800,000+ registered offenders. 200,000 of which where children when convicted. some as young as 8 or 9 years old. We've placed kids who are just curious about the human body or are victims of abuse themselves and acting out because of that abuse in the same registry as the most predatory rapists. AND WORSE the general public doesnt realize this is the case, and are led to believe the registry is only violent criminals thus allowing the system to violate more and more people's rights. This is not public safety or justice in any way.

The sex offender registry is slavery.
It keeps a person who has completed their sentence bound to an authority, Institution, System or Person for life with the threat of incarceration, violence or death. It does not matter if the offender is chained or not, forced labor or not, exploited or not. The point is that they are bound for life with the threat of incarceration, violence or death.

I was accused and convicted in oklahoma. I served 12 3/4 years in prison. My victim reported to the police I committed this crime in my sleep. I was going through a divorce and hostile child custody battle when the accusations came forward. A woman that my wife met started feeding her drugs and "wanted" her but I stood in the way. She didn't like my kids yet she realized the only way she was going to get closer to my wife was through my kids. All of a sudden she was their savior. My ex wife had accused her father of the exact same accusation. When I told my kids during a visitation I was going to court the next week to get temporary full custody until she could find her own place, job, etc, because she was living with this woman and I didn't feel my ex-wife was in the right state of mind do to the drugs and her behavior and housing conditions. 2 days after I dropped them off, I get a protective order. I was represented by a public defender. There's alot more to this story. Now I have to get my driver's license renewed every year, even though I register every three months with state and federal. I feel it's extortion. I drive the same roads everyone else does (with) restrictions to safety zones, I pay the same road repair taxes everyone else does. There is no reason they can justify charging me $48.00 "every year" when every one else gets a license for four years at a "one time" cost of $48.00.. no attorneys have the guts to stand up to the state. I've written the ACLU, governor, tax commission with one response from the governor telling me the osbi deals with exonerations not addressing my complaint on the $$ for driver's license.. any comments, suggestions, advice, good or bad please email me at kennyfanning757@gmail.com.

My friend was unjustly convicted of a sex crime and has suffered the registry for nearly 20 years. As a result he has been violated for simple oversites and servered over 4 years. We appealed the conviction but they say he waited too long. His lawyer failed to see there was no kit done and advised him to take a plea. So the scared 17 yr old took it. All he needs is his day in court to prove his inocence.

The same thing happened to my loved one. No evidence, the middle schooler had never been alone with the child, but they told him he would go to prison for the rest of his life if he didn't take the plea. He wasn't going to take it and wanted a jury trial, but the judge said it would be a bench trial because of his age, and the Judge already had decided he was guilty. He ended up taking the plea at the last minute because he was being charged as an adult. Once you take that plea, another trial is usually out of the question.

Basically the whole registry is punishment no matter how you want to slice it. It was included in your sentence, a fee was paid, $35 "one time fee, and then the $50 annual fee added later (which is illegal changing that). All the extra stipulations added were illegal. Basically the michigan sex registry is like an appartment complex. They said this initially, you pay 500 a month, but then 3 months down the road, the change it to 700 a month. In the end, all registrants will be released from this that were convicted before 2011. Also I believe the extra illegal fees imposed will be paid back or michigan will face another lawsuit. Any logical politician in Michigan who at the time was looking for voters, had to know this was illegal and would be years later overturned. They just did it at the time for votes. Because after all, whos gonna stick up for them?

    • @justinrabbitt9492
      @justinrabbitt9492 3 роки тому +5

Fully agree. No matter how much facts and truths are shown to those in power they just don't want to touch the sex offender laws despite knowing how insane as well as illegal they really are. It's to easy for them to use to get votes and the media to get ratings. It's all against basic human rights that the USA just throws out the window when it comes to sex offenders in general. Other felons don't have a registry nor restrictions as much as sex offenders of even low level offenses. The other felonies at least have a line that says it's all they have to do then they are free whereas sex offenders don't have a line that's the end of their sentence. For sex offenders on the registry it's a never emding circle of lifetime punishment and restrictions with no way of escape. Those who have been sitting on those seats of power for over 30 years sure as hell don't want to change things given they saw how they could get votes and money by using it to their own agendas.

