Matt Fuller I’ve tried it in a few different stainless steel mugs and it worked well in them.
Can I use any dish washing liquid?
@@sanabutt9403 yes but it has to be dishwasher soap, not dish soap like dawn, Palmolive, etc.
I have tried multiple on-line suggestions that have not worked, so did not expect this to, either. When I dumped the water out and looked inside, I was in complete awe at the beautiful result, just as stated here. From now on, will be using this method weekly, am ecstatic to know it.

Amazing!! Thank you so much. I was just about to through away my old Thermos because we tried many different ways and hours to clean it and none of them worked. Then as I was going to the trash can I thought, wait a minute, you haven't done a UA-cam search yet. Your video was the first one I watched. The dishwasher pod started loosing the crud as soon as I added the boiling water. After an hour I dumped out the nasty water, rinsed it and low and behold it was like new again just as you said. Can't thank you enough for this video!! Also, thanks for the link on the Thermos mug. Just ordered one.

I started to clean my insulated coffee mug, it wasn't going very well using several classic techniques. I then did an internet search and came across your video. It seemed to simple however I gave it a try and it worked magic, my mug is like new on the inside. Thank you.

Not going to lie, I didn't think this was going to work on my travel mug. Mine tends to be in constant use, so it was caked in scum. But bloody hell it worked perfectly. It was spotless, thanks for the tip.
Used your method to clean 20 yrs of gunk from large stainless steel Stanley thermos. The result was awesome and 100% satisfying! All the brown stains just up and left. Thank you for this video!

I saw another video by a Dr. One of his patients had a persistent cough: no risk factors. But had a travel coffee mug; he put it in the dishwasher 1ce a week. Dr. grabbed it: took off the sipping lid thing: it had black mould under it. He pulled the rubber ring on the lid: more mould. Dr. took it to the office sink, scoured it with just hand soap, rinsed well, and instructed patient to do so 2ce a day. Persistent cough gone in 3 or 4 days. (Not that the coffee-mug brand matters, but the patient's mug was a Yeti brand. So it was designed to be able to be pulled apart in such a manner)
So, getting the yukkies out of the interior is good, but scouring out the lid is an equally good idea.

I have a Stanley thermos that my Dad bought me for my graduation gift from high-school in 1987 . I guess it was his way of telling me to get a job. Anyway it has been barely washed in all those years and was getting to the point I was going to pitch it and buy a new one, But thing aren't made with quality anymore so I searched it on UA-cam. I rinsed out y thermos a couple of times and followed your instructions and let it sit for a few hours. When I poured the water out it was just like I had brewed a pot of coffee it was that black. I'm doing it one more time and letting it sit until morning and it should be good to go !! Thanks for sharing this idea

Thank you for posting this. My husband’s thermos was so gross and he just tossed it up to stains… His prized thermos looks new now! Also- you don’t need a dishwasher pod to do this method, I used regular powder detergent and worked amazing. About a tsp-Tbs works. Dishwasher pods are expensive so save your hard earned $$$

Great great info!!! I have a medium sized Walmart ozark cup. I keep it very clean but decided to do this and got it back to really brand new looks and was surprised the residue it got!

Oh my goodness! It works! Thank you so much! I had to do this process twice because my coffee thermos mug was extremely stained but these dish washer tabs completely loosened the stained gunk that collected inside my mug. I decided to try this with my husband's Thermos. It's been scrubbed as best as I can a couple times. I dropped in a dishwasher tab, added boiling water, & left it ... accidentally all day. It worked as described!! The Thermos was prob'ly 15 years old. I had to show my husband! Thank you so much for sharing this!

By far this will clean the nastiest, most stained stainless steel mugs. I am a daily user of half and half in my coffee.....every so often, I have to check in to watch this video to remind me of the technique. I've had my Ozark Trail mug for a LONG time...and I intend to keep it that way- this method works best!

