggdrasil and came out during Ragnarok (aka the rumbling) to aid the giants (the titans)
28:25 Eren Can’t change the future, the memories from the future are just as set in stone as the memories from the past.
Which makes his story all the more tragic. He always wanted freedom m, but now that he has the future he knows he never can have it. As Kenny said “everyone is a slave to something.” Even if Eren is doing what he wants, he still doesn’t have a choice.

Yall NEED to go back and watch Season 2's ED after this episode. It shows just how far out Isayama had this story planned. Season 2 aired the same time as the Warhammer VS Eren came out in the manga, before any of this was written.
Is it fair to say that Isayama's genius is borderline insane?
What did it show??
@@ProtagonisTeneT it shows Sina, Rose, and Maria eating Ymir and the king standing behind them like we saw in this episode. The manga hadn't even gotten to that point when S2 was airing. It also shows us a bunch of titans flattening the earth, as we are now seeing as well in current anime.

It can be interpreted that the picture of Ymir making a deal with the devil is referencing Ymir being a slave to the king.
The king is the devil in that picture, and Ymir is the girl. If I remember correctly, the manga showed the king with a horned helmet, like devil horns (maybe the anime does too, I dont remember seeing it though)
The anime does too^^ And given his rapsheet, i dont doubt that Marleayn depictions of him would paint him as the literal Devil. Classic Propaganda tactics tbh.
ymir falling into the pool of water, was also teased in one of the endings with historia falling in instead. everything was revealed to us since the beginning. here from the RTTV live btw
In the manga this was the chapter that made me say "Damn nature, you scary" girl falls into the water and some spine attacking water worm turns her into a kaiju moral of the story stay out of cave water
Everyone talking about seeing Maria Rose sina in s2 credits, but no one talking about how we saw the parasite in s3. It was on screen for like 5 whole seconds right after Eren did his first hardening.

"And that's how you stop racism" That gave me a good chuckle hahaha
its also crazy how the name of this episode is “From You, 2000 Years Ago” and the very first episode of AoT is “To You, 2000 Years From Now”. Basically, Ymir at the Paths sent a beacon of help to kid Eren (before Bertholdt destroying the walls) when he was chilling under the tree and if you remember, he saw flashes of memories that he didnt understand. That’s why here in this episode, Eren tells Ymir that wasn’t she the one who brought Eren here, how she must have been waiting for someone to help her.
Thank you for explaining this 🤝
I wasn't able to understand that scene
Eren:Hey Armin ! If you go to end of the ocean , you will fall down from the world.
Armin: World is not flat Eren
Eren: Not yet
"This is the first time I've seen them put Eldia in a bad light."
Are they any worse than the Marleyans? Most likely they also had slaves and practiced similarly brutal and barbaric practices. The only difference is that Eldia obtained a weapon greater than Marley. It would be the same outcome if Eldia had advanced cannon technology and no one else. Often in history it's the ones in power who are the devils, but that's just because they were the first to beat everyone else to the punch.
26:45 I think that flower vision in the pilot was foreshadowing Hannes' death in S2. I think in Hannes' death scene they showed those flowers and the blood
I mean if you interpret it that way, King Fritz can be easily considered the Devil with whom the deal was made
King Fritz didn't give any power he aint no transcendent being. He was a shitty, awful, fucked up, regular guy. There was nothing special about him, he was luck that's it. Ymir still having a slave mentality after stumbling across the power of the founding titan was luck for him. She should of turned around and ate that bitch whole. She didn't make a deal with him to get that power, she just continued to live like a slave. Fritz is regular ass trash ass person who got lucky, that's it, there is n nothing to read between the lines when it comes to him. The mediator of taking the apple from the devil is to represent the double edge sword of the power she received. The devil represent the fact that this great power comes last a price. Fritz aint the actual devil himself, he aint know the power existed, you giving the bastard to much credit, even the devil is an upgrade from that power hungry pussy.
3:06 I like that acknowledgment by Chris since it's so true. Grisha was one of the most kindest & geniunelly selfless people in the show but got fucked over so much.
"I'll kill every last one of them and wipe them from the face of the earth!"
If you remember how angry Eren was at the Titans in the beginning of the series, this choice wasn't suprising. Eren's hatred simply transferred from Titans to the rest of the world. As he mentioned, if someone's going to steal his freedom, he's going to steal theirs first.
He really meant it every time he said “I’ve always been this way since i was born” etc.
11:51 You don't understand the extent of plot armour of Floch yet. 😂
Every time I can't help but think about how Gabi shot Eren and the next second this man grew a spine from his severed head, girl must have been SO CONFUSED lmao
One of the most iconic anime Sundays ever. Eren said imma use racism to end racism 😭 Like that one Game of Thrones episode, the minimal dialogue and lone OSTs just leaves you speechless at how tragically epic this is. Seeing Ymir's eternal suffering crumble with the walls is literally spine chilling. Only thing I can compare it to is Firelord Ozai scorching the earth for the first time but on a much grander scale.