@@justinrabbitt9492 On smaller sex offenses I can see your point. For instance: indecent exposure, illegal porn, certain consensual statutory situations, crimes where the victim was willing or not directly there. But if an adult used their position as an adult to abuse a child sexually, or you hold another human down to abuse them in their most sacred areas, or you use a weapon to do so, I think everyone should know who that person is. And if that’s against the law then let me be the first to say let’s make it a life without possibility of parole sentence, or save the tax payer and to death row. To pretend that a bank robber, or a crime of passion murder, or manslaughter, is the same as stalking a human, that you know you can overpower to gratify yourself with sexually is disingenuous. They are not the same, the sexual deviant is far worse. And before you think I’m saying it’s worse than murder, I did not. I chose my words carefully and said a murder of passion, or an accident. Pre meditated murders usually will not get out for a very long time if ever. But I will rank them 1A and 1B with some sexual crimes being worse than murder yes. I don’t see how it’s against basic human rights. Anyone convicted of a felony comes up on a background check. I have no issue of the idea if you deprived others of their basic human rights, than there are some rights you never get back. Sorry. To end as I said above I can see your point with lesser sex crimes.

i will tell you from mypersonal experience , i live in florida probably one of the toughest sex offender laws in the country , i was convicted over 18 years ago it was rough i had no support and i lived homeless for a while but i survived it found a job in a kitchen because kitchens dont care about your back ground for minum wage jobs i built and saved my money i live in a tent till i had enough to get a place then i worked on a car that was a fiasco here as well it took me most of ten years to get all this without getting arrested or getting a charge , what i have learned from all this is society doesnt want me and i apprently dont need them either i roll with whatever new punishment they come up with i survive .i am almost 50 years old and i work out daily not for health reasons but because i fear and know someday someone will try and hunt me down and do harm to me , my realtionships and social groups are small on the number 5 to 6 people . So my over all point is registries and the laws that go with it is it makes me worse not better and to be honest if i wanted to do something , which i dont , that registry wouldnt stop me anyway so does it work not really

No one , according to our constitution should have their natural rights taken away , be placed on a public registry or be punished even more after they have completed their sentence / requirements . Also if someone moves from one state to another, after the completion of sentence , they should not be punished again by being placed on that states registry . Especially since they are no longer on the original states registry !

Most people wouldn't like it if their house was devalued by a hundred thousand dollars because a sex offender moved in next door. This madness has to stop. The punishment is bleeding over to everyone.

Never convicted anywhere in the u.s. yet put on the registry as a habitual offender and have been on this since 2007. Ive never been charged once let alone as a habitual offender yet thos is my listing and this is why im a teir 3. This has caused me to lose my children. The state has removed my parental rights in 2015 to be a father to my children. Ive been marched out of towns, where even though i was homeless, i was marched out of towns by people with guns, ive had my truck tires loosened with the intent to cause me harm, ive been harrassed by police and prosecutors filing charges against me for multiple failure to register charges even though i kept my registry compliant and the only changes occured due to legislative changes. My life has been destroyed by this list and my children believe me to be a monster, their is no hope for removal for me as i have no court of adjudication for me to appeal to for removal which is a primary requirement for removal. Ive been on this list since 2007 its now 2023 and again im under failure to register charges for trying to comply with the orders by judge cleland which, to my understanding verification was suspended for the duration of the covid pandemic and the covid pandemic was ended on may 11 yet a local prosecutor is charging me who was at one point my own public defender for the exact same charges in 2007 to which that judge saw my dilema and ruled in my favor dissmissing my case with prejudice after i had to fire said public defender because he was being elected as county prosecutor and used that pretext of elected official to try and get me to plead to 24 years for failure to registure when the changes in 2016 caused me to be in violation even though i was verifying up to two and three times a month due to being homeless. Im not an offender, i was never charged tried sentenced or convicted for any sex crime anywhere in america yet im listed as a habitual offender with no recourse to remove my name.

The type of crimes they commit mean they crossed a line that they cant uncross, and people and communities need be protected from these animals. A man robs a store, does his time, and asks for redemption, he deserves a second chance and the ability to live without public monitoring. A man that does things to a child to unspeakable to type, NOPE. No second chances, no redemption, they crossed the Rubicon. Personally, I'd never even let them back into society so there wouldn't be a need for a registry.

