Ghirahim is hands down the best thing about Skyward Sword, both because of his mannerisms and because he's the most active second/minion villain with the exception of maybe Zant. I like when the bad guy is an active presence.
Reaching Zant at the throne room shouldn't have been the climax of Twilight Princess. Zant failing his arms around doesn't really reduce him to a pathetic and comical presence, it just shows that Zant has lost it and truly gone crazy making him pretty unpredictable. It is a sudden left turn for Zant's characterization but his character wasn't sacrificed. Really the twist makes sense as we know that clearly with all of his power and how he views himself and even has those enemies that are giant heads of him, that he has a big ego, so seeing him lose and seeing Link and Midna walk up to him, after seeing how weird and creepy Zant is as well....it makes sense that he may snap and go crazy when you think about it, I mean Zant was clearly never trust worthy so no wonder he never became Ruler of the twilight realm originally. Zant couldn't pass a sanity check, but he is still smart in a way with how far he was able to go to eventually becoming the Usurper ruler. Also Zant still clearly had violent ambition and a fascination with forbidden magic. Honestly I would say Ganondorf being in Twilight Princess wasn't really an issue. I don't see how his late arrival undermine Midna and Zant's stories, he was the one behind everything and was trying to escape the Twilight realm, doesn't mean it undermines anything. Ganondorf sort of does have a personal connection with Midna since Midna knew about Ganondorf and kept him held captive. Also for Ganondorf...considering that he "lost" to the previous Link, he may want personal revenge against the current Link in Twilight Princess. Zelda also would know about Ganondorf if she really is that close to Midna, and she is willing to keep Ganondorf locked up too. So really Ganondorf would see Midna as his captor, and even Zelda to a degree, and Link as someone who has ties to the person who stopped his evil plan of betraying the king of Hyrule. So he does have some sort of relationships with the characters that oppose him. Considering that Ganondorf was the one behind everything and wanted to be let free from the shackles that the people of the Twilight realm and the Hyrule family (so that includes Twilight Princess Zelda) put him in, and also would want to kill the current incarnation of Link...yeah it makes sense that the game wants you to care about a finale that revolves around Link, Zelda, and Ganondorf. Eh...that moment in Twilight Princess doesn't remind me of that scene in Rogue One, it just tells me that even if they may not know each other that well, Link and Zelda know what they have to do, also really? How many Link and Zelda's even know each other that well? Like they met a couple of times in OOT...but they weren't that much of friends, they just...met every now and then. Ganondorf's appearance didn't really make me think of the moment Darth Vader showed up in Rogue One, it just reaffirmed that Ganondorf wasn't dead and is still alive which makes sense. What if someone who has never seem a Star Wars saw Vader in Rogue One? Well why would you have never seen a Star Wars film in the first place before watching Rogue One? Anyways if your trying to equate that to Ganondorf...why? Twilight Princess story wise...is a sequel to Ocarina of Time, it has both Ganondorf and even the Hero of Time in it, and the current Link is directly related to the hero of time, so you should already know about Ganondorf before playing Twilight Princess, and even without playing prior games the game tells you that he is clearly very dangerous and gives you info about him. Your right that fan service for it's own sake is bad, but the Vader Scene isn't bad fan service and I don't even think that Ganondorf being in Twilight Princess is fan service. The epic finale in Twilight Princess did have groundwork. I'd say that Twilight Princess would be a worse game if Zant was the only villain and didn't go nuts.
The fact that you made this entire video, and only got 23 likes is a shame hope this gets more attention in time. Also many thanks for putting Skull Kid and Majora as #1.
"a mediocre zelda title " is a bit excessive , for me skyward sword is a really good zelda game , and i appreciate it , one of my favorite in the zelda serie
I love how Zant goes insane. Hes been holding his rage for so long. Stupid Link always defeats his minions, Midna who just wouldnt flip off out of his life, I would be angry too if I was in his place lol
As someone who grew up with A Link to the Past, having Zant serve as another puppet to Ganondorf akin to Aghanim was disappointing, at least for Zant. His wackiness makes me not take him seriously. I agree with a lot of your points including that the final Ganondorf battle is epic and Midna is a fantastic character, but you did a great job of breaking down Ganondorfs lack of connection to any of the other characters. I like to think that Zants “snapped neck” signifies that he maintained some connection to Ganondorf and helped finish him off.
