- Behind the scenes with Lon Chaney as he tries out his role as the Hunchback of Notre Dame, John Barrymore's home movies as he pals around with friends and Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi as they tease one another during the filming of a promo for an upcoming film.
" There is nothing more frightening then a clown after midnight."
- Lon Chaney
One of my favorite quotes
Lon Chaney was so fit.
Great video! I am so glad we could watch things like these on this age. Bela Lugosi and Boris Karloff are my favorite actors.
Same bro
Where would Universal Horror Films be without these Two Wonderful Actors ?
Great to see the greats at the top of their mark.
John Barrymore actor legendary best 🎭
Theatre 🎭
Lugosi calling Karloff "Frankenstein" when he played Dr. Frankenstein's nameless monster, named only "The Monster" in the credits. So the mislabeling started very early.
I think it's because "Frankenstein" was shorter than saying "Frankensteins Monster". Idk I feel like that's why most people still call Frankensteins Monster, "Frankenstein".
Lon was so handsome
Love it..Two Greats..Gonna play it again
Yeah, you should. There are 4 greats in this clip.
Oh my gosh - where did you ever find all these?? Except for the clip of Chaney demonstrating a little technique for "Hunchback", I'd never seen these! The last one with Karloff and Lugosi was especially amazing, not just because later we learned Lugosi didn't much like Karloff (or so it's been said - heck, who knows for sure now? lol).
Anyway, THANKS for sharing!!
Boris and Bela together how cool is that!
♥️♥️♥️♥️
even the sped up footage on the old camera on the Lon Chaney clip feels cinematic
Barrymore and Christopher Plummer look a lot alike, at least in this clip of Barrymore
All the classic "Monsters".
That would have been an epic chess game!!😎👍
Quasimodo, Doctor Jekyll, Frankenstein's Monster, and Dracula.
@clementinemonkey your absolutely right. thank you for catching that. These are his home movies not him at home.
The is a replica of Lon Chaney's makeup case on sale on eBay.
The world stopped when Lon Chaney, died.. Wonder if Barrymore, was sober when this was shot??...
These men would be horrified if they saw what the world has become today...
Well Bela fought in the Great War though he was exempt from enlisting not sure about the other two but men were tougher back then.
bro they lived during world wars im sure many would be happy to see how things are now
considering Lugosi was a communist, yes, he probably would be rather horrified.
Can anybody tell me the name of the song that plays during Barrymores segment? :)
Lon Chaney SNR.
Es una pena que Bela Lugosi y Lon Chaney nunca protagonizaron una película juntos, verlos interactuar hubiera sido fantástico.
They both appeared in Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein.
@@queenglamazona8789 I mean Lon Chaney Sir, Lon jr. if he worked with Bela.
Sadly Lon Chaney Senior never worked with Bela Lugosi, But they both played the Same Role(more or less) when Lugosi Starred in a Remake of London After Midnight-Titled-Mark of the Vampire. What's interesting about the Chaney Movie is that it became a Lost Film, With Only Photos of Lon Chaney in Vampire Makeup Surviving. Not many have seen the Original Version, But according to some sources the Lugosi remake followed It Closely.
Barrymore isn't at home - he's at the Warner Bros studios with guess who???
Well, at least the great Barrymore did not expose his 3 piece set (Richard the III) to news reel viewing public. Which he was notorious for doing with, ah, should i say, the other sex.
There's an old story that goes like this: Bela was offered the part of "Frankenstein" before Boris Karloff. He reacted in a disgusted way to it, saying he was a world renowned actor and would NOT stoop so low as to portray "the monster" in Mary Shelley's classic. It didn't take the producers long to find the lonely Englishman Boris Karloff, who gladly accepted. Afterwards, we all know that Karloff went on to much greater things and Lugosi was left in the weeds. That may have contributed a lot to his emotional and physical decline that later we witnessed.
I always thought it was the makeup that was his reason for declining, something he later regretted (and got a second chance at).
Bela lugosi was meant for dracula and boris was meant for Frankenstein
Fun Fact-Bela Lugosi did eventually play the Monster in Frankenstein Meets The Wolfman. I guess he wasn't So Demanding about Roles at that Point.
They all died!
Are you. . .sure? 😲
