- In 1996, Joe Bonamassa purchased a Cherry 1962 Gibson ES-335, which he used on his very first album, A New Day Yesterday. Although that guitar carried a special meaning for Joe, in a story many musicians can relate to, he had to sell it so that he could move from New York to LA.
For 20 years, he regretted selling that ES-335. In December of 2020, Joe had the opportunity to be reunited with the guitar that started it all. He jumped at the chance to purchase it, and Joe says it will stay in his possession for the rest of his days. Epiphone is proud to partner with Joe to make this very special guitar available to you with the new Joe Bonamassa 1962 ES-335.
The Epiphone Joe Bonamassa 1962 ES-335 is a tribute to a legendary guitarist and one of his cherished instruments. It features a one-piece mahogany neck with an Indian laurel fretboard and a comfortable Rounded C profile and is available with or without a custom Joe Bonamassa inlay. This guitar features Gibson BurstBucker™ 2 and 3 pickups wired to CTS® potentiometers and Mallory™ capacitors, A Switchcraft™ pickup selector toggle switch and output jack, and a Maestro™ Vibrola™. A custom hardshell case with Epiphone and Joe Bonamassa graphics and a certificate of authenticity is also included.

I'm not famous, but I had a touring blues band in the Northwestern US in the mid-1990s. I had a 1994 Gibson ES-335 sunburst that I sold for some reason. About a month ago, I bought Gibson Limited Edition blueberry burst ES-335. It's like those 30 years melted away and I'm back home.
cool story bro
Epiphone makes great guitars the last few years! Keep it up guys, amazing job!
I've always been a Gibson man... But anyone who opts for an Epiphone will never get criticism from me. Whether for budget reasons or any other reason. I do believe that they are that good.
I play both. The gibsons get babied. Put back in cases. The epiphones are out all the time, go on random road trips with me, i just walk around with an epiphone around the house and noodle. Its nice to have something you don’t care about dinging up
@@Ottophil, I have an epiphone corner with them on stands, but yeah, my Gibsons are cased.
A good guitar is a good guitar. I've played Gibson's that were dogs, played Epiphones that sounded and played better. and I owned 1958 Gibson's, 1976 Explorers, tons of of Gibson and Epiphones, it's the particular guitar... not the price, not just the name
@@johnfritz15 I leave them all out, because I play them all! Guitars were meant to be played, not sit in a case
@@JohnMasino Same guitar. Same pickups. Yet one sounds great and one is a dog. Something weird is going on.
Just ordered mine!! Without even thinking about it! Should hit the doorstep tomorrow...
Can not wait!
Congrats!
@@yannick2047 it arrived!! And its beautiful
@@williammazzotta5595 hey, that‘s great. I am also very happy with mine.
Perfect build quality, especially the workmanship applied to the fretboard:
no tool-marks can be seen anywhere (not even very tiny ones) and the
precision with which the inlays have been installed is just mind-blowing.
Plus, the Burstbuckers harmonize very nicely with this guitar. On the
Lazarus model (same pickups), I more liked the bridge pickup (BB 3),
but on the JoeB 335 the BB 2 in the neck position somehow does something
special. Could be that on these Hollowbodys the neck pickup almost
always tends to sound better …
Looks beautiful and It sounds great! And I truly "get" the special feeling and sound of a ES-335. Very fun guitar to play! I owned a 1958 Blond Gibson ES-335 *the pickups said: patent applied for 1958 It's the one that slipped through my hands because I was too young to appreciate and know what it really was... and I paid $160.00 for it!
You had a 1958 335 ...and only paid 160 bucks ...and let it go ...ohhh the agony brother . I'm sorry dude...we all do things we later regret ..that at the time didn't seem like a big deal..I know cause I let a 65 strat go. Oooh the agony. Also ..Rock on man....
@@ougigaming8710 Yes the big one I was stupid enough to trade for a Marshall stack... seemed like a good idea at the time, NOT! I also had a 1966 white strat that Bonnie Raitt wanted to buy from me and I wouldn't sell it to her... I paid $600.00 for that guitar in Iowa City. And a really special 1963 strat that was metalflake silver/red... now that one was an unbelievable guitar and I only have one black and white photo of it that's nor close up!
Man does this guy come out with a new signature every month ?
