Whoa wait a minute! The Cybertruck has had a “wildly successful year”? It’s not even on sale yet! Yes, the 2030 Ram EV has been crushing it right? I take it back, it hasn’t been delivered yet.
When the model 3 was announced, Uncle Elon promised us it would be the $25,000 car but it's price steadily went up, like most electric vehicles. It's not that ordinary people don't want EV vehicles, it's the cost and almost complete lack of charging infrastructure that exists here in the UK. When EV vehicles come down to the low 20's or even mid teens, then you 'might' see an upsurge in sales. But I doubt it! Like someone said recently, the people who really wanted an electric vehicle have now bought them and this is why we are seeing a down turn in buyers. The basic fact is, the majority of us just cannot afford to spend this much on a car when an ICE equivalent car usually costs half the price of an electric one.
I'll probably never buy an EV, mostly because I'm a cheap bastard and I like to work on my old ICE vehicles. But the reality is that EV's are the future in the long-term.
05:00 with production capacity of 10,000 cyber-trucks monthly... The advanced payment/reserved of (more than) one MILLION trucks.. it will take 9+ years to supply or ramp-up production 4 or 5 times to finish this model-contract in 2 years (long queing).
So when the cybertruck was unveiled it was magical. >500 miles range stainless steel exoframe bullet proof monster flat windshield. This was $70k. The current model x plaid is $95k. The cybertruck will have the plaid triple and weights > 9000lb with a BOM probably double. What's the battery and price, to be cash positive?

They know how much it costs. It would be foolish, not to calculate the final cost BEFORE production. How can you start production of a vehicle WITHOUT knowing if you can actually afford to make it? The reason why Tesla is holding back the price is because it's going to be some huge ungodly amount. The investors would immediately drop out, and Tesla will be bankrupt.

There is no direct corralation between an ICE truck and the CT. The CT falls into the lower end of the F250 in many aspects. Add air suspension and 4 wheel steering. Guessing Tesla can sell it at about the same price as a similar ICE truck. 1000 ft/lbs of torque with lots of HP. The Tesla Cybertruck has a towing capacity of 14,000 pounds and a payload capacity of 3,500 pounds. This is best compared to the Ford F-250 Super Duty with the 6.7L Power Stroke V8 High Output engine, which has a towing capacity of 19,500 pounds and a payload capacity of 3,940 pounds. The load & Towing capacity is significantly better on the ford. CT will have significantly more HP and a smoother more useable power curve. Based on this near equality the 3 motor CT can be priced at $80 to $100K. Has me wondering if and when we will see tow packages either Tesla or aftermarket to improve the Tesla tow numbers. There could be too many issues to solve.
"A Year to 18 Months Before it is a SIGNIFICANT Cash Flow CONTRIBUTOR", meaning A High Enough Volume AS A PERCENTAGE OF TOTAL SALES to make a NOTICABLE BOTTOM LINE IMPACT. That does NOT mean 18 months to become profitable.
None of what he said sounds out of place. That actually seems pretty darn good expectation for an initial ramp!! How many EVs have surpassed that threshold and have not got profitability and are even going into dormant stages. Basically everything about it is brand new including the manufacturing. Don't want to be like legacy who don't even rush to market and lose tens of millions on recall and warranty work.
Oh my God, are you preaching to the choir. I could not agree more with you. People in the comments bitching that 18 months is a long before they get the profitability? Are these people morons? What are companies gotten a profitable EV after year? None. None. No one is making a profitable EV in the United States other than TESLA.Rivian at two years and he still lose $30,000 per vehicle made Ford loses north of 30,000. GM has been making the bolt for seven years and can’t make it profitably people in this thread are morons.
@DonkaMowski ran out of funding so they basically put out an undercooked product. They couldn't set up the suspension the way they wanted and had to purchase unrefined underpowered engines. There's whole documentaries about it.
In my opinion existing pickups have been neutered. Cases of bent frames and Ford's collapsing roof illustrates this. Time will tell if Tesla has reversed this.
As soon as possible in Mexico they should start producing small vehicle, Tesla don’t has small vehicles & that’s what they have to lower the price of current line up. If they have small vehicle then they don’t has to cut the margins on current vehicles.

Whoa wait a minute! The Cybertruck has had a “wildly successful year”? It’s not even on sale yet! Yes, the 2030 Ram EV has been crushing it right? I take it back, it hasn’t been delivered yet.
See you Thursday.
It was $35,000
The only EV that don't sell are all the OEM, not Tesla, which keep breaking records year over year.
It has a problem... It exists.
It has another problem: Musk exists.

Because we don’t know yet, Einstein.
They know how much it costs.
It would be foolish, not to calculate the final cost BEFORE production.
How can you start production of a vehicle WITHOUT knowing if you can actually afford to make it?
The reason why Tesla is holding back the price is because it's going to be some huge ungodly amount.

IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE MANUFACTURING THE TRUCK, but manufacturing the machine that builds the machines!
The reason it's going to take 18 months to RAMP to full speed, is that every machine, every stand, every piece of handling equipment ,and a million other UNIQUE systems had to be invented, designed, built, tested, trialed, and balanced to match every other one,...
