    A few bunch of things have been patched (a "No Expectations" moodlet for a whopping 50 mood helps with breaks a ton, and people can doctor early now as far as I can tell) which makes it far more tolerable. I personally really like the start when I make it start with 5 people, so that I advance faster + can get more stuff done.
    For colder areas, the Large Fire actually keeps pawns warm if they're close and I don't think I have any mods for that. Still, if Winter rolls around and you didn't manage to get both butchering and crafting then yeah, death sentence.

      Having tried 5 runs to get this footage, I'm not shocked it was patched to be a little more forgiving for a start!

    When I first started a run on that mod, one of my pawns randomly had a masterwork bolt-action rifle as a belonging and it basically won me the entire native stage on it's own.

    In my playthrough, I went full nomadic for the first couple years, leaving the moment food went scarce or a major threat occurred. Only settled down once culture was only tech left. I used the Set Up Camp mod to not leave a ton of abandoned bases around.

      Smart! I tried to avoid a cold snap by going off map to wait it out, the caravan took too long to form because of a mental break and the frostbite got infected. Just Rimworld things!

    Definitetly seems like a start that may need some xenotype cushioning to be fun by the sounds of how hard just getting footage was.

      It's been patched a fair bit since, as long as you're not landing in an extreme biome it's more manageable now. Still unfortunately a little bit of a boring phase to start. Just lots of rituals and cooldown.

      Nah, it’s fun and not too challenging. It does encourage being a nomad though, and as you research the techs you’ll get random wild men joins that make that even more necessary for food

    Probably my favorite out of recent VE releases ever since Psycasts Exapnded.
    I always wanted the ability to increase your faction tech level. Other mods did it in the past but it's nice to have a VE option.
    New content is pretty rad too, although after 2 consecutive "wild men" runs I wouldn't do it again, not very challenging(unless doing in extreme biome) and takes a long while to reach neolithic.
    Edit: also for some reason my pawns are capable of healing each other, even though I don't think they're supposed to. They're even able to use herbal medicine. Probably a bug in my version

    • @MysteriousFawx
      @MysteriousFawx  6 місяців тому +2

      Nah it's not bugged in your version, it was patched soon after launch because too many players were annoyed at the difficulty of not even being able to tend simple wounds. It's the reason it took me so many attempts to get a good run, a single hungry predator or just bad luck with a manhunting animal could kill the entire colony because of blood loss.

    The key to my survival for this mod is to treat it as Naked Brutality but harder. You absolutely need to munchkin your way to victory, and do not be afraid to eat raw corpses and wear tainted clothes.

    • @MysteriousFawx
      @MysteriousFawx  7 місяців тому +3

      I found horses were great as they easily fed 3-4 colonists entire bar from a single corpse. I also spent a lot of time wearing tattered and tainted clothing, praying the mood breaks weren't too bad.

    This told me that it isn't what I was looking for, but I'm not complaining. Still quite helpful, thank you!

    I think you have to play with the medieval faction mod.
    Developer said its intended to have the rock wall so that helps building an early base and freezing to death.

    • @MysteriousFawx
      @MysteriousFawx  7 місяців тому +3

      Aye, you can do that but you can't build doors until construction. You basically lock yourself into a little rock coffin. Functional but not entirely practical.
      With this mod overview series I'll be doing my best to look at the content in its own vaccum to try and help players understand exactly what is included without relying on additions from other mods, unless explicitly mentioned ofc, like with Smart Speed.

      @@MysteriousFawx I've played with the mod a fair bit now and I see how anoying it can be. All reasearch seems to spread randomly, Its really difficult to get more research as I need more people. Getting People takes a stroke of luck from the Ritual or the Big fire seems to bring more wild people in, however if you don't have 7 in Animals they will just eat all your food. I got crafty and looked for other ways to get new pawns but I just dont see a good option, I tried Caravan ambushes, attacking factions is a no go, Quests are too random and you dont seem to get raided.
      The only thing I can do early game is get berries, boot people of my team because food is harsh and Grind up the Anima Tree.(Sometimes It Bugs a little?)
      I was really excited to play but its just a cycle of needing research needing more people needing people to get more people.
      I wish Wild People were set to 0 minimum handling skill at least.
      I also tried trading with other factions but not too much luck as Berries can buy some cool stuff depending where you go, but it feels cheesy buying an Autopistol.
      I feel like visitors or people passing buy are gone?
      Its really tough or time consuming would be better.
      I would like an easier way to get people, thats all im hoping for then I can see the enjoyment in the mod.
      Just nothing to do early game...