Almost. He has a contract with Gibson/Epiphone to keep releasing models on a yearly basis for
probably a lot more years to come …
Well, as long as these keep selling, they will just continue to release new models. However,
the Joe B Epi‘s are mostly quite decent, so this is not such a bad thing.
@@yannick2047 no I agree his signatures are usually pretty cool but yeah make sense he has a contract to keep the money train going
@@micktheman6 yup. Plus I read somewhere their plan is basically to go through his collection and building (cheap, … sort of)
replicas of his coolest guitars, and his collection is more than big enough …
Poor JB I heard he's down to his last 100 million.
Times are tough out there
Epiphone has some incredible stuff and I have owned a decent amount of it. Whether it be the Les Paul Custom, Inspired by Gibson series, or even my original 1938 Electar, it all has a place in my collection
And my Gibson Slash, 60s, Ernie Balls and ESPs, PRS and Schecters. I pick up my Gibson Les Pauls and they just sound the Best?
Epiphone is making killer stuff today! I very recently got a fantastic Epiphone 1959 Les Paul and this guitar looks like it'll be just as good.
Please thank Joe for actually playing the Epiphone version unlike Slash that wouldn’t be seen holding an Epiphone.
I liked them so much, I bought both models. I'm playing the block-inlay, and have stashed the Signature model for the certain future appreciation.
They are rock-solid: fit and finish flawless (even has a little cherry bleed into the binding just like the '62s). Burstbucker 2 and 3 p/u, 5-ply body, 500k CTS pots, Mallory caps, and Switchcraft selector and jack. Add in the custom case, COA, and other case candy, and $1,300 is a steal
Nice ! fan for years.
A few Epis here and a Joe B fan for years.
IBZ AS73 here, thank goodness. SB 335 type here for over 10 years. Rocks.
Looks okay but it’s fairly expensive for an Epiphone. You’d have to really want it. I have the Gary Clark Jr ’Blak n Blu’ Casino with USA spec and that’s a great guitar. It’s so good in fact I’ve seen Clapton play exact same model. Epi’s can be great - especially their modern offerings.
Every guitar can sound great nowadays. The que question today is: Does it feel great too?
Tío guitar!! 🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻
No, it doesn’t sound great on JB hands.
Damn you epi0hone and Joe!!! Everywhere I look I'm seeing this guitar! Looks mint!
Congrats, Joe B!!! Good-lookng and great-sounding guitar. As an aside, I keep hearing about the big gap between Gibson and Epiphone offerings and am sure there's something to that; I guess my sonic palate is simply not trained well enough to hear it yet. By the way, I have an Epiphone Sheraton II that (in my humble opinion) punches waaaaay above its weight - it's a gorgeous instument that shows and plays well - close enough for me! Love it.
i fancy Bonamassa collection. either this or Noel. btw @Gibson please bring back Tom Delongne signature too.
I pre ordered mine yesterday. Just bought a 1950's Lespaul standard and was so impressed I ordered the Bonamassa 335. If the 335 is as good as the Lespaul I'll be happy. Epiphone is putting out some great guitars.
I own an Epiphone ES 335 pro. Similar vibe. Good guitar.
Very Nice… “Miss you, Hate you”, one of my favorite JB tunes. Regards from ATX.
I have the signature 355 2018 edition. PLays as sweet as anything I have ever had in my hands.
A few years ago, for about the same price, I bought a used Memphis made Gibson ES-333 that features a thin nitrocellulose finish. I replaced the pickups and added a pickguard. It's as good as any 335...
I wouldn't think twice about purchasing this.
$1300 but has hard shell case, a vibrato, CTS pots, Switchcraft jack and switch, and Gibson BurstBucker 2 & 3 pickups. I don’t know but I would guess the stop bar tailpiece mounting studs are under the custom made plaque based on how Gibson was doing that in the 60’s. But I am a sucker for small block inlays. 😂
hoping for an Epiphone Alex Lifeson Es-355 one day
it sounds amazing
Yep, it is a beautiful guitar and Joe is an amazing player. But I'm silently waiting for the AJ sig here in the background. Anyone else? :)
What a gorgeous guitar😍 Would love to play on it
I just got my shipping notice. Can't wait... :)
Still waiting for Epiphone to make a 56' Gold Top Les Paul.
Yep this is a must have in the inspired by Gibson line
They did that one years ago and there are plenty to be had on the used market if you don't mind the clipped headstock.
