Thanks for showing the tool off David!
It's super cool! I love it. Thanks Andrew!
Hey look, the mad scientist is in chat. If only I made pencils lol, very nice jig Andy :)
Great job!
Already pledged. Instabuy!
Awesome jig Andrew! :D
This is going to change the game, this makes writing accessible to anyone!
Big pencil HATE him.
I love this wood working book WoodKing.xyz . A few of the topics talked about in the book include wood working strategies, explanation on the development cycles of trees, and various lumber characteristics that craftsmen favor. I also provided my father another copy.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
colored pencils with clear epoxy so you can see through to the lead in the middle 🤩
Andrew Kline never ceases to amaze me with the stuff he designs, this is just another vision of his brilliance!
Indeed he does have a ton of good ideas!
Guys learn beginner to advance level woodworking at *TopFineWoodworking. Com* more then 16000 woodworking plans available to learn
Thanks for showcasing Andrew he’s brilliant. Awesome pencils by the way David! And congrats on 500k brother!

This video put one huge smile on my face! This type of project is exactly what makes this hobby so damned cool. Shout out to Andrew for such a clever jig!! Cheers
Me before watching: Why the heck would I wanna make pencils??
Me after watching: I kinda wanna make pencils.
Ha!
Thank for sharing how to use the jig! The pencils look rad!
This is amazing! Now I can take end grain color pencil art to the next level- the NEXT LEVEL
1:47 "I love these Harbor Freight clamps."
I do too! And now I want to make pencils with them. Thanks for sharing.
I bought some Harbor Freight clamps once, broke the first time I used them.
It was great hanging with Andrew last week at WBC. His Kickstarter on his bench vice is already fully funded in less than a day. Another cool jig from Andrew.
This was way easier than your last pencil project. And you even put them in the beautiful pencil holder for display! This jig is cool, these pencils are cool, and you are a cool dude. Thanks for sharing!
Right on, thanks Seth!
Looks great. Love those Harbor Freight clamps! Can never have enough
Love this project! I think it’s cool how you work with other makers and showcase their projects. Keep up your amazing work, D. P.!!
Thanks Bill!
Very cool! Awesome that you spotlight this product!
What a cool use for scrap wood and leave it to Andy to revolutionize a process.
Any project that can effectively reuse scrap wood is truly amazing!
I never thought I'd want to make a pencil... Now I do
ima be one of them people "ya i only use pencils made out of pencils"
kill lls
Awesome video. Definitely gonna be part of my wish list this year
Awesome! Now you need to come up with a use for all those beautiful curls that come off your plane!
I love the collaboration! 👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks for being you. Nice work!
That is so cool!! Thanks for sharing, David!
Totally digging the "Gimbal Backing Track" for Cameraman Dan to do his thing. Funny thing is, I actually prefer it at 1.75 speed. Keep doing your thing Picciuto!! Love your stuff!
The Essential Wood Book is soooo good, I have it on loan from the library currently (Where else to get plans) but the detail it gives on the wood its self is great!
Interesting jig and well engineering. Thanks for sharing !
You teased this on the podcast, and I’ve been waiting for it!
What a cool way to different wood types of pencils
Thank you for your continued use of Harbor Freight clamps! Makes me feel part of the club.
Love me a quality wooden pencil!! Fun and creative video!!
Thank you for sharing
Excellent work.! ♥
Man I just love watching your channel ! Very cool!
Great video and jig! Nice job Andy!
My wife loves your projects. Good job, even better channel.
Yes he always has great ideas and does an excellent job of presenting the project.
This is a superb wood working book I`ve ever read, *TopFineWoodworking. Com* . Both novice and some skilled woodworker can gain a lot of general info using this reading material. I`ve been very amazed how frequently I use this to look up woods at places like to restore and salvage spots.?
Really cool...leave it to Andy to solve a pain point! He's good at that.
Great job!
I never thought to make my own pencils. That's dope dude. 👍🏼
This looks like a cool jig! Will have to check it out. Nice video as also. Keep up the good work 👍😀
That is so cool!
A couple of years ago there was this "artisinal pencil sharpening" thing going on, which seemed like a total joke... Now we see something like this popping up. You guys are just so far out there it's unbelievable!
Love me some Harbor Freight clamps too. So cheap and so good.
As always great video. Thanks
Nifty jig! I'd love to have a maple burl shop pencil haha. Another fun video!
Has numerous details in this woodwork book *TopFineWoodworking. Com* . The book also displays several designs and descriptions on the materials used for various woodworking processes and also the guidelines on completing various procedures appropriately. In other words, I`m happy using this book, especially in the process of learning about wood working.?
really cool. didn't realize this was even available.
Excellent job
Nice job!!!
Cool!
Nice project to do with kids!
Hipster that didn’t know desks were slanted. CLASSIC
Weird
Awesome stuff.
Thats really cool.
Sweet!
Thats a cool jig.
Looks very nice well done
Cool! 👍🏻✏️👊🏻
Awesome! I still have the one you made!!!
Neat project! It might be fun to try to match the color of the wood with the colored pencil leads. Purpleheart, Osage orange, etc. You might need to sharpen the pencils the same way you do your chisels though...
Love your videos David
Gotta get me one of those!!! Love it!
