You did a great job! Love how you left her artwork visible. Notice when a guy builds a boat without plans, there is always a spam comment telling you that you need a plan to build a boat 😂.
Thankyou VM for sharing and teach us your experiences. I want to ask you How much weight can this canoe support? 3 people plus charge? Thank and Good Luck!
have my design in mine.. I want to have the lightest. yet strongest possible. what size of marine ply would you suggest.. and is it worth fiberglassing the whole lot using finer ply.
Nice looking boat. What's the width across the top middle and bottom middle please? trying to get an idea of the angle of the sides if they are 10/15 or 20 degrees, very hard to tell from the video... thx
I did b one in 6 hours total time nite I know I could do it in 2 hours easily..... But I prefer to use 24 hour epoxy for better penetration and hold so over night... Just use wire instead of tape.... For fiberglass tape I used drywall fiberglass tape then filled the texture with sawdust epoxy mix.... Made very solid edges.... Cost me about 40 dollars for the whole build.... Next one I build will be made from door skin sealed with epoxy inside and out
+fishing mad you're absolutely right but as you say, very fun building. Also, it's about skill more than cost. I could build another one for the same price but the quality of the build would be far better as I learned the hard way the first time. I reckon the end product would be considerably better than an inflatable.
sorry for the long delay in responding! You need about a gallon. I used a 3:1 epoxy so 3 litres resin, 1 litre of the hardener/catalyst. I'm currently making a mini version of this boat and I'm using a 2:1. They come in various types.
rjk69 Not necessarily. You and your associates may pronounce it that way; others, of different nationalities, cultures, dialects will pronounce it differently. As does the videographer. Your suggested phonetic pronunciation was the result of illiterate sailors, often of diverse origins, mishearing and repeating the sloppy pronunciation of their shipmates. Many nautical words suffered the same fate. For example, “bosun” is derived from a contraction of “boatswain” ( and should be spelled “bo’s’n”, the apostrophes marking the missing (unpronounced) letters). It’s very difficult, at this distance in history, to know how the word was originally pronounced: Falconer, in his 1815 ‘Dictionary of the Marine’, has 3 different spellings for “gunwale”. Although we do know that in 1815 spelling was more-or-less optional, this does imply that the word had, at that time, several different sounds. Sloppy speech and mis-pronunciation was not unique to illiterate sailors. It continues to happen even among educated people. Which is why people of different nationalities, both purporting to speak English, may not understand each other. It’s not unique to English; it probably happens in all languages.
This was the most useful video I've seen on the subject and is probably the one that will lead to my building the boat. Thanks!

wonderful slideshow! I am a fan of "no plan" boat building!
Nice build and some great advice. Thanks for sharing.
REALLY helpful video, answered all the questions i had ..thanks
Thank you for posting this, I'm about to make this same boat and it's wonderful to have a walk through per say on it. How is it holding up?
great looking build thanks for sharing, what were the measurements at the highest point front down to the centre.

I want to build one. Could you please share the plywood cutting lines?
nice build bud.
Hello, could you please share the patterns measurements how to cut the plywood. Thank you.

£200 you could get an inflatable for that. Great fun building tho. Came out well.

trust me, you really dont want an inflatable! utterly horrid things!
It's often the journey and not the destination that's important. You learned by building, you wouldn't have by buying an inflatable....
What is the amount of epoxy resin to make a canoe that ?

Gunnels mate…
It's pronounced "gunnels".
rjk69
That depends on your nationality, upbringing, experience, first language.
It’s spelled ‘gunwales’.
@@johnstarkie9948 I know how it's spelt, but it's pronounced 'gunnels'.

@@johnstarkie9948 Where is it pronounced differently by boat builders ?
