An indie game that I really enjoyed that didn’t get nominated was Psuedoregallia. Some of the most fun I’ve had with a platformer in a long time. Also kinda sad Pizza Tower didn’t get a nomination. Anyway enjoyed the video. Need to get around the Dave the Diver and Dredge.
Though there were parts of Dave the Diver that I really enjoyed, I also think that it shot itself in the foot with these weirdly long puzzle/boss segments that become introduced in the mid-to-late game, followed by some truly barren late stage areas. I could go into the game hoping for a quick diving session before being suddenly locked into an annoying zelda-like dungeon for what feels like forty minutes, which you can't save in halfway through. To me, it feels like Dave the Diver sometimes doesn't believe in its own strengths as a game and tends to default to some cookie-cutter content to bloat its run-time. (Okay I may sound more negative than I am. I think the main gameplay loop is truly fantastic, but I was just very disappointed by the later sections in the game. I hope the developers can polish that part later on, and hopefully more with diverse fishing options instead of puzzle-elements)
In my opinion I think the indie game scene isn't really properly represented in the game awards very well but I would agree dave the diver is probably the best indie game of the award nominees second place would probably be cocoon. This is a good video you explained your thoughts on each indie game very well.
Man, I was so disappointed with Sea of Stars. Coming off of The Messenger, I was expecting more clever dialogue and tight gameplay, and it really whiffed on both. The aesthetics were the highlight for me, everything else was frustrating. To your point about Zale and Valere, I couldn't help thinking the story was more about Garl than the supposed main characters. I applaud the devs for the massive amount of work they put into it, but I get the sense they were more concerned about making an 'homage' than a cohesive game
As someone that has also played all of these games I agree with the ranking. But personally I'd put Dredge above Dave the Diver as I just enjoyed the atmosphere more
I haven't played any of these, but I played The Messenger. Never finished it because it started dragging when it got to a time travel part or something. I don't remember too well.
These indie game videos of yours were terrific
Hey, I come back to your channel quite often, I love your work and I hope you will keep uploading in the future.
You are waaay too underrated.
Same! I check back every now and then because the other indie game videos have been so good

Love your videos, was so excited to see a new one!
Indie game community has to be the most wholesome
Good stuff! I really liked the idea of using the gymnastics difficulty score multiplier to talk about ranking / comparing games and taste
Your videos are great!

drop the patreon
Personally, cocoons world system was insanely enjoyable
Loved your video and agree with your opinion. I think sea of stars is very overrated.
I think cocoon is pretty crap...I'm tired of "Puzzler" games and think that's cheap.
