I'll be honest here, I'm not much of a "rock hound" but when you do these videos on the Ocean Picture Stone I'm glued to to them just as much as your gold videos. Thanks for including me and everyone else who watches your awesome videos! Thanks Dan and family!
Dan consistently puts out quality videos regardless of what he's doing. I am particularly fond of his collaborations with Pauly. They seem to feed off each other's positive energy.
Hey Mr. Hurd I just bought the piece from this vid. Letter Y. for my wife who loves the OPS. This will be a part of her Christmas for 2024. Thank you for doing what you do.
My wife is a lapidary and 20+ years ago we became aware of ocean picture stone, although it was called rock instead of stone then. We have many pieces in our collection and have cut many cabochons and made much jewelry. It is wonderful to see it being mined again. People that make custom counters cut some of our too big pieces for us. They were delighted to have a small project to earn pizza money. They used a water jet which made easy and fast cutting.
Couldn’t help but holler for ya when you and your wife got that big rock on the truck. Lol you still got more in ya than you think Dan and full props to your wife as well she’s a lot stronger than she looks. Keep on keeping on Sir and I’ll be sure to keep on watching, I love your videos.
I would suggest investing in a cherry picker and putting off-road tires on it. You could wheel it into position and then have a mesh net to wrap around or roll the rock into. Help get big ones to truck and in the truck without a hernia. I saw someone else mentioned getting a heavy duty tarp, I think heavy-duty moving blankets would be great to roll the rock on. Roll the rock 10ft, move blanket in front roll move repeat (lessen the impact and fracturing. Would give you something to wrap your most precious finds in for the bumpy road home. I love your videos, long time subscriber. You and your family are awesome. Thank you for sharing your lives with us.
Very cool picture stone the colors and the design is stunning and beautiful, great job. Great advice and knowledge on the feather wedges great tool to use. Hope you have a wonderful bless weekend 😊
I love that you brought up watering down under the truck to bring attention to that. Glance under the truck and make sure there's no sticks or grass that got snagged by the catalytic converter. 👍
You really need to find better way to lift those big rocks. Even a 6' long 2 x10 would allow "rolling" the rocks into the bed. Great stuff Dan. I looove watching other people working. 😁
Dan! Save your body! I just turned 51 and I feel like if I hadn't strained my back as much with youthful exuberance I would be more comfortable in my body now. They make bed-mounted swing hoists that can be electric powered or hand cranked (for the vertical lifting part). They are VERY reasonably priced considering the reduced strain on you. Check them out.❤
@Danhurd you'd be surprised; those hand crank winches are super cheap, will do a lot more thsn you think, and it's a heck of a lot easier on your back. $40 at Canadian tire.
Hi Dan! I love your channel. Have you ever thought about putting a wench on the front of your truck? You could secure the rocks with chains and pull them out to make it easier for yourselves. Just an idea. That stone is absolutely gorgeous. 💙 Stunning 🌊Don't think we have that here in California but I could be wrong. I've watched you for years. Makes me miss my dad. He had a beard like yours and he loved panning and dredging for gold and garnets before his aneurysm. Pleae don't push yourself in the kind of heat you were describing. We have had so many people the last few summers pass away from just walking, hiking, and jogging in the heat. Your family only has one of you! 😊
Dan! You calved off a massive boulder! NICE! Evan, carry that for your dad…🤣 Looked like a difficult game of Rock, Hammer, Wedges. 😎 That was the perfect break along that fracture. Absolutely beautiful! WHOA Dayna! That’s some heavy lifting. 🤯 💪
Every time I see the scenes in the OPS, I think of my time in Alaska. Wonder if there are corporations or schools that might like to use cuts of it in their awards. A few of those you showed today looked like the Bering Sea during Breakup, with the sand and rocks starting to be visible near the shore, but the water still full of ice and bergs. Lovely!
I love your ocean picture stone videos the most of all your videos though I do like them all. Only wish they were twice as long because I enjoy them so much. Keep up your great adventures I love coming along on the ride.
