The epiphones with gibson pickups and better electronics jack and selector switch have been a huge home run for epiphone and the quality control on the high end epiphones has been great and the fret work is much better. The epi 59s and Bonamassa guitars have been great. I am a huge gibson fan but I can honestly say I think the high end epis with upgraded pickups and electronics/switches are actully better guitars then lower end gibsons . I have 3 epi 59s and they are better guitars then several gibson les paul tributes several les paul faded and even a handful of recent les Paul studios. I will nerve some money on a low end gibson again.
Hi Lee, I purchased the lefty Iommi sg from you a week before this video aired. I made a snap decision as you seemed to have the only one in stock in the UK. It's a great guitar and being a long time fan of Tony/Sabbath helps to soften the blow of the price a little!
I like the fact that epiphone makes these reissues of classic 50’s and 60’s rare guitars in the form of the Joe bonamassa models. But I doubt that adding the vibrola and case would increase the price that much in relation to the standard epiphone Dot model. Eastman t486 would be in reach for potential buyers of this model I think 😅
The Joe B version has gibson burstbucker 2 and 3 while regular production has probickers . The Joe B probably has upgraded pots jack and pickup selector most likely switch craft . The Joe B epis usually have all those upgrades. So it's not just the hard case and the vibrola it would cost alot more to buy the standard versions and Pay for a hard case a set of Burstbuckers 4 pots a jack and selector switch. Even if just wanted the BBs you would still Pau over the asking price of the Joe B version people also tend to forget that artists get paid a percentage of the a sales for their signature guitars. So the artists cut is part of the price increase . If you were to buy a standard epiphone and pay for all the upgrades aftermarket the upgrades almost cost as much as the guitar.
@@SagaMediaNet Youre paying for the fine details which any reputable luthier could finish your guitar for $3-500 bucks. Fret level, crown and polish, A full setup. Youre not going to get the same quality of materials but the quality is still very high in these epiphones.
Just scored a 2014 Gibson SGj 120th.... Oh dear lord, have i been missing out on SGs........ For some reason, i always thought it wouldn't be a match for me.. God was i wrong.. Extremely light, extremely good tones, perfect setup (very low, no buzz!). This is my holy grail. These Epis sound just as good, so i urge anyone on the fence to try out an SG, it's just that good....
I kinda wish the pickups in the Iommi were a bit nicer for the price, but that tailpiece is an underrated upgrade imo. It's really cool that Epiphone did a signature more like Tony's early Sabbath guitar instead of one with humbuckers though.
I have the Iommi Gibson USA monkey SG and love it. It plays real good. And I have the Epiphone cross Iommi SG so I might need to get this new one to make a complete set
You know what would be really cool. To see a behind the scenes video of a making of one these demos. Do you practice the jam first kinda go over the direction and style you want it in. How to do you choose the amp and pedals your going to use with each demo/review. Or are these Andertons trade secrets. 😉 My best friend moved back to England 6 years ago. I miss her very much. If I ever go visit her. Andertons will be my first stop and I'll have to buy a pedal or even a guitar. You guys have become legends in guitar world. I don't play very well but my girlfriend of 25 years is a world class jammer. She plays Zappa and Phish like no tomorrow. Me I modify gear like pedals I also build modular synth components and modify amps.
It goes like this.... Morning Pete, Morning Lee... what are filming today? Right... let me just quickly read the web site about it. Ready? Lets go... Press record... Pete starts playing something awesome, I play along as best I can. We talk rubbish for 30 mins, hopefully some of it about the guitar. We edit the swearing out. You watch the video. Having no secret IS the secret!
I respect that Bonamassa does Epiphone models and more people can actually afford some of his signature guitars. Let’s be real, the QC would probably be better on the Epiphone too.
i recently saw the video and i totally missed the giveaway 😭😭😭 guys you are the best and those Epis sound killer , Epiphone has been raising the bar with their models , props to them !! You are the best guys !!! cheers from México !
Nice that they went back to using Burstbuckers for the Joe B signatures . I have always wondered why they went with the Probuckers for the Amos v the norm burst les paul and the black beauty. BB 1 2 and 3 in a 3 humbucker les paul sound killer.
Captain, magic sauce with that P90 SG in the intro. I would not think Tony's guitar would appeal to me as I tuned in for the JB 335 type, but I thought it had such a presence and a "notice me I'm here" sound that I thought it had something.
I could be wrong but I think the sg's with the crosses that Tony played in the 70's were made by John Birch in Birmingham. I bought a J1 Deluxe from him about 78 . He was such a gracious person, I rang him and he agreed to let me pay for the guitar in installments. Still got it. In the late 80's charvel came along and I bought a second hand model 4. Blew everything I had away tonally and guess what, still does. The late eighties Tokai telecaster comes comes a close second. Both guitars built in Japan and superb. Wish I took more care of the Tokai now their fetching good money.
The Monkey SG was modified by John Birch (he added the chrome cover to the bridge P90 and put one of his own pickups in the neck as well as altering the bridge). Then there was the all-black 24 fret cross inlay John Birch with the chrome pickguard and JB mini humbuckers, then in the early 80's various Jaydees including the one that would end up as Old Boy. Jaydee is John Diggins who worked for John Birch at one point. You can see the John Birch SGs in the Dio-era live footage on YT. Geezer had John Birch basses too, including the one at the California Jam.
got a new JB 335 on dec 19th for $1100 my third Epi bonomassa with burstbuckers a 2011 LP dark back gold top, a 2021 LP 1959 LAZARUS , and now a 62 , 335 , epiphone and joe with vintage guitars that are excellent and affordable..... one piece neck all day..........
Yeah man American Master luthier and American builders over at the Qingdao Epiphone facility are the best hats off to Scott Lewis and his builders American and Asian..
Just recently purchased (10/28) the Bonamassa Epiphone 335. Beautiful unit. If you plan on buying one you should plan on having some minor fret work done and a adjustment of both pickups for balance. Otherwise I love it. The price is great when you consider what a Gibson 335 would cost. Also the Bonamassa 335 is designed to sound and reflect that 1962 Era and vintage Gibson sound. I must say I get annoyed when I hear "ephiphony." Egos abound in the music industry. Joe wanted the average gye to have a shot at affordable quality. I can dig it. P.s. John lennon settled on Epiphone casino. It can't be all bad right?
They finally did the right thing about the pricing so real fans will actually buy it (these sig guitars are still great value compared to a Gibson anyway) and ppl who just wants to flip it would think twice to get it now. Normally I'm not hyped for a raise but this has been an issue with Epiphone signature guitars on the 2nd hand market for years now. One more thumbs up for the availability, no hype before they are actually in stock, this is the way to go with a release imho.
I want the JB Les Paul Black Beauty from 2020 but the prices are insane! Sellers seem to think that a two year old Epiphone is magically worth twice the sticker price!
Have to agree the black beauty is the best of his signature guitars. As for the price increase, that just what happens with limited editions that even when you don't factor in a lot of them where trashed during shipping so what was a limited guitar is even more limited. How true that is I don't know but it would explain a lot of canceled orders. His Amos also skyrocketed in price. Joe signature have two appeals they are faithful recreation of his vintage guitars and signature Joe Bonaamassa Bonaamassa that's why I think they great appeal.
I got a 2015 Epiphone Sheraton II when I was 16 and used it exclusively until I got a Player Stratocaster last year (6 years later). The hard D shape on the Sheraton's neck wasn't as comfortable as the C shape of this would be. Anyways I really want that Bonamassa 335 😂
