I completely agree with you that we should use and wear what we love and not wait for a “special” occasion. Lockdown really taught me that and when we were able to go out again I pulled out everything. I wear my designer shoes and handbags into the office and running errands. No more saving them for the future. One makeup item I was saving because you can’t get it anymore is the Tom Ford The Afternooner palette. It’s similar to the Chanel ones that just came out but so much better. It is back in my rotation and will use it up! Thanks for a great video!

It's a lazy Sunday morning here in Australia, yet I'm wearing fine jewellery on my ears, fingers, around my neck and diamond watch whilst still in my pj's. I'd much rather be using the items that I've scrimped and saved for than have them hidden in a cupboard or wardrobe. I recently re-packed my make-up for greater accessibility and will try to wear eye make-up and lipstick each day, despite not going out. I never have purchased anything for it to not be used. I will admit that the markings on lipsticks, or lack thereof, make it hard to use them more often. How many lipsticks are we going to open before finding the right shade? It's easier to grab something that we're familiar with, yet I am trying to remember the shades from the brands that I have. I prefer to only use certain brands that I thoroughly enjoy using and not at all interested in those that are harder to obtain or that I simply don't need due to being happier with what I use already. I own a tonne of clothes due to my interest in fashion from a very early age. I never buy anything that I don't intend on wearing into the future and the same goes for footwear, accessories and jewellery. Sure, I own far too much, yet I do have personal reasons for this. I have also purchased extremely responsibly over the years, with the majority of what I purchase being heavily reduced. None of us should feel bad for buying what we like and makes us happy, although we should act in a responsible manner when doing so. I feel I have a good balance in my life with how I spend and I'm fine with this. Not everyone is blessed with the type of life they dreamt of from an early age and find other ways in which to compensate. What I have makes me happy and this will have to suffice. I never grew up wealthy, but learnt to dress and present myself in a way that makes me look as if I did. It's due to principle that I won't buy high-end designer items and content to purchase from niche boutiques and my favourite footwear importer. Many of us are products of the environment we grew up in. If I want to wear a lovely necklace around the home or to the supermarket, why shouldn't I? What does it matter what anyone else thinks, as long as we're happy in ourselves. Jen, please use up the products that you have from brands that no longer exist. You're going to feel worse when these have to be thrown out, instead of using them up yourself. Ask yourself how you'd feel if I threw those items away right in front of you? Just due to looking at these products, won't make them come back into stock. Use them and get the joy from doing this. I personally despise waste and will endeavour to use all that I have. Time to put some make-up on now for my day on the lounge.🇦🇺💖👩🏼‍🎨

I love that Gucci rosy beige blush! It’s my go-to :) especially when I don’t want to wear bronzer in the winter, it’s such a nice “neutral.” Yes I think I forget about products I love because I’m a creature of habit and just grab the same thing everyday, especially if I’m in a rush. Good reminder to wear and use what we have now, and not save for a special occasion. Every day is special :)

You've reminded me to pull out that Olivia Palermo palette & use it! It truly is a stunning eyeshadow palette. I have a Giorgio Armani eye tint #46 that I love but it appears to be a discontinued shade. I decided to wear it & enjoy
as I don't want it to dry up or go bad. Makeup is meant to be used.

Excellent advice, yet again. I happen to have had stints of overbuying which seem to be linked to times I was working at Bloomingdale's. I have some older Laura Mercier palettes that I've incorporated into a project pan. I tend to use the hell out of a few items in a catergory and the rest sit untouched by human hands. I also have a bunch of the former Dior eyeshadow formula in the aforementioned condition. I also love cream eyeshadow (and blush) products. So, I'm always trying to use the older (old, ancient, so old) lovelies of those that I have before they go to product heaven. My love of makeup is a hobby that I enjoy the heck out of. I relish the personal time getting ready each morning. However, my slight or moderate overconsumption, depending on who you ask, is simply a first world problem that stems from my hobby. I try to keep the size of my collection manageable, but not at the expense of not having a product I really, really want.

Hi Jennifer! Thank you for sharing this makeup “intel.” I loved this video. With respect to the La Prairie foundation, which is making the YT rounds lately: I was counter manager for La Praire (at a Canadian retailer) when the foundation was launched decades ago (30 years or so!) and, in my SA experience, this foundation was frequently returned because it was best suited for non-oily, non-sensitive, un-textured and fine-pored skin. I used to discourage customers from purchasing it if they had large pores or oily/combination skin or rosacea. I am surprised that this (old) foundation is currently being hyped on YT , along with the La Prairie setting powder and the Sisley l’Orchidee blushes. Perhaps the new popularity of these luxury items has something to do with the fact they’re all talc-based - and being pushed out of the European market…? I am intrigued. Have a great weekend!

Thats so interesting!! I didnt know the foundation was making the rounds!
I noticed the Sisley blush was. I love that blush but admit I dont use that one often either. I think the talc idea is a distinct possibility.