Dude really said "I wouldn't do it" about a person who was a slave since childhood being abused in every single way lmao
Oh yeah when he said exterminate everything outside the island I'm pretty sure he also counts Eldians that are not living in the walls
Yeah eldians like the ones in marley still believe the island eldians to be the true devils. They are oppressed by marley and taught to hate their own kind so they likely want the eldians on paradis dead just as much as the rest of the world. That makes them eren's enemy. He only has allegiance to paradis.
The blood splattering on the flowers in Eren's dream in the pilot is actually Hannes' blood in S2 finale
Let's get ready to RUMBLE!!!
~Said Eren Calmly
Slave mentality is strong, lots of slaves through history have died for their masters
the thing that gave Ymir the power of the titans resembles an organism called Hallucigenia an ancient organism
ymir was the name of the ancestor of all jötnar (giants) in norse mythology.
there is lots of nordic influence here, ie the tree she falls into (paths tree) references yggdrasil (world tree) & the ‘parasite’ underneath is a nod to the Níðhöggr that gnaws on yggdrasil’s roots.
in fact the substance that contains the parasite underneath the tree is likely a reference to the ‘Eitr’. this liquid is the origin of all living things, which aligns to kruger’s words at the end of s3: ‘our ancestor ymir touched the source of all living matter.’
These is peak AOT. This n the last 2 episodes truly r worth the praise. As a reward I shall give Isayama my (seed) gratitude. ;)

and it gets even crazier when you think about the fact that the paths exist essentially outside of time. everything can take as long as it wants and happen in an instant at the same time. imagine how many hundreds of thousands of years she's been sculpting titans in there
I think it’s very important to remember that we’re told in the Marley arc that Eldians there are actually treated (a lot) better then Eldians everywhere else in the world.
Everywhere else they’re basically in concentration camps until they die.
More recently this is because Marley mobilised the 5 titans they had power of and basically conquered the rest of the world.
So when Eren says everyone needs to die not to just Marley, he’s completely right. It’s the island or the rest of the world!
Considering 5 years ago no one within the walls new there were people living outside of it, Im surprised there wasn’t more yeagerist.
But help but notice I’m getting loads of Norse mythology vibes from AOT.
The first Titan being called “Ymir” same name as the first giant from Jötunheim.
The rainbow thing looks like a mixture of the Yggdrasil and a Bifrost??
its crazy how we saw parts of this episode in the season 2 outro/ending.
If you notice, originally the Coordinate was a singular spire, then after her daughters eat her it branches out to 3, then as more people are born from their bloodline it branches out more.
I believe she can only reform the body's not control anything. Like Zeke when he gets blown up and she rebuilds his body. She builds the titan bodies and the flash of light is it coming into being.
Just a friendly reminder that Eren isn't about to commit genocide. Attack on Titan would never touch such a sensitive subject as genocide.
Eren is about to commit *omnicide.*
He's about to slaughter *everyone indiscriminately.* There's no "oh, don't step on the Eldians while you're doing your thing, almighty wall titans" he made it perfectly clear. Eren flat out said the only survivors will be the ones on the island.
Just wanting to hammer in just what Eren is saying at the end, since I think this is the only time we've ever seen a protagonist about to actually commit *omnicide.*
how is it indiscriminate if he is sparing the people of paradis? you could argue its discriminatory towards everyone EXCEPT the people of paradis

Idk if this is just a coincidence or it’s on purpose but where Ymir got stabbed by the spear it’s where the scouts put there hands when they salute
Elidians in marley: what about us
Eren: i forgot the part where thats my problem you damn traitors
Ehh i would say the people who fled with the king and left behind their own are the traitors.
That lore drop about Ymir was a bit cut short but still impressive that they made that episode cohesive even tough stuff was cut from the manga. Props to the directors who do not have it easy with these short run times. I would not want to be the guy that has to decide what stuff from the manga gets cut and what stays in order to fit in a 20 min episode, because all of it is super juicy, must be a very hard decision.
What else was cut from the manga??
@@vadernoe2126 Ymir's flashback is actually extended in the anime.
I love how there was no rage when the show ended. Just shock and silence.
I am not sure if people have realized this or is it just me that got this idea, that every time a titan is transforming, Ymir is the one who is building the titan from scratch , even though it looks like it takes couple of seconds for the transformation to appear, it probably took Ymir months or even years to build up the titan body for than one single transformation, and she is also the one healing each and every single titan whenever they get injured or lose body parts... one by one .. crazy huh.. and not only that, she wasn't waiting for 2000 years, she probably waited an eternity.. 2000 years is only the time frame outside ..
I understand people want Eren to only Wipe out his enemies, But realistically If The united states wiped Russia and China off the planet, can you honestly tell yourself that everyone else will Feel find with it
With Russia and China they will wipe US off the planet.
Russia and China never attack usa the way marley did to eldia 🤨 stupid comparison
Dumb comparison
@@elt2773 Ok well Imagine they attacked us Headass.
When you realise that Marley didn't lie about Eldia but was wrong about Ymir and that Grisha was wrong about everything
"Understanding is a three-edged sword."
There are three sides to every story.
How was Grisha wrong she literally did build bridges, homes, etc. as well as Marley and eldia being at war and eldia was destroying them because of ymirs titans. Both part of the story was right but only the other side was telling the part they wanted to tell
@@malihoward6147 yeah. I love that part.
@@malihoward6147 Grisha was wrong because of the way he put the building bridges and homes thing. He interpreted has her building bridges and home for the entire world but he could read the language he would've understand that she was building this in Eldia.
@@sgcastle8389 by that logic you can say that Marley was wrong to because the way that they said eldia was just destroying and killing when eldia and Marley was just always fighting and killing each other and from the looks of it Marley was far superior and more advanced while eldia was struggling until Ymir and after they still was fighting
31:40 Thanks for the shout out Chris 😁👍
Us Kiwis tend to feel forgotten by the world, so it's awesome when we get mentioned lol 😆
also i love that he mentions the 2 minutes and its 2 minutes to the dot. 🤣🤣🤣

So genocide is okay ok the island aslong as everyone else survives?
That’s exactly the type of mentality the attack titan was created to oppose.
'ok' and 'maybe the better(but still horrible) option' are 2 different things
