Mark Goldfarb they are all still relevant but a lot more on the way

I am a beginner to this software and this was incredibly helpful. Thank you!
Glad you found it useful
I'm a beginner with Affinity and this is by far the most lucid and comprehensive video I've watched on creating layers. Thank you very much, Chris P Williams.
Thank you I’m glad you found it useful
Hi Chris, Been using CS3 and 7 since inception. Changes to Affinity, bought the book, looked at a bunch of videos. This tutorial answered all my major questions and got me going. First class presentation, at the right speed and not making assumptions about the viewers knowledge. Cant thank you enough.

A big thank you from The Netherlands. This really helps.
A big you’re welcome from sunny South Wales 😀

You call it basic.... I call it invaluable! As a total beginner, this was incredibly useful and easy to understand. Thank you!
The Attic Rooms thank you
100%. I bought Affinity Photo a month ago and have learnt a reasonable amount from other UA-camrs. This however is exactly what I've been trying to sus out! Great channel, look forward to explore more as a new subscriber 👍
You sir are highly appreciated because you literally help us newbies with small details that some other tutorials leaves out!
Excellent, one of the best tutorials that I have seen. Well described and easy to follow. Well done and many thanks
Excellent and very easy to understand. Thank you.
Many thanks for another excellent video. Straight forward explanation on difficult subjects.
Just an echo of what so many others have already said, but your thorough, clearly spoken presentation is refreshing and very informative. Thank you!
......Hey Chris...After watching a number of other instructional videos on Aff. Photo...I can... see, here, and understand Your instructions and can Learn...Thank you! I am a rank beginner but I will not have to stay at this level. Some folks are making tutorials...but don't intuit the flow of learning. All teachers are not created equal. When a new student gets with a poor teacher it can be a real drag. OK ...THANKS A MILLION for the clear instructions and details.
i want to say thank you! Your teaching style is AWESOME!!! I love the time you take to clearly, slowly, and Calmly explain what you are doing.. thank YOU!
I just love love love this tutorial. thank you.
I’m glad and your comment made me smile
Very good tutorials, love the way you present the theme, calm and without the usual "yoooo, what's up,guys" and similar expressions. Just right to the important stuff, serious and very skilled teacher
Newbie Just that thank you, more to come soon
Absolutely. It's interesting how often the quality of a video (on the tube of yoo) is inversely proportional to the noise and brashness of the presentation.
Awesome! Thanks for getting me started with Affinity. Your tutorials are great, you are a natural teacher. Appreciate these tutorials very much.
Just started with Affinity and found this tutorial so good for a starting point and so well explained. Thank you Chris.
Brilliant This has really helped me understand layers etc. in fact everything Chris mentioned was very beneficial . I kept pausing video to actually do on affinity step by step that way its easier for me to take it in and rewind video to clarify points. will certainly be looking at Chris other tutorials. Good to have a calming voice and not the usual overexcited commentary!
Paul Edwards why thank you for your kind words
@@chrispwilliams6297 Your welcome just done your B&W one, step by step its really starting to sink in now
This program is a real tool for the rest of us. I am retired and the Adobe fee is starting to be a real problem. This is very useful.
That was so helpful Chris, thank you so much. I particularly like you giving us the keyboard shortcuts, very time saving & also thank you for explaining "why"
So many of us are not familiar with Adobe PS and are looking for beginners tutorials for Affinity. This video certainly fits the bill and is easy to follow. Great job, Thanks!
Finally, I've found a tutor that explains this app in a way that I can comprehend. I was getting nowhere with Affinity's official tutorials, so thank you very much for this essential resource Chris.
Thank you for your kind words
Great explanation. Thanks for posting.
Great video really clear and helpful. Thanks Pete
Thanks for this Chris. I have just bought Affinity and I was ready to top myself trying to undertand what Affinity calls its Basic Tutorials. I am a potter and just want to enhance my own photos of my own work for my website. I thought Affinity would be much easier to use than it seems to be but have just come across your video which explains things very clearly.
Very useful. Other Affinity users may be interested in this little issue I had. I followed Chris' steps exactly using his photos, but could not get the painting on the mask to work. Painting with black did nothing. I compared my screen feature for feature and discovered I had the Protect Alpha check box checked. I unchecked it and then everything was fine. So showing the full screen helped. Thanks Chris.
Hey thanks for sharing.
THANK YOU FOR A GREAT VIDEO, I just bought Affinity and I am now a bit more familiar. THX.
Thanks, Chris, for a well-explained intro to layers.
Thanks Chris very impressed by your step by step tutorial.I was having Affinity software for almost two years now through Chris my affinity editing eyes are openned,Thank you very much.
Great video!! I learned a bunch!
Clear explanation, easy to follow along. Thank you, Chris!
this is a great tutorial - thank you for having a calming effect yet being quick in delivery and very informative.
Victoria Krautmann you are more than welcome 😀
Thanks Chris, I and new with affinity, well explain, you clarified several topics. It really held me to understand Affinity. Was so used with Adobe that realized that Affinity is a head of the game. Like you instructional techniques, you stay to the subject and provided the god details. Very appreciated... keep the good work.
Cheers
Thanks Chris great !! work just what I was looking for.
very nice and comprehensive video, well done and thanks!!!
I too struggled with some of the basic features that you made it perfectly clear especially identifying some of the shortcut keys. Thank you for doing this.
Thank yoy. I am an intermediate Affinity user but found this a great refresher class.
Even if I already knew the software it's a great introduction.
Hi Chris, Thanks for taking the time & effort to make these videos available, they are really helpful. I have watched about three so far and gaining a lot from them, so please keep up the great standard.
when i typed in soft soft tutorial i did not expect it to be tNice tutorials good thank you so much aaaaaaa
Thanks so much Chris. first video of yours Iv seen. excellent mate!
I'm off the look at your channel now.
This is all very new to me---I have found this very helpful
brilliant, very helpful, thank you, Sir!
Thanks Thanks and thanks for this. It’s a great video that gives a synopsis of settings, effects and how to’s and more importantly layers. When I copy and paste I don’t see the blue boundary to move copied object around. Not sure why but I’ll keep trying. It’s a great piece of software at a very affordable price with lifetime updates.
👍👍👍 Thank you, Chris!
Outstanding presentation. Immediately you gave windows and MAC equivalents for the short cut commands you illustrated. At that point I was convinced the video would be well done and informative. It was. I see others below have said what a wonderful teacher you are, Agree.
You are a great teacher Chris !!!
Chris, you are a star. Thank you.
Wow. You read my mind and gave me exactly the answers I needed. Well done!
Once again Chris, a wonderful video explaining some key principles of Affinity Photo. Many thanks for responding with such alacrity to my request for a video explaining the displacement filter. Keep up the good work sir.
Thank you Chris. Beautiful teaching method. Very relax as well.
Is this program compatible with Lightroom?
Very good explained and even if you use affinity photo for a while you can learn more details. Thanks for spending your time to help other users and creating these kind of tutorials! TOP work.
Great tutorial, Chris.
With your soothing voice I almost thought I was watching a nature documentary about a pigeon.
Exactly,+Affinty is just better, and easier to navigate and understand..i just got it and i tell ya i was like stun..Unlike when i first downloaded photoshop cs6 some years back, i had to go and watch some tutorials just to understand how to navigate around in PS....It just blows PS out the water and you know it,+ the price man can't complain
Yes, a pigeon's thoughts . . . haha! Great tutorial!
@@ROMORoo7 Yeah photoshop has the worst ui you could possibly design.
Chris you Rock!! Great explanations to the point and I like how you add in the short cut moves through out with cause and effect examples ie. centering, zooming etc. Too many other beginning instructional videos take it for granted that their viewers know a number of moves so it frustrates the hell outta yah when it transpires and you have to say wait how did that happen the shrinking of the brush the selection etc. Learned allot more about the power of Affinity here than in any previous video, or in Adobe PS Videos for that matter, in the past three years. Hope you have more of these for me to check out as I know what I can imagine, this opens the many windows! Saude!
soulone1000 thank you for your kind words. More tuts to come
Lovely Video & I have to admit your mild tone of voice is a welcome respite from the loud lectures on UA-cam ! Well Done !