    Hi Jen,
I think the idea is to not buy everything new under the sun if you are not makeup artist or influencer and when you buy use it and don’t collect for New Year’s party or weddings because it will cost you even more to treat infections. Some common sense never hearts. Things like: just one face, lifestyle, do we wear daily makeup or not, do we really wear “different” colour story makeup or we are conservative and buy something “different” just because an influencer tells us that neutrals are boring and we already have enough for sure, do we really have to spend a fortune for hundreds of brushes because we need them or we buy just because influencers who get them for free tell us to not miss them because they are so good and so on. Makeup products expire and the cream/liquid base products go bad much faster.
Regarding the packaging I can’t understand why people like heavy packaging. I have a powder from Westman Atelier and the fact it’s heavy annoying me. I don’t find practical to carry heavy stuff when I travel or daily basis in my hand bag or hold the heavy packaging when I put my makeup. I appreciate a nice design packaging, not flimsy and functional (easy to open/close, with a mirror etc) but heavy no way. Other thing is regarding little brushes included. Same people with contradictory opinions make me laugh: “such a luxury brand and put these useless brushes that make the product look cheap” and then “for this price tag it will be nice to put some brushes inside”.😂
For you or beauty UA-camrs in general is simple to understand why you can’t use all your makeup. I think if you want you can open tomorrow a little “Sephora” shop with what you have at home.😁 But if you are just a regular consumer and you have makeup you never touch maybe you bought too much?🤔😁 Or maybe you bought makeup that is not in line with your aesthetics or is not suitable for your skin or you bought online and in real life look different than in a bright light on camera when you watch the video on UA-cam.
Interesting topic and thanks for sharing!🙂

I can relate to this so much, my goodness! I have so many great products I don’t use for a really ridiculous reason - I have too much. I’m trying to restrain myself and not buy as much anymore, but of course I still get tempted. I also am trying to rotate what I have more so I’ll use more of what I have. Such an interesting topic, thank you!

I recently did that with my makeup...recently pulled things that are not my favorites (wrong color, dry formula, just not my vibe). Meanwhile, I have been enjoying my other makeup items and not feeling that urge to go and purchase the latest and greatest. Thank you, great video!!

I agree with you. I can’t wait for your video about the wardrobe and bags (how to mix old with new or have a capsule closet). :)
I have some makeup and clothes that I don't wear as often as I would like to ever since I gave birth... I just don't have time to do my makeup as I used to. :/ As for clothing, I am trying to use up as much stuff as I can, and I try not to buy a new one if I don't have to (I want to reduce my closet).

  • @DeborahCarlston
    @DeborahCarlston 25 днів тому

The biggest thing I had to realize, to start using up my stuff, is that makeup is Not collectible. Maybe for a few, like Lisa Eldridge, it is. But they're collecting really old things that belonged to famous dead people. Since I don't plan on dying anytime soon, and I suspect that is true of you as well, we might as well just use up what we have. I just tried on some lipsticks yesterday that had gone bad, because I didn't use them. So I am giving things away sooner, if I don't use them. And I'm pulling out the "special" limited edition and discontinued products that I love, and I'm using them. Then I get another thrill, on top of just having scored them. You look absolutely stunning in this video. I have no full coverage foundations, but I should get one just to look half as good on camera as you do now. Plus, I really like the necklace. I'd wear that with a button down, blazer and jeans for brunch out. Thanks for the video!💚

Having also been in the industry back in the day, I work my products differently. Each type of product has a drawer or container and i pull from them in order use it and then move it to a used container. My apparent OCD works to keep me using each product evenly. Foundation to lipstick it never gets to favorite over used status. Are there days i dread a product yep and so she may then get decluttered after one last go. It takes discipline but I have learned it keeps me honest and less wasteful.

Hi Jennifer, your Chanel necklace is stunning. But yes , Chanel kind of it’s too much, what I realized it kind of overshadow the style, especially if you pair those loud accessories, with Chanel outfit, it’s too stuffy, too pretty, So that’s why I got rid of almost all my Chanel, well still left some RTW, and a few accessories, bags, but majority gone, replaced with Old Celine. And Celine has too more loud chunky jewelry, but it’s still more understated , it adds to your personal style, not overpowers 🤔I am obsessed with Phoebe style, but when I see your necklace hmm I might going to regret 😳🤪😂😝 I always dress up, it comes from my roots, I am originally m from Eastern Europe, and everyone knows, that Russian girls ( even I am not Russian, but grew up in Soviet Union) , always dress up😜 my problem is, that I love more cooler weather fashion, well not SF. Long sleeves tops, sweaters, jackets, are not so wearable , and that sucks, it’s not great place for fashion…😂 La prairie foundation, was absolute fail for me, and now it makes sense , I bought maybe 7 years ago, for my birthday, it’s the last week of September, but was very hot and humid, and my look at the end of the night, was horrible, like mask separated. To begin with, it’s not that natural look that I like, so I got rid of it😂 Gucci rose beigy blush, I got as neutral to wear with red lipsticks, but shade was still too cool, I much prefer TF new cream blush cafe rose. It’s warmer, but still neutral. And yep, so much good makeup , that sometimes I forget that I have. I need better organization advise how to store all that makeup, Jennifer please make a video on that 🙏 Have a blessed day🙏❤️
