- Syrp Magic Carpet Pro Slider. Solid. Smooth. Great price. I have only had this for 2 days so I cannot speak to the long term durability, but it does feel very nice. very solid. light weight. infinitely extendable. could be a good option if you need a camera slider.

I’d recommend Matthews slider stands, or similar, with junior pins to 3/8-16 or to mount it on strong sticks with support on one or both ends. There are multiple end support options, and as mentioned.. apple boxes are often times a slider’s best friend!

@jakebayar too much traffic. We are back now. 😇
Can we just acknowledge: big window light, color contrast, nice DOF. Your stuff looks so great, mate.
Thank you thank you 😇
Been saying the is for the longest time, that deal zone was probably the greatest purchase any filmmaker could make to elevate their craft
Such a wild one!
This is a great video about a great camera slider
And you are a great person
Really out of my range but I loved the video and all the interjections you added to clarify things, love the style.
Thank you! Yes the price is still steep. I’d say this could be a contender if one was considering the 5k ish range slider. Could save some money with this and still have something solid.
Love that wide shot, so 70's mood.
Need the same glasses.
Best Audiio advertisement ever (this one i could not skip it, Smart Bagel Man).
Very nice product presentation, very 'Blainish' = efficient, straight to the point.
But, got to admit I missed the dog on the sofa ;)
Thank you thank you Hugo! Love the wide shot 😇. I’ll make sure there is a dog in the next one. Just for you.
The grade fills with so high quality ❤
Thank you :)
i love your humor :D
😂😇thank you
6:12 remember to losen the wheel after use and for storage or you might end up with deformed wheels due to constant pressure in one spot, which will result in a bumpy ride. There should be a sticker next to the wheel that reminds you as well👍🏻
Ooo good tip. Wait does that wheel adjust the 4 wheels on the pipe? Or is it for the fly wheel?
@@BlaineWestropp1 it tensions the wheels against the pipe. So it‘s best practice to losen before storing it👍🏻
I'm dead at the name🤣
😂😂 cracked myself up with that one
This video is sick
Thank you 😊😊
I've had this slider for over 3 years now, so far durability is 100%. Smoothest movements I've experienced with smaller less expensive slider tracks (the inertia wheel is so good for manual operation) The modular linear electronic motor is great but pan is a bit wonky (does not sync equally with the linear movements over time).
this is good to know! I have used the slider on 2 shoots so far and it worked great! also good to know about the motor, thank you!
God knows I love the OGbmpcc but I was expecting your Arri mini to teleport when you clicked. 😢
Still love you tho, Blaine.❤
I’ll teleport that one next 😂😂
I've had this slider for a few years, and I love it. The name was wonky, so I was skeptical. Now, I am a Syrp groupie. Once you roll your camera on this thing, you can kind of guess why they came up with the name. Now, when I eat waffles, I think of my slider. I wish the extension wasn't SO expensive, as I don't have that.
lol to the waffles. I believe the 2 foot extension is $100 right now.. check BH.
@@BlaineWestropp1 Got the 2 footer extension after I saw your vid. Then, I opened mine up and found that my brake level was broken. Emailed Syrp.
@@HeliopausePictures oh gosh. That ain’t good.. I really hope they help you solve it. Where did you buy from?
@@BlaineWestropp1 I hope so. I don't know why they wouldn't. I bought it from B&H in 2021. I would happily pay a reasonable fee for the repair, or perhaps they can send me the part if it's a DIY project.
Ah yeah I assume they will sort it out for you or send you a new one. Let me know what happens.
you already know what im naming my next pet.
😂😂😂
this is indeed a great camera slider
I am liking it :)
I did a long term durability test on this product. Unfortunately the latches on those detachable feet bend and stop locking tight enough overtime. After a couple years of use, my feet just fall out of the sides and risk my camera sliding away. I’m referring to the part shown at 3:06. Their product support didn’t offer me any help. It was a really great slider while it lasted.
I have found that as you rotate the feet, they screw in and out, like a screw. so if you go too many times clockwise, the latches will not lock down. if you go too many times counter clockwise, they will be too loose. odd design, but knowing that helps me to keep them in place and working. that said, I havent had this slider for long enough to really know.
