    Or use an olsen hegar needle holder which have scissors. I'm a vet do dozens of surgeries a day always "independently" and can't imagine doing surgery without them.

      @@imixmuan9081 so true ! But you know when you’re doing a Subcuticular and you accidentally cut your suture …. The heart 💔 😂

      @@MedSyncVT That definitely happens. The other day I was closing a long abdominal incision with a simple continuous and I freaking cut the suture right at the end with my scissors. Option A) take out the whole line and start over. Option B) Do a simple interrupted, leave the tail long and tie the first line to the new one with like six throws. I chose option B.

      @imixmuan9081 hahahah it's funny because I can see those same options running through my head when it's happened to me too!
      Using an Olsen Hegar is another way to take the next step in suturing - it's quick for cutting but you know that at any given time if you mis-mount that needle..you're suture is a gonner. Good way to check your focus and precision some may say

    Could you please do a video on how to cut suture tails, what scissors to use for sutures, and the proper technique to cut with scissors ?
    I have not seen a real comprehensive video on those specifics .

    Thats cool. But how abt using Olsen-Hegar needle holder? Then there is no need for the scissors?

    • @MedSyncVT
      @MedSyncVT  Рік тому +1

      Top advice
      The technique in this video works well if you're in casualty where you don't typically have lots of needle holder options or using a small suture like a 5/0 or 6/0 suture and need a finer needle holder tip than an Olsen-Hegar.
      It's good to have options though 😌

    Simply use needle holder with integrated scissors, and no need for this movements

      These are great IF the set has it or you are in a main theatre where these are often available separately packed. If you are doing a minor procedure such as excision and closure of a small skin cancer, a biopsy, or you are suturing a laceration in the Emergency Department these are not available. At least not in the UK.
      It's also very common to cut the suture when you hadn't intended to, especially if you are new to using them or are momentarily distracted 🤣

      1. Make sure you do it on an areas that's anaesthetised
      2. Don't let the point of the needle touch the skin ad you do it, just use the body of the needle 🥰