Also,Click+Shift+Ctrl and move your mouse in any direction, you can make copies too. I love shortcut keys lol.
Wonderful Sir.
Chris P Williams":thanks foe scrolling tip man
I DO NOT HAVE THIS SOFTWARE YET , BUT i THINK ILL DO A TRIAL RUN.
Hi Chris,I find it is easier for me to hold down the left and right mouse keys +alt (Windows) by moving the mouse left or right the brush size changes,by moving the mouse up and down the hardness changes.
So helpful. Thank You!
Brilliant, thanks
I would like to see the frequency separation done.
ARbull try this ua-cam.com/video/n2IGUIrYY68/v-deo.html
Chris - very informative video and I like the soothing tone of your commentary. One thing I don't understand is how you got both images appearing in the layers panel. Although I have imported 2 images into Affinity, only one of them appears in the layers panel - whichever one that I click on above the work area. How do I get both into the layers palette? Tony
ausfan100 if you have 2 file tabs that allow you to switch between images then sounds like you have 2 image files open. Go to one image and press ctrl and A at the same time. On your keyboard this will select all your image. Then press ctrl C this will copy the image. Then click on the second image tab to open that.
Now the second image is on your screen press ctrl V and this will paste your first image onto the second image.
Then you should see 2 layers in the layers pallet. 😃
@@chrispwilliams6297 - Thanks Chris, it worked! Much appreciated.
Perfect!!!!!
You do a goog job.
brilliant video for anewbie like me subscribed
Question... do you have a more advanced teaching on how to add shadows? I took a couple and put them in a ballroom and would like to add shadowing to make them look realistic.
Rochelle Douglass McEathron use the burn tool and just brush in the shadows, let me know how you get on.
Excelent!!! Thanks
Hi there, as someone who is a beginner at Affinity Photo, would you recommend that I get the desktop app, or would you reckon that the iPad app (which I already own) along with the Apple Pencil are a good enough way to learn. Thanks for the tutorial!
Both are great and easy to use. I would say however I prefer the workflow on the PC / Mac version
@@chrispwilliams6297 Ah ok thanks!
Thank you
Hi - it seems that adjusting levels effects the entire set of layers, not just the one you’re working on, can you change things like color balance & levels on a layer without it effecting the rest of the layers in that doc? Thanks!
S J Somers Art just left click and drag the effect over the layer you want to adjust
Thank you!