@@BlaineWestropp1 thanks for the reply!
I just picked up our 36” pro for $199 from BH deal. Crazy deal…. Not sure if I discovered a glitch but I snagged that baby and wow have I been so excited.
I did the same! nuts!
Purchased this slider few months ago and really like it! A great adapter is the Leofoto LB-75 cause it allows you to level out the flat base tripod head. I will check out those matthews slider stands, they look like a great fit 👌🏽
btw get some proper sleep, the sunglasses won’t help cover up your ridiculous screen time in the long run 😂
Time to rest. Been grinding. I will look into the LB-75. Thank you! I think Apple boxes are really the best. Even with Matthews stands.. you can technically wobble left/right. They are just an easy option to change height. Apple boxes and wedges are the most solid and I think my favorite move for a slider.
@@BlaineWestropp1got you! will try it out with apple boxes but then again would need to buy or build a separate cart for carrying enough with me 😅
With the OG BMPCC, love it. I still have mine too, got it in that B&H $500 flash sale in June 2014 haha
Oh wow! How is it holding up?!
@@BlaineWestropp1 It’s still good! I’m really careful with my personal cameras, I’m a 1st AC so the micro HDMI still works perfectly haha It just has the usual old problems once the firmware updates stopped, FPN in lowlight at 1600, pretty sensitive/intense moire in RAW and the usual physical quirks. But you know, once that stuff is dialed and you’re careful with the rest it’s good to go! I’m always tempted to sell it, but I just love the Cinema DNG and the look from the cam so I keep it around. Most of my recent personal shoots on my channel were shot on Sony FX cams but I still find myself going back to the BMPCC OG for fun stuff
Have same slider - do love it - I bought 2 “ KUPO KS-097 Baby Ballhead Adapter With 3/8'' Male Thread And 5/8'' Receiver” so I can put into two lowboy combos like a Dana dolly setup rather that the double tripod
love it!!
I have one , it’s great .
I like it
Ooh I bought that one recently! Gotta get those slider stand low boys cause it's a pain in the ass using it on a tripod with supports
I'm also tired of having to undo the screw for my fluid head, because it's not a spare one so I got to put it back whenever I'm shooting on sticks. A bowl mount riser seems nice but I think it will negatively affect the smoothness since the center of gravity will now be higher
Yep it is a pain with the tripods. Unless you need it really high.. Apple boxes and wedges are the move. Also agree with you on the bowl mount riser. But, one thing that does help with is to get the camera higher so you don’t see the slider in the shot on wider angle push ins or pull outs.
I used one once for a commercial and it had a veeeery annoying small bump, impossible to get rid of in the moment and we could'nt find the cause. I think it's where it goes over the joint. I was using the Laowa probe lens so all the movement and bumps were very noticeable of course. It did feel very well built though. Thanks for the video! cheers!
Ughh hate this. I need to test further..
@@BlaineWestropp1 yeah let us know how it goes 👍🏼
this was a solid review. what lens did you use to shoot this!?
Thank you! It was an atlas mercury 42! There’s a small chance it was the 36. I can confirm in a bit! Love those lenses.
maple syrup magic carpet is how i got to new york to see you
😂😂😂
Nice! From another video I read that when you connect the extension piece there's a 'jump/bump' at the junction. Have you experienced this?
Mine is pretty smooth.. but a lot of people say they see a bump in the footage which is unfortunate, though a light bump on a slider is so easily warp stabilizeable, but still would rather not have a bump. I just don’t know what other solutions exist in this price range
Just picked up the 3ft magic carpet pro off that $200 deal zone last week! Insane deal for such a solid piece of gear.
Same actually I was so upset when I saw it was sold out before my checks from a previous client had cleared but then I checked again the next day and they had got another batch of them. I guessed overnight. I bought me one and now I have it. And it is just the smoothest nicest thing. And the best thing is, I don't even use it with a fluid head. Because I run a ronin 4d So I can just use the built in p.T z functionality And it makes it even more smooth than if I would have used a fluid head. And it saves me $200 on buying a flat bottom fluid Head cuz I don't have one
same.. then the 2 foot extension for $100. wild. the 2 foot extension is still $100 at BH: bhpho.to/4faTWQf
ooo a 4d on this slider is a hot combo I imagine!
