This guy is the definition of underrated!! One of the best voices ever. An accomplished bassist. A large body of work. Yet all of us are the only people that have even heard of him.
Saw James in 70s with Trower. His vocals express a depth of Soul that is very rare and gifted to very few vocal artists. I am of the mind that James lives through his recordings. "Why so unforgiving and why so cold Been a long time crossing bridge of sighs"
Very, very, very, underated singer and bass player. So sad that he's gone now. But we still have these great songs so I guess we will still get to enjoy James' work forever. Thanks
Oh, you're the same as I am. Yeah, I too, got into Robin Trower and James Dewar, about the same age. Saw them once. In Chicago, Illinois. A place called The Park West. Intimate ! Close. It was awesome. It was part of the, going places, that you now, could legally, go into, and have a cocktail at.🍸 ! The sound was just superb. Great soundman ! I really love James voice ! Special. 🙏✨
Wonderful tribute to such a gifted singer. First heard his soulful voice on Bridge of Sighs and it was Robin's guitar work that first caught my attention. James' voice keeps me coming back and was an influence on my own singing for decades.
It’s a pity he didn’t release more stuff on his own, as well as his excellent work with Robin - IN CITY DREAMS being his best vocal work I think - R.I.P.
Man I wish that James Dewar could have collaborated with Phil Lynott and to see what an Irish Bass playing singer and lyricist with a strong sense of melody and a scottish Bass playing singer and lyricist with a strong sense of melody could have created together ?
Been a Trower fan since "Conquistador." Never heard Jimmy until "Bridge of Sighs". Some of the albums were better than the others of course, but "Fool", It's for You", and "Sweet Wine of Love" really showcased Jimmy's talent. I'm a Scotsman and Jimmy Dewar was a hell of a fine laddie. RIP.
I love all of Trower's stuff, but , you're right, nobody could sing like this guy, got to see him live twice, once in Birmingham, Al and once here in Houston, one of the best vocalists to ever walk the face of the earth, I love this song, would love to have this cd
Trower is one of the greats, but his music just don't get it without James Dewar. The painfully obvious proof is when they reunited to record "Back It Up" Lately, I've been listening to "Lady Love" repeatedly and pushing the ear buds in as far as I can to hear the great Dewar bass lines! I love it!
Dewar's work with Robin Trower was outstanding. I notice that in the comments for Robin Trower vids on youtube that more ppl talk about Dewar's singing than Trower's guitar playing. Dewar was a perfect fit for RT. Don't think he did any lead vocals in Stone the Crows since they featured Maggie Bell.
Why do people have to say things like this? James Dewar was a friend of mine. A lovely sweet man with some of the best pipes ever possessed by a human for soulful rock. He wouldn't for one second have let you say something ridiculous like that. Paul Rodgers voice really has nothing at all to do with Jimmy's. Paul Rodgers is a great bluesy-rock singer. Why in the world would you compare these two? Listen a little harder. Who's better - Jeff Beck or Derek Trucks? Both.
ah a great man we had many quite times together ,with jimmy and matty in our house, wheb she carved MD L J D on our bathroom mirror thinking she was in a hotel. sold the house as to big the size oof hunterhill ,but the carving lives on hee hee x
James Dewar does sound a bit like Paul Rogers…and to me a bit like Phil Lynott too. He was a very talented vocalist and songwriter. Wish he were still here.
I know this sounds crazy ....but listen to Elliott Yamin and tell me he couldn't cover the old Trower songs. He is the only one who comes close to James Dewars vocal tone.
This guy is the definition of underrated!! One of the best voices ever. An accomplished bassist. A large body of work. Yet all of us are the only people that have even heard of him.
Arguably one of the best,if not THE best rock singer ever.Definitely my favorite and sorely missed.
R.I.P. Jimmy.✌
Paul Rodgers has a similar style of voice

Yes.He’s fantastic too.
I hear his voice, and memories flow by as if you're looking at a kaleidescope ! The emotional remembrance, flows through me. Soulful yearning. ✨

Man, this is great 👍
James voice is a treasure. 🙏💙
Very, very, very, underated singer and bass player. So sad that he's gone now. But we still have these great songs so I guess we will still get to enjoy James' work forever. Thanks

Amazing vocalist that should get much more credit than he does, One of the all time best !!
That Voice----OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wonderful tribute to such a gifted singer. First heard his soulful voice on Bridge of Sighs and it was Robin's guitar work that first caught my attention. James' voice keeps me coming back and was an influence on my own singing for decades.
one of the most haunting, soulful voices of our time, rip,jd.
I will always love james dewar I have been listening to this man sing for over 30 years he is my greatest singer
It’s a pity he didn’t release more stuff on his own, as well as his excellent work with Robin - IN CITY DREAMS being his best vocal work
I think - R.I.P.
@@martinpowell5769 everything he touched was gold. Solo, with trower, and with Maggie bell and the rest of stc. Timeless voice to say the least.

Indeed Saw him live 1976 in Sydney Little fella with that big voice. Effortless 🎉😢

John B. Fleming greatest ever!!

true right ma friend......james was mighty fine......meet his boy in paisley.....good guy too...
The Best!
No matter how you look at it, you can find great blues singers in Scotland.
See our photos and memories of Robin Trower when he played in San Francisco 1973-4. britrockbythebay
Lisa Dewar : Are You Still Alive , haven’t heard from you in a long time .

Kenneth Elliott The Hunterhill house was heeeyoooooj. Long time ago. I'd revisit if I could.
Is this from a solo album of Mr dewars?
Are there any Biographies on James?

mr trower jimmy co wrote most if not all the track why at the prs hearing did you say he was a session musician ? credited on the albums ?
Kenneth Elliott Robin Trower does Not give much credit these days to James Dewar . I wonder why , i use to email Lisa Dewar .
So, does Eva Cassidy singing "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" rate as a 'soulful' vocal?
Sorry about at'. I just read that Paul Rodgers had the most soulful voice ever, and I disagreed.
jacob durfey
James Dewar trumps him
:-)
James Dewar was better than Paul Rodgers. By far. He dosent get enough recognition.