    • @MysteriousFawx
      @MysteriousFawx  7 місяців тому +3

      I think a lot of the things that are missing is because of how poor/low tech your group is, especially with using Talon as a storyteller. You don't have enough weath to justify the game spawning raids or hostile events as you aren't a threat, nor do they want to send traders because... well... you have nothing to trade.
      I was getting a lot of ambrosia spawns, cargo pods, random animals joining etc which I guess was nice? But also meant there was basically nothing to do on a day by day basis.
      Once I grabbed some ambrosia, traders started to turn up, so I traded it for some actual gear and it made the storyteller come to life almost instantly. Maybe this run benefits from a trigger happy Randy to spice it up a little as the Cassandra/Talon logic basically thinks your colony doesn't exist.
      I spent most of the first year eating animal corpses too as I'd harvested all the berries on my map! Definitely a grim origin story!

    • @themagicalbeast6188
      @themagicalbeast6188 6 місяців тому +2

      @@MysteriousFawx Sounds really good, I found the same thing when I traded lots of berries to a nearby tribal faction, I kept about 300 silver and I started to get raids. However I didn't have any prisons to put them in so its anoying getting more people as I carn't. If you do decide to use medieval expanded you can usually find some doors lying around the map from old buildings and patching it up with cobblestone walls. It's a neat idea but feels a little cheesy once again.
      I also ended up getting a mod called "Ritual Size Attenuation" basically it scales the amount of people for rituals based on the amount thats in your colony, so If you only have 1 or 3 people then you get the max bonus as your entire colony is attending the ritual. It only makes sense to use, plus its still a 50/50 on if its any good. So its well worth adding as it doesnt make sense needing 10 people to get more people as at that point you dont really need more people.
      I have been testing Research reinvented a bit but I carn't find a sweet spot for it as I don't like how you carn't choose what research you research into from the ritual. Maybe I will look into a mod called "Passive Research" but Its really fiddly. Regardless all their is to do early game is harvest more berrys then you could need, Wood for future and maybe an anima tree.
      I also got primitive storage and the retexture for it. It works really nice for keeping berries.
      But in the end I think im going to stick with Tribal starts. Tribals Expanded feels sluggish as theirs nothing to really do.
      Would be nice if everyone had a trait or something that gave 7 animals skill so I could tame other wild people, they just steal my food so the big fire isn't worth building.

      Really hard to know without a full modlist as there could be other conflicts, unless all you're running is VFE Tribal. Normally all that is needed is every basegame tech, modded content shouldn't impact it, but it isn't impossible for some mods to dig their claws in deeper than is needed.

  • @robmitch4085
    @robmitch4085 2 місяці тому +3

    Yeah I I had to remove tribal. It seems like a fun idea but it just didn't make much sense. "I'm angry" what why? "Because I ate without a table." Do you even know what a table is? "Is it food?" I get it's probably some kind of difficulty thing but it just doesn't make any sense. You shouldn't be getting angry that you didn't eat without a table or that you slept on the floor because you literally just discovered fire. The concept of sleeping on a cloth woven floating piece of wood should be foreign to you.
    And the weird thing about the entire mod is I just didn't find it that difficult to counter. Food bed table. Hit those three start in a tropical summer biome and you have almost no problems. So it's just the endless thing of monotonous time sync.
    Which is weird cuz I like staying around in a colony for vastly longer did I have any business doing. My current one is up to 10 years. But this feels more like mandatory fluffing rather than willingly staying around.

    I failed this 2 times, got bored the third time and then aced 4th time.
    First two times I had gloomy furniture, this ignored VE rules and gave me access to structures so I could build houses before construction was unlocked.
    Recently I stripped all my mods and wanted to learn the vanilla way, I failed the 3rd attempt to winter starvation.
    My most recent attempt I did some unique strategies that countered the prior reasons why I failed.
    Pawn selection is key, roll until you get
    Medic + intelligence
    Melee + Intelligence (CE has an option that makes you hunt with melee due to its ammo system) if not manual hunt with the stick u start with and good melee, guaranteed food? Lol
    Plants + Intelligence is OP
    you won't run around chasing berries all day. Grow large fields once you unlock this too because winter is coming...unlock it first. That's not a game of thrones reference... You WILL DIE at max research
    Everyone having good intelligence allowed me to complete Basic in one year and upgraded... This does create a good problem, lots of wild men join, but staying below 15k wealth until you can fight back is key so... Got rid of em.
    I didn't get to pick cornerstone when I completed it, as soon as I clicked upgrade, Cas sent pigs with grenades... Losing... Is not fun lmao everyone got blown up including the raiders who don't seem to be concerned with friendly fire and we all died. 😅
    One of the most interesting ways to avoid raids was leaving the map. Throughout the year I was getting raided by 5 guys with shotguns, getting hit by a shotgun in CE is deadly, getting hit naked is death.
    if there is no traders to defend us, caravan and leave behind what you DON'T have.
    Rebuild the large fire thingy, regrow your plants when the raiders leave, they don't usually take much anyway
    Its a type of gameplay I'm very used to from older games, like Pokemon Nuzzlocke challenge or just self imposed limits or... Just being obsessed with xcom, this is definitely the most challenging thing I've ever done tho, because when I started the fourth run, limited mods, I was hit with the fact that I'd be sleeping without walls..... Anxiety 😂