After getting this stuff few days ago, I could hardly put it down afterwards [Link Here== *TopFineWoodworking. Com* ]. There are lots of colorful pictures, with detailed descriptions of every step in the project. You will never miss your way using this plan. It was more than I expected.?
that is slick!!
That's cool...I would love to have one.
THat looks like a great jig.
This looks really therapeutic.
Once again awesome video an I can’t wait for payday to get down on this pencil maker! Stoked on the giveaway I need that shop math book somethin fierce! As per I never made it past basic math due to a learning curve some may say disability I say curve cause I’m still pursuing my dream in wood! Thanks for the videos an the podcast man!
Looks nice
Gonna have to get me one of them.
Neat idea, I like. Ever thought of trying to engrave a name on the side.
Sweet I love your show
very cool
I am looking at the feasibility of having fun too. Where the heck to find graphite and color 'lead' that is wooden pencil size (not mechanical pencil size?
Neat!
Would it make sense to cut the box joints into the stock before resawing? It would save a ton of time.
How many pencils do you need sell to cover the cost of the jig and materials and labor? and/or are you able to use it for anything other than pencils? could you use to make carpenter pencils with it? thanks
Artisanal colored pencils. A perfect episode of Portlandia.
Put a bird on it!
@@ragincanadiangmail ahhhhhhh, you beat me to it!
Peak hipster right here.
I need that!
Great video.... You should try make a "Bow & Arrow"
That is a cool jig. I wonder whether there is as big a market for shopmade pencils as there is for pens, but I can think of a number of weird things to make with this already. Any ideas regarding shipping to Germany? Thanks for sharing, David!
I’m interested in how multi species pencils would look and how many different variations are feasible
Woods by colleen pencils used 24 species. Of exotic wood back in 1996.. super sought after by pencil. Collectors.. idr the name. But a company owned by employees from colleen still makes the pencils now that colleen is gone from Japan... It's like hundreds of. Dollars tho
Those are really fun pencils. what price would you ask if you were selling those? Whats a handcrafted pencil cost? I'm not in the market but I would like to know.
Some purple heart pencils would be awesome.
My brain is bussing with ideas you could use this for!
Great video and I really like the B-roll slowmo part and the song. Is Kelly playing the drums on that one?
Thanks! That's actually a drum machine but Kelly and I are going to re-record drums for it soon.
Great video. At first glance I thought you were making chopsticks. I want to see you make chopsticks. Some super nice grain with variety of colors and perhaps the use of colored epoxy.
Hey, David. I have a wild hair and would love to get started on making my own hand crafted pencils. I’m a collector of pencils and have enjoyed them most of my life. I always felt if I had the knowledge and the tools, I could make a pencil that I truly want and could share with friends.
My question is, what can I do to get started on this journey? What are the tools I should consider buying and resources to look into (besides your channel, of course) to embark on this exciting side quest in my life?
Thanks in advance!
-Chase
As often as I loose my pencils and have to purchase new ones, ...thanks!!! This will save so much time and money and I'll have a great time as well!
No offense but if you lose your pencils what makes you think you won't lose these as well. It is a novel idea but using exotic woods that will be just sharpened away is a waste in my opinion. But if it turns your crank go for it. Regards.
@@dwightl5863 I can say this with confidence because i have never lost an exotic wood pencil before! And none taken!!
I think the walnut one with white "lead" is an ironic play on using a white pencil to mark walnut. Thumbs up! And I never realized how used to seeing two-tone pencils I was. That is, traditional #2 orange on the outside with the pale white surrounding the graphite. The single-tone of these really stands out and they look awesome!
What size pencil lead is this? As an artist/artisan I'm curious what I'd be getting!
What size lead did you use? I would love to try this!
Would love to get one but $120 shipping to France is way too much! I've ordered a lot of stuff from the US it's never been so expensive even for large or heavy objects... Maybe they could be a cheaper option? (Slow USPS vs FedEx for instance).
MOAR SLOW MO SHAVINGS! Whoot!
Beautiful pencils!
Ha! Thanks Peter! Any chance we’ll get to hang out at Maker Faire?
@@MakeSomething Glad you're coming back! I think it's been 3 years since you were here!
Really awesome! I wonder what the cost of one of these pencils should be or even if there is a market for them at craft shows?
The indigogo page he has is selling them for $35, with it being marked down from $50. Looks like only three have sold at this time, so if there isnt much of an online market there may not be much of a craft show market.
Hey, is this process possible with MDF leftovers?
Acabo de comprar el libro bandsaw box, me gusta bastante pero hay un problemilla, ciertas cosas no las entiendo bien...
Para cuando un libro en español? No estaría nada mal...
Un saludo desde España.
Where do you buy the leds?
Next episode, live edge epoxy river pencils!!!! 😝👍🏼
Never thought i would watch a video about David putting led in his pencil.
Nice video! Now I wanna try make pencils.. Who would have thought :P
Man, you could sell a freezer to an Eskimo. That’s a sweet looking jig!
What size/kind of plane is needed fit in the tracks of the pencil maker?
Most block planes will fit.
Why would you make your own pencils? Because it’s cool to make your own stuff. And because it’s fun. Nice video David, that jig is very clever.
