You should definitely play the first Space Marine. It's a quick game and it's a lot of fun. You definitely feel like a super powered bad ass while playing, and the story is actually pretty good.

My suspicion is they haven't been able to iron out the performance issues we've seen in every display, as there's always a bit of stutter. It's not huge but it is noticeable.
If they are focused on fixing errors, then I’m fine with them delaying the game.
we know that anotehr enemy faction will show up, they've shown them in trailers, Chaos Space Marines, specifically Tzeentchian Thousand Sons, from the looks. They also showed sections of spaceship fighting, so it's really promising!
I too am pretty hyped for this game. I'm not sure if you're aware though, but Space Marine 2 isn't going to be an RPG game like Rogue Trader though. We might have points I guess to put into our stuff, but given it's primarily an action game, I doubt it. There is an excellent interview series that came out recently which had the makers of this game talk about how they've read a great deal of Black Library novels (Black Library is the imprint of Games Workshop, and they print the novels etc set in the Warhammer 40,000, Horus Heresy, Old World and Age of Sigmar worlds) in preparation. They even had a writer from the 40,000 studio give an interview as well, and he definitely knows his stuff.
if some of the clips are anything to go by, there should be daemons, traitor guardsman, and Thousand Sons chaos marines. whether that's in the single player campaign or operations, or both, isn't clear yet.
either way, really looking forward to this game. if they get it right, and it's Space Marine 1 but way better, it's gonna clean up and could really bring 40k further into the hearts and minds of the average gamer.
Great video!! I can’t wait to play this game! I never played a Warhammer game before so this will be my 1st. I might buy the 1st game on Steam since it’s on sale. I bought Rogue Trader I’ll play it after I beat PathFinder Wrath of the Righteous. Oh I love Starfield I played over 100hrs and I can’t wait for the dlc this fall. There are so many games coming out it’s exciting!!
Re: Reasons to fight and lore and who the Tyranids are etc. I would kinda be surprised if they go into too much detail about all these things. Warhammer 40,000 is *huge* and there are supplemental websites out there that you can browse to find out all sorts of stuff if you are interested. Lexicanium is a great resource, but one of many, Warhammer 40,000 wiki etc. I think you are slightly confused by the terminology as well. The Ultramarines is just a 'chapter' (basically an army) of Space Marine's. A Chapter has it's own history, fighting style, iconography and mythology that sort of surrounds it. For example, the Ultramarines are pretty clearly inspired around the idea of ancient Rome. The Ultramarines wear that regal deep blue. Another chapter, might be coloured Black (the Raven Guard or the Black Templar's), or yellow (the Imperial Fists), green (Dark Angels) or even Red (Blood Angels). Each of those chapters have their own set of markings, mythology, mannerisms and outlooks that may be different from the Ultramarine's and each other. For example, the Ultramarine's are rather tactical and logistical. They are more 'patient' for want of a word than say the Blood Angels, who favour close combat and rapid insertion and are typically berserkers when it comes to combat.
As to going into the history and why the Tyranid's are fighting, those sorts of things don't really matter to people in the 41st millennium. Less so to a Space Marine. That they fight is reason enough. They are the God-Emperor's Angels of Death. Supersoldiers genetically-engineered to be the greatest warriors known to man. It is their lot to be the spear of mankind and to destroy the enemies of the Emperor, whether they be xenos (like the Tyranid) or heretic (like the Thousand Sons, which have been announced as being an enemy; whether campaign or not - I suspect they will be in the campaign though). I would be quite fine tbh in purging the Tyranid's from start to finish personally, but I suspect that most people would be like you and would want some variety. There was variety in the first game too. The universe's meta-plot doesn't really explain these things, mainly because I think it's unnecessary to the broader sense of enjoyment, and partly because it lets players to self-insert some of their own reasons into it I suspect.
I am a bit concerned for their coop and multiplayer code without a beta setup. But if the single player is great they may have time post launch to sort remaining issues out…

Weve been told about another faction showing up as bad guys, who knows how much theyll show up though. Agreed I hope theres a good enemy mix. Game 1 handled this problem by having a short run time.
it needs to be in the best possible state at launch. they have a possibly radioactive community on one hand but on the other side of the token a fan base that will buy this up and launch this game straight into cult classic like dawn of war. warhammer fans won't tolerate this game to be bad in anyway. i'm so hyped!
After the Bloodlines 2 debacle, this news makes me glad I haven't pre-ordered. No game is too far along or looking too good to fall apart.

This is VERY dodgy news... means the game is not releaseable as a beta... and they are desperate for time
Cancelling the beta is a huge red flag
