I remember going here and to other parts of Redwoods State Park, way back in the 1980s. It was magical. Camping and hiking there were the best memories in my life. Oregon also has beautiful forests and camping spots. I feel like I'm really at home when I'm there and hate to leave.
It might have been Big Basin that had the trail that led up into the mountain, where I was standing in clouds. That was crazy.
It's sad to see how some parts of the forests have changed and shrunk since then.
When I was 13 my family abruptly moved to Missouri AKA Mis-er-y. It's very humid in the Summer which is nasty, and it's full of BUGS. Which makes enjoying the outdoors impossible. Especially with all the spider webs across trails. That's one thing I loved about the Pacific Northwest, especially Redwoods State Park, the trees act as an insect repellant. Occasionally I'd run into a wisp of a spider web on trails, see some ants, or have to contend with some mosquitoes at night, but that's about it.

There's hotels by the santa cruz beach boardwalk. But not sure if it's open due to corona.

Does anyone have suggestions on easy hikes around this area? I'm taking my mom and she probably can't handle the moderate trails

There are some easy trails for handicap people, but I'm not sure how the park has changed since the fires.

big basin is a huge park, you can access it from the beach on rt 1 for free, its a vast wilderness, very cool for mountain biking in my opinion up near sandy point and chalk mountain

Thank you for posting this video. I went here as a kid with my dad 50 yrs ago. Now its all burned. No more banana slugs for awhile. Gov Brown-nose and Gov Nuisance spent money on other things and not park maintenance. Seems spending money on illegals is more important than 1000 year old redwoods.
Anyway thanks again for the video. There is something to look back on. A Time Portal.
