- My visit to the iconic Venice High School where they filmed Grease. It was Rydell High! John Travolta was there! Danny Freakin Zuko! And Britney Spears filmed her first ever video there, for “Baby, One More Time.” I’m showing you all the locations from both. And killer dogs and elderly skateboarders.
One of the best films ever made, so sad we have lost our sweet Olivia

Technically they filmed four school. The gym where they had the national bandstand was filmed in Huntington Park high school.

Back when I was attending Venice High I was on stage crew. I'm not sure if that is what it's called nowadays. I was helping move some props from backstage in the auditorium and came across the original Rydel High School prop used to cover the Venice high lettering above the main entrance right behind the statue. Great video, thanks. I'm an original Venice native... Also please stop calling the school Venice Beach High! lmao

Graduated from here last year and oh man it brings back so many memories. Miss being an alumni here lol sucks that everything was closed down my final year due to construction though. But nonetheless, great video!

@@SCOTTONTAPE My Pleasure... HPHS is one of the oldest high schools in Los Angeles I believe this is why they choose the location for it's authenticity. While you are there ask to also see the indoor pool (across the hall from the gym). you will feel like you fell back in time... Best..

FYI it wasn't Huntington beach High School they used but Huntington Park High School 2 different high school in the greater Los Angeles area. The auto shop and dance hall where all part of Huntington Park High School. I know because my mom went to that school when the movie was being film. You can even go to Paramount pruductions it stated there in locations.

I graduated Venice High class of 1976, Grease was filmed a year after I graduated, but it looked the same in 1977.

Hi, great video and its fantastic seeing this movie history. I go on holiday to LA next month and wanting to visit movie locations (including Grease). Did you need special permission to film in the school grounds..?
Richard Gaunt hi there Richard . Thank you so much for watching and it’s always cool to meet a fellow grease fan . The first time I went to Venice High School the janitor took me inside and showed me around but in this video I filmed it on the weekend and the grounds were empty so I just wandered around. My advice when it comes to schools is go on the weekend because they are closed and you can usually just roam about without causing disturbances for students . If u want to go inside a place I recommend calling first or if u drop by on a weekend , knock at the door and see if someone is working and they may be kind enough to show u around . If u go next month in November and u decide to visit the school or another one from a movie during the week, remember to get permission to be on the grounds and also the sun goes down around 6 so u won’t have a lot of light . Weekends are best . Any other locations you are looking for let me know and I can probably tell u where they are . Also I’m back in LA in late November to start filming again so u never know u may bump into me haha. Have a great time !
Thanks for the detailed reply and the advice, When i visit in mid / late November i was just hoping to do similar to yourself and seeing with my own eyes where summer nights was filmed :-) Im also going to visit where the carnival scene took place (from google maps i don't need to be on the school grounds to get a pic on the playing field) so that would be good enough for me.. I also love the fact you are a big MJ fan and this is a big part of my holiday - visiting Forest Lawn etc, I am a big MJ fan also :-) Other film locations i hope to visit are - Karate Kid apartment block, Nightmare on Elm Street house, ET house, Back to the Future locations etc. I bet you can tell i like my old school movies lol. Anyway thanks for making great you tube video's and if i seeing in passing in LA i will say hello :-)

WeAreTheRest2050 It’s alright It’s mostly a tourist town. I had to move because I couldn’t find work their after I grew up lol 😂. I love the mountains their and they have a hot springs their and a few lakes and swimming ponds and rivers from when I lived their but things changed a lot since then. It’s mostly a dry climate because it’s in a desert they have some nice green areas in town. But when you travel a little ways out of the small town it’s more desert 🌵 and the desert has sage and such. That place is known for aliens being their. They have mountain lions that come around every now and then and then they have to tranquilize them back to where they came from. I loved riding my bike on the back old roads when I was growing up their or the late walks at night every night on school nights with my late mom and brother to. We’d get caught in the pitch dark with no flash lights at times back in the desert road and it was preaty scarry at times at night but we always made it home we were so scared of the mountain lions bothering us at the most. But I had fun times their and not so fun at times anyways I just loved the weather their because I wouldn’t be sweating to much like I do here in Nebraska muggy weather here and yeah you should check it out it’s preaty nice their as for the weather and swimming places and the hot ditch to relax sore muscles their to. Oh I forget to mention if you take a drive a little ways past manor market in Bishop California and on you’re way to mammoth mountain if you go that way theirs a very beautiful lake before you reach mammoth i think it’s called crystal lake. You should also have a look at it it’s so beautiful 😍 okay that it for now by.

M. David Dellinger Jr. I should have when I was in Delaware in May! I know they filmed at the St Andrew’s school, do you know if it looks the same still? And I know the cave they filmed the outside of is now closed to the public I think, and the interior of the cave was a set. I would love to film at that school as that movie was such a big part of my childhood . Thanks for watching !
Not sure of it looks the same or not..I know someone who said it does and they have a section inside dedicated to the movie...There's also the Everett theater which is still there and a road up in New Castle they filmed at as well..Next time your out here let me know we can check it out together...

They filmed the best parts of the movie imo in my school Huntington park high school. I remember they had a glass case with mementos from the movie signed by John travolta Olivia Newton John and the rest of th cast

the song is called the summer nights grease movie.
Grease is timeless cause it was set in the 50s. so even when it was released 1978 it was very retro. and that 50s style is just so classic. If it were set in the 70s I dont think it would age so well. Youd have to look past the dodgy 70s stylings.
Wild at Heart one of my favorite movies with Nicolas Cage and William Dafoe it's any way you can go to those locations I know. Some of the movie was filmed in Colton California cuz I was there when was film two blocks from C Street in Colton California

Visited in '77, four years after when I graduated from there. The school was brown, as in the movie, not the Venice High blue and white. By the time of this filming a full-on remodeling was going on but it is finished now and the only things remaining are 2 historical buildings. The statue you see is a beautiful remake of the original Myrna Loy which if you see in the movie which was of stucco, the new one is bronze. Love Grease because in part it is a home movie of my school as it was! It needed reconstruction although sadly it is not the same.

Yes, the bleachers are gone, the lunch area where "Sandy" sang summer love is gone. In fact the entire school is entirely gone except 2 or 3 buildings. I will likely return for my high school 50th reunion there this year and it will be quite a shock even though I have seen videos. It will be beautiful but no-longer my school. All of West L.A. has changed. My favorite park is spotted with bright blue tents for the homeless. It is still home for many but not the place where I grew up, not the place where we could walk to school or play outside until dark. And Venice High School is not brown, it is the school colors, white and blue and modern.

I thought Fairfax high school was the location of where the track scene was at. A friend of mine who lives down there took me there and he showed me the track and field. Wish I could post the picture of being there.
