Did you really just invent a hood release mechanism that is in every car since 1950 and put it on the back?
You did.
Hey are you watching Two Stroke Stuffing’s channel? He’s making a run at Bonneville this year too. Interesting power plant you should definitely get some footage of his run. Good luck maniac
One time at band clamp…
It had to be said.
Trying to do my part to appease the algorithm
All hail the algorithm!
i want you
I'm doing my part
I’m trying licking it.
Viva algorithm!
Instead of using a spacer in the parachute tube with the smaller chute, fill up the void with glitter.
or a ham sandwich
@@generalee2010 Or a glitter sandwich
and snakes obvi.
amateurs never heard of glitter ham.
some extra hot sauce should make the car faster too
Fun fact. - People think Matt reuses the same still image of the Honda S600 for the outro, but In reality he go to the car and re-records it each week to show his fans exactly how much progress he's made with it in the last 7 days. :D
Obviously doesn't cord, his younger self does that work.
Exactly none?
@@althejazzman Every time. Stability and discipline 2nd and 3rd names.
I hope everyone considered the coefficient of friction of their sticker material before sending in their stickers!
A couple of layers of clear coat will take care of that 😂
@@jesperwall839And that clear coat may require more sanding.
@@ericfrentress8090 That clear coat will require sanding. How much sanding will be done? It depends how much patience Matt can muster ...
He needs a clear vinyl wrap after all the stickers go on. Solves the aero issue and makes it easier to clean.
@@bdkw1 It would be so nasty having to get vinyl into every crease of every sticker lol.
i love it when Matt casually pulls out the real real math to shut up all the youtube chair engineers screaming about safety and "thats not strong enough!!!" once in a while. Great to see you working on the landspeed car again i def still eyeing that viper in the background though. 👍
0:26 "It's because it's just more fun to do it that way." You say that like that isn't also the real reason the tech companies do it.
They 100% do it because of lack of intelligence.
Yup. Who does not like getting paid to blow stuff up ? Sure, the company owner, but ... he's in finance not tech :D
Facts
0:09 “Or Boeing who has the simpeler: Fail” 🤣🤣🤣
/venting noises/
Hey, that makes them the big bucks
Everyone who is male or has watched Casino Royal, fully appreciates the priority you're placing on not crushing your nads. Good call.
With a sustained 18G decel at least you wouldn't bleed out through them since all your blood's in your feet.
If you want to get something right, do it wrong first.
Best quote ever
It really is. Doing something right the first time can ultimately be a negative if you don't actually understand why you succeeded. Sometimes it's just dumb luck, and you don't want life or limb depending on dumb luck.
@@daedalus_20v Failures are lessons and successes are the rewards for applying those lessons 🤙
The fact you could say "or Boeing: FAIL" without looking around for their hitman was the best deadpan I've seen in quite a while! All Hail the Algorithm!
If you're supposed to do it wrong the first time, then if you do it right the first time does that mean you've still done it wrong? 🤔
Yes. Definitely
"Probably something catastrophic happening". Was waiting for Foreshadowing Matt to appear. 🤣
You learn more from your failures than your successes.
You so overestimate my ability to learn and explore hitherto unknown dimensions of failure on revision mark ii.
It's not that I'm incapable of learning/doing better. I just have more opportunities for something to catastrophically fail.
Better for all parties if the fates just rubber stamp it with a gimme.
Your ability to learn from your failures depends on your ability to gather information from your failures. That means adequate recording instruments and test parameters. The best thing you can get out of a failure without either of those things is that you can potentially clear up a lot of unknown unknowns and the questions that you didn't know you needed to ask.
Big problem with these videos is they’re too short, we want more !
All hail Al Gore's ithm.
Al Gore ithm of the night
“All Hail the Al Gore’s Rhythm” … 😂😂😂😂
Thanks for making me feel less alone in earthing a MIG welder only through the metal plating on a rare earth magnet, erm, once. I say once as you can't do it twice, at least not without another magnet...
The way the tail section slots in is really nice. And the superstructure for the solenoids was genius move. So clean. Looks like you took notes on “things that sucked” and iterating through them methodically.
