@knowledge120Rags and humble beginnings are very different. The presidents you mentioned mostly lived a normal lifestyle (except Clinton and LBJ iirc) . No silver spoon but still average. Nixon’s family was poor.
Nixon is from bigger money than Kennedy. I've seen his Family photo of over 100, and Richard is the runt of that litter. I used to drive his Great Aunt to Bingo, and my Grandfather Homer Jaycox, aka, Morris Ankrum was BFF with Dwight D.

nixon was a quite charismatic character. when he debated with kennedy, the ones listening on the radio thought he won, but because the room was hot and he was sweating a little, the ones watching on tv thought kennedy won.
He was also dealing with an infected leg after injuring himself while campaigning in North Carolina beforehand. He wasn't fully healed come debate time.

Honestly, I disagree. When I listen to Nixon what comes across is his intelligence and organization of thought. Charisma? Not so much.

As glamorous and regal, that the media try to make the Kennedys appear; as much as the Kennedy machine makes Jack look young and have "vigah", Richard Nixon is only 4 years older than JFK. JFK is like the brand new car, that comes off the lot; while, Nixon is like the car a person has had for 8 years, almost in perfect condition, and has plenty of miles to go.

I think this is the case for a number of reasons. History is beginning to show that Nixon was likely one of the best presidents the US never deserved. His foreign policy insights especially regarding the dissolution of the Soviet Union and Russia's turn to totalitarianism following a missed opportunity by the US and Clinton to step in and cultivate a Democratic 21st century. His domestic policy that saw the creation of the EPA, preservation of our natural resources, and steps towards a national dividend to replace social welfare (like Alaska), were light years ahead of any other president we've seen in the last 100 years. Despite the Watergate scandal, his Quaker morality anchored his policy and centered his ethics like few Presidents before and none since. Lastly, as the current Republican party splits and dies under the weight of the religious right, anti-science, anti-diplomatic, isolationist, and populist sentiment, its clear that Nixon is the president that we did not deserve but desperately need..

Sure but JFK was a Combat Veteran,had a PT Boat blown from under him and saved fellow crew members even though he was Wounded. His Brother Joe volunteered for a suicide mission and was killed in action. The Kennedys weren't light weight dudes.

Yet JFK was a WW2 Combat Hero. He also lost his older brother in WW2. Joe,the oldest son ,volunteered fto fly a suicide mission and was never seen again. The Kennedy family suffered great loss for their Country.

JFK did serve in WW2, but it is true a lot of people forget he came from a very rich family and had good looks on top of that. Nixon was a more average joe despite history treating him as a generic rich republican.

Kennedy did come from privilege, but he and his brother had empathy for the downtrodden.
This is a surreal moment.
Nixon never participated in combat during his Naval Career. He was a logistics commander for Air Combat Command. Kennedy was a PT boat captain who literally engaged the enemy, survived his boat being cut in half by a Japanese destroyer, helped rescue a crew mate, and led his men to rescue. And then went back out again. 'Silver Spoon' he may have been, but it is not as if he was sheltered like other 'rich' sons. Both men were good debaters, which is what set them apart from most politicians. Kennedy simply was more charismatic.

Still Kennedy had all the money, connections, and the family name. Nixon came from nothing and made himself VP 6 years after leaving the navy. That’s what he means by that although Kennedy was remarkable too.

I have always liked him even when I was a kid and knew nothing about politics.
I would watch a really good movie about Nixon. One that didn't set out to portray him as a villain or a hero. Just a well told and balanced story that showed both his brilliance and his flaws.