@@colinmcnab6145 it is time to have it back with the new elitronics and headstock IMHO
love this guitar
If only he had as many good songs as he has signature guitars.
he does, but his songs are quite segmented. unlike John Mayer, Coldplay, etc. which are for everybody's ears
@@bozopennywize He really doesn’t. And Coldplay and Mayer are even worse.
@@ZillianZilch so you are the almighty that nothing pleases you? cant imagine being your wife lol
@@bozopennywize What a strange thing to say. I don’t like 3 artists, 2 of which you named. A lot of people don’t like those artists. Bonamassa has so many signature guitars it’s ridiculous. The idea of a signature guitar is that it’s something that everybody recognises the artist by, like Angus Young’s SG or a Clapton Strat. Bonamassa just puts his name to anything. He’s not got one single song that the general public would know. As for Coldplay and John Mayer, they’re good at what they do but in my opinion it’s just bland pop music for the masses. There’s no edge to it at all and I prefer something a bit more edgy. Hope that’s ok. And thanks for the offer but I’m already happily married.
That opening riff which morphed to patatonic scales winds of Eric Johnson is just plain fat cool. Joe you might as well open Joes Rock-n-Roll Smokehouse Bar & Grill and play the house when no one is looking. Fantastic guitar no doubt to make it on John Lennon's list and Japan. What's the deal with higher or smoother frets? Buy the Hay, Incredible Show 😍 Shout Out from Tucson Music Hall, Great band & screaming good ⏳ 🕐 👍
He has Alvin Lees Big Red guitar. It’s a beautiful sounding guitar, this one too ofc!
No gas here I got a Gibson 62 reissued paid by a bonus for working during COVID season 💪🏼, there’s nothings better than free gear
The way I look at is that if you buy any used recent model Gibson at a decent price you’ll be able to sell it for at least what you paid for it when you want something different. So you’re basically enjoying it free the whole time you own it.
Bonamassa could make any guitar sound great . Does make me want to get one though .
This is beautiful!
I love my Gibson but I love my Epiphone too. Weird that headstock psychology does factor in but not as much as it used to for me.
I like how recently Epiphone has kind of found it’s niche in the “premium Mexican fender” price range.
I want one...lol
Still waiting for a Charlie Starr Signature Series Gibson....
Will be here friday
£500 says he never plays that guitar on stage once.
He played his Epiphone Les Pauls and the Firebird-I on stage many times but I'm sure the pickups, the wiring and maybe the nuts had been changed...And that's okay, I'm doing that on my guitars too...
But he'll probably only play one song or two with this Epiphone and that's it 😄😄
He has the original. Why would he?
@@davidevans3175 Probably because he has a contractual obligation to do so...
I think you would lose your £500 as he is known to play his Epiphones on stage which are stock.
@@davidevans3175 He has more than one 64 Gibson Firebird 1 but he still plays an Epiphone JB Firebird 1 in poly mist on stage.
This is cool and all, but I’m a bit worried about all these “Signature” releases lately. The prices on these things are going higher and higher, making them out of reach for a lot of people. Let’s face it, most Epiphone players (myself included) buy Epiphone’s because we can’t afford Gibson’s. These signature Epiphone’s are creeping into that price territory and kind of defeat the Epiphone “quality on a budget” vibe. When was the last time Gibson/Epiphone launched a new “normal” line up? 2019? C’mon guys, give us some new, affordable, non-signature Les Pauls, SG’s Explorers, V’s, and even a new 339! I know that’s what I would like to see. And I don’t think I’m alone!
I'd rather have a Gibson Les Paul Tribute for the same price.
The thing with these special signature models is that most people aren’t buying them to play them they buy the flip them for profit after Gibson sells out of all of them. Those people will definitely make their money back.
For the comments saying these are overpriced.
1) Regular Epiphone ES 335 $600
2) Burstbucker 2 & 3 pickup $300
3) Hard shell case $100
4) Upgraded wiring harness and switch is around $100 if prewired, and only cheaper if assembling it from scratch but more work
Just the features above bring the cost to around $1100. Keep in mind many folks got 15% off on this signature through places like Sweetwater and didn’t pay the full price either. This already makes it a very fair value. Now consider the added points below.
5) Upgrading pickups and wiring on semi hollows is not easy and most without the tools/experience will have to pay a luthier to do all these upgrades
6) The tremolo is also a bonus feature and being a signature with the artist name adds a small bit of value and allows it to retain it’s value.