Might want to monitor the temp on the solenoid side of the shield though
@@plwadodveeefdv He said he’s gonna wrap it. Should help with thermal management. Thankfully the solenoids are on the outside of the bridge thing.
For a quick easy exhaust disconnect, look at the Tri Clamp fittings from the dairy industry.
Easy to do, easy to safety wire, and they come in stainless.
Stork fittings?
There was this one time at band clamp.
EVERY time you remind us about that ham reinforced composite I want to scream! 😂
12:37 "If you want something done right, do it wrong first" absolutely beautiful quote, I need that on a t-shirt immediately.
For your quick disconnect exhaust, look at V-Band clamps. Usually used on turbocharger piping.
Your body will have a lot of imperfections that isn't in CAD that will add a lot to surface drag. So you might want to prioritize lowering surface drag over lowering pressure drag. DISCLAIMER: I don't actually know what I'm talking about but I think bit sounds reasonable, just might be worth looking into.
No, but stickers tho!
No worries, that's why he waxes himself and slathers himself in oil before each run. The byproduct is after the salt and oil mix, and he bakes in the desert sun, he is delicious.
@@12x2richterhe buys buckets of lard, it may be expensive but that is the cost of SPEED
Obviously you know Matt way better than I do.
In the pre NASA days my grandfather worked out at Cape Canaveral. They used to do that second method a LOT. I think he liked when things blew up
On the lockout safety pin for the parachute, mount a big red ribbon that says, remove before flight... :D :D
The intro monologue is so true. You just don't know what you don't know.
For the safety pin holes for the parachute, you could design a spring powered flap to cover/fill the hole when the pin is removed. Just a fun extra project
With my old Racecars, I’d make a part, set it aside, make another one, set it aside, and just keep doing that until I couldn’t make it any better anymore. This doesn’t work well for expensive things, and many times it got limited to two or three times, but it did make things better, almost as good as if I had paid a pro to do it and sometimes it even came through cheaper than the pro lol
For the cheeky algorithm: I tried to bribe it, but then it txted: what do you think I am, a supreme court justice?
The best part about Matt being super famous now, is I can skip the ads and not ruin the algorithm too much.
Such a underrated channel...
Love this! I have long thought that I know everything on my car is done the right way, because I did it the wrong way first to check', But "If you want something done right, do it wrong first" will fit on a t-shirt much better.
Since u dont want to fully sticker bomb the car, i think it would look kinda cool to have the driver canopy and surrounding area mirror the helmet of ur channel icon, it always reminds me of it.
The most solid of 'shutes.
An applause for Matt for making it better than the previous design👏
Wetted area is why sailplanes went to tadpole shape.
09:08 - "Then there was this one time, with Matt's Band Clamp...." 😏😉 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Your videos are genuinely entertaining, keep it up
👋👋👋 Hi thot bot!
"If you want something done right, do it wrong."
That's beautiful.
I'm really looking forward to seeing you take this thing out once it's done! I love your 'do it the DIY hard way' approach- that's like my Life's motto
Its always a good day when matt post
Lol "but enough about my dating life.."
Well played sir.
BTW the rear window on my project car has a Certified Good Enough sticker.
At first you don’t succeed, keep trying until it looks like you did succeed. Certified good enough!
Matt using air hose quick disconnects for the parachute cable disconnects reminds me of something similar I did in college. For an intro to engineering class, I used hose quick disconnects for attaching a golf bag trailer behind a bike. I screwed an eyebolt into the NPT threads until they locked together. The eyebolt was attached to another eyebolt to create a joint for the trailer. It worked great.
I love the quick math break downs to back your reasoning for things. It’s cool to learn the way you evaluate load on parts as you build.
"If you want something done right, do it wrong first"
Words to live by...
Thank you for making my day better with you build commentary.
Another hugely enjoyable video, thank you Matt. Also, I listened to the HP Academy podcast interview, fascinating and highly recommended to other SFM fans
love watching this build
these videos just keep getting better and better!!!
Thank you for doing what you do man. Its very inspiring how you tackle problems and get past them. Takes quite the man to be human these days. Much love!
That quick-disconnect for the chute cables is damn clever, would love to see more of that as it gets finalized.
