That vest is so perfect! Especially for a mom! My mom taught school for 30 years and she totally would have worn that every year especially dog side out 🙂 have a great time in Hawaii and can't wait to see the picture of your mom in her vest
What a great idea! Love the reversible vest! Tip for using a seam ripper to cut open buttonholes: put a pin crossways on the opposite side of the buttonhole from the side you are starting the cut from. That way if you slip, the pin will stop the seam ripper from cutting through the other side.
Hawaii!!!!!!!! You lucky gal! Your mom is going to love this vest; it's so darn cute, and she can wear it more often being reversible. Have the best time with your mom, xoxo's Sandie😊
A reversible vest sounds like a great idea. :) I hope your mother likes the vest too, knowing this is the first time I've seen you make something for someone else on this channel.
@@LadyRebeccaFashions I'm glad your mother liked the vest. :) So, I guess you and your mother will wear matching vests after you make one for yourself?
Reversible Vest. That was a great idea!! I bet your mom loved it. Enjoy your Hawaiian vacation. I really like the green blouse you had at the beginning of this video. It has a great design and the material is beautiful, where did you get it? I don't look great in green, but you do!
Perfect timing for this video! I've been thinking about making a reversible corset, and this shows me how easy it is to turn something reversible. I also have been staring at my machine's buttonhole foot afraid, so thanks for the surprise tutorial on that!
I'm glad it was helpful! For a reversible corset, I would take a slightly different approach, putting all the outer pieces together and inner pieces together, then sewing inner to outer right sides together at the front and back openings and turning them right sides out, and then sandwich the bones between the two layers, and bind the top and bottom edges. Good luck with your project!
@@LadyRebeccaFashions Thanks so much!!!! I have to work out some interfacing problems, but hopefully that shouldn't be too hard. :) Just getting into sewing and after watching some videos of people making corsets it seemed pretty simple. I made a mock up of a pattern found online using your videos to help me size it waaay up and it looks pretty good. I'm super excited to make one with pretty fabric. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!!!
I have turned more bag lined vests reversible then I can count! Its a great use of both sides. I have also experimented with button closure on reversible vests and I agree that it is harder to button. Then I watched a class on creative closures by a lady whose name I can't remember and she suggested making button holes in both sides and having a separate button placket that you move. This works great and requires half the buttons!
Cute vest! For safe buttonhole cutting with a seam ripper you can use a pin on the end of the buttonhole. This way the seam ripper will not go any further than you intended👍🏽
What a fun surprise for your mom! I think some of the big 4 pattern ranges leave out things like welt pockets because they are trying to simplify the patterns. Welt pockets are a more advanced technique that might be difficult to follow with only written instructions.
Those earrings are stunning with your hair and delightful with the gold decorations on this blouse. The plackets would add interest to a solid fabric, but I think they would be distracting with patterns.
I actually am planning a reversible vest, I've got the fabric for one side already and I'll be using my princess seamed bodice block to make it... I just need to figure out what the other side will be, and whether I'll have enough fabric to try my first foray into piping for around the edges. And figure out how to make pocketses for it.
Thanks! It's actually a green tulle dress from eshakti, and I love it! www.eshakti.com/shop/Dresses/Floral-embroidery-mesh-ruched-empire-dress-CL0091495
I'm waiting on fabric to arrive but I'm making my brother a Hobbit waistcoat. I found some fern green wool on sale and I'm using alpine green bemberg lining.
I have a pair of pants where they literally went through the effort of adding pockets and then sewing them closed 😂. I just cut them open and boom! Pockets!
@@makaylahaverluk667 a lot of suiting does that with welt pockets, both with menswear and womenswear. I think maybe because it looks nicer on a hanger with them closed?
love the vest, went to the community tab but it isn't up yet..I like the doggy side best....have a wonderful trip. maybe you can pick up some beautiful Hawaiian fabric...love those Hawaiian applique quilts....check them out if you can...
Thanks! We forgot to take a picture of her wearing it before leaving for Hawaii, so I'll have her send me one when she gets home. And we don't have a chance to go to a fabric store, but we did see some lovely quilts in a shop!
@@LadyRebeccaFashions don't you think the strong color applique design beautiful on those white backgrounds....at least those were the quilts I have seen....
@@LadyRebeccaFashions It has white with cheeries on one side, black with cherries on the other. The white is oddly a lighter fabric. I was worried the heavier fabric would dip below the lighter at the waistline if bag lined. So I tacked them together at the waistline inside. Then I treated both fabrics as one and used red bias tape to finish the edges per instructions. The hems are hemmed independently. It's a fun dress to wear, it gets lots of compliments. But the hems... oh the hems took forever. Lol.
I made a reversible vest for a hobbit-style outfit. It's such a fun way to switch up the look. I choose to bind the edges instead of bag lining though.

That dress! Perfect color and the sheer sleeves are wonderful. 💕
What a lucky Mom to have such a wonderful, talented daughter. And yes, thank you Butterick
Aww, thank you! ❤️
The tube tuner blew my mind. 🤯 And yes, sewing linings and outsides like that (the side seams) is very like a Mobius strip.
I love those tube turners. I've had mine for forever, and though I mostly only use the biggest tube in the pack, it's so useful!
So cute! Poe-esque on one side, whimsy on the other.

Fake pockets, why?😵💫How pointless and disappointing! If they are going to the trouble of making fake pockets they should just put in real ones.