I am a human being that made a mistake and I was punished and I have no problem with that. The only thing I have wrong against the registry is that it is public I don't mind the police knowing where I am at all times. But when you lay us out there as a Target for all these vigilantes that think that they're crimes that they have or haven't been caught for or better than anyone else. I pray always for anyone who is on the registry because it is a hard road to tow. My final words are I offended one time so that makes me more human than an offender.

The problem is that "sex offender" is now a much broader term than it used to be. They are too many people on the registry who don't need to be. Even misdemeanors where the offender didn't have to serve any jail time can be included in the registry. This overburdens law enforcement agencies who have to monitor them, making it easier for the more dangerous offenders to slip through the cracks

  • @joncokejones8710

No way, people should have a right to know who moves into their neighborhoods. These people are getting exposed every day on social media trying to lure minors to meet in public places, all of those rights such as privacy are non negotiable when you commit a sexual offense. However what they need to do is clean up the registry. For example urinating in public at least 13 states have laws against this, flashing or streaking you can get an indecent exposure and require registration, and visiting a prostitute to name a few. Those people are the one's who are really being affected that you should be really trying to help.

Seeing this is very informative and I pray every human being will eventually see the truth. The part about every person in politics all know that the registry, restrictions, and laws are wrong yet nobody is willing to stand up to say it just proves how the entire system is corrupt. All those in career politician seats of power and legislature just want to keep there positions. Nobody wants to be seen as a supporter of sex offenders when in truth it's just standing up for human decency given how the laws plus the registry does more harm than good. Tons of studies have been done backed by scientific facts of how the stuff claimed over 20 years ago when the laws were made are all just lies to fuel fear and make newer draconian restrictions based off emotions rather than common sense. The registry is just getting larger to the point where possibly it's possibly an entire state or mores worth of people with nowhere to go besides back to jail. Having constant hurdles to try to jump thru at every turn to "be a good person" just makes it more insane when other felons like murderers as well as drug dealers all don't have to go thru even a fraction of the insanity sex offenders do to even try to make a living. Murders, drug dealers, violent abusers, repeat drunks, ECT all have been praised in public eyes if they turn their lives around making positive impacts reintegrating into society again. Yet for those on the registry society deems them all unworthy to ever reintegrate even before a conviction and the laws just make it more impossible to live. Getting menial labor jobs, living far on outskirts of cities if ones lucky to not just emd up homeless, friends n family getting harassed for knowing you, and the fear of being hunted by vigilantes just cause they saw all your personal info online then having that wmotional trigger go off thinking you are the worst of the worst. People need to be better educated, term limits need to be set on all those in politics as well as legislation, the media needs to stop blowing cases way out of proportion even before a trial, the registry needs to go away forever, and humanity needs to learn to let everyone reintegrate back into society after time served. Make support groups for vicyims, help groups for those on probation, more true second chance companies for better employment, and maybe even put the money that's wasted on the registry towards funding it all.

How does this shape the mind of a registrant? Is the registrant just as repulsed as everyone else? We live in a society of repulsion. It paints a grim picture.

As you all have stated many times in many different ways, those local and federal politicians who have the power to eliminate these draconian, Scarlet Letter equivalent laws are afraid that they will not be re-elected or what their constituents will think of them if they speak up. The only thing that could possibly change that is wonderful, thoughtful, intelligent and knowledgeable people like you going public.

it shouldn't be a sex offenders list, it should be a violent crimes list and it isn't a sex crime, its theft when its under age, which means its not parental consent. It should not be a social justice where the hole community gets involved, as that person has served their punishment, therefore its over, and we being a republic, it is not constitutional to treat one group differently than the rest, when killers get set free. So to be socially acceptable it is much better to make a violent crimes list. This in turn goes back to the juvenile court system which does not work, it should be boot camp, because then they will think twice about becoming a repeat offender. This in turn is subject to single parents and using the school system as the babysitter so that single parents can work, so to solve that, there should be included within the school system everywhere to watch the children, even though our school had it. This in turn is adding things to our school system, and that in turn is because boys and girls are put into the same schools, the hole school system should be scrapped, and private school put into place, and still have the government funding for that. In this day and age school can be done online, as those teacher who are very good, and get good results, can teach and make money through videos. We all know the influence place on children by activist, we should have seen that with the prohibition.