7) While this guitar will actually hold it’s value or go up in price. A regular Epi with the same mods will not. Most cases, if selling a modded guitar, you lose money on those mods.
I'm sure Epi had like 3 different master luthiers working on the guitar they gave to Bonamassa for this video lol It'd be great if the ones sold were setup perfectly..
What? This is a 1300k guitar, this isnt the average 300 bucks epiphones.
@@henriquevalverde7179 Didn't know they sold for that high.. Still, even 2000$ Gibsons and Fenders usually aren't setup right from the factory..
How does epiphone build quality compare to Ibanez John Scofield JSM-10/20 with Super58 pickups? Both in $1200 price level 🧐
Hey @Gibson can we get this one in an "Inspired by Gibson" series Epiphone version? A lot of us love your brands and kind of pick between Epiphone or Gibson based on which model is being offered. Not a big enough electric player to pull the trigger on a high-end ES-335, but would go for something high mid-range.
1300 for an Epi is a little much though….
Bjourn Borg played with, and was endorsed by, two racket makers. Donnay, which he used in Europe, and Bancroft, which he used in the US. The Bancroft was slightly different and hurt his fingers which he had to tape to keep from bleeding while on court. But that's what his fans bought, and so he used them so they could see him play with them. Does Joe actually "use" these Epiphone models on tour? I know he has one of the greatest guitar collections on earth...but does he play these models on stage and in the studio? Can you hear these models in the records?
I need one
They are. I have an Epi 335 traditional pro... I can't find anything it cannot do.
Is Joe gonna put that in the raffle again in a decade and no one would win?😂
Let’s not forget, Joe is playing this through an extremely expensive rig and he’s a 11/10 player 😂
🙄 DUH ‼️”Let’s not forget”; Excuse me IMHO I believe it’s best YOU not forget that in all probability MOST Individuals simply contemplating the purchase of this Guitar realizes THAT. Do you REALLY believe JOE BONAMASSA needs the money OR is again simply greedy enough to put HIS NAME on an Inferior product ? Read the MANY other comments regarding how Epi has been “CRUSHING IT” and “KNOCKING IT OUT OF THE PARK” these last years posted by other PLAYERS ! Man, what a CONDESCENDING remark for YOU to post ! Freaking Headstock Snob I’m willing to bet…..
Was he playing through a Tweed, @Gibson
I think Epiphone is brand with a lot history and his own pedigree and does not deserve to be made in China.
If he wants to play it on the supposed forthcoming 5th studio album by "Black Country Communion"; then I have no problem with it! He just needs to get Sheridan and Bonham and the 3 of them can go and kidnap Hughes from the Dead Daisies where he seems to have set up home!
Come on Joe; you can do it, we need more music from BCC!!
🎸
You couldn’t put a rosewood board on a special edition 335…….???? Come on Gibson!
Anyone else notice the guitar leaning on the Fender amp at the end, conveniently blocking the logo? 😂
Are there stop tailpiece holes under the custom made plate?
Played a Epi Les Paul that looked just like my USA Gibson recently and it was 10 times better LOL
Epiphone builds some of the best left-handed instruments out there. That isn't so much Epiphone's doing as it is how bad lefty guitars are at any price range.
To paraphrase a former Fender employee, "Retooling the shop for lefty guitars is when we regular guitar builders go on vacation."
(:
I sympathize with your struggle, whenever I go to a guitar store there is luckily 1 or 2 lefty’s.
I’m so glad I’m right handed
I’m afraid I’m at odds with the world. I have a 2021 Epiphone Es335. It’s brilliantly built. Great build quality, fit and finish. This isn’t a comment on that. I just don’t like the 335 sound. Including this one with Gibson pickups. I like semi hollows and hollow hoodies. I have a couple of
Gretschs ans Epiphones. I just can’t get on board with the es335 sound. But each to their own. Clearly I’m wrong if it’s working for EC and a million others.
🔥
$1300? No rosewood fretboard? Your prices lately are just nuts.
*fingers crossed next Joe Bonamassa going to be explorer
I'm a big Epiphone fan but any Epiphone that isn't vintage and is over a thousand $1000 is asking a bit much even with all the decent hardware when you can get a Sheraton and swap the pick ups if needed for much much cheaper . Personally I'd prefer the Emily wolf semi hollow you can't go wrong with a Sheraton or even the riveria is a lot nicer I still think the dot is really underated for £350 and I think the pick ups are fine with a decent amp.i think the Les Paul and this for ,£700 is where it should be at anymore is asking a bit much but maybe then again they are limited editions ? What does everyone think ?