5:14 -- When Matt talked about "friction drag" I immediately thought of covering the whole car in butter to help increase speed.
Delicious, delicious butter 😊
It's betta with butta
But all the butter was used on the ham sandwhitch
Matt, as always, you make my week with your content. Thank you.
2024 SCTA rule book. pg 41 "All non manual parachute release systems must also have a redundant, manual release as a back-up..." I hope to see you in Tech at Bonneville. And hear you ran well. Keep up the good work, if it was easy, everybody would be doing it.
I am really looking forward to seeing this machine go. I really like this show, and I'm not even that much of a gear head. My grandfather was an engineer, and he used to build and repair everything you can imagine. This show reminds me of him. He would have loved this stuff.
Lest the blasted albino's rhythm recommend another masterpiece to the appeased users of "UA-cam". All hail another good enough product.
I Love your Channel! Please keep up the wonderful work!
"Might not know what you want until you just go for it and find out...that's not actually what you want."
Precisely my feelings about the short exhaust I just installed on my motorcycle.
Keeping it real again, awesome progress 👌
another great one!!
I like that Superfastmatt uses motorbike parts like brake/ clutch cable adjusters in peculiar but useful ways!
Awesomeness as usual, love the new design!
As an engineer, I can tell you're an engineer when you do a calculation and summarise that calculation with "should" be good.
SuperFast publish I put like before watching
Matt, you've inspired me. Not to build a racecar, but to get a 6kw CNC laser cutter.
Great video Matt. You never disappoint.
AHhh! Another super episode! Thanks Matt!

You made it onto my favorite quotes list with "If you want something done right, do it wrong first" - SuperfastMatt 👍
Another good one Matt thanks .
For the exhaust connections I recommend something alike the bleed air pipe clamps on the 737. It’s 2 flens ends with a concave pipe end on one side. Then there is a clamp that holds the 2 flenses tight together. And with a copper or Alu gasket in between you have a quick detachable gas tight pipe.
Another great episode!
Looks like its coming along great. Can't wait for your first full speed run with bodywork.
All hail !!! Love it
As always, great content. Friction and tubes. Who knew that would make a wonderful video to watch.
Totally agree with the just try it mentality. I’m building an engine for my racing go kart right now and didn't have a clue what I was doing. Learned sooooo much building that. Although most of the lessons boil down to some variation of stop being cheep and just spend the money to get the right _____. Being a cheep bastard has its flaws. On the bright side I have some real shiny and expensive parts in my motor and some new tools. Also a lot more knowledge than I did before. Who knew valve lash was so important🤷♂️

Rock on mate.. rock on !!
"Smash my nads" is almost up to the level of the classic comment on the Folding Ideas video about being "racked in the nads," strong effort, keep going.
That latching mechanism is incredibly satisfying. Carbon fiber burning is incredibly unsatisfying. All hail the algorithm.
Learning through doing. I like it. I do it. "Planning as I go" I call it.
Remember you are not lost, only unaware of your surroundings 😊
It's so nice you did it twice
My NASCAR boss (back in the day) was showing is his Caterham kit at his house and dropped a live cable onto the carbon floor pan to similar effect. ⚡🔥
So proud
You need many more subscribers. I hope to see you making at least 10k a month on ads before the year is up.
Nice work Matt & like thw guys in my construction company say- "we do it nice cause we do it twice".
Have you thought about making it with golf ball dimples? It might reduce the air friction by creating a layer of air acting as a squishable sponge or it might make it a lot worse
Good stuff!
One thing to consider would be the center of gravity to center of pressure.
One of the first things learned in amateur rocketry is keeping the center of gravity in front of center of pressure will keep from random psychotic flipping and destruction at high speed 😊
If you wish to lessen friction drag then look at a golf ball and it's dimpling which will net one more mph as well as a decent percentage better mpg over the smoothe flat surfaces... 😮
"If you want something done right, do it wrong first" is going on my wall. Or at least into my mind.
The intro is even better when coming from a video about the hard coded API keys in the rabbit r1
That new parachute release is awesome!
All hail the algorithm.
I'm impressed All hail the algorithm