Yes it's time we stop calling people "sex offenders" or stop calling people " predators" too and start calling them "registered sex residents". It's time we stop marginalizing people and stop treating them like like they not even human beings. We all mistakes in our lives and paid our debt to society, and the punishment shouldn't have to keep continuing on by putting people on a stupid public registry. It's time we stop discriminating someone for something that happened in their past and move on. It's sad that a person who was drunk ends up on a sex offender registry for life for simple public urination. And is all lumped up into one boat. Where do we draw the line and say "enoughs enough" by just throwing people on the sex offender registry for small sex offences??

A stop should have a legal basis for its end. I cant express enough that laws inflicted on those on the registry violate Constitutional Protections of both State and Federal Constitutions across the country. Giving a drivers license to police representatives at the door and at the Office of Public Protection violates ones dight to be secure in their papers. Answering the door to Police Represenystives for checking address and license verification violates ones right to be secure in their papers as well as their right to be free from government search and seizure. Being required to attend to the Police Barracks for periodic registration violates ones right to be free from illegal seizure. Printing ones information on the internet violates ones right to security in their home. Printing ones information on the internet violates ones right to be safe in ones life-as printing this information has given way to vigilante attacks that the government is responsible for. The list goes on. Fear, shame, etc. "Any law repugnant to the Constitution is null and void" Marbury vs. Madison 5 US (Cranch) 137, 161, 167. Justice Marshall did not limit or set a degree of law that he declared null and void. He stated "Any law.....bill and void." How has our govetnment/s allowed such diabolical powers to entrench themselves into our American civil/criminal law system? Will anyone ever argue that Violating the Constitution is illegal? Will any Judge ever come to his/her senses? It should not take money to buy Constitutional protections. It should take blind justice to know when the sun is shining.

It is not just that they dont work. Lets get real here. They are punishment and states Assemblys know that. Judges are brain-dead about the topic. I need these public offender registries taken away. Here is why.
Say a person who is 25 years of age (age of majority) has sexual intercourse without violence on a 14-year-old, and that older person gets caught, arrested and prosecuted for indecent assault of a child--technically statutory rape.
But because of the "rape" word, and rape is a type of sexual assault or--in some cases--severely indecent assault, that 25-year-old person will likely be on the sex offender registry as a Tier 3---aka a "violent sexual predator"--for life---EVEN IF THAT CHARGED PERSON DID NOT DO ANYTHING FORCIBLE! Tier 3 is the worst of the worst you can get when you are a sex offender. When you are in Tier 3--you are considered a "chomo", even if the sex crime you are caught red-handed is the least gross ones.
And if you urinate on the public beach in front of children, you can also be on a Tier 3 registry for life upon being charged! Even if you never gratify your penis at all, this will still be indecent exposure to a lot of prosecutors--which is a registrable offense. One charged with indecent exposure SHOULD INSTEAD PLEA TO A NON-REGISTRABLE OFFENSE OF PUBLIC URINATION, which is usually not a "registrable offense" like indecent exposure is!
The registries subject you not only to severe legal limitations on where you can live or meet up with or move, you are subject to being hated by EVERYONE! Even your friends, and even blood relatives will disown you (especially if the blood relatives charge you with sodomy, which is a registrable offense also!). You could also be marked for death and/or get death threats by phone, mail, email, etc....
    See what I mean?
Sex offender registries public-wise is cruel and unusual punishment on the ones registered, and that is why I want them struck down.

    • @charlessmith263
      @charlessmith263 Рік тому +1

Another example - say you are a sex offender in Florida's Miami-Dade County, and you are told that you are banned from living within 2,500 feet of a K-12 school where children congregate. What can happen to you? You will be severely shamed and very likely homeless! This decree was actually passed in 2005, and it was devised by Ron Book, whose relative, Lauren Book, was sexually abused for a long time by Waldina Flores--her nanny. Technically, this new sex offender law is called Lauren Book's law. Still this is the worst residency restriction ever on the books of any other county that has sex registration laws/rules in the United States!!!