@@thelegendofthem6120 I liked then and think the video is better with them, but if the creator of the video is watching this I want to say mabey step back on the movie scenes.
I agree that Majora is the best villain of the Zelda series, but it's a villain I never wanna see return. I'm always excited about seeing Ganondorf, but Majora should be bound to this game and this game alone.
ya got to admit they did one banger of a job with Majora's Mask, did it in two years, TWO makes ya wonder how the other games just can't seem to reach that badassness
Am I the only one that spent 4 years on my botw game? I have been continuously playing botw since 2017 trying to go to every inch of land and ALL OF THE SHRINES QUESTS, EVERYTHING!!!’
I'm still on the fence between WW/OoT Ganondorf vs Majora but honestly I'm fine with this placement as I can make valid arguments for any of them at number 1.
Woah this video is soooo good, surprised this is your first one!! Are you gonna do any more Zelda ranking vids? I’d love to hear your thoughts on more Zelda stuff.
The climax of Ocerina of Time was to be even grander. Why? Because originally Gannon was to be a giant and you would have to climb and fight it. But they feared that you wouldn't be able to see all of him, so they changed it. This may have served as inspiration for Shadow of the Colossus.
This idea of making a giant Ganon also could have been the inspiration for twinmold, the giants mask, or the giants themselves in majora's mask since one of the ideas of majoras mask was to develop and expand things they couldn't do in ocarina
I love this video, and the effort you put into it is totally commendable- although, you were quick to write off TP :( For some of the same reasons you didn't like it (ganon being in the shadows, controlling Zant like a puppet while he tried so hard to get power) are why a lot of people have it as a favorite ! Zant going completely mad was because hey, he spent all of that time trying to become king and then the rest of it just trying to have power at all...and none of it really worked out for the dude. I'd honestly go mad too. However, I do agree with everything else. SS was great and so was Ghirahim but man, The Imprisoned was basically just some scaly toddler with marshmallow-toes.
Thanks. This video is a masterpiece. I only played the NES Zelda and the Handheld games but i love the series and know a thing or two but this Video taught me a lot. Keep up the great work :)
I agree that It would've been best if Zant was left as the only and main villain of Twilight Princess. Leaving the "God" he mentions more ambiguous. I do like that they told us what happened to Ganondorf after the Young Link Ocarina of Time timeline though. So, maybe they could've left it as Ganondorf being no longer a human but a demonic presence. The main villain would've still been Zant. Also, maybe this is a hot take. But, I really really like that Zant is nuts and crazy. Yeah, its a bit comical; however, when I played this game as a 9 year-old I thought this was so creepy. And, I still do. Zant showcases a cunning personality, cruelty, and an imposing presence the first half of the game. But, when you're gaining on him (getting the master sword, restoring the mirror, defeating all his minions) his resentment, which was the main reason for turning into villainy, gets the better of him and he loses his composure. Zant IS a big threat, but he's also chaotic and creepy. Making Zant entirely serious throughout the entire game would've make him a bit less complex, and more of a Ganondorf copycat. I like that he's insane
The switch is the perfect console to play every Zelda game ever made but is very limited on Zelda titles at the moment I feel like Nintendo is to focus on Mario games and I feel like they are losing money I know a lot of us Zelda fan we are waiting to spend in many Zelda game nostalgia game not even new titles we happy with all this old ones
I think the biggest waste of potential out of all of these is Zant. He was menacing in a way I can only compare to Majora. He appeared throughout the game and had a huge connection to Midna. Then at the very end Ganon comes out to steal the show and become the big bad.
Nice list, cant watch it all in one sitting, though I will. I just wanted to mention that the sunken city in Seasons, is implied to have changed its name. In the german version an NPC mentions this, maybe the german version came up with this though? not sure.
- Well, Vaati is probably only "Wind-Themed", because of the names-giving Persian (?) Wind-Demon called "Vaati" :D - Regarding Aganihm, I think he was a vessel for Ganon. So Aganihm was possessed by Ganon. So Ganon was still in the dark world, but was able to operate in the light-world through his vessel. - I appreciate Girahim as a villain, because he actually WINS! (In case of Ganondorf, I feel like Link had not a chance)
Ugh. I came to hear opinions on villains not to hear yet another person whine about how they don't like SS being linear. Ghirahim is by far my favorite villain in the series.
Me too. I have unintentionally formed and obsession, and I really like it.