You need a swinging boom arm with a mount either on bumper or in truck bed over frame. 10-12 feet of 2 inch conduit and you could make one easily. Chain hoist for the lifting. I used a system like that for putting heavy waste pumps in and out of a truck. Beautiful rocks.
Hi Dan, I use a heavy duty two wheeled cart for transporting any rocks under 400 lbs. It has two reinforced bycycle wheels and is pretty stable on rough terrain.
Dang, that went down the hill smooth! Thanks so much for these videos by the way, I've been absolutely looking for rocks in places I never thought they could be because of you!
Dan, you need a rock net in your truck for moving those big chunks. I've used them for moving boulders up to 400 pounds with a trail building crew. Basically it's a round (octagonal) net made out of chain, using the unscrewable links to join them together. To use the rock net, lay it out beside the rock you want to move and use rock bars etc to flip it onto the net. Then everyone grabs the chain at the edge and you can much more easily lift or drag it.
He also needs a dolly with pneumatic wheels, a couple of ratchet straps to strap the rock to the dolly.. move it to the truck easily.. oh and a rear window guard in case he gets into an accident.. them rocks flying through the back window could be the end of the show.
Harbor freight sells a inexpensive truck mounted mini crane that can lift the big rock with ease. Yiu mount the crane to the bed of the truck. Winch would help as well.
Dan, if you don't already have one, please consider getting a winch. It would really come in handy when the kids aren't keen on helping you and dana roll a stone up a hill.
I was delighted to see the wonderful stone the colour is spectacular and cuts are beautiful. Thank you for the family working together in wonderful discovery and great to have your wife so strong in her lifting that heafty stone ❤ 😊
This stuff looks like it's worth more than gold considering a whole day of planning might only turn up $30. Of course there is more work at home cutting it. I love watching thanks!
Dan, trust me when I say, you need to get an ICS diamond chainsaw. I sculpt alabaster and other softer stones and it’s a game changer. Perfect for cutting larger 150-500lbs stones into manageable slabs that your stone/slab saw can handle. Beautiful stone!!!
Those are so beautiful. I know I'd love to have one, but I really don't have a way to display it nicely and, at 71, I won't get to enjoy it like someone younger.
Dang! Nice stuff Dan! I need to buy a piece of OPS, I'm sure it looks even better in person. BTW... Dana is awesome! She lifted those rocks like it was nothing! Just another day on the hill.
Dear Dan i highly recommend getting a winch to save your back pains! I believe the most beneficial for your use is called a lewis winch which is powered by a chainsaw and then u can wrap snow chains around the boulder to hook the winch line onto and drag it, couple boards for a skid and a couple boards for a ramp which willsave money on massage therapy and or chiropractor costs ;) best wishes my man! (We actually use a quad winch and some block and tack to move excessively large logs around the millsite in the yard here)
great video. maybe Jason or somebody makes some sort of portable swing-arm frame you could attach to your pick-up truck and use a winch to lift those big rocks.
We use an achizzle to make a line with a flat 3in chizzle and give it a solid whack to split it on the line. With that rock it might come apart in pieces but you might save alot of time and drill bits. At least where there is alot of host rock. Maybe even a concrete saw to get it started and save material with not.losing an inch because of drill holes to work around.
I have an electric 12v winch that works very well ,it can be installed into my trailer hitch receiver ,something like that would be right up your alley makes a lot less work .great vids keep them coming!!!!
have worked at a granite quarry for thirty five years ,just a little advise use a little grease on your wedges ,will break so much easier save your back!!!!
I'm an avid prospector and rockhounder who has started making his own jewelry by cutting, casting and setting. I would love to make some cabs and eventually jewelry with this stuff. I just wish I could come pull my piece out of the ground because that is part of my process. Might have to settle for buying.... Expensive stuff though. I get why it would be though. VERY unique and beautiful. That Dayna Blue is calling my name ;)
I'll be honest here, I'm not much of a "rock hound" but when you do these videos on the Ocean Picture Stone I'm glued to to them just as much as your gold videos. Thanks for including me and everyone else who watches your awesome videos! Thanks Dan and family!