I agree with you. I was shocked when I saw the $1,299.99 USD tag.
I bought one, this thing is unbelievable, it out played the Gibson sitting right next to it. Sorry my opinion, I am a Fender guy but every time I pick up an Epi and compare it to its Gibson counter part the Epi seems to feel and sound better. To me it seems that Epi always had to prove herself and almighty Gibson can make junk and still have that untarnished name.
Is the intro song any of JB songs?
Needs a rosewood board if you're gonna charge that much for it.
looks good and sounds good.. €1269 though... a bit steep compared to the regular es335 in my opinion..
Epiphone Joe Bonamassa 1962 ES-335 vs SIRE ???
Available in left handed??
What amp and pedals are used here?
With all that quid he has, you'd think this geezer would dress better but nope. Let's go for the basic Jay Leno Dad look. How inspirational.
The problem with those series is not the price, nor the quality which is very good, but the neck carve. They feature slim necks... They're rounded alright, but still slim. I can't play them. To me, Gibsons are associated to big fat necks and I regret that Epiphone is not offering them as an option, like the LP and 339 series that gave the choice between '50s fat or '60 slim necks. I guess that, like Fender, they prefer for obvious savings on a large scale to manufacture a most popular neck profile. Too bad...
How much?
This is better than the Bonabyrd, I think.😄
실제 무대에서 쓰지도 않는 보나마사 에피폰 매년 발매하는 이유가 뭔가요? 아무리 돈이 좋아도 실제 본인이 쓰지도 않는데 이름만 빌려서 매년 뭐하는건지??
Did Epiphone make a 335 in 1962?
Of course not.
Just buy a dot for less than 400. Then replace the pickups for Gibson 57 classics. Job done.
I had an Epiphone 335; which was a great guitar, for exactly 6 days before my X wife’s dog knocked it over and broke the headstock and nut off of it…
Ugh. Why Can't Epiphone make a guitar like this without having to put someones name on it? No disrespect to Joe, I just dont wanna have someone elses name on my guitar.
Still very cool.
They do the Sheraton the Riviera the dot are all normal versions
@@BIGPADDY83 yeah I get that, but I want a higher end 335-355 clone that won’t cost 4 grand.
I don’t want to have a persons signature personally but that’s up to other people to decide.
@@Wharbaby how much would you spend
fat C neck is a deal breaker. Hopefully they release a 355 pro (block inlays) with the new headstock shape soon.
Is Joe trying to surpass Paul and gene with the quantity of signature models?!?
this will be the first and last time that he plays that guitar lol. joe b is amazing player though.
Joe does play his Epiphones at some gigs especially the Firebird 1in poly mist.
I'm a little pissed at Gibson right now. I paid a Gibson certified tech ti fix the fret on the 12th fret and it's still have fret rock on the 15th fret. 2017 lp classic never played and still frucked up. 2k I spent and the $75 epiphone brand new plays better.
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
I've never heard a 335 sound so muddy in my life. Probably chock full of 300K pots.....
Affordable? Maybe for Joe
An epiphone that costs as much as a USA Fender and has a COA is no longer an epiphone. I'm sure the guitar's good, but the only reason Gibson prices are crazy is they're a heritage brand, these prices dont make sense when their selling point is 'budget'.
Looks like Chibson ES 335 :(
Like Joe would play a peasant epiphone
500$ at most I’ll buy it
Good, you cant have one then
A little bit of a let down after Epiphone just released the Noel Gallagher.
Day 1,794 of asking politely for an epiphone Dave Grohl 335
£1150... Erm, no thanks.
I’ve bought two modern era Epiphones and both have had very poorly finished fretboards. A big no from me. Good luck if you buy one expect to finish the frets and the nut yourself
Bad ass but how about making it in left handed. Also make it not in white or black.
I guarantee you the Epiphone he's playing is made of premium woods and electronics. The ones sold to the public will most likely be of lesser quality as always. Poor finish, sharp fret ends, cheap wiring and low grade woods.
None of my Epiphones are like that at all. No sharp frets. I have Gibson's as well