I would like to tell my story briefly, I am one of the first group of children to be placed on Megan’s law in 1994 For lifting up a girl skirt at school I just turned 14 years old . I am now 43 years old which means I been on there for 30 years . I was forced to drop out of school in the 8th grade because of this and I choose to work instead. I choose to learn about Glass which is called a Glazier and I am one of the best Glaziers in the country. Why have I been on there so long is the million dollar question ? At the age of 18 I had consensual sex with a 14 year old who told me she was 17 , she got pregnant and that’s how my name came up. I was arrested and was told her real age. I did 2 years in prison and was released in 2003 I then found out I would have to be on Megan’s law for 15 years with a parole officer and was given dozens of Unhuman rules , requirements and restrictions I was completely shocked. I Did about 7 years and they found out I was one of the top 10 charcoal artists in the country and just opened my own Glass company LLC . I was starting to make the papers from my art so they took me off the registry but kept me on supervised psl. I ended up doing 15 years on parole or Psl as they call it and the most I got was a small motor vehicle ticket in all that time. I was easily removed from the psl after 15 years which was 2018 , my lawyer was fighting for me to be removed from Megan’s law all together but the court said hey remember when u were 14 and lifted a girl skirt up ? Well we are not removing u off . That made me stronger to be even more successful, so I started more businesses and always stayed as a Glazier to the point where I became so good no matter what glass company I worked for I was the highest paid employee. I was never fired from a job because of this , I never was turned down from a job , I was never denied a apartment or house. I have horror stories from life on psl and I mean horror stories. I would like to tell those stories along with how I beat them and didn’t fail in life and right now I am extremely successful. I earn a 6 figure salary, I had No problems since I been removed from Psl until Now . I had a opportunity in Arizona where I can double my success and the NJ detective found out and violated me for leaving NJ and not telling Arizona police that I was there to work within 10 days smh . I am pissed that Law does Not want anyone on Megan’s law to be successful. I have a story where a police officer tried to set me up in NJ for crimes he knew I didn’t commit and if I didn’t have the money or resources I would have went back to jail and everything I done would have been wasted. But I out smarted him and hired a private investigator and he got the truth and all charges was dropped with a apology from the judge I have that report right now in my icould that I want to make public a long with all the illegal stuff I seen in these past 30 years . I have stories and proof that will raise so many eyebrows my email is alluniqueconstruction@gmail.com

I find it just cruel since its nearly impossible for those on the registry to get a decent job that pays a living wage. The system is basically making them take money away from food and housing to pay for their information to be put online where nobody besides law enforcement need to see it. If those that can't afford it I'm sure end up back in prison for technical violations which even that's a whole other can of worms is the insane technical violations. As a whole the system is messed up, the laws around sex offenders are a violation of human rights, the registry doesn't help anyone, and the job market needs to change to allow sex offenders who have paid their debt to get a job if they have the skills. If the company only hires adults and has no direct contact with anyone under age then they should be allowed chances to work, not just a second chance but multiple chances to reintegrate into society.

More ignorant people trying so hard to will their misinformation onto other people. I think you should be followed, people wanting the registry are usually the ones who need investigated. Weirdo.

The registry should never be abolished . It is very useful to deter child molesters . My polite input before you remove my post. Best wishes.

@@safeandjustmi An elderly man moved nearby. Suddenly his dog waste is everywhere and continous barking. He would mock animal control, destroyed landscape, teen boys visiting and sleeping over, drugs, obnoxious use of racial slurs. Loud. Insults to neighbors. Then one day I googled his name and sure enough Megans list. I informed an agency about him. Same afternoon three police officers paid him a visit. He realized he was exposed as a sex offender from another state. At once everything changed, Any disturbance or visit by a teen brought a cop to his door. Long story short it became quiet. He is terrified when he sees me. We owe our peace and quiet to Megans list registry. Sorry , my experience showed me it is something that I should advocate for.

@@davidbell8401 and was he arrested for doing anything illegal? No? Then you didn't get anywhere with Megan's list but to harass him? You are the problem with having the registry public. Good job.

@@davidbell8401 My guess is that you are an absolute hypocrite. We should follow you around and turn you into the police for EVERY single thing you do that’s illegal. Uninformed ignorant people are FAR more dangerous than any other type.

Also genius, explain the low recidivism rates? All actual information points to your opinion being dumb.