I totally agree! I subscribed to Pauly after seeing him on Dan's videos. They are a fun pair.
Hey Mr. Hurd I just bought the piece from this vid. Letter Y. for my wife who loves the OPS. This will be a part of her Christmas for 2024. Thank you for doing what you do.
Nicely done! I have 3 specimens, and a 1lb piece of the premium. It's all very nice!
Lucky you!
I love when the feathering wedges start to sing.
My name is Dana and my oldest son is Evan. Hearing you say their names always gives me a chuckle.
My wife is a lapidary and 20+ years ago we became aware of ocean picture stone, although it was called rock instead of stone then. Your Ocean Picture stone is reminiscent of a Bob Ross painting to me. Absolutely gorgeous.
Man that big rock could easily be a museum piece!
I seriously hope you catch the thieves. Would be awesome to see them on camera.
I can imagine Dan saying something like "Come on down to the lab.. and... see what's being slabbed...." Or not. Great video.
Nature at her finest. And Dan you earned my kudos, your family too!
Thanks for all the laughs Dan. Heres to another great year. Stay Kind Stay Blessed
Awesome to see the family. Enjoying the amazing picture stone. Great stuff everyone

Hey Dan! It's so amazing how beautiful Ocean Picture stone is. The blue is just breath taking and the scenes it creates is spectacular!!
It always amazes me that rocks can have such beauty and semi-precious gems inside them.
I watch each one of your videos eventually but the second I see an ocean picture stone video... I drop everything to watch it!
Very cool picture stone the colors and the design is stunning and beautiful, great job. Great advice and knowledge on the feather wedges great tool to use. Hope you have a wonderful bless weekend 😊
Awesome team effort, very strong Dana. Great workout for the family.
I love that you brought up watering down under the truck to bring attention to that. Glance under the truck and make sure there's no sticks or grass that got snagged by the catalytic converter. 👍
Why do you have to water under the truck?
@lisapfeiffer2266 Dry grass and exhaust heat make 🔥
12:40 OMG! THIS! 😮😮😮
Newb here. I never knew about Ocean Picture Stone until now and it is by far my new favorite!
12:40 That is rediculas. Thats perfect. Well done Dan, well done.
YOU ARE THE MAN! DAN! Thank you for your hard work and dedication
I bought a nice slice for my mom as a birthday gift. Thanks Dan!
I enjoy all your videos!!! But what I really love is it's a FAMILY FUNCTION! Thank y'all for sharing!!!
You really need to find better way to lift those big rocks. Even a 6' long 2 x10 would allow "rolling" the rocks into the bed.

You need a winch to bring big stuff to the truck, and a bed-mounted crane to move big stuff into the truck!
That is a huge vestment for something we seem to be doing without just fine…..
That is when you get one to sponsor you or donate to you to use ..isn't that how content creators do things for advertising
@Danhurd you'd be surprised; those hand crank winches are super cheap, will do a lot more thsn you think, and it's a heck of a lot easier on your back.
$40 at Canadian tire.
I love it when Dan works in the Ocean Picturestone quarry. The aera reminds me of our family cabin near Yosemite.
Wow that material is just gorgeous.
You know you have a great lady when she kicks her gears into beast mode!!! Mrs. Hurd rocks!

BEAUTIFUL THANK you for sharing this with us 🙏 ❤️
Fro-Bro doing an outstanding job of supervising your efforts!
His back will appreciate it further along in life. Smart fellow!
Dan! You calved off a massive boulder! NICE! Evan, carry that for your dad…🤣
Looked like a difficult game of Rock, Hammer, Wedges. 😎
That was the perfect break along that fracture. Absolutely beautiful!
WHOA Dayna! That’s some heavy lifting. 🤯 💪
You need a motorized lifting tail gate. Save your back so we can keep seeing these amazing pieces!
Beautiful stone. Looks like the scenery north of the arctic circle. ❤
Enjoyed watching you extract those beautiful specimens from under a layer of graveled slope. ' Incredible !!!
Such gorgeous pieces!
WOW DAN! I can't believe that came off in one big piece!👏👏👏😮😮😮😁😁😁
Every time I see the scenes in the OPS, I think of my time in Alaska. Wonder if there are corporations or schools that might like to use cuts of it in their awards. Wow. Evan is growing up so fast in front of us all. Seems to be a very good kid. Keep doing good Hurds.
Yes, that would work nice, but is it worth it for one or two lifts a year?
So beautiful! Thanks for bringing this content to us!!!
Hi Dan, I use a heavy duty two wheeled cart for transporting any rocks under 400 lbs. It has two reinforced bycycle wheels and is pretty stable on rough terrain.
Wow! What an awesome team!!! Beautiful pieces!!
Very nice and much respect for all of the hard work that goes into this!
Aww, feels like the end of an era! I've watched you chip out so much beautiful stone from that deposit!
Beautiful and very gemmy!!
Super sky blue!
Excellent extraction!
New subscriber here from East Texas! Love what you do. Enjoy your cheerful attitude and fun videos. Good luck and keep having fun.
Simple suggestion: Heavy duty tarps make for great shared-load carrying. Just make sure it's a good quality tear resistant one.
I've seen this stone in person when Dan was at Filberg Festival. Super cool!!! Almost looked fake its so surreal.
7:04 KACHING! Nice work Dan!
Dang, that went down the hill smooth! Thanks so much for these videos by the way, I've been absolutely looking for rocks in places I never thought they could be because of you!