@@BlaineWestropp1 oh snap thanks for the heads up! Just picked that up as well haha.
just saw the Impact slider stands are on sale for $200, might want to pick those up instead of the Matthews if you haven't already!
I've been so frustrated by all the motorized slider options out there, thanks for posting some good ol fashioned manual slider content.
70lbs payload capacity too! Not bad!
🫡 same. I really do like this one.
yes the 70lbs is great!
I’ve had this slider for about 4 years. Love it. Only complaint is that I feel like the stands or tripods mounting via 3/8 screw can sometimes feel a little unsteady with heavier packages. I’m used to dana dolly supports that feel rock solid. Maybe there is a solution that would help but I haven’t found it
this is where apple boxes and wedges are very nice. this is also where the higher end sliders excel because they mount to a Mitchell mount which is extremely wide and flat compared to any other mount. if you have a heavier, taller rig, I would go with apple boxes to reduce any roll in the rig
I’ve used one of these for a few years, it’s very good. Not used with slider stands, but may try that. The feet do suck though.
I think apple boxes are my favorite way.. but then you need to bring around at least 4 extra apple boxes. what sucks about the feet? I have only tested this briefly.
@@BlaineWestropp1 I’ve just found it hard to get them all at the right level, also over time quite a bit of play has developed in one corner, probably just needs a bit of maintenance.
oh which lenses did you use the look is amazing!
Thank you! This was shot on Alexa mini LF and atlas mercury 36 or 42. Most likely a 42. Could confirm that soon!
@@BlaineWestropp1 *chefs kiss* awesome. That looks beautiful!
As I said to Thomas, for that price is a no brainer!! 🙂
Yuuuup. The original deal zone $200 was obviously a no brainer. I still think $1000 is good but only if you really need it. People are reporting a small bump when it goes over the seam :/
@@BlaineWestropp1 I still have the non Pro which has some problems with the wheels, or tracks. Even if I cleaned them it's always a bit bumpy... So happy with the Dana spinoff from proaim, skateboard wheels 4 president!
I have issues where the extension connects, there is always a slight bump which can be seen in the footage. Huge bummer. I bought the 2ft extensions which are only $99, but the two together aren't smooth. Love the channel though!
hey thanks. and yeah that is a bummer. I did not notice a bump but a lot of people are telling me this which is unfortunate. I would say that if you stabilize in post it'll fix it right up. still annoying though..
What I realized over time, is that the connectors on both ends get lose while moving around on set. Nothing to worry about, just have it in mind and check it once an then, but definetly something to be aware of.
Ah interesting. Good to know! Thank you!
We use that slider for a lot of projects. But we encountered a problem. Where those two rails connect we always have a little bump when sliding over that position. And we tried a lot of different settings and configurations. Do you have that issue too?
ooo I dont like the sound of that. one thing it could be is that rubber track. does it line up smoothly? I dont think mine has a bump when going over it. in the past when I have had non perfect slider shots I have stabilized in post and had perfect results as you are giving it an already 95% smooth shot.
@@BlaineWestropp1 you could be right and it might be the rubber-guide on the inside. I will have to check that out. But the little bump was right there from the start and we always had those rails best aligned to our ability. But i mean it is the tiniest of bumps. Maybe it got exaggerated because our sachtler head and camera sits quite the distance above the silder-baseplate. Stabilization did the trick for us too.
Love all your videos btw. Really good resources.
I have a slider, albeit smaller. I was wondering whether gimbals rendered them obsolete.
They are both useful. A slider will get you smaller more precise moves, and a gimbal will get you longer less precise moves. A gimbal can be good for following someone walking down the street. A slider can be good for an establishing shot with a slow perfect creep in.
Do you feel the bump when passing the joint in the connection ?
