- Performed at Phil's fish market on 07-07-09. Annie Staninec on Fiddle, John Kael on guitar, Mott Jordan on Bass, Larry Cohea on Banjo. Recorded hand held with a Canon 5D MII using the built in mono mic. Sorry it's not better audio.

Unbelievable Technique!
I find myself watching this over and over. I'm not sure I'm using the correct musical terminology but when the music comes back to the tonic, and she and the audience sense that glorious resolution and you see her pouring every erg of passion, determination and joy into it.... Wow, that's the power of music! Love you Annie!
I have heard the Orange Blossom Special played many times, but that young lady ranks right up there with some of the best renditions of it that I have ever heard!! Well done, Annie.

If she grew up in China, they are taught perfection from a young age. They are also taught to honor their parents and grandparents. Really, not for show.
There's not an as written orange blossom special. It's a breakdown. An ad lib show piece open to interpretation. She just did a short version very well. Her bow control is absolutely amazing as is her fingering and intonation. I'd like to hear something like lady be good to have some examples of her ability to play swing jazz and free inturpurtation and vibrato technic.
It’s actually more impressive for someone who’s so classically-trained to get the feeling and the vibe of the tune, beyond just what’s written… that’s one of the biggest hurdles for some classical musicians. I play 100% Irish, country, bluegrass, Norwegian and Scottish fiddle, and you wouldn’t believe the arguments I’ve had with classical violinists in school, good GOD. The ones who were ignorant and wanted to remain that way, at least…they’d play some fiddle tune based off of the sheet music, but completely devoid of life, just staccato, and a bland rhythm. The concept of making it your own didn’t occur to these people… obviously that’s not the case here.
@@michaelshultz2540 you are correct. Orange Blossom Special is not a show of technical ability. I love the song played on electric fiddle and harmonica.
The years, months, and days of practice that went into this all show on her face when the audience recognizes what she's playing. Her smile is infectious. Good for her.
That was freaking awesome!! I love seeing someone challenging themselves to play a tune, especially one as aggressive as this, harder than they thought they could, and pushing herself to really nail it, and she did.
this is an example of what it means to be human...the music is literally flowing out of her body into the world for all to enjoy...we are the only species on the planet that can do this...I get a little emotional every time I watch this...go Annie go!
First time seeing her and I was blown away. She was absolutely the best. And one of my favorite tunes. Very talented and pretty.
She is great!!! You actually need a split screen to be able to watch her feet as she comes up on her toes putting her entire self into playing this very challenging song. She is beautiful, and plays full on...her face and upper torso show the intensity of what she is putting into her playing...You can surely call this a total performance. Go Annie...

I am in the UK but really love this kind of music and keep coming back to this video. The young lady exudes talent and helps me forget about the pandemic and what it has done. Annie you are one mean violinist. This always puts a smile on my dial!!!

The first time I heard that, it was played by Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs in Nashville. Thank you for a little taste of home I had thought lost. I needed that more than you can imagine.

Annie is freakin' adorable. One of the most awesome fiddlers of her generation, and an amazing performer. If you ever get the chance to see her play in person with Kathy Kallick Band or any of her projects, don't miss it! This video is great, but doesn't even touch what it's like to see her live!

So Nice to see Annie, John, and Larry on the tube! And, I tried to count how may bow strokes she does in a minute, but it made my brain fry! Annie's a great teacher, too! I've been in her classes at Walker Creek Music Camp in Marin County, CA, and the California Bluegrass Music Camp in Grass valley. Wonderful people as well as great musicians!

That's the best performance i have have ever seen! Congratulations to all musicians. That's beautiful because of its simplicity, cheerfulness, harmony and so nice sounds. That's very pleasant to watch it any and every time I see this performance. Her feet "floating in the air" shows she plays with Body & Soul. Bravo!!

You are like me. Supposedly this was done about ten years ago. They say she's better now. Don't know how she could be much better at this. Even got invited, and accepted, to play a tour with Rod Stewart. Rod, at this point of his career, sure wouldn't want a "maybe" to tour with him. She plays the banjo, and the guitar. Yes. And teaches out West. I understand she a mixture of Chinese and Ukrainian . Good Mix.
@Ira Lee I’m not sure the term “hybrid” is appropriate for humans. Perhaps something hyphenated such as “Euro-Asian” is more accurate and acceptable? At least, that’s how we on the West Coast refer to the many thousands of children of mixed marriages here.

@Ira Lee Lol! My son is so smart (I'm bragging) we wonder what happened! He's also very musical, which he inherits from both of us. Our daughter is adopted, but is 1/4 Japanese, the rest European, and is likewise artistically talented, both musically and art-wise (she draws a lot). By the way, I have never heard our kids or any Eurasian kids referred to as "mongrels". If I did, I'm sure I'd punch that person in the mouth without hesitation lol.

Jerry was just complementing the young Lady. Just because you might have made a different comment doesn't give you the right to be a grumpy guts. You could not even tail tag your comment with something nice to say about the musicians. Maybe you might roll out on the other side of the bed tomorrow and it will be a better day for you. It does not cost you anything to smile and pay a complement rather than to just be an antagonist to everyone around you.

Fantastic job rippin' thru the Orange Blossom Special. Our stumpf fiddle band has always enjoyed playing to this song, but your rendition is amazing. I can't imagine the many hours spent playing this song it would take, to nail it like you did. Once again, Great job Annie!

This is great ! She's great. Folks can poke fun at country & bluegrass music, but there are some songs that separate the extremely talented from the rest of the gang. This lady is in the ex. talented group. This song will give even the clasically taught people a run for their fingers.