I've used snow chains(for tires) to do much the same just usually running a winch or crane for the lifting...
He also needs a dolly with pneumatic wheels, a couple of ratchet straps to strap the rock to the dolly.. move it to the truck easily.. oh and a rear window guard in case he gets into an accident.. them rocks flying through the back window could be the end of the show.
@@OldmanWithaGoldPan-o2g headache rack is very on point!

A small sized slab displayed in a plate holder on the wall or on the shelf.
Just absolutely beautiful stuff! I don’t usually buy rocks but I think I’m gonna have to get some of this ! ❤
These ocean picture stones are simply amazing ☺️
Hey Dan I’ve got a 30” slab saw if you ever need help cutting some huge slabs
Just like the Dimond cutter in the back of the Lincon Continental in the pre cut Gruve ! Need a Dimond mine next and a Lincon !!!
Dang! Nice stuff Dan! I need to buy a piece of OPS, I'm sure it looks even better in person. BTW... Dana is awesome! She lifted those rocks like it was nothing! Just another day on the hill.
My wife has never seen any of this channel. I just showed her that first piece he cut off of the Evan seam and she loved it.
Dan you should think about trying movers straps for moving large stones.
Dear Dan i highly recommend getting a winch to save your back pains! 11:11 That was hilarious!! 🤣
Time for a new sledge, Dandalf. 😉
Putting a small Wedge into the Handle is a 5-Minute-Fix and doesn't cost one single Penny (if you cut the wedge from a Piece of Hard Firewood at Home)
And a new wooden handle sloghammer . Beautiful rock 😊😊plus back braces.
Amazing kind of stone and btw, I love Dana too.
Wish I could help out playing in the dirt! Thanks for sharing these!
Those are amazing! And the sheer quantity, nuts
great video. maybe Jason or somebody makes some sort of portable swing-arm frame you could attach to your pick-up truck and use a winch to lift those big rocks.
Watching from Australia. That piece that broke off @13:00 was amazing.
We use an achizzle to make a line with a flat 3in chizzle and give it a solid whack to split it on the line. With that rock it might come apart in pieces but you might save alot of time and drill bits. At least where there is alot of host rock. GOOD MORNING ALL YOU HOBBY PROSPECTORS HAVE A BLESSED DAY Y'ALL. ❤😂🎉😊🎉🎉❤
I have an electric 12v winch that works very well ,it can be installed into my trailer hitch receiver ,something like that would be right up your alley makes a lot less work .great vids keep them coming!!!!
Wow! I would love to have a piece! That is really cool!
Some of the nicest scenes I’ve seen in OPS!

My Gosh! Dana is a power house. 😮 👍👍😊

Time for a Winch Dan
Some beauty color in that boulder!
I'm an avid prospector and rockhounder who has started making his own jewelry by cutting, casting and setting. I would love to make some cabs and eventually jewelry with this stuff. I love the Xylophone Wedge Music at about 5:30 in. Really gets my Jingle. Ya know?
Amazing video!! Thanks for sharing!!
I'm glad you are showing your claim signs!! Reinforce that it's a private claim!! BTW, I ADORE my ocean picture stone earrings ❤❤❤❤
Great video, Dan
Get some straps and 2×4s and make a sling to haul out big rocks. Love your videos!
Dana is a beast! You make a great team!
14:46 impressive lift ! I didn't think you had a chance.
Beautiful! Didn't see any in Quartzsite last year, but hoping to see some this year
Good thing Dana strong like bull! Helluva chunk of rock! Jaw dropping stuff.
That is a beautiful piece for your house, and as far as I can see your claim is very clearly marked
So gorgeous.