Excellent choice in travel mugs! I agree this is the best mug you can get. Lid comes almost 100% apart and it's all dishwasher safe (just put the small parts in a dishwasher caddy). To keep the build up out of mine, I just make sure to rinse it when I get home from work, then once a week put it in the dishwasher. If you are going to use this method, I would recommend not using pods. Regular dishwasher detergent (liquid or powder) will accomplish the same thing using far less detergent. The pod is at least 5 times the amount of detergent you need for 1 mug.
Thanks for the video, and they say don't put it in the dishwasher since it's "double walled" so both walls will expand at the same temperature, which ruins the vacuum and it won't be able to retain heat/cold as long

I'd just like to add. Not sure if its the tablets I use. (I'm from the UK and use the fairy platinum plus tablets, that look pretty much identical to those cascade tablets.) But I only need to let it soak for 30 minutes and after a good wipe and rinse the cup is spotless.
It looks easy, but I picked up some dishwashers at the 99 cent store, and they didn't do much. I'm going to try this brand now. Note: I've been using this travel mug for 20 years or more. It's probably going to take more than an hour to get it shiny clean like yours. 👍😉

A dishwasher not only will do a bad job of cleaning but it will wreak the opening and closing mechanism in your lid if you have the kind where you push a button to open it and it will also wear away the seal and your mug will leak and not hold heat as well

I tried it works and it is amazing!!! I had two identical cups so I did for one and microwaved the soap water again and clean the other one. It is just amazing.

My method is similar, I use denture tablets (e. g, Polident). Then I leave it until I remember about it. Cleaned out a decade of gunk the first time. Now I use once a month.

I wash mine with this technique about once every other month. Even if you don’t see build up inside the mug, it can still be in there as a light film and affect the taste of your coffee or tea.
Thanks, now I have two methods that work! I got the exact same results using hydrogen peroxide, baking soda and HOT water. I'll try you method next time.

I have the same Thermos. The rubber liner they have in the lid stinks, I tried washing it multiple times, including keeping in dishwasher overnight. No luck. Any suggestions?
Do you have to use the whole capsule. I’m thinking the capsule is for a dishwasher load and we’re trying to clean one mug. Maybe put the contents of 10 tabs in a bottle then use a little bit for each clean. This one’s for free guys. I’m gonna give it a go. Let me know how any of you get on. 😊
Does this method help with a sour smell? I left my cup in my truck on accident for a few days with sweet tea in it because I went out of town for work and forgot my cup now it’s filthy and stinks really bad. I was gonna just throw it away but it’s a cup my niece got me so was hoping I could just clean it and remove the smell
Maybe it’s the cover that needs to be cleaned. I have used many different brands and it’s the cover that holds all the gunk. Maybe he will do a video on the cover.
I watched 5his video hoping to find out about the top part that screws on. How to take it apart and clean it but it never got mentioned
Sorry, I never had a problem cleaning mine. Just unscrew the plastic nut and remove the center disc. You then have good access to the inner side of the lid for cleaning

Mine comes apart. Dish soap and a sponge is all I use. You can try putting the lid in a bowl with a dishwasher pod. I’m sure it would do the same as it does inside the mug

Ever try a cap full of bleach in water overnight? I use that for ceramics but haven’t tried it on stainless yet.

i've ruined a few stainless steel travel mugs using diluted bleach. Don't do it bucause it breaks the vacuum seal and renders your mug useless

I’ve tried magic eraser and it only works if minor stains - I’ve been scrubbing and scrubbing... I am going to try this method. Although, I am going to try liquid dishwasher soap because I don’t have any pods. Fingers crossed!
Tried it, scrubbed like hell, but only took a little of the stain off.

What about the lid
Dish soap and a sponge usually works for me in the lid. You could probably do a similar treatment with the lid by placing it in a bowl with the same technique used on the mug portion

@@italiandude3 figured that but that’s the easiest part to clean. Some soap, a sponge and you’re done. I’m primarily showing how to remove the stubborn coffee stains from inside the mug.