I didn’t. Wonder if it has to do with how you “tune” the wheels.
Legit first frame, sunglasses slider. F1.
😇😎
1:35 have it for about a year and a half and it’s still going. No issues so far
This makes me happy :)
The 48" slider is $200 today on b&h. I might have just bought it 🙄
Your review played a big part in that ...
Before it ships.. check the details. Is it the 11 pound payload version? :/
@@BlaineWestropp1 yes it is.
Is that the right one?
Sorry for delay. The one in this video was the 75 pound payload version.
the non pro version is on sale for $650 off rn with two 24” extensions
Saw this!
@@BlaineWestropp1 was about to pull the trigger but the payload is only 11 pounds on that version and thats just a little light for me to justify even $200 on
blaine, with the deal zone price how much did you pay? also have you ever seen the same item going back on deal zone? i really want it but would hate to pay more than i should. thanks for everything chief!
Hey! Wildly, I paid $200. I have since seen it go back to $200, and I have seen it at around $600. Also on BH sometimes it’s confusing bc their “mini” version looks identical in photos and that is also fluctuating on sale. Mini holds 11 pounds, the one I snagged holds 70. Is just keep an eye out. Also, people complaining about the latches breaking and there being a bump when rolling over the extension seam FYI.
@@BlaineWestropp1 appreciate you! no gate keeping here! have a good one boss
ok but what if i am very steady and walk in a straight line with my rs3
Possible.. maybe.. hard.. yes
@@BlaineWestropp1 sorry i was typing while you answered
my honest take on sliders: if you are shooting low budget commercials or whatever on a bmpcc, fx3, even fx6, this kind of setup, i don't think the money you spend on a slider, and especially the time you need to setup and unsetup is worth your time and money. i will keep the camera on my ronin rs3 and have a slow movement and the result will be very similar, i will have my little travelling.
especially carrying everything, sometimes you want to be able to fit your whole setup in a backpack. i understand some people like to impress to clients with a fully rigged out fx6 and a bunch a accessories, so believe in that case a slider can do the trick. but you must be very well paid for your time...
sliders, or rails, become a must i believe when you are on slightly bigger productions, well because good luck trying to balance a SR2 on a ronin. so yes in that case sliders become a must for steady travelling shots. but, then it's probably more espensive sliders/rails right?
i think there's a reason why i never see anyone use sliders at low-budget
maybe in studio work?
happy to discuss
Manfrotto bought Syrp and are killing it off. The little latches- aren’t metal- and break. The motion control devices- no more support. Just be aware.
ughh hate hearing that about the latches. was wondering why this came in a manfrotto box.
See I use a ronin 4d .And this slider works perfectly With the camera, I mean, in chef's kiss level amazing.I don't have to worry about buying a fluid head because it's already a ptz I don't have to worry about the slider being level because the Ronan's p. TZ will automatically level itself.
I do luxury real estate. And I've been wanting to do some more smooth. Push INS and pull out that. Don't have you know that little micro jitter that you get when you use any gimbal system at all. Because you're not taking a perfectly straight path And this let me do it for 200 bucks. F****** ridiculous
absolutely crazy! such a cool combo!
I feel sliders are so under utilised since gimbals became the main stay. Though they dont give the same movement or motivation to a shot. Lovely slow track with audio could see that in a movie jusy has gravitas
Yep agreed. Fisher dollies really are the nice move, but can’t always fit one into the mix so having a slider is super useful. Love a slow track or push! Also one of the hardest moves on a gimbal is a dolly like push in.. it’s fine to follow someone walking
I can attest to that. The slider is actually amazing👌🏻kessler is also great. Atlas Sliders are around 200 a day to rent and they have the same software glitches as all the others.
Manfrotto really hit the mark here. Quality is top and the price is absolutely fair for what you get. Love the build jn flywheel and no dangling cords👍🏻
Love it!!
Would you do you get this instead of a dolly
id take a fisher dolly over a slider for a lot of work. but sometimes that can't happen do to location. I consider the slider an option for when you can't use a dolly.
i farted into a bag of crisps.
Haha now this is a good one
