    Fun review of what I have no doubt is a smooth flyer. I fly kiss on Apex frames, love it. But I'd try the aos 5.5 on my next build. I'm actually more interested in the aos 7, I want to build an INAV cruiser and it looks pretty good. Happy flying Jon E5 👍🤓

    Yup, I built on this frame, well, not this one but the 5inch version... Smoothest flyer I've ever built. The AOS5 and 5.5 are out in the v2 now... Available in different coloured carbon and even better resonant performance and a stronger arm design for thoes frontal impacts. In fact such good resonant performance that Chris suggests that you may be able to turn off the dynamic notch filter if the build is sound with no flapping or waving wires.... But that's with the v2.

    Steele never said anything negative. He said yes the quad flies great!, all quads fly great now. All I percived from the mr steele video was criticism regarding the frame design and the practicality of it and that was the five inch not the 5.5 your enthusiastic about in this video review.

    I've bashed the shit out of my AOS5 and it's held up better than the Moongoat and Shocker Tank I had before it. The moongoat camera cage was the weak link and on the tank the rear arms and top plate cracked. On the AOS I've only dented the carbon despite having harder hits for sure. The chin under the camera plate is more sturdy, we'll see what happens when I hit the camera directly. Something about the way it distributes loads is just better. Function over form so who cares what it looks like.

    I think the boxy look is what makes it look so "blah" aesthetically. Would be nice to see it spiced up a little, but it does seem to accomplish what it was set out to do, which is to fly smoothly.

    I've had it since release, actually had 2 of the 5.5 frames so far. Only problem I've had besides breaking an arm was the camera plates.. they break pretty easy in a head on crash and your dji cam gets destroyed

    • @JonE5FPV
      @JonE5FPV  2 роки тому +3

      Good notes, the shape is offering some protection, but perhaps the plates themselves are too thin. Catalyst banggod/shocker, is similar, but the cage plates are larger, and they extend further with the brace offering added protection as well.

    The arm style reminds me of the Tinyhawk Freestyle. When everyone is trying to shave a little here, improve a little there, this frame is going to reduce the vibrations being fed to the gyro, so it's shaving a little off there. If you fly like Steele which is incredibly skilled, but I like to call it a flying seizure, I don't know if a few vibrations are going to matter a whole hell of a lot. Maybe they do? I can't fly like that so what do I know? I can fly smooth and vibrations are a problem with that type of flight. Especially if you're not using stabilization.

    Looks good but I cannot help but think this frame reminds me of something, hmm... 🤔 Anyways I'm in love with my Catalyst Machineworks banggods I have 2 of them and those frames protect your camera/vtx incredibly well. Lets face it Vista/DJI camera setups are the most expensive part of a build now and if your a freestyle bando flyer or just crash as much as I do LOL you will love this frame too 👍

  • @PKNEXUS

    Frame is insanely good, I have 3 of them now. Make sure you use plenty of grease :) Also i rebuilt my iflight 7" into an AOS 7". Would be cool to see you switch over to it for two weeks and give us your thoughts on it.

    • @userunknown2771

      how does it crash?
      I am building one at the moment... Do you recommend any TPU parts to increase the durability of for example the exposed Camera Cage ?

    • @PKNEXUS
      @PKNEXUS 2 роки тому +3

      @@userunknown2771 I have yet to have a head on impact, on the camera cage, but I can see the plates potentially being an issue. So far it can handle being knocked around as well as anything else I have. I use to fly 2 x Armattan Badger frames, my AOS 5 and 5.5 builds have replaced using those frames. I've tried to limit the use of TPU parts as much as possible, anything that could build up vibration and keep the build as streamline and tight as possible. I could see a TPU front bumper on the cage being a useful addon. In regards to building and replacing arms, it's not all that bad. Id happily trade a few mins on the ground of extra work for improved performance in the air.

    Fpvcycle glide for the win. Practical, and strong. Get back to me when you make the aos easier to work on, and take that stupid little arm key on the apex, and throw it in the trash. I cannot get the arms to stay tight on that frame to save me. Each to their own. Both Rosser, and Steele are dope. You should try them all, and decide for yourself. There is plenty of room in FPV for everyone.

    • @JonE5FPV

    It is kind of funny how things happen sometimes. I just watched your video on the TX12 and I was thinking about how I could only see it as a low end radio but then when you compare it to the Zorro, a radio that I consider to be mid/high end I realized that feature for feature the Zorro and the TX12 are pretty close. Same gimbals, same OS, that is basically the radio there plus the actual transmitter parts and I might suspect that they are both similar there as well... My point is that before the Zorro I knew about the TX12 but did not think it would be something I would want yet I was kind of drooling over the Zorro when it first came out and if they ae essentially the same then why do I like one but not the other?
    So bias is an interesting thing and I do appreciate people saying things like "their not going to hate on something before they try it..." but Steele still downplayed the frame a bit as well. My point is that we should have a goal - I want to have the best freestyle experience or I want to get the best cinematic video and then find the parts that help you realize that goal. Sometimes we will end up ignoring what is best for us and turn it down. Why would we do such a thing? So back to this frame - it was designed to have the lowest resonance and vibrations and it would seem that it does.
    But someone commented that we have Hypersmooth and other softwares that does the same thing so who cares? That is a good question. Is this design solving something that software has solved or is there still a good reason to want the absolute smoothest flying frame possible? I have to imagine that for some situations it could matter.
    Anyway that is what I was thinking and it was funny that bias was something that both videos made me think about. Cheers

    i ordered the 7inch mantis, because there is almost no single frame out here whithout noise out of the box. i miss the 20x20 holes in the x-subplate, which would really be no problem to cut out. ;-) i dont know why Chris did this not. stability? does this make such a difference? if yes, lets go to 3mm. the other thing is, i dont knoe why the 5inch version has the stack out of COT? i also would have ordered the 5.5. because i want the FC in the middle, Air unit in front. Rear is for GPS, RX. i wonder how Armattan will react to this with the new coming frames. there is just not much left to do any better. Mr Steel dont like it? yeah, understand, for sure. i would hate it so much also .....

    • @JonE5FPV
      @JonE5FPV  2 роки тому +1

      i think the extra space makes it more stable, so it can still flick pretty well because of all the power, but its a longer rotation, so if you want to turn fast as possible, may be better off with the 5" proper. difference would still be fairly small, i personally like being able to mount in the center more than that feature.

    The best frame is unibody, period. But too expensive. Replaceable arms are much cheaper, ease of repair and more profitable (manufacturing wise in niche market). Especially claimed designed by some aero engineer. One thing i agree with Steele is more fasteners make it worse - duh.
    FYI all FPV drone frames are designed to break! - fact. That is how the industry grow. Because cheap frames were designed to protect the more expensive parts i.e. fpv system and electronics, at the same time healthier for hobbyists.
    Ofkos frame design is based on the designer's goal - claimed to achieve.
    Even cfd can't compute any assembly, but one piece.
    Smooth is a preference, a non-structural related and any mechanical instruments with moving parts have resonances, oscillations and vibrations. Tune it.
